Great help! Thank you. As a new user of Android Auto, I've learned several features from your review. Thanks again for taking the time to do this review. Yes, it is over a year old, but still very useful.
To the question of the day: I use Android Auto simply because my phone is Android. My wife's car is set up for iPhone because that's what she has. Very simple. Thanks for the video!
At first, I had a little trouble with your accent --- but this was such an informative video tutorial! Have not been able to find a 'native speaking' video presenter that was as thorough and as insightful as you. Bravo!
Having traveled the world and experienced many who have learned to speak English as a non-native language, I have come to appreciate that they don't speak with an accent so much as I hear with an accent ;-)
This is a great video - I tried AA (before theis update) and didn't like it - my headunit was better...... But now its much better. This video shows it off really well.
This is a great video! I have three questions: 1) Does the phone have to be connected all the time to use Navigation? 2) If you pass through an area with no cell service, does the Navigation go away? and 3) If I started in an area with no cell service, can I use the Navigation feature? Thank you!
1. In order to use Android Auto, your cell phone has to be connected via a USB cable, unless your car is equipped with the wireless Android Auto function. 2. Navigation will not go away if there is no reception. However, the online functionality like real time traffic, et. will not work. 3. AA maps are downloadable, so they can work without any reception.
Thanks for the video. In answer to your question at the end, I use Android Auto on my phone because the standard Fujitsu head unit in my 2018 Subaru Forester is close to useless. I have not upgraded to an Android head unit (yet) because the product information provided by all the head unit manufacturers and their UK retailers is so confused and unhelpful that I fear spending £500-1000 on an installation that turns out to be no better than the Fujitsu.
Great review of AA. Waiting for a firmware update on my car to support full screen. Also, some cars are equipped with wireless AA so you don't need the USB cable. If not there is a new device hitting the market that plugs into the USB all the time and brings wireless to most any car that has a head unit. Not sure how it works yet as I am waiting on delivery.
Also, check out my other video about the Multimedia Video Box. It will give you much more than just the wireless AA. It will make your car smart, where you can watch videos, RUclips, Netflix, mirror your phone to your car screen and much more. Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/y4DwI1gAUJM/видео.html
Great video for those of who are trying to figure out how to use our equipment. Just brought home a new GLA and they gave me the 5 min walk-through of how the electronics work and sent me on my way with an invitation to drop by of call if I have any questions? Questions? Only 5 every time I try to use the electronics. You provide a great service. Want to point out that my car has a newer/different version of the software than the one on the video (yours = 6.1.6100544, mine =6.1.6100545) which changes the way to add apps to Android-Auto's on-screen menu. The my (newer?) version requires only that a compatible app be loaded on my phone and it will show up in the "Customize launcher" portion of the Android Auto setting screen. There is no setting for "apps for Android Auto" as in the video.
You can do it either way - you can download apps via Google Play and it will be available in AA automatically. However, if you go via "Apps for Android Auto," (like I've shown in this video), AA will filter out any non-compatible apps, so you know it's compatible before you download it.
I have a 2022 Tucson and was looking for how to make Android Auto FULLSCREEN, like CarPlay. My wife has an iPhone and CarPlay works really well with a FULLSCREEN capability. Android Auto needs work. Split screen is fine, but why on such a small screen. You don't normally split screen your iPad or PC. I'm an Android guy and Google has some catching up to do to keep pace with Apple's CarPlay. FULLSCREEN capability is what most people want.
I actually prefer the SPLIT screen instead of FULL screen, so I can see and control different apps at the same time. As I've shown in this video, for example, you can see and control Navigation and Music on the same screen. I think it's more useful than stretch 1 full screen at the time.
@@bomatdaman You don't drive a car with Windows, Mac, and Linux when you need to see the telephone and navigation screen at the same time. Plus, I use multiple windows on my computer all the time. Actually, I have 2 monitors side by side and at least 2, 3 windows displayed together when I do my work.
@@bomatdaman You're wrong. MOST people do NOT use full screen in Windows or other computers. They normally have several things open on the screen and switch back and forth. CRapple Car Crap is HORRIBLE!!! It's nearly as useful as AA, and the ONLY thing it does slightly better, is how it looks when you open it. Outside of that, it falls flat on its face when you need to do anything of use. AND it's relegated to ONLY CRapple apps. Which they all suck!!! We've done several side by side comparisons, and ACP just looks good, but isn't useful at all with its limited apps.
As I'm a massive Android only guy, no question which one I use 😉 Android Auto used to be full of bugs, but these days it's a treat! And with WiFi capable head units... damn man! Seamless!
Me too. I'm stuck with an Android phone since the first one came out about 10 years ago, and never had an iPhone. By the way, you don't need WiFi capable head unit, because the data comes from the phone connected via USB.
@@MBZMaster Nice, my first Android device was a ZTE Blade from 2010 🙂 What a beast! Yea, regarding WiFi head units in some cars, you don't even need the USB cable, the data is sent thrugh WiFi 🤓 I think that it's so magical! Honda has some videos about that feature, maybe an idea for a future video? 😉

