You look amazing, your rest has done you a world of good! So glad to see you back again Kevin. Love your videos, and I must give those beans a try, yum!
I love the simplicity of your recipe, I've seen so many online using tons of sugar and even adding canned franks and beans, lol. I do like sweet and smokey baked beans but I'm going to try your recipe and tweak as it calls. Always so interesting and fun to see how others cook and create meals.
Oh lord Mel Brooks!!! Someone who brought more than his fair share of laughter/medicine to the table in his life. The campfire scene is legendary born of a legend.
Thanks for another cooking class. Name your bacon. We have it somewhere here in the colonies. Trust me. We also have Boston tea parties. Good travels. 🤠
Thank you for sharing the making of the beans Kevin. Hope you have a safe and great motorbike travel. I am looking forward to your motorbike video when you get back. Cheers from Puerto Rico.
We can get streaky bacon.....it's what we call .....bacon. Pea bacon we refer to as 'Canadian bacon'. My understanding is that Julia Child created her cookbook in a space about the same size as your space.
As a Brit expat, bacon in the USA is streaky bacon as we Brits know it. Bacon, as we Brits know it, is available here from some specialty places. My late American wife told me in no uncertain terms that British bacon was "nothing but ham". Damned cheek, I said! 😂
That's fabulous to hear, thank you. I came up with this as I recently had to start cutting my sugar intake right down. It was never that high anyway but it's staggering how much sugar and artificial sweeteners are in things when you look into it. I'm pleased the recipe will be used for what it was intended. P.S. They are delicious, though the bacon is purely optional.
Nice baked beans recipe. Yes, we can get pork belly from the butcher shop. I just acquired a baked bean ceramic pot, and I'm going to give it a go👍 Have a blessed day Kevin
That's just what I need. Baked Beans, without sugar. Well done Kevin. You explained it step by step. Mary will have to get busy. Good, well presented video. Many thanks.
Another awesome CHG recipe! The content you share is always of superb quality & contributes loads of value to your viewers! No fluff or hollow themes, simply interesting stories/topics that inspire & provide numerous benefits to help one live better. Like many, I’m totally looking forward to watching your Scotland road trip!! Take care & thanks again for hosting a spectacular channel…cheers!!
Oh my, I am absolutely speechless Joe. For the first time in a long while, I'm lost for words. That's so incredibly generous of you. Thank you seems insufficient but rest assured I will put your contribution to very good use on the upcoming Scotland road trip. Cheers again and best wishes, Kevin
@CountryHouseGent Kevin. I'm very busy running my construction company at the moment. I'm 65 this year. I love motorcycles, camping, nature, water and of course Scotland. The scenery there is incredible. I hope to slow down soon so I can enjoy life more and work less. So.....I very much agree with your decision to engage in a lifestyle change. I think it's wonderful you are enjoying life and of course working. I know the videos take a lot of work and concentration. Your shows are a blessing and inspiration. Thank you for allowing us to contribute. Be Safe my friend.
After having taken a break myself, hello again from Tucson Arizona. Glad to see you are still there and still interesting. Stay safe and looking forward to catching up on the episodes I missed
Like the beans recipe! You need to include your culinary skills in your next series as indeed you used too! No surprise you have a squeaky floor after eating beans though! 😉 Good to see you back and keep smiling!
Hello Kevin, Your baked beans look so tasty and healthy too. And you’re looking very healthy also. Thank you for the explanation of the right hand rule, I too wondered about that. I drink decaf coffee, but must check how the beans are treated now you have mentioned it!
Mom’s Boston Baked Beans- 1# dry navy or pea beans, soaked overnight & simmer 1/2 hr, reserve liquid. Heat oven @375F-in a casserole with lid, add beans, 1tsp salt, 3 tbsp molasses, 2 tsp mustard powder with small amt water, 1 tsp cider vinegar, in middle add whole peeled peeled onion & 1/2# salt pork slab (whole), Bake covered 4-5 hrs, add bean liquid as needed to keep covered. (Adding catsup or mustard to serve optional). Served with steamed brown bread. Great on a cold day!
Have you considered dragging a magnet (magnet fishing) behind Aslan? There most be all kinds of artifacts in those canals, and it would provide more content for nothing. 😊
Loved your recipe. Also enjoyed the info on Swiss water decaf as I did not know it had less caffeine. As a bonus it tastes better as well. Wishing you good health in your travels.
Well done, Kevin. The beans look particularly tasty. I’m glad they turned out like you wanted them to be. I know that you will soon give us more to watch and find interesting when you get ready to do the introduction of the motorcycle and the gear for your on the road trip. I’m excited for you!
