They're not losing money. The items are donated. They don't even help out the homeless or veterans in need. They also toss alot of items for the landfills instead of pricing at realistic price and to sale the items.
Went to one here in West Virginia at that time didn't have much, homeless went the store to get me a coat walked in and found me a coat I was figuring maybe 5 dollars it was 25 have not been in one in for year my daughter says it gone way in price 😡
My mother told me she was in a good will and a young guy came in needing a white shirt for a job interview. He didn't have enough money to buy the shirt but wasn't that much short. They wouldn't lower the shirt even . 45 cents for him. And it was a used shirt and donated! My dad paid for the shirt, but told them he was done with goodwill.
Your father is a good man and a sweetheart. Salvation Army is a better place to shop or get help from. It's a Christian based non profit organization which helps people with many things food, shelter, job training, rehab and much more.
everyone that's going on channels saying, how good of a deal they got at the goodwill stores and then they go and sell them for 3 and 4 times more There messing it up for all the people that really needs the stuff for jobs or just because. They don't have anything nice. Stop showing how much money you're making off of it. But I guess now it's too late. Y'all done mess it up for everyone else. Just. Because you wanted to go on a channel and make money. Plus make money on your items. There's no good deals anymore because of you all.
Goodwill prices have become outrageous! It was originated to help people get jobs and have a place for people of low income to shop. It's not so much like that anymore!
@@roselee4445 It was always for profit. They don't help people with disabilities. They don't even pay people with disabilities minimum wage and they give them all the dirtiest jobs. Every year they raise the prices a dollar.
Both Goodwill and Salvation Army have both really raised their prices. The other day I went to Goodwill and they had clothing items donated with tags still on them from the original store and Goodwill's price was higher than the original price.
Glassblower here/ The bottom that is hollow is where the blow pipe is connected to the glass, this means it’s def 100% Handblown Soft glass. They had to create the “bubble” in order to create the shape of the elephant 🐘.
Good Will is tripping with their pricing. I went in and bought a used sweatshirt the other day I assumed it was 599 like the rest of the men’s clothes. I got to the register and it was 799. Come on… People can’t afford to pay retail at the Goodwill.
CEO's to pay (a fortune), won't accept returns, raised their prices, and they want you to give them your change! I'm ready to call it a day with Goodwill!
That is exactly right! I use to buy from them until my husband told me the story about how they lost their non-profit status. Have you seen the home and salary of the CEO? They are one of the greediest companies out there!
I too frequent the Walmart clearance items instead of thrift stores. I'd honestly rather have new clothing than used especially for the same or lower prices. Only like vintage or antique or higher end items are worth going to thrift stores because obviously you won't find stuff like that new or that is affordable.
the catter to the disgusting reseller trash now, its not for the poors any longer, just the stupid resellers tha need to hurry up and lose all their $$
If consumers stop shopping there as a collective over a month, itll force them into being reasonable. My sons grandfather was a number 2 or 3 person under the corporation back in early 2000s. He sed he didn't like the projection for the future and that the business itself was slowly losing its connection with the customers, putting him into a moral dilemma. He sed he himself was making a lot of money n wouldn't come close to wat the CEOs were making. He would say how r we making this kind of money off of gifted n donated goods. He took his cut n franchised a subway in runnemede. I thought he was stupid to leave a well paying job, especially after his daughter n i had jus had a child, and moving his 2 brothers, who r retarted and care for themselves into the home. I think they been struggling ever since 08.
Some of these "thrift stores " are so proud of their donations $$$, won't give you a price on an item that isn't priced, won't lower prices for someone in need. We were in one last winter and a man came in needing a blanket, and they would not help him. He was homeless and it was so cold. We took care of him the best we could and didn't buy anything else. I refuse to go back to that store.
You know what I hate when all the porcelain dolls are orange tag and SOMEHOW… orange day comes along and the same ones are all new green tags… such bs.
I noticed they like to pull that crap with the higher quality boots and shoes, except it was A tag color that never seemed to go on sale if I remember And when the color would come up as a sale discount miraculously all of those nice boots and shoes they had in my size were nowhere to be found Even though I was one of the first customers through the door that day.
@@kimyakowski9208 THANK YOU!! They raised prices because of BIG MOUTH resellers coming onto U-TUBE talking about "LOOK HOW MUCH HIGH PROFIT I MADE FROM SELLING THIS $2.99 ITEM I PICKED UP FROM GOODWILL!!" It' hilarious!!

