@@mandymoore5774 They do look at tracking and look at weight if you claiming buyer sent something else back. I won cases that way a couple of times where a scammer buyer sent back a broken screen instead of the phone they purchased trying to keep phone and sent random broken parts back. I had his accounts shut down as well as safe and trust internal time actually call me which is rare and told me what they found out which they normally don’t for privacy reasons.
Yes eBay claims not to use pictures, or weight, or other factors as proof would do no good. Learned over the years keep calling request supervisors and follow up and eventually you get someone that will actually look into details instead of can responses. I even won a case against a scammer and used his feedback as proof he was doing return fraud as he did similar to a couple others. That guy was slick as he spread out scams every few months.

Maybe if there is no tracking however once i didnt receive a parcel so i assume it was lost in the post.
I tried to get my money back but the seller won the case because they had a postage receipt.
I was a noob at the time and could have had the decision reversed based on the fact that it was the postal service that was responsible for the lost item so ebay had no right really to come to their conclusion.
I mean you can have all the receipts in the world but if the package isnt delivered i shouldnt have to bare that burdon.

This happened to me and is the reason I've decided to leave eBay. It's plagued with scammers, liars and thieves. I've been a seller since 1999. I've never seen it this bad. I sold a purse in pristine condition. Purse that was returned was absolute junk. Buyer shipped purse using her own label and never retrieved the one eBay sent her. On my end I'm assuming the purse had not been shipped. On eBay's end they think the buyer changed their mind since label was never printed. She never entered a tracking number. Purse was delivered to my PO Box without my knowledge. A note was left in my box which is how I found out it was delivered. Once I claimed the parcel and was scanned by the clerk buyer was notified it had been picked up. She immediately opened a claim that I never refunded her $$ The 2 day return window had expired and she was refunded by eBay. I appealed to no avail. Listing photos were proof enough of the original condition of the purse. Didn't matter they stuck to their decision. No seller protection anymore! Seller's beware! Better yet get the hell off of there.

I sell antiques on ebay and I’m going to a different auction platform. Buyers buy something expensive wait until they receive the item then you get the funds, well part of it(minus the 12.9% that they take from the shipping too which is ridiculous!) then they wait til the last minute and file a return betting on the gamble that you don’t have the full amount paid that you never even got in the first place in your available balance (bc of the ebay fees) to facilitate the refund for a return then they refund the buyer and they get to keep the item. It’s ridiculous.

I sold a rare but new never-used motorcycle engine part on eBay mark as I don't accept returns. 3 months after it was delivered buyer open a case saying it was the wrong part it had taken him 3 months to get around to opening the package. He returned the item I recorded me opening it and you could see the buyer had sent back his old part and kept the new one. EBay said it was his word against mine I had always had 100% feedback on my account where the buyer didn't he received a full refund. I was out $1,500.00 on that sell after that I stopped all sales on eBay's site. I'll only do local in-person cash-only sales.

We had something similar happen to us. Buyer sent back a totally different item and when we contacted him, he told us that THATs the item we shipped him (no, not even close) and that he couldn't have possibly sent that item because he didn't even have one like that "in stock". He then asked if we had video of us opening the package to prove it. This being our first problem like that, we didn't. CLEARLY got scammed. We blocked the buyer and in the future, we will record all returns!

Good video Samson. My latest one was on a pair of shoes. The customer left a negative feedback that they were FAKE. Not being an expert on shoes i message the buyer to return the shoes for a complete refund. THEY DID NOT RETURN the shoes. Customer service at Ebay said they can not remove the feedback due to “the customer has a right to reflect their experience”. After digging into the buyer i found out that they sell the same brand of shoe! Ebay still won’t remove the negative feedback. UGHHHHH!

Just email the buyer in the future and say you have a video recorded opening of the the return (with the postman/courrier in view) and that you are obliged to inform them that you will be taking them to small claims..(mention this might effect their credit rating in the future aswell as having to foot the case fees)..even if you don't have this recording,i bet it would make more than a small percentage of buyers sweat it and maybe change their mind.

I asked them to send pictures of the item they wanted to return highlighting the specific areas with problems. Long story short I sent pictures back comparing what they sent to listing photos and explained they were showing me something else.

