    What I do is, I let the seller give me the address and if it’s something wildly out of my range “I say ok, I’m here” and then they either don’t reply or switch locations again.

    Another scam is offering an item "Free" and you just pay shipping using cash app and not going through OfferUp platform. A few sellers giving away stuff trying to get a quick cash and leave you flat.

    Almost feel for a PayPal scam selling on offerup... guy sent a fake PayPal email saying funds would be released after proof of shipping. Should have known better when he requested to use PayPal instead of using offerup app. Blocked the account, I never sent him the item. Many shipping scammers use an address in Miami, FL red flag 🚩

      Literally everything that you said literally happened to my mother and me yesterday. My mother is in her forties and I have a computer background so normally I know how these scams work. I thought it was so weird because my mom was selling a watch for $450 and he sent $500? but in the fake PayPal mail it's said this *$500.00USD no space at all I kid you not* 🤔 but I thought oh okay so it's covering the shipping Maybe but she had the shipping for $7.25 🤔I had a gut feeling that something wasn't right. when I was emailing him because he told me to go look in the spam mail box and I don't know why I ignore the big sign that Gmail told me that it could be unsafe. And when I would called a few times him he would always tell me "im at work" which I believed then hang up. so we actually went to the post office and was getting ready to get shipped but I gave him the confirmation code in the email but that gut feeling still came back so we started contacting actual PayPal and they told my mother their wasn't any pending transactions on her PayPal account which I tried to look for before but i didn't see and then I knew it was a scam😠THEN I got that weird email about the amount being too much money in the personal account. and *that's exactly why he did that exact amount* and how he wanted me to switch the account from personal to business and he wanted a small fee which doesn't cost. But he wanted some more money cause he was "helping" ( we didn't give him any password information) Thank goodness we were only on the other side of town when we had literally just dropped off the package 10 minutes ago my mother got her package AND the money for the shipping and I called the scammer to curse him out. I blocked and reported him too.

    Someone kept aggressively forcing me to do a meet ups after I told him like 3 different times I don't do meet ups. I even offer to pay the shipping by dropping the price for him. I finally convince him I will ship the item to him and he message me saying "Payment complete" I was like "you do know offerup sends a shipping label and a confirmation of the payment right?" so what he does next is... he sends me 2 different addresses and says "just ship them there" I told him again I'm still waiting for the payment and he stop replying after that lol. His profile had 5stars and also showed he had made 75 purchases in the past.

    We got a shipping scam once via Kijiji (before it was officially linked to paypal and therefore adding a layer of protection). My boyfriend had found the Dragon Quest game I was looking for on DS (IIRC) as a surprise gift for me and since the seller was in another province, asked him to ship it to us. However, we never got the game. Yet, somehow, we managed to get Paypal to reimburse us (don't remember how), but we got lucky in our bad luck.
    I mostly see scams as a seller: when putting up a $100+ item for sale, I'd get a SMS from the US (red flag #1) asking to contact them by email (red flag #2, as you can send an email directly from Kijiji). And it's happened when the message was so vague there was no way it'd be serious. Of course, I'm aware of their game, but it still sucks.
    As for local transactions, the Montreal police department recently put up a safe trading zone, located right outside one of their police stations.
    Also, I was once approached by a buyer in British Columbia (basically across the country) for a rare translation book I was selling. Since Vancouver BC isn't a Kijiji-centric area (they still mostly use Craigslist) and I was weary of potential scammers, I accepted to ship the book to one condition: the buyer would have to go through my Ebay account (so I would be protected in case of scam). Worked out well in the end, as the buyer was serious. Would rather lose a bit via Ebay's fees than be completely scammed out of a sale.

    In regards to shipping, I have purchased a couple of items via shipping and it was perfect for me. But I refuse to sell with shipping bc OfferUp takes a cut of your earnings. And to make up for that loss, you would have to price the item above a normal market price.