That policy has been in my Goodwills in S.C. forever. I pick an item up with no tag, I just put it back. I have started more thrifting at other stores because Goodwill seems to think it is a high end store these days. I can go to a store with unused items, lol. I no longer donate to Goodwill either.
I shop at Catholic charity shops instead of Goodwill. They keep the prices low and are very nice people to do business with and the money they raise actually goes to helping the community.
@kimyakowski9208 I know everything is donated to them! I am 71 years old and I understand a lot more than most! I work for 37 years as an office manager and I did not fall off the turnip truck yesterday!
@@jennieclement2811 everything is not donated to them. They purchase bulk items from vendors as well. Every business wants to maximize profits. If resellers are getting top dollar they should to, otherwise they make less money to fund services.
Goodwill never loses money. It's the best business model ever. They get their product free and while pretending to be a non-profit, allows them to give the donors of their free product a tax write off, and they get most of their labor free through court ordered community service. So to recap, it's the best business model in on the planet. They get their product and most labor free, and the donors of those free product get to write their "donations" off on taxes. Goodwill NEVER loses money.
I was recently in Ireland and their charity shops put Goodwill to shame! The workers are all volunteers, the prices are low and 100% of the money they take in goes to charity!
100% lol MOST places beyond the ones being trashed on here are little more than one owners way of SOURCING his products and collectibles. Simple, set-up a dog shelter shop...Get all the tax breaks of a "non-profit". Bare-bones locations and decor helps the "scam". Decor you claim is BevHills on the 501 form. You not only get FREE donations, they are listed on the form as gifts. Being a nice little helpful shop the local taxman ignores the fact you collect nil sales tax. That is a nice 5% bump to your BL. Did anybody not watch Storage Wars? the 2 main people on their ran/run similar fake Shops.
when all the fun is over you simply dnate money to a dog shelter you would have done anyway but without all the good crap you gained from the shop. Which you sell on the side for a nice living.😆
@@johndough23We have a shop like that in my area. A thrift store where proceeds go to animals. I just highly doubt the animals see even half of what they make.
I started donating to the Salvation Army instead. They take everyone's donations for their charitable program & sell it all at approximately 429 ARC-affiliated family & thrift stores. The proceeds from those sales fund the ARC rehabilitation program, which is generally provided to participants without charge. One commenter said yesterday that when she & her 3 children were enduring a hardship including homelessness years ago, she was given vouchers to get 3 outfits & a pair of shoes for each of them to spend at Goodwill. She spent a long time helping each child pick out something that made them feel good, but when she got to the counter the clerk said "none of that is included for vouchers. Only specially marked items are." That story really bothered me & just goes to show what their company's core values consist of.
They even have the nerve to ask for a donation at the register (round up). I tell them " No, thank you, I already donated when I purchased the item that was donated to you 😊
Yeah there’s no need to be snarky to the person who’s at the register though that will inevitably get scolded by their boss if they’re not heard asking to round up.
I work at a goodwill and I can say the round up thing is bullshit. It doesn't go to anything good or helpful. It's all about the slow cashier's to get their bonus that month. I will proudly be the whistle blower at Goodwill. Omg I can't believe I ended up working for them
I was in a Goodwill store when they would not give a veteran a cheap blanket. I bought the blanket and give it to him. After that, I have no respect for them.
I have rescued beautiful crocheted pieces from goodwill in the past. Being a crocheter, I know the hard work that goes into those handmade items. Sad really. Been shopping at goodwill all my life because I could find great deals on things i could not otherwise afford. I am pretty much done with GW!😊
@@arkrosebud1540 Me too, I can't afford GW anymore because of resellers. At the beginning of 2024, I took online sewing classes & very happy making clothes. However now and then I do miss it.
My dear aunt used to make those blankets by hand. I still have the ones she sent me long ago before she passed away. She specially made me an "Irish flag" colored one for my grandmother's side of the family, a red/white/blue Americana one, and just a couple mixed color ones- jewel colors and pastel colors. I gave one to my mother inlaw but got it back when she passed! No need for it to go into a landfill

