To be honest more RUclipsrs have ruined the opportunities for “founding resellers”. Created more amateur and in and out resellers. And created more awareness to IRS, post office, and also to the goodwill and sources. Making this an even tougher field than it used to be. The RUclips resellers are now depending more on the channels, speaking events, and also their own merchandise sales. I really don’t believe there is anything wrong with what the RUclips resellers are doing, they found a niche to make a career and i still say go for it. However there are reactions to every action.

I totally disagree. In my case, the RUclipsrs have made me a much better reseller. I am able to find more quality items and be a better reseller altogether. There will be people all the time who dip their toes in and out of reselling. The key is will those amateurs take the knowledge and make themselves better for it. You have to have the drive to keep going. No youtuber is going to give you that. But having knowledge makes everyone better. I am thankful for the youtubers!

Organized & Sku my inventory & I pull sales daily @ 3 pm & ship it's all about a routine & organized that makes it much easier. I try to bank 200 items in case I need a day off. Resellers ruined it for themselves at goodwill. I work there. When we priced really cheap we had resellers running down people putting new product out and arguing. Regular people didn’t get anything good. Now we do about a third of eBay. The scummy resellers stopped coming. The knowledgeable ones still make money. Normal people get stuff. I resell sometimes but I personally am glad the prices went up. People got too entitled thinking they were owed a 10x on their money. If you can’t make a living doubling and tripling your money. You’re not doing it right

Adapt and overcome. It's a necessity in almost every facet of life. The key statement you said in the beginning Kevin is you love what you do, you love garage sale picking and your willing to do what it takes to protect what you love to do. You can't have unrealistic expectations and be unwilling to learn and grow, if nothing changes then nothing changes. We all get into a funk from time to time. I have to remind myself constantly that I may have the lenses in my glasses backwards, perhaps I'm magnifying the problem and focusing less inwards for the solution. eBay will always be eBay, Goodwill will always be goodwill, there will always be obstacles prior to progress, but if it means enough to you and your willing to adapt and overcome there will always inevitably be progress.. Ehhh but what do I know I'm just an old man. lolll

I haven't had a huge dip in sales, but I am re-evaluating my store. I find myself starting to niche down in certain areas. I am starting to bundle more and more. I enjoy that aspect of selling. I think this is all part of growing as a person and a business, seeing what works and what doesn't and making changes to continue in a positive manner. As far as the post office, they face the same challenges as most households - how to balance inflation, pensions, labor costs, fuel prices, maintenance on vehicles and buildings, etc. I think they made a huge positive step with adding Ground Advantage. This has saved me a bunch in shipping costs and definitely took many of my sales away from UPS. People will always find something to complain about. My dad used to tell me the story of my grandfather. He came through Ellis Island as a young boy, the ship's manifest read 'peasant' - well, he almost died from sickness as a young boy, but grew up to own a grocery market and gas station and survive through the rationing during WW2, become the town's bank president, and serve on the zoning board. I was taught to persevere and plow through and stop blaming others for my failures. I am in charge of my own destiny.

The problem I see with buying another sellers bulk lots is they will, more times than not, already have been looked through and cherry picked to the point where the buyer receives a bulk lot of unsellable junk. In a perfect world your idea would work especially if the seller has to video the lot before selling but that doesn't take into consideration the items condition (I guess it all comes down to if the sellers providing these bulk lots are honest). 30:40 minutes in: 1.) we are finding (while sourcing) exactly what we EXPECT. Not at every sale of course - but, after a day of sourcing we find the profit. 2.) we have expanded our range (as we have grown and learned on smaller investments) to include items that are higher priced IF THE RETURN potential is there - we typically like an 8x return but with higher priced items we are looking for a quicker sell through rate along with a 5x PLUS return. Example: a recent purchase of $8 (an increase in our initial investment!) item sold in under 3 weeks for $165. 3.) We have inventory from our earlier "learning" phase not yet listed, and in the winter we go through it and either list or donate - I have 4 bins left of this - we list as soon as possible after our purchases on current finds. 4.) if we find ourselves without inventory to list during the winter in Northern Michigan, then there are online auction opportunities. A couple of small thrift stores. We are NOT worried - we have an abundance mentality not a scarcity mentality. Our blessing cup overflows.

We reap what we sow. Is goodwill way over priced now, yes. Are ebay fees high, also yes. Is the price for shipping high, again yes. But we get what we put in to our business. We have to look for solutions to our consumers problems, whether that's spare parts or lego manuals or vintage toys for the collectors. We have to think about what the buyer might need or want, and look for those items. In this economy everyone is looking for the most bang for their buck. P.s. I enjoy watching your videos.

I HATE to sell clothes, it's just not my lane. I then wish I had someone locally I knew that would want to swap items or purchase them for a little above what I did. A location, a meeting place for those who are looking for good bulk inventory, albeit in one category, and those who are trying to offload their excess inventory where they're overstocked and have too much. Seems like a natural fit. If you could come up with something like that, it would fill a need that's not being filled right now. In the reselling community. If that's the direction you're going in. I think it would be hugely popular for both those needing to offload a couple of bins of overstock and those looking for those same couple of bins to fill their void for sourcing (which is not very easy anymore).

if you can source the bulk inventory and then bulk flip for a quick 25-50% and still leave money for the next person - that could be huge business - with little to no risk
    I would totally do that
even if you only pick out 10-20% for dibdit, whatnot or ebay that are in YOUR niche - this would make a lot of sense.
As long as you can reliably find this inventory - other people will start to rely on you when you make these deals and you would have to be clear that each lot may be the last. you could do quick sorts into lots and totally auction off - you also get your money off the table quickly and you keep the stuff you like.