You can even add wireless android auto to older systems by using a dongle, there are multiple options available. Really cool, especially for navigation
No need to order Navi. However, depending on the model, Navi may come with some extra features for your car, like Voice Control, bigger screen etc... Plus, if something happens to your phone, you can then use the stock Navi.
I have installed a 10.25 inch display in my car but unfortunately I can't make it fit the screen even after allowing resolution up to 1080 on Androidauto settings from phone. What should I do?
Android Auto works in 16 x 9 aspect ratio, but Google will come out with a new update in a few months that will allow you to have a fluid, multi windows screen.
Not on 2013. AA rolled out on some 2016 - 2017 models, and it's widely available on all the latest models. I actually made my first video when Android Auto became available in 2016 here: bit.ly/MBZM-Android
It depends on your model, but you need to connect via USB cable, where you see an image of cell phone. On MBUX models, you'll see a tab with Android Auto that you have to touch. For previous models I have an older video how to connect AA here: bit.ly/MBZM-Android
You can access all the messages... but by voice. AA doesn't want you to read the screen while driving to prevent accident. So, you can read out loud or search messages by voice. Obviously, when you stop driving, you can read your messages on your cell phone or home computer.
Very nicely done. I have a question for you. Got 2021 a250 can't get it to remember last played song from flash drive. Every time I enter the car it starts playing from the first song. Do you know how can I fix it? Thanks
Probably it's because USB drive turns off with the key (is not powered when the car is off) and doesn't have its own back up battery to keep the memory. Instead of using USB, use your cell phone to stream music as I've shown in my video tutorial, you can watch it here: bit.ly/VM-4
Great shirt! I just received the new one in preparation for Qatar 2022 World cup. Do you know by any chance, how to close applications on android carplay? I've tried to force stop google maps on the phone but it remains open on the screen, and if I select another app, carplay splits the screen and leaves google maps open on the side instead of just showing me the date and time as it used to do it before. Are you Argentinian living in California, or you just like the shirt?
I'm not Argentinian, but I liked their style of play at the time when I bought this shirt about 20 years ago, I also ordered #9 Crespo shirt from Adidas at the same time, and I still have both. Google Maps is an essential Android Auto app, which can't function without it, so it's impossible to get rid of. But I think you can change the primary Navigation app to Waze in your phone, so do a little search because I've never tried it.
Because Android Auto has a separate audio adjustments than all other sources. Watch my MBUX quick shortcuts video, where I demo how to do it in one of the shortcuts here bit.ly/MBZM-8m
Hej MBZ! Very pedagogical presentation, keep it up👍. Got A180 2019 got Android Auto on my cell, but when I try to connect via USB doesn't work on my MBUX?? Any thoughts, my residence is Sweden 🇸🇪
I agree with @aruna260 , make sure to connect to correct USB port. Also, go to Android Auto Settings on your phone, as I've shown in this video, and enable Autolaunch. If you have MBUX, you can go to APPS and select Smartphone Integration.
HI, Great content. I am facing an issue ..After connecting to android auto, none of the apps work.. I mean, there is no internet connection., I have my mobile data on all the time and also have enabled smart detection ( Switch between Wi-Fi and data). But yet internet doesn't get connected to my car. Any solutions?
The internet connection is not in the car, it's in your phone. So make sure your cell service includes a data plan, and there is an internet reception in your area.
Does this work with android phone. My friend has a Samsung android phone he ordered carlikit 3.0 carplay auto android. It dies NOT work with his phone. Only works with IPHONE so I don't want sane problem. I have 2021 mercedes gla 35 , Samsung s10 plus android phone. Thank you