Goodwill is bad deal everything is donated and they don’t help anyone in need I stopped going to goodwill along time ago They all need to go out of business
I don't waste my time in Goodwill stores. I like going to thrift stores, like animal shelter stores, brother's keeper, yard sales and my favorite, estate😊 sales. You never know what you're going to find and very cheap. Have fun!
Our local thrift store now believe they are an antique store. They wanted 50 dollars for a book that was in horrible condition, same book on ebay for 20 dollars and in pristine condition.
Funny, I like to buy jewelry. One store I like had this gawdy cheap stuff in the case w big prices, 50 on some. I sat down w the bowls of $2.00 jewelry and found Return to Tiffany's earrings half off, pd $1.00, lol
I've seen Dollar Tree items marked at $1.99, $2.99, etc. Old used ice cream machine for $40. If they're going to charge retail prices, things need to be in retail shape. The prices at this GW are bizarre.
yea its insane, while there are still resonably priced good wills they are beccoming more and more rare. should just donate to a random church or a random group of homeless peaople, heck even if they sell it to buy drugs atlest it will goto poor peaople instead narccistic billinairs.
@@burghbrat3319 When pricing they don’t look at the brands and if someone revises the cart and doesn’t catch it there is also times when an item marked should be higher and they also don’t catch it
Goodwill is a for-profit company. They get ALL of their inventory for free, pay most of their workers less than minimum wage (yes, it's legal) and charge brand new prices on used items.
I had some pants bought for Grandson but didn't fit. They still had tag on them and I just wanted an exchange. Goodwill ran some # off the tag and said they couldn't find the tag # in their computer so wouldn't exchange. I left pants there as a donation and haven't been back in 5 yrs. My motto is there is "no good will at Goodwill" and I donate and shop at other stores.
😢 sad my family has thrift shopped my whole life. I sure have noticed lately that it's not as fun as it used to be. Goodwill has priced themselves out of being a thrift store that stuff is donated people come on.
@@annaculver1304 yep! I HAD to thrift shop for my baby and myself after I escaped fr an abusive husband and had to unscramble my head, get back on my feet, recover my beaten-down mind. I was thankfully approved for welfare and baby formula/food coupons but we still needed clothes and other things. I could get t-shirts and jeans all day long for .75 cents and $2.50. Now, that t-shirt in same condition sells for $7 and the jeans $12. I see Tees and jeans for far more than that, too. Now, decades later, Goodwills and other chain thrift stores are pseudo-boutiques judging by the outlandish prices. They've forgotten about the needy people and are pricing for the reseller's market. In a way, yes, the resellers have ruined it. Sure, people resold decades ago. But they weren't all making videos while trhifting, selling on ebay & PoshM, and didn't have a smartphone to search comparables! What can I say? GREED has destroyed the Capitalist-run countries. And those not run on a cap'st economy are STILL being destroyed by greed.
I don't even go into Goodwill anymore. They have jacked the prices so much. They took out the dressing rooms at mine so that you can't even try on clothes and, if you want to return something, you can only get a store credit.
They took out all of the dressing rooms across the country during Covid. They just said 'Nope we aren't bringing them back', and so it has been....sigh😢 But now the return policy is 60 days for everything with the price tag still attached and receipt. Even clothing and working items. Oh, but you don't get the original payment back. You get store credit that must be used at the time of return. Oh, and if you dont use this full amount, you lose it. Let's say you bought a $40 item, you return it, and you get $40 store credit to use that day. You find some other items, but it only totals $30. You lose the other $10.
I was born with scoliosis. At 48, I got to where I couldn't sleep an hour without waking up from my arms and hands going numb. I actually got to the point that I had to sit up to sleep. Lying down was impossible for me. It was really hard to function getting 2-3 hours of broken sleep every night. So I went for disability. They put me off for 3 years before giving it to me. To qualify, I couldn't work and couldn't draw unemployment. I had NO income. I was alone. I had used every penny I had saved to survive. I had to start thrifting to pay my bills. I sold purses. I would bring them home, clean them up. I could buy them at $1.00 and resell them at a good profit. Paid my bills for a while. Till they started selling the good ones for more then I could get reselling them. $20.00 for a used, donated purse! Thankfully, my disability came thru around that time. So don't bash resellers. Sometimes circumstances put people in positions where they have to do what they can to survive.
@FirstLast-ng7km yep they get everything! A couple used to live next door to me from Egypt, they got dual citizenship & they still got a helluva lot! Everytime she'd have a baby, he'd take 6 months off work & get paid for it. How does that work?
I think resellers are the reason for the higher prices.Every body knows they go to GW garage sales etc.I don't care about that. But I think GW cares a lot. They see these resellers making way more money on their items. They want that bigger money also.Heaven forbid someone else gets ahead.I have heard resellers say that they are recognized and employees are given the alert that they are in the store.People that don't have the money for mall prices have depended on GW for years. They are getting crazy on prices.Especially if it's a name brand. Those CEO's are living high on the hog. They don't have a clue what normal people go through.GET REAL GOODWILL.where is the good will towards your customers.