Enjoyed your bean production. Also looking forward to your road trip to the islands. Hope you share both your video and still photography. Have fun out there.
The Orient Express serves "impossibly delicious 4-course meals in the smallest kitchen in the world." So, you're in good company. We (Californians) have bacon that looks like your streaky bacon, but we just call it "bacon". Not sure what haricot beans are, but cannellini are my favorite & it looks like your baked beans were stunningly delicious! 😋
Well, …in the U.S., streaky bacon is what we mean by the term “bacon.” Until maybe ten years ago we couldn’t buy English (style) back bacon, but sliced smoked pork belly has been a breakfast staple here since the early colonial times. We still, however can’t find genuine bangers at less than the Brice of gold boullion. Also, over here “baked beans” are almost always oven-baked and thus have to actually be baked, at medium temperatures for a long time in a bean pot in an oven. Originally copied from the North American indigenous peoples’ dish made with common white beans, game meat of some type and maple sugar. We sure enjoy all of your videos and are sure we will like the motorcycle themed ones.
Really enjoyed your take on baked beans. They looked fab and bet they were very tasty! My step dad's Mom made the best baked beans in the known universe and I could kick myself for never asking for her recipe. She made them in an old fashioned stoneware crock (not the electric type) and actually baked them in the oven. I think she put molasses in them, as they were a rich mahogany color when done. They were sweet, with some BBQ tang. Sigh. Anyway, looking forward to meeting your new motorcycle and seeing what kit you'll use. I remember very well the last camping video of yours, years ago. I laughed so hard I nearly hurt myself. Mostly, it's the gorgeous Scottish scenery I'm looking forward to. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us poor buggers stuck at home! Take care.
had a hunch there would be a post this weekend, and here we are!!! always enjoy the cooking shows -- eager to see the motorcyle/equipment rollout, looking forward to the Scottish tour...
Thanks for sharing your baked bean recipe as I am sure it was delicious probably better than the famous Bush Baked Beans from USA. Enjoy your holiday coming up on your motorcycle across the UK. I can't wait to see some exciting of scenery as you camp in the mountains.
My goodness you are looking amazingly well. Loved the baked bean recipe. Looking forward to the motorcycle videos. Ride safe and enjoy your holiday. 😊❤
I always enjoy your cooking in the small kitchen. What I wanted to comment about was your cruse down the oxford to the thames . I noticed the lack of moorings, but the ones you could use had lots of restrictions. Almost as if they couldn't keep you off the canal, but they darn sure wouldn't let you stop in peace.
@@CountryHouseGentreminds me of the times I've tried to take shortcuts through Bel Air in LA, lol. Purposely devoid of street signs on most corners, to keep out those who don't belong. If they see you slowly crushing by, trying to work out where the heck you are, they come out and give you the stinkeye, lol.
The not so hairy narrowboat biker! Good luck with your road trip to the Scottish Islands & I will definitely have to give your baked bean recipe a try!
I have to be honest kev . You have never disappointed with your videos. They are always interesting and informative for people to watch.. I'm glad that you are safe and well mate.. I'm looking forward to watching your roadtrip .I did the same thing many years ago and loved every minute of it.. Sadly I am now unable to ride a motorcycle .. let alone a car... strokes have a tendency to affect you physically. Anyway kev keep safe and well mate as someone said you are looking more like yourself these days.. Which is nice to see..👍👍👍
So sorry to hear about your stroke Wayne, I remember you talking about your bike riding several years ago. Hopefully I'll be able to bring a good flavour of riding across the Scottish islands, to your living room. Very best wishes to you, 🤗
Niiiiiiice! Darn it anyhow Kevin, you're looking younger again! Your bean recipe looks very healthy. Enjoy your ride in the countryside and we'll be looking over your shoulder. 😉
You made some wonderful zingy beans! Kev, you just need a proper bean pot. I remember my mum used to make Boston-style Yankee Baked Beans, with navy beans(soaked overnight), with onions, thick pork belly(fat), and molasses. The pot would be in the oven all day, and the house would smell fantastic. She had a secret ingredient that was never shared. Still can’t make that bean recipe. Thanks for bringing back sweet memories.
Appreciate your channel. The questions you get point out the reason why I would likely never post content: I’d be in danger of having my eyes permanently rolled back. Like the sound of that recipe. Love cannellini beans…very nice texture and flavor. Thank you!