Sure it's bit.ly/MBZM-MMB , but I just want to make sure, this Box doesn't work with Android Auto. It has it's own Android OS, where you can use Google Maps, RUclips etc... Watch some videos at the above link.
You should either replace your system for the newer one, or find some aftermarket add-ons to add the Android Auto capabilities to your existing multimedia system.
There is a ton of aftermarket products offering an Android Auto. The best thing is talk to any of your local car stereo shops, so they can recommend the best solution.
Hi. I have a question. After disconnecting from Android Auto, the entertainment center goes straight to FM radio. Is there a way to make it go to the "Bluetooth" instead?
I specialize mostly in Mercedes-Benz, and occasionally on some other brands. I'm not very familiar with Toyota. But once you disconnect AA, it has to go straight to where you left off. So instead of using FM radio when you connect to AA, use MEDIA input, or something similar. So once you finish using AA, it will take you back to where you left off.
@@MBZMaster thanks for replying. I've had a 2019 Camry, same V6, but without AA. The whole entertainment system connection was horrible. I thought Toyota fixed it by now, but they didn't. I always keep it connected to Bluetooth, infact I haven't used FM in ages, definitely over 10 years 😂😂. It's Toyota dumb infotainment system. Thanks!
Great tutorial, thank you very much. I love to use Android Auto, the only problem I encountered is that it is VERY,VERY picky about the USB cable you use.
Usually no problems with the newer Type-C USB equipped models. But if you have Type-A USB, you need a good quality that can hold a grip, while shaking during the driving. Cheap Type-A's loose the connection pretty easily.
As I've shown in this video - you can't. Depending on the make and model of your car, you either have to wait until Android update will be compatible, or your vehicle software update will make it compatible. However, you may need to update your Android Auto app inside your phone if it's not up to date automatically. Some cars, like Jaguar in this video, are already compatible.
I got a Android 5G Cell Phone, NO I don't use Android in a car, Cause I don't drive, will it make a difference cause its a 5G cell phone??? Using a Android Auto in U.S.A.??? Thanks...
#MBZ Can Android Auto connect to a car (F-Pace) wirelessly and if so how is it done please? And also, does using Android Auto use a lot of cell phone data?
Wireless Android Auto is capable and available, but only few cars are compatible at the moment. F-Pace is not one of them. AA doesn't use anymore data than you normally use on your phone. But most people have cell phone plans which include an unlimited data, which I recommend anyway.
Probably because Samsung Music is your cell phone's default. If you watch this video at 15:48 you'll see your cell phone settings on the screen. One of those settings is "Google Assistant," where you can change your defaults. Go there and select "music." There you can link other apps and make them the defaults, as you wish. Let me know if it worked.
Thank you, MBZ Master. Question: I have a 2019 SLC, not split screen, not touch screen. How do I play audio saved on SD card through Comand while connected to Android Auto?
You can play audio and video from your SD Card as I've shown in my Mercedes Manual Part 4 video tutorial here: bit.ly/VM-4. While playing any audio, hit NAVI button in the center console. It will take you straight to Android Auto Navi screen, while still playing your Audio from SD Card.
@@MBZMaster Understood. However, while AA Navi is displaying, if I hit Media, nothing happens. I wish to see the Media screen, to click down to Search, to select a different file. The Radio button, though, opens that screen.
@@MBZMaster Correction--hitting Media turns on the Google maps icon at the lower left of the AA Navi screen, but nothing else happens. No media plays and I can't see the Media menu screen.
In AA apps menu you can hit "Exit to Car," to have the car controls. In my next video, I'm going to demo an interesting gadget to solve many problems with AA, so stay tuned!
As I showed in the video, Mercedes doesn't support the split screen yet. It's not up to Google, but it's up to Mercedes to update their software and make it compatible.