That's why I sell stuff online. I get to set the price to give someone a good deal and I get the money, instead of getting nothing and feeding another billion dollar industry.
Have you lost your mind. Of course you are going to pay sales tax to the State. It's the law of the land. You like the things the state provides you like roads, schools etc. give me a break and perhaps you didn't finish school or missed the classes when they taught us about taxation.
Thrift stores have decided they are boutiques and charge accordingly! I think they have forgotten what they were started for! when you can buy brand new clothes for cheaper than what a thrift store sells them it’s crazy. My particular favorite when they take stuff from the dollar store that still has the price on it and then charge you two dollars for it.
When I worked at Goodwill we only threw away items that were broken or recalled, especially any electric items. We would cut the cords to prevent anyone from taking them possibly causing harm. Our store was very small with great management, We only put out top quality. The remaining clothing and shoes donations were bundled and donated to a charity. Some people should be ashamed of what they donate to get a tax credit,
The whole point of a good will store is so that people who cannot afford to buy things in a regular store don't have To pay outrageous prices for things that they can't buy in a regular store.
@@barbrabakuhnlehner 30 years ago I visited a church near Atlanta and there was a SALVATION ARMY across st. They're not open on Sun. I found out it's not the people I thought shopped there. Never really saw anyone who appeared poor shopping in there.
I have come across a church resale shop and a community thrift store. Both sell quality items and the prices are extremely reasonable. I will definitely go back to both. I rarely go to Good Will or Salvation Army
Goodwill is a greedy company overall! They get free inventory & a bunch of free labor! Yet I witnessed a homeless person asking for a sleeping bag & they said No! A customer ended up buying it for him but there should be some exceptions made for those situations! Also they ask us to round up our change for the gift of a job!
Yes, I think goodwill is greedy as well, at my local goodwills, they've had items that were sets, marked at individual prices and I've asked to buy the whole "set" at one price and they wouldn't work with me . I heard that being a thrift store you could bargain with them but they have NEVER came down on prices for me or worked with me on prices if I bought more of 1 item or tried to make a set out of items. I've grown to hate Goodwill anymore!!
I used to work for them. A homeless person I knew came in and asked me if he could have a coat. It was winter and bitterly cold. My manager said I could not give him a coat. I could, however, buy him a coat and give it to him, but I had to be off the clock and my shift had just begun so... I bought him a coat 8 hours later and then couldn't find him. Thanks Goodwill, for selling the soured milk of human kindness. I won't shop there or donate there. I donate to Catholic Charity where I know the money goes to help the local community via Catholic Workers.
Goodwill is no longer about finding “that missing piece” of Denby, at a reasonable price. They’re getting on the same boat as resellers; but unlike Goodwill resellers, they’re asking full retail price of everything they sell. I’d stay the hell out of there.
Just yesterday I bought a media collection for $10, cds and dvds. Sells used on Amazon for $250-300. The mass of resellers pass on these items for one simple reason >LAZY. Because these are sold in a clamshell format most assume they are cassettes and 1980s. Nope, fail. I find these exact sort of media items 2-3 times a month and I source maybe 2 days a week. Gotta think deeper than "goodwill is a rip-off".
I stopped at a local GW and found 2 large framed flower pics with Kirkland price tags that were $99 each. No GW price. I asked the lady working there and she said, “Ohh.. how about $2 for the pair?” SOLD
I think I took the sticker off😅. I think they were 50 and I thought it was overpriced, so I just took it off😅. JK. But when I see crazy prices I am like, srsly. Even a 70s dress or jeans that is just old and gross will be pricey because some dumb guy is in the back with a price gun. 😅 Zero taste, not a shopper in a real store, just some dude that thinks an old disgusting dress is worth $ 20 where it should be 5.
This is the first video of yours I've seen. I honestly appreciate how you don't show people's faces! I wouldn't panick if I saw you filming. I know you would respect my privacy. (We have foster children, it's a huge concern when we're out.)
Goodwill needs a REALITY check and then held accountable for their deeds. Goodwill is supposed to help people...not take advantage of those that need items , but have limited funds to shop. Bet corporate goodwill employees make a crazy salary.
Doesn’t goodwill get this stuff for free ..I’ve donated things and never received money for my oldies but goodies…really the whole idea for GOODWILL is to help folks buy things at easier prices. 😮
The whole idea of Goodwill is to fund their mission. Along the line they have been helping people buy things at lower prices. The prices are going up thanks to all the reseller videos.