I sourced most of my stuff at local thrift stores. The pandemic really impacted our local thrift scene (three of my best-sourcing stores closed), and the inflation at Goodwill (plus the fact that they were aggressively culling the "good stuff") made me decide to hang it up. But I agree, if I really wanted to continue doing it, I would have adjusted my sourcing strategy and continued. It's great to see that someone is still doing well with it in my home state.

On good days… I draft as many items I can and I make 10 listings go live a day. That’s been super helpful but I never have enough inventory to cover more than 3 days. It gets hard. Right now I have 2 days of drafts left and will only be able to source tomorrow. But I am cheap. I buy super low….. idk. It depends on how you do it.

I like your idea of a small user group having one another as possible sources. I would wonder how to control that so potential sellers are not just using it as a dumping ground for the item they cannot sell. Bye the way, nice job of producing videos that are both informative and entertaining!

On the new Dibdit marketplace wholesale idea, I would definitely be interested in participating on the seller side. I am a retired estate liquidator and have calls all week, every week from folks who have collections, homes to clean out etc. I live just outside Memphis and have access to all kinds of great picks in this area and on up into Tennessee containing vintage, collectibles, etc. I retired from hosting sales, but the networking is still in place for me to purchase small lots for myself to list on Ebay, but could be broadened out again to buy out storage lockers and estates (as I did personally for years here). My grown daughter and son in law, and my three teen grandchildren are all working together on a small scale but this could be ramped up for us again. We'd love that as a family. Yeah, count me in! I would imagine you'd also get folks who used to sell through haulsale before it closed.

Sourcing is sufficient in Central Florida. Not finding cartfuls at the Goodwill like the old days. My unsold items are solely my fault. Buying cutesy things not things with good sell through rates. I donate back some items but plan to sell at the local flea market or at garage sales in the cooler weather. My current plan is more cross posting, reducing prices, buying fewer items and combining complimenting items into lots. Kevin I watch your videos all the time. I admire your work ethics and devotion to your family. Lynn K.

I love the sourcing idea...I have only once purchased a random box from a RUclipsr, never thread up or similar as I just don't trust it...the box I received was actually decent, but I am skeptical and think maybe the first box was great if I order again maybe not...anyway the video idea of contents of the box is excellent...I am mostly a clothing reseller and note that clothing boxes tend to be XS size clothing ... keep us posted.

With the holiday last week I really dropped the ball when it came to listing and boy, oh, boy am I paying the price this week! Finally today, I'm seeing a nice increase in sales but also experiencing so very low offers which is frustrating. I've decided the next offer, I will accept and see if that will help. It's a growing experience every day but so happy I can do it!

I like your idea. I’m disabled and it’s hard for me to source but I’m managing for my small reselling. I get out on good days to a thrift store that I typically have good luck at. No longer even stop in Goodwill. I’ve never been to their bin location I have my doubts it because good source for me but I should check it out. I also buy lots off of eBay and Mercari but it’s rare I find a good lot for me.

I have noticed that the people doing the reselling for a living have changed so much, getting into other platforms and getting away from eBay. Sales have been down a little but I still sell everyday and I only do eBay. As far as sourcing, I do Yard Sales, Auctions, and still Goodwill and other Thrift Stores. We have several Amish & Mennonite thrift stores who still price things with room left. I'm not a full timer and glad I'm not with the economy like it is. Without the You Tube income it would be a struggle for some. I'm still having fun in the thrill of the hunt.
There is no problem finding inventory around here. I have too many clothes and shoes. Hopefully the coats that I have will sell this winter.

It was there before the 1 week came, and now I’m finding stuff laying around here that was and is supposed to Be in storage. Just an FYI Kevin cuz you and your family ROCK! Hey Kevin. I'm old school (67 yrs. old) and a strong believer in personal responsibility. It really galls me when people are quick to blame external sources for their situations. If something doesn't work, change it.

    • @lajohnson1967
      @lajohnson1967 5 месяцев назад +2

More times than not, if something isn’t working for you, it’s BECAUSE of an issue with something. Most people are doing their best but the game keeps getting stacked against them. You’re confusing complaining with blaming. People aren’t blaming other entities for their “failure”. They are simply stating that rising prices are limiting their ability to compete. It’s not about “personal responsibility” it’s about dealing with a rapidly changing marketplace. It’s challenging.

I have access to PLENTY of stuff from a local Thrift Store that is overwhelmend with inventory. I'm wanting to start a charity raising money for dementia patients who can't afford in home care. I believe I can use the funds from "reselling" lots to help others. This is a passion for me as I have experience in this area. Over 260-275 Barbie dolls 2 motor homes and accessories clothes etc….. old and a lot fro the late 80’s early 90’s when they were made better. Hooked on phonics