Did you enable developers mode in AA and allowed video support 1080p/allowed unknown sources? Screen always on when device is connected? Enable developers mode in settings and turn on usb debugging. Did you try AA aio tweaker and force widescreen mode on rooted device only. The small screen splitscreen is at 480p. Try 720p - 1080p
Hello very useful your video. Please tell me why I can't see all the applications on the screen that you show în the video.I have the last model gle mercedes MBUX and I can't see Waze for exemple. I went allso to mercedes and they don't know. I have a friend with Audi last model and everything work very good wireless and all the applications but he has iPhone.I have Samsung. Thank you very much.
First, make sure to install Waze on your phone. Second, make sure to update your phone to the latest version. On older models you may need to do it manually, or even inside the Android Auto settings turn to the newest version. I have a video where I showed how to use it on older Android OS systems. You can watch that video here: bit.ly/MBZM-Waze
Hi, Thank you for the videos. They helped a lot. I have a 2020 sprinter. I like it but I couldn't figure out how to save an address to the navigation system. Could you tell me a good way to save the current location. I'm used to save to Address Book. But I cannot find the address book in 2020 Sprinter. Thenks a lot.
Probably, because your car uses your phone's address book. So instead of saving to your car, maybe you need to add address to your contacts in your phone. It depends on what type of Navigation you have. Watch my video tutorial how to save a current location here. It maybe a different model than yours, but it will give you idea: bit.ly/MBZM-9Nav
I agree, but don't forget Apple is a closed source and works only with 1 phone - iPhone, so it's easier for the car manufacturer to integrate it in vehicle's software. Android is an open source - free for all, and it works with hundreds of different phones and devices. So even though Android Auto is capable to work on the full screen, it doesn't mean the car companies can integrate it as easy as just a single iPhone.
It's not up to Google, it's up to a car manufacturer, whether they want this integration to happen. A lot of car makers want to keep their own technology. But some are open to a non-intrusive integration. For example, the latest Mercedes-Benz let's you see the Android Auto in the instrument cluster.
Mazda HUD module allows AA integration with Google/waze some DIY mod since 2017 AA splitscreen etc. Brandon do you have a video or link to show AA/ACP google/waze on your HUD, does it shows street names for each turn like in mazda? ruclips.net/video/oG4Ez9H2eX0/видео.html
With Android Auto is there a way to see the full Directions / Steps for a route as a list? I can't find this anywhere, but with normal google maps on android phone you just hit the directions / steps button. Is this not available with Android Auto / google maps integration? Also annoying that you can't use google maps on your phone once Android Auto is activated in the car.
My Kia Xceed has a 10.25" screen,Android Auto fills only 2/3 of the screen.I have just had the firmware and software updated from Kia but I still have the same issue. My phone is a Galaxy S21+ Android Auto is built into this phone. AA is not compatible with this Kia system.Apple car play works perfectly! I think Mercedes have now Fixed their issues,I am hoping Kia do the same.
If you cancel the split screen, it will be 16:9 aspect ratio. So it will not cover the whole screen, leaving big black gaps on both sides, as I showed in the video. And you'll need to keep switching between screens. For example, if you want telephone or radio, you'll need to close the navigation screen so you can see only 1 app at the time. You will not be able to see both at the same time.
@@MBZMaster Thank you but I just want to make it full screen while watching movies or videos My screen is narrow and long like a 10 inch cinema screen If I make it full screen I think it will be very enjoyable while watching movies or videos so I want to do it
Any video will keep 16:9 aspect ratio, regardless of the size of your screen. All TV's and monitors maintain 16:9 size ratio. If you watch my video bit.ly/MBZM-AnB , when I use the Android Box on Mercedes E-Class - it stretches to the whole screen. But as soon as I start playing video - it goes back to 16:9 aspect ratio.