Value Village in Canada is the same. A nightshirt from walmart that you can get for $10 new is $8.99 and they have boxes from the dollar store with the dollar store price still on it and they charge more than the dollar store price. All of the stuff is donated.
Yes! My municipal government is advertising for Value Village in government waste regulation information. They state donating to Value village is preferred rather than putting stuff in the garbage. While in the long line to donate I saw a woman empty her truck of dirty bed linen and other gross items. Value Village will tag them and charge top dollar. Basically my Value Village is a landfill.
I went to a Goodwill or Salvation Army thrift store 1 time. And I was shopping in their. And I found a Brooks Brother's Men's Sweater. I bought it went home looked at the sleeve. It was 300 dollars on the tag. From Brooks Brother's. I bought it at the Salvation Army store for 50 cents.
We had 7 jids in the family. At some point, my parents ran the numbers and realized they couldn't afford to shop for clothing at stores anymore and went to thrift stores. This was back in the early 1980s. Thrift stores were really places to go when you were in need. Now, it's just overpriced. I donated a lot at Salvation Army, but when I went there lately, I saw the issues with prices. It's now just cheaper to go to Temu. Now, part of why this may be happening is because people use thrift stores for bargain hunting. They aren't in need. They're just trying to find expensive things priced cheaply.
I work at a thirty store, and have a goodwill in town. We help our community n goodwill does not! We except donations as well but we don't have the high prices as they do. People are always complaining about goodwill prices. Lol. If u come to Gallipolis ohio, come to the outreach lol
I worked for the homeless in Columbus Ohio. We went to GW to try to get clothes for our folks. They wouldn’t give us any deals whatsoever even though we were buying a lot. I will never give them another dollar.
Our clothes are 1.75 and 2.25 for jeans and namebrand like American eagle, Nike and underamor are 3.00. Can't beat the prices and we also give clothes to the needy!
I knew this was happening a long time ago and it’s because of RUclips videos as much as I love watching these I knew as soon as Goodwill saw that people were googling prices reselling their items with their prices would go up. They did so much that I can’t even purchase and I’m just one person who would like to buy for my own home with my simple income.. plus it’s Goodwill’s and always has been when they get their items free!!
Actually, Goodwill should not be adjusting their prices because of resellers they should keep their prices low so they can turn over the items and people will keep coming
They might get their items free, but there is a cost for them doing business: employees, lights, insurance, dump fees etc. etc. Not to mention the time it takes going through literal crap that people donate and cleaning items caked with grease and dust.
I just donated a pickup truck load of vintage items to Goodwill... Maybe we should all stop donating to thrift stores that want to be antique Boutiques
Remember the "invited guest resellers" grand opening of the new store..(2 new store back) ( also covered on another channel) they were "introduced to the "NEW SOCIAL MEDIA GOODWILL EXECUTIVE" and it was stated their job was to watch social media (The resellers were personally introduced and if they had "any questions" to contact her. And her job was to teach all pricing people giving classes on how to look up items to know to send the better items to "Goodwill online" and how much socisl media ebay is selling for to be more competitively priced as they put out items. Hence 9-5 pricing people have a quota carts to be put out and so now next day so they can be done for their day and deal with it next day routine.😢 Goodwill has become their own "Reseller" ...changing times!
I overheard a GW manager talking to an employee about the pallets they were buying to resell at their store. So no I don't think it's all free from donations. I also see alot of repeated items nwt shein target old navy walmart priced pink tag over $10. While I find an Armani dress 50% off from $7.99 😂
Those afghans are crocheted not knitted! They are nice ones. Somebody put a lot of hours into making those and the yarn to make them would have cost way more than what they were asking.
I know Goodwill cooperation may have rich people at the top. Our local Goodwill is amazing. They help security disability evaluate people. They train people. They partner with our local Credit Union and do a match program where they match every dollar someone saves with $2 or $3. We have an amazing Goodwill here. Of course, minimum wage goes up, cost of living goes out, they have to raise prices.
@MikeyBagsOfMoney That was supposed to be social security. 🤣 I wish people would go and talk to their local Good Wills and find out what they do. Each one helps out their local community in different ways. I'm sure there are problems with each of them. They also do a lot of good. I've sorted donations for other charity thrift stores. Good Will is not the only one raising prices. Not the only one that puts stuff to the side to research how much they can charge. Not the only one with corruption at the top. We should all do our research. In the end? I think it's how much they help your local community. I've also worked retail. I know how thin the margins are. I also know that just because someone donates something for "free", it doesn't mean that it's free to: sort through, check, clean if possible, throw away what can't be salvaged (that's not free), pay utilities, pay employees...ECT. I just get tired of the comment section sometimes. End of rant. I promise. Lol
Some of the goodwills around me have had that policy for years with no exceptions. My main goodwill will price items for me if the pricer is working that shift, otherwise its a wait until the next day. Never thought of people pulling tags hoping for a better price but that explains why some of the employees are so mean about it at other locations.
I'm a reseller w booths. The theft and breakage is unreal! I write detailed descriptions on my tags. Has helped a little. But if the cashier doesn't pay attn and just sells the item anything goes. One dealer had a $65 table walk out the door. Prob tag was changed to a lesser item and was sold as that. Gee gads. I can't stand a liar or a thief. If u don't have $5 in your pocket don't go shopping. Or should I say shoplifting. It's a criminal offense! And one of the ten commandments. Get a clue
If you shop off season sales prices are much better than good will, I tried they online store when you add the shipping, handling and taxes you can buy the item New 😂