Kevin, the beans look delish! I'd like to make up a pot here, but must not. No matter what she takes to avoid it, the wife gets a bit windy with legumes so they are not served at table. Hah! Looking forward to your next video on the road!

Hi Kevin, my ears pricked up when I heard you’re going moto camping this year. I went on my first wild camping bike trip to Scandinavia last summer. It was utterly awesome. Going again this year. Look forward to your next few vids on the subject. 🙂✌🏻
Those baked beans look so yummie.Thank you for sharing your recipe.Iam looking forward to biking adventures.Have an Awesome Week and will be watching for the next video.
Hi Kevin. Enjoy your Scotland Trip. We love visiting there as the scenery here in the States (South Carolina) isn't as interesting. Cheers and BE SAFE.
Try Neatsfoot Oil, fill up your boots as best you can, and leave to soak into the leather, makes them waterproof, and softens them. Tip excess oil out after a couple of weeks. Lovely and sqidgy when you first start to wear them,

Another great moment in bean history, coming in after the who sell out, and blazing saddles campfire scene. Fun.

Agreed. & For me it was The Who at The Gorge in Washington!

In NC you find “streak-o-lean” also, which is exactly as its name all fat with just a little color in Hawaii we have three kinds of pork belly.
Thanks for this video. As a diabetic, this is the perfect meal and I could get 2 servings or more out of that. Great job. 👍

What a treat! I wasn't expecting an upload from the Gent today. Thank you Kevin!

Looking forward to the motorbike adventures! Can't wait! Thanks for the cooking video. Love those!!!
I love watching your cooking videos. After all those beans you’ll have had more than a squeaky floor. 😊
The smell of frying onions ooh la la
Just the sight of steaming hot fresh food being served is the best thing.

Great Saturday night watch

Sincerely. Glad you are still floating the Boat. Respect.
Nice baked beans recipe. Yes, we can get pork belly from the butcher shop. I just acquired a baked bean ceramic pot, and I'm going to give it a go👍 Have a blessed day Kevin
Thanks for the "recipe" and for the explanation of why the boats pass on the right, I never knew that. Looking forward to the next. Phil.
You're looking good and well rested,Kevin.
That's just what I need. Baked Beans, without sugar. Well done Kevin. You explained it step by step. Mary will have to get busy. Good, well presented video. Many thanks.

Thank you so much love to hear from you.
I watched your first upload when you released it what seems like so long ago now. How time flies
Thank you so much. Yes, the first narrowboat video was almost 7 years ago. My very first video on the channel, in 2009. 🙂

It’s a relaxing time just hanging out with you while you cook 👨🍳. Thanks for the video!
Looking forward to watching your road-trip!
its amazing how you cook in such a small space
Thanks. You have to have superb tidying skills, or the ingredients would be buried under pots and plates.
I buy pork belly in Florida, not scarce as some think! As a diabetic I cannot wait to make these~ Thank you!

Will try the recipe. Like the hair longer. Looking forward to the Highlands!
You forgot to bake those beans! I've made a similar recipe and finished it in the smoker.
Really enjoy your videos, please keep going!

Thank you John and a definite yes to both questions.
Well, what could be better than a bowl of baked beans? A Greggs Steak Bake probably, but your beans looked great anyway! 😀 Better still…both!
Ooh haven't had a Steak Bake in a good while. I'm drooling.

Excellent. Hi Kevin. Why don't you write a Cooking by Narrowboat cook book?
cannellini beans are white kidney beans I believe, and are delicious
Yes, they're much sweeter than haricot beans so bring a delicious natural sweetness to the sauce.
I’m also impressed that you can create these fine dishes in such a tiny kitchen. That knife is as wide as your countertop- lol. Safe chopping! 😅
😆 Yes they're ain't a lot of room to go round.