I have an issue with the Android Auto app, when I play music it plays well for few minutes and then the starts getting stuck. This has been happening for few months now.
I don't think it's a problem with AA. Most likely, either problem with your cell phone, or you're in the area with a bad reception. If you think the problem is with AA app. Just uninstall it, reboot, then install and reboot again.
Great video!. Thanks. I just purchased the 2021 Honda Ridgeline RTL-E . I installed Android Carplay in my Samsung S20-Plus. Every time I say "Ok Google". It says "Something is wrong". I can't get it to run. I tried different data cables, even brand new ones. I also tried another Samsung S20-Plus from my wife and I get the same message. What could it be? l
Make sure to install the right app, called "Android Auto" (not Android Carplay), which is made by Google. Do you have a voice control button in your car? If yes, try to press and hold for about 5 seconds and see if it activates the voice for AA, same like I've shown in this video.
@@MrYayoperez On your Android phone, go to Settings > Apps > Android Auto > Storage and clear both Cache and Data. Reconnect phone to your car and re-initialize Android Auto. If that doesn't work, try a different cable.
Try another USB port. My music-filled USB thumb drive will only work on the port, below the screen, not the one near the rear seat. I own the 2021 Honda Pilot.
Android Auto is updated on your phone, not in a car. Should be automatic, but you can check manually in AA settings whether you have the latest version. Your vehicle software update should be performed at the dealership.
MBZ, great review. Very comprehensive! Just one question, does Google maps display the street you're driving on when you're driving around normally? I.E. not navigating to anywhere, just simply driving around the streets. Thanks again! :)
Google Maps displays a lot of info on its map, plus it's customizable. And it also tells you how long to get to your previous destinations, before you even enter them. And it's always up to date. Original Mercedes Navigation looks much better and more convenient, however it's not always up to date and not as smart, as I showed in this video a few examples.
@@MBZMaster you need an app to change the dpi the Android device is reporting. Check RUclips or Google, there are explanations you can follow if you like 🙂👍
Mercedes screen is not an Android device, so you can't change DPI of Mercedes display. Plus, even if you could change DPI, it would just change the size of content, but not the width and height of the aspect ratio. If you've seen anyone doing it successfully, please share the link with us.
@@MBZMaster take a look: ruclips.net/video/b-HkHFou5bM/видео.html - this device enables Android Auto Wireless, and is basically an android phone itself. Can u help pls, is there a way to disable that ? Thanks
I guess the reason they made this box is so you can quickly take a peek while driving, because it's very easy to immediately locate it on the screen. You can also use alternative Navigation systems like Waze and some others that I'm going to test in my upcoming videos, so stay tuned!
To make it work properly you need a phone with V.10 or higher You need a USB Data lead, not a charging lead. This is important, otherwise it will keep disconnecting.
No, it's not because of the phone... it's because of the car's software. In this video I used exactly the same phone in both Mercedes and Jaguar. While it split the screen in Jag, it didn't in Mercedes. The same phone in both cars. The vehicle software has to support it, in order to work.
@@MBZMaster did you enable developer mode on your Android device and in AA app and other features? Android v6-v9 enable developers mode in handset settings and USB debugging must be enabled. Now in AA app enable developers mode, select developers, enable video support upto 1080p and allowed unknown sources. Connect your handset via Data usb transfer usb cable to meced-ben car and see if you get full widescreen? For Android 10+ disable usb debugging but enable developers mode in phone settings and AA app. Very disappointed that you did not install waze for AA and didn't demonstrate how it shows on the car headunit splitscreen. because if music app is primary (larger region), waze will be on smaller scale but will not show the map in this area due to layers error code, only navigation direction will appear. Also splitscreen mode is not new, its a setting in AA code resolution just not available to the public when AA was first released.