    You have buyer protection on offerup similar to ebay. If you have any issues with the item you just contact support. I have had a couple problems with people on offerup but its actually been pretty awesome for getting deals. The past year though I feel like I havent found as many crazy deals for shipping but there are still gems now and again. I buy a lot through offerup shipping or go off the app through paypal, never had any problems. I actually prefer it most of the time, I think it’s safer. I live like an hour away from LA and after around 2 pm traffic just gets too hectic. Unless the item is real cheap like $30 or less I’ll suggest offerup shipping or just buy it on their but if it’s more than $100 I’ll suggest paypal cause the fees ain’t that bad over their. Both have protection, if they try to tell me to pay with Venmo or anything else I just tell them I only have paypal and if they insist I just say “welp, good luck selling it”

    Lately I've gotten a lot of offers for items I have on sale, but these people would just never reply. Some people with ratings would also do the same, talk to you for a bit, make an offer then it would never go anywhere. If it's just one or two, it's not a big deal, but I've gotten at least 20 these past couple of weeks. I feel like OfferUp has been creating these fake users in their system to make it seem like there are a lot of buyers, then they would upsell you on paying to promote what you're selling. I've sold many things in the past, but lately it's been real shady.

    It’s sad how much OfferUP has gone downhill. I haven’t found any deal on it in well over two years. It used to be my favorite app to sell on but even that is awful now. Extreme low-ballin like people asking to buy a SNES with all cables and 6 games (2 of which are Mario world & all-stars) for $10 but what really drove me to just stop using the app was the “constant “where are you located?” Question. In all of my posts I had the name of my town even the exit # of the highway for my town and just annoyed me that people were just too lazy to even read the info ...

    I had bought on Offerup using shipping a few times. Once you make a payment, the seller and buyer get notifications through the messaging system on offer up that the buyer made the payment. Once the seller ships the product, the buyer will get a notification and even be able to track it. And finally, they will also message you once its delivered to your door. Also, what was also cool is if the person does not ship it right away, I believe within 5 days, both people will be notified that the product needs to be shipped or the transaction will not finalize. If you have any other questions let me know bud.

Somehow he gave me a fake tracking number and duped me into sending the payment. Now im down $200 waiting impatiently for venmo, letgo, and law enforcement to contact me.
    Im not looking for any pity but my lesson I learned from this is to always meet in person and make sure the item is as described. Dont ever use any other payment methods not approved by the app.

People in the comment section talking about scams without seeing who the real scammers are. I'm never going to that website again.

Picked up some ps3 games off there (ps3 is what im collecting) and i have 0 issues with it so ebay and mercari and trades thru instagram are my ways of shopping altho i was scammed once on Instagram. Well so far I have had pretty much all of my OfferUp deals shipped to me and so far I haven’t had any problems however I believe that it does take a few days after the item has been delivered for the seller to get paid because one time I had something shipped to me and a few days after the item was delivered the seller messaged me saying they hadn’t gotten the money in their account even though the amount was taken out of my account meaning that it was paid for and that OfferUp had the money to transfer into the sellers account to pay them and I told them that they should receive the money soon and I guess they did get paid because they never messaged me again after I told them they should receive payment soon because I guess they were new to the shipping program and didn’t know how long after delivery it takes to receive payment from OfferUp when they sell something through the shipping option!

    • @DayOneWhite
      @DayOneWhite  4 года назад

      jmdilley02 a lot of times new eBay sellers have to wait to get the money and the money basically sits in limbo. I guess OfferUp does the same

    • @jmdilley02
      @jmdilley02 4 года назад

      Day One White Day One White well I think because of the fact that eBay sellers have to wait to receive their payment is why I didn’t get a GameCube lot I had bid on and the seller was new to selling on eBay and never shipped it because they responded to a message I sent them about why they haven’t shipped my order and they said that they didn’t receive payment even though I did pay for the lot and eBay had taken the money out of my bank account so I eventually had to cancel the order due to not receiving my item and eBay had to step in and refund me since the seller didn’t respond to any messages after I told them that they would receive payment a few days after the item they sold was delivered and I guess they didn’t like the ideal of that so I guess they took down any items that hadn’t sold and never shipped anything that did sell because I saw that 1 other person bought a hunting bow from the seller and they never shipped so the buyer left a negative feedback saying that they paid and the seller didn’t ship so I also left similar feedback!

I think he bailed on the transaction and didn’t actually get scammed. @9:13 - ‘this is kind of a click-bait title ....’ Just because youtube/ad revenue are attached to videos greater than 10 minute, doesn’t mean you should ramble on and on. At least quickly addressed how you got scammed, for what, and how much within the first two minutes.