It cracks me up when resellers complain about thrift shop prices, when they brag about getting something cheap and how much profit they make off it. The thrift shops are just finally charging market value for items to make money for their charity.
Seriously. I saw one being like "Oh, that's a bit too steep, but it's pretty" for a large handmade pottery vase that they were selling for $7. She still bought it, and sold it on her website for $150.
I understand why Goodwill changed their policy about items without price tags. I've seen people who have removed or changed tags and got upset when they couldn't buy the item right then and there. That isn't to say there aren't good bargains to be had without monkeying around with the price tags. As an example, I went to my local Goodwill as the clerk was just putting out a Carnival Glass punchbowl and cups in their special case next to the cash register. Even before she had a chance to complete putting the set on the shelf I told her, 'I'll take it'. There were two antique dealers behind me who were chomping at the bit wanting to buy the set. I took the set to a specialist in Carnival Glass. He said that it was an original, not a reproduction, and was in one of the rarest glass colors, dark purple. He said the set is worth at least $1,000. And what was my outlay? $69.99.
US $949.00 for that exact one on Ebay & COALPORT ROSE TERRACE FIGURIE $1,144.02 Others range in price from $477.57 & US $429.62 etc. . So $50.00 is a deal, IF there are people buying them? What Ebay asks and what ebay gets is two different things.
I like high prices. I look for the high priced items everywhere I source. Those are the items that make the most amount of money. I'm just never offended by high prices. I would rather buy 1 item that makes a few hundred that 20 items that make $20 each. I would have bought the Coalport piece after comping it. It had all the hallmarks of a good piece so it was worth checking out even if you hate porcelain and glass. I would have used my UPS store to pack and ship the piece. I would give up $25 of the profit to the shipper and offset the risk.
Went to the local goodwill and wanted to try on some choices. They don’t have a fitting room anymore! They explained you have to buy what you want and then you get like 7 days to bring it back if it doesn’t fit or whatever and such high prices. Nope, done.
I stopped shopping at Goodwill a while ago. Last time I was there, I saw some shawls (used) that were priced higher than the same or even nicer brand new shawls in a store a couple of blocks down the road. Overall, the prices became way too high.
Not only that, but the items are actually brought right to the store by the donors. The salvation army has trucks on the road a driver insurance to pick up from your house. So Goodwill avoids all that expense by making the donor drive it to the store.
My daughter was going to donate a refrigerator that was in good condition. She called Goodwill and asked if they would pick it up. They said that she would have to pay $150.00 for them to come get it. I kid you not!
These stores like Value Village, Goodwill are now for profit stores, not that this is wrong but gone are the days where you could once find awesome deals, sterling silver items, rare books, paintings, guitars etc. The donation centers all have professional pickers that take the good items, price them, and either keep them for auction outside of the store or they way over price them for their special "high end" cases. I no longer go to these stores, though it is rare that I will come away with an overlooked piece of silver (if you're smart and know what to look for), rare books and the odd trinket. I used to find the best guitars in Ohio and Kentucky stores but not anymore.
Last time I bought something with no price, I found a comparable item for $1.99, new to the rack, right next to it. Handed both over at the register & they marked it at $4.99. It was a small glass candle holder. Bought it because I felt obligated and very ripped off. They knew they had a buyer on the hook at that point and maxed out what they felt they could ask for. If someone likes something & can’t afford it until their payday, they may reserve the item by taking the sticker off so nobody can have it. Bad policy!
Why not just tell them it is worth 1.99 sure they would have considered it. If not say no thanx and get the other one. Says more about you than an unknowing worker.
@@RobertLee-wi5kc probably should have, the store had just opened that particular register, and a line of people were backed up while the employee was getting the candle holder priced. It would've been such a pointless exercise for the store employee had I rejected the pricing.
As a reseller, the rise in prices has definitely cut down how often I go to goodwill and how much I actually buy. I have found things thwy had priced well above their value. If a reseller cannot make a profit then there is no point in buying. I can't remember the last ime I actually saw 75% off. It sucks because more stuff goes to waste and fewer vintage and antique items are purchased and saved for posterity. I have seen so many beautiful, historical items tossed aside, but the collectors that buy from us want a bargain as well. Otherwise they can't afford to collect as much. There have been definite ripples.
Yay Mikey congrats on 16K subscribers Goodwill definitely makes it hard on us resellers, but we just roll with the punches and keep going. I'm not surprised the high priced Goodwill store is closing, ridiculous pricing for sure.
Having a hollow glass figurine, only means that the piece was blown glass. solid figurines are not blown, the molten glass is gathered and formed using hand tools. (Similar to pulled ponies)
I use to work at Goodwill 10 years ago and we had a dollar sale once a week on items except furniture and new stuff which was half off. And a new company took over and prices went up the roof because people put things on eBay.
I wanna know how Goodwill is LO$ING money if someone switches a tag??? (Not that I condone doing that). However, LO$ING $$ 🤔hmmm, nah they get free items, their prices have increased so dang much over the past 10 years you can almost buy brand new for some of the prices I see in some not all the goodwills in my area. They are supposed to be selling as a non profit and to help people who either live at or below poverty level buy needed items. Last time I stepped in an actual goodwill store, they had Old Navy shirts prices at $8-9.00 u can get em brand new for that. Ridiculous
@@devilblueduke my bad was driving and txt’n 🤦♀️… Thanks for pointing this out, for my grammar corrected on my drive in to the office this mornin’! 🤗 Have a good one hun.