Fortunately, most people are honest, but now I avoid posting expensive items only because it is not worth the stress and annoyance especially because no matter how much proof you have ebay will always side with the buyer.

If it's not busy and its the USPS you can ask if you and open the item at there counter before you ship. USPS counter is under video surveillance also you can ask on a return item if you can open box at there counter, if USPS cooperates and the scammer sent you a damaged or different item all together you can file a report to the post master general. If the transaction is across state lines this is Mail Fraud which is a federal offense. I heard from some videos on RUclips they had a small Post office that would help them.

I had sold some kids clothing and described them perfectly. I sold the shirts for $2 each. I had a buyer buy the shirts then claim that the shirts were stained had a rip and in her wording some were basically "unwearable". She left negative feedback. I looked back on the ad and had noticed no stains or any rips. I messaged the buyer and told her that if she was unhappy I would gladly refund the money and once refunded could she please remove the feedback. She didnt agree and said I was blackmailing her into removing the feedback. So I contacted ebay to get the feedback removed and I didnt have such an easy time getting it removed. Eventually after contacting them multiple times they did remove it but it really put me off selling for awhile. I believe there are people out there that just love to leave negative feedback just to hurt you.

i don't sell alot but have 100% postitive feedback. I saw a few videos like yours...its frightening! When I sell now, I take a video of the label and me packing the box until it is taped shut. I wonder if you can add something to the return policy? Liek the buyer needs to video the unboxing process and supply pictures before sending back. Or if the outcome is against the seller, that you will pursue theft charges with a police report like a seller has done in the past?

Hi, great video, sorry it happened to you. It also happened to a person I know, she was sent back a different item, the same brand but the model and especially the condition was wrong. She did film herself opening the parcel but it didn't change anything to Ebay and the scammer won the case. On my opinion the thing you can try in this kind of situation is when somebody contacts you and complains about the item is to ask the pictures of the issue as a proof. In your case it could be the jeans you sold with a measuring tape aside. So you can see the difference on the picture yourself and contact ebay stuff or it prevents the scammer from trying to scam you. At least I hope it could work. The only thing you can do in this kind of situation on my opinion is to prevent the scam. But when it's already happened unfortunately there's not much you can do because Ebay always takes the buyer side. Sorry for my English and good luck to you.

Have buyers returning items claiming “damaged”, then they use return label and what usps told me is called a “slap label.” Basically the return label barcode gets it to your zip code then the buyer chooses a business in your zip code or a publicly searchable address, put that on a label on top. It gets delivered there, shows delivered on your account and eBay auto refunds the scammer. Only reason I won the case was because usps was actually investigating the address/buyer for mail fraud and eBay was informed of this investigation. There definitely needs to be something in place for sellers, you can say cost of business all day, but not all sellers are the same. These scammers target high end electronics and collectibles and then return nothing in a padded envelope. It’s sickening.

Anyone have suggestions for what a seller can do to protect themselves from fake INAD claims other than just factoring in the average cost of these losses in pricing?
Even adding Australia Post insurance appears to be ineffective for scams as it requires the recipient to take the damaged item to the Post Office for assessment and compensation.
Have you worked out a method to protect yourself from this Samson, have you had any more of these or won any appeals?
I've been looking for an answer to this tonight as I have a suspicious buyer who I'm sending a $500 item tomorrow. Now on alert I've double checked I'm covered against the common deceptions, but still haven't found a way to protect against a fake INAD and receiving some junk from the back of their shed in place of my actual item...as far as I can tell there's nothing stopping them from keeping the real item, sending back a used kitty litter tray and calling it a return.
I was going to just insure it but found out that won't work.
    Any ideas comrades?

I sold an Xbox and 6 games. 2 of the games were worth about $60 each. Guy lodged a return saying the unit was damaged. I accepted the return and when the return arrived, the 2 expensive games were missing. I contacted him and he said that those 2 games were not in the original postage he received. I did record myself opening the return.
I fought with eBay for days. They do not acknowledge videos and in the end they made me refund him. I now mark all items I sell with an invisible marker. Haven’t had to use that yet so we will see. Hope I never have to.
It is devastating . eBay have to get their shit together.