This will change the game in the automotive industry when it comes to Android auto.
in my 2017 E-class android auto does a 70-30 split of the widescreen but the 30% section only displays the android auto logo and nothing else... /facepalm

Great show super video as always. So would you say that we don't need to invest in navigation expense when ordering vehicle? Thx
New to the channel. I'm in love 🥰 😍 ❤️ You covered just about everything I wanted to know!
Welcome aboard!
Great video thanks. Will this work on 2013 model cars? I'm really just worried about Google Maps.
Not on 2013. AA rolled out on some 2016 - 2017 models, and it's widely available on all the latest models. I actually made my first video when Android Auto became available in 2016 here: bit.ly/MBZM-Android
how do i disable split screen? I have a dasaita 10.0
All fine and good, but you don't start the video on how to connect your android phone. Did I miss it?
It depends on your model, but you need to connect via USB cable, where you see an image of cell phone. On MBUX models, you'll see a tab with Android Auto that you have to touch. For previous models I have an older video how to connect AA here: bit.ly/MBZM-Android
Is there a sms app that allows the user to access all messages? Not just messages received during “the drive “.
Hi why android auto sounds more harsh when playing music from spotify compared to when i pair to headunit's bluetooth music app?

Make sure you use the correct USB port the one which has a screen icon
I agree with @aruna260 , make sure to connect to correct USB port. Also, go to Android Auto Settings on your phone, as I've shown in this video, and enable Autolaunch. If you have MBUX, you can go to APPS and select Smartphone Integration.
HI, Great content. I am facing an issue ..After connecting to android auto, none of the apps work.. I mean, there is no internet connection., I have my mobile data on all the time and also have enabled smart detection ( Switch between Wi-Fi and data). The internet connection is not in the car, it's in your phone. So make sure your cell service includes a data plan, and there is an internet reception in your area.

Hi. I have a question. After disconnecting from Android Auto, the entertainment center goes straight to FM radio. Is there a way to make it go to the "Bluetooth" instead?
What year and model of your car?
@@MBZMaster 2022 Camry XSE V6

Any USB C cable will work.
great intro video sir :)
Yes i use android auto in my car . It has a good maps visually, but the music sounds meh. How to make music sounds good ?
can we turn off permanent google maps? like make only one app at a time?
You should be able to change the default navi in the settings of your phone.
I have a question, how can i turn on that fullscreen mode on android auto
As I've shown in this video - you can't. Depending on the make and model of your car, you either have to wait until Android update will be compatible, or your vehicle software update will make it compatible. However, you may need to update your Android Auto app inside your phone if it's not up to date automatically. Some cars, like Jaguar in this video, are already compatible.

On my Mercedes A35 amg 2019 still shows half screen
It's going to change very soon. I'm planning a new Android-Auto video very soon, so stay tuned!
Спасибо большое. Всё четко и конкретно. Огромный респект!!!
Why does Android Auto automatically open my Samsung Music app when I connect my phone? I have a 2021 Honda vehicle.

Anyone know when full screen android auto on merc MBUX is coming yet? Mine is still cut off with big borders on each side.

Where do you go to check if this latest update is compatible with your car?
You go to your car, plug your phone in, and see if it works or not. That's the only way to see.

@@MBZMaster Thank you for the answer. I'm wondering if we can get a Mercedes Me Adapter in USA? Thanks.

It's annoying that the split screen mode cannot be disabled so the map fills up the whole screen.
Personally, I prefer a split screen. This way I can see and control 2 apps at the same time, and don't have to change screens all the time.
@@MBZMaster But why not give the user an option? Apple Carplay lets you decide.
Hi, any idea of when auto and android auto will provide the control of head up display (the real integrated on the auto)?
It's not up to Google, it's up to a car manufacturer, whether they want this integration to happen. A lot of car makers want to keep their own technology. But some are open to a non-intrusive integration. For example, the latest Mercedes-Benz let's you see the Android Auto in the instrument cluster.
The Honda Accord allows this, my 2018 Honda Accord Touring had AA and ACP in the head up display and in the instrument cluster.
Very cool!

Android Auto doesn't connect via Bluetooth. It needs much stronger connection via USB cable, if your car supports AA software.
Hello, how can I cancel the split screen and use it as a single screen in Android Auto?

MBZ, great review. Very comprehensive! Just one question, does Google maps display the street you're driving on when you're driving around normally? I.E. not navigating to anywhere, just simply driving around the streets. Thanks again! :)
Yes, the Maps follow you all the time, even if you didn't enter the destination. So you can see everything around you.
@@MBZMaster But does the street name display anywhere prominently? At the top/bottom of the screen as it does in Here WeGo?
Google Maps displays a lot of info on its map, plus it's customizable. And it also tells you how long to get to your previous destinations, before you even enter them. And it's always up to date. Original Mercedes Navigation looks much better and more convenient, however it's not always up to date and not as smart, as I showed in this video a few examples.

The splitting has to do with the dpi, you can force this on every android auto car 😊👍
How?
No, it's not because of the phone... it's because of the car's software. In this video I used exactly the same phone in both Mercedes and Jaguar. While it split the screen in Jag, it didn't in Mercedes. The same phone in both cars. The vehicle software has to support it, in order to work.