I've shopped this LV Goodwill boutique many times while visiting Vegas, and I thought the prices were high. I did find a few items with tags that were brand new, like a leather jacket and suede purse. My hubby spotted a large Haeger figurine of a couple that I was happy to take home. I'm not surprised they're closing this store.
ALOT of people are NO LONGER donating to Goodwill, instead, private thrift stores, or salvation army. The sole reason for donating is to help less fortunate people acquire things they need, not pay upscale prices for the Goodwill to get rich.
You can definitely sell the crocheted blankets for lowest $35 and up. Like the white with the flower could sell for $65 and up. Depending on the size, if it's larger than a throw blanket size. Items like that, hand made, you can ask good prices. Remember they are all one of a kind! Congrats on your scriber high❣️ Very cool 👍👍👍
I would say that judging from the quality of other items in store and the extensiveness of the collections, that you are looking at real Murano. Someone had a lot of money. I am seeing items like the hat stand, the religious figures and the two pedestal vases on the collection table that are high quality. I bet that filing cabinet had all the receipts for her purchases. Even the glass pieces you picked up from the top shelves was from the same house.
You know for a store that gets a lot of their stuff for free I should say most of their stuff for free they got balls charging what they charge. I used to love shopping there until I recently moved to Florida and went to Goodwill and seen that I wasn't paying a whole lot less than what I could pay at Walmart for clothes . And never mind household goods . You know if they would lower their prices they would sell a lot more.
I read an article that Goodwills in general were raising prices because people of more affluent income brackets were now shopping there. All the good stuff goes to the processing centers for their online auction website where the prices are pretty outrageous. They did away with the senior discounts and the coupon punch cards. At least our local ones still do the Sunday/Monday clearance.
Considering the items are very often donated (if not always donated) the prices in this Goodwill are way too expensive. My local Goodwill, very sadly, had a reputed issue some time back where staff were said to be pocketing the most desirable objects for free before the items even reached the selling area. The reputed reputation is possibly true since i read about two different court cases where two different former staff in two different Goodwills were convicted of theft.
Good video as always. Our goodwill as been that way for year's. If no price sticker no sale. And we can't look in the carts as they bring out. Can only shop if it's on the shelf or rack. That's in kansas city, Missouri.
Our GWs are just the opposite on the carts they bring out. They will bring them out and leave them for shoppers to pick over before their employees start shelving the items. If people pick from the carts its less for the employees to have to shelve.
I went to Salvation Army one day and the manager of store came out of his office and told the clerk we have to do 5000.00 in sales today cause that what we did last year on same day. How disgusting.
We started every day at GW going over if we met yesterdays goal and what the current days goal will be for Each dept. Corp usually tacked on some % increase over last years goal. They're true A holes. (Corporate and mgrs).
Those prices are ridiculous! They are marked for 4 times what they're worth. Many years ago I used to shop GW for towels and bedding for my dog boarding and grooming biz, and to send bedding home with the rescues I placed in new homes. With a little sewing I could make some really cute dog beds. When I realized their prices had gone so high I could buy bedding cheaper from retail stores than at GW I quit going.
Walmart has a similar policy. I found out by the manager that they no longer price items outside of its packaging or packages with missing items at customer service, that item will not be sold. I was told that customers were intentionally removing the packaging to get a lower price.
That Deja Blue Goodwill is nuts. I thought ours was bad. As far as shopping at goodwill, the only things I buy at Goodwill are uniform bottoms for my kids since they have to have khaki shorts for school, and sometimes I find nice purses. The shorts used to be like $2 and now they're $4. And the prices are never computerized on tags like this. They just attach a crappy tag to it and write on marker whatever price they feel like it that day. I go on Tuesdays when I can get my senior discount. I do NOT donate to Goodwill, I donate to Women in Distress because it goes directly to the shelter, and the rest is sold in their thrift store but the money still goes to the shelter.
Northeast Ohio reseller here. I really enjoy your videos! Goodwill has had that pricing policy here for years. It’s annoying but I understand why they do it….some people be sneaky and gotta wreck it for other people.
That upper end Goodwill place is for the birds. I bet they Upped the prices, cause they knew they were going out of business ! I get it that prices have gone up everywhere, But they're taking advantage now days !
Please Donate to the Salvation Army. There prices are around the same in some places BUT they are a Charity who helps the poor! The Salvation Army have food pantries, emergency services, room & board, that’s where their profits go too.
My wife has been saying this about resellers ruining it for low income buyers for 4-5 years. Used to be we could buy decent clothes for the children and have a large selection to choose from. Reduced that section to 6 racks for newborn to about size 12. Now there is rarely anything in any size. We live in NH. USED TO get LL Bean garments in the store-new and affordable. Haven’t seen that brand available there in years. Going to the on-line auction! Disgusting ! Answer- don’t be low income bc corporate needs to make more millions. Our donations are ALLgoing to locally owned thrift shops like those run by churches
Also most resellers are not buying kids or baby clothes. Tell your wife to rethink her thoughts. We pay what's asked we do not get it free like goodwill
@@CE-jl1lv it’s so random their fixation on LL Bean. I don’t know any resellers who sell LL Bean unless it’s very cool and old vintage stuff. A couple years ago my local GW started the "no tag, no sale" policy, but out of the blue they stopped. Since that time, prices have doubled. I get it. Pickers. Free market. No hate, but that's a bigger problem for us poors than missing price tags.
They're not losing money. The items are donated. They don't even help out the homeless or veterans in need. They also toss alot of items for the landfills instead of pricing at realistic price and to sale the items.

Yes they should donate rather than toss in dumpster!!
Disgusting when the customers are bringing the goodwill to the goodwill customers . Good on your kind Fathers.
Your father is a good man and a sweetheart. Salvation Army is a better place to shop or get help from. It's a Christian based non profit organization which helps people with many things food, shelter, job training, rehab and much more.

@hulynchow8505 I have scoliosis too. I sleep in my recliner, more comfortable than the bed
I hope the best for you, my plight is similar and it's so confusing why people that need help rarely get it. If only I was born an illegal immigrant..

What's appalling to me is that Goodwill charges taxes! People have paid taxes on the items being donated!!!!
Not good business!
Have you lost your mind. Of course you are going to pay sales tax to the State. It's the law of the land. You like the things the state provides you like roads, schools etc. give me a break and perhaps you didn't finish school or missed the classes when they taught us about taxation.
At least in Las Vegas Goodwill does not charge sales tax.

If you think they're losing money check out the videos where people dumpster dive through all our donations GW threw in the garage.
Some people should be ashamed of what they donate to get a tax credit,
I've seen brand new items with tags in their dumpster.🤷🏼♀️ @@sandybrenda3226

Goodwill is a greedy company overall! They get free inventory & a bunch of free labor! Yet I witnessed a homeless person asking for a sleeping bag & they said No! A customer ended up buying it for him but there should be some exceptions made for those situations! Also they ask us to round up our change for the gift of a job!
Yes, I think goodwill is greedy as well, at my local goodwills, they've had items that were sets, marked at individual prices and I've asked to buy the whole "set" at one price and they wouldn't work with me .

Las Vegas Goodwill is awesome. I have met a lot of amazing people that work with and for them
@MikeyBagsOfMoney That was supposed to be social security. 🤣
I wish people would go and talk to their local Good Wills and find out what they do.
I promise. Lol
People who need stuff should go before people who resell stuff people donate in good faith !
GW prices have been out of control for yewrs. They aren't even a charity anyway IMO
Get a clue

It cracks me up when resellers complain about thrift shop prices, when they brag about getting something cheap and how much profit they make off it. The thrift shops are just finally charging market value for items to make money for their charity.

US $949.00 for that exact one on Ebay & COALPORT ROSE TERRACE FIGURIE
$1,144.02 Others range in price from $477.57 & US $429.62 etc.
Just check the advanced and see what past items actually sold for.
I am not finding any sold comps on the Rose Terrace. Some of the dishes go for better prices when it comes to Coalport.

I remember bargaining on furniture prices at a Salvation Army twenty years ago. Good ol days.

I have seen dollar tree items at Salvation Army for more money then the dollar tree charges. Thrift stores are way over priced.

Our GWs are just the opposite on the carts they bring out. They will bring them out and leave them for shoppers to pick over before their employees start shelving the items. If people pick from the carts its less for the employees to have to shelve.

Resellers aren't ruining anything. They don't price the stuff high at Goodwill, Goodwill does that.
Also most resellers are not buying kids or baby clothes. Tell your wife to rethink her thoughts. We pay what's asked we do not get it free like goodwill
I see LL Bean new with tags in my Goodwills every week. It's not a high quality brand, nobody wants to buy it.
The resellers are buying vintage usually not precious LL bean clothes….
@@CE-jl1lv it’s so random their fixation on LL Bean. I don’t know any resellers who sell LL Bean unless it’s very cool and old vintage stuff.
People just always want to have a scapegoat or something or someone to blame. Everything is always someone else’s fault in America. A nation of adult chikdren.
A couple years ago my local GW started the "no tag, no sale" policy, but out of the blue they stopped. Since that time, prices have doubled. I get it. Pickers. Free market. No hate, but that's a bigger problem for us poors than missing price tags.
