Wow wish I knew these long time ago. Never knew I have a solid comfort machine at my beck and call. Mercedes is indeed a vehicle like no other. Thanks to the tutorials. It's so rich in content and guides. I must view all of the posts. Thank you and thank YOU.
Thank you for the excellent video instruction. When I first got my car, I played around with the dynamic settings to see what the difference was between them. Eventually, I settled on the sport steering and suspension with the engine and transmission set to economy, and it's what I use the majority of the time. Well thought out engineering from Mercedes. Since I bought the GLA 250 4Matic used, I'm going to try and find your other video on how to reset the transmission. I watched it once and forgot to actually try it!
I have a E43AMG, the sports+ mode is a heck of a lot of fun, but for long drives, it is so sensitive to gas pressure that it becomes annoying: the moment you decrease the pressure, you get proposed forward... the comfort mode on the car is still fun on a long ride, the car is still 'prime' for acceleration, but for passing, impossible to resist the sport mode... So long rides I use eco or comfort... sport for passing and sport+ for pleasure... and yes, there is a lot of difference in gas consumption. Adjusting the personal driving modes and using user presets at entry is a great way to address any driver preference and ensure you get the best out of your car: you can make it the way you like, and that is great!

Sport+ is exhilarating, when you have an open highway with no traffic, and no bumps on the road! I love it. However, I wouldn't use it all the time, because it burns gasoline... like there is no tomorrow!
@@MBZMaster exactly. I just use it when getting into the freeway and want to catch up with the hi-speed traffic. I have a Stop sign and the entry to the freeway is just about 300 ft away, so I use Sport+ from Stop to get into the exit. The RPMs go to 7k before shifting gears and acceleration is awesome.
Video time 1720 You are holding the steering at 'five to one' It is taught in the Uk to hold the wheel between a quarter to three and ten to two. Good show keep them coming.
I did a little exaggeration to show the difference between the a quarter to three and ten to two. It has been always thought in U.S to hold the steering at 10 to 2. But I was pointing out that on the latest steerings - quater to 3 is the way to go.
Your video here also points out how very good it is of MB to offer different settings for differences in people. I fall completely opposite of you as with my arthritis and past injuries I always want the easiest steering possible, as well as comfort suspension. There are a lot of cars now a days that the steering becomes too stiff for me when the car reaches about 40 MPH. And I have to say no to buying a car like that. One of the best uses of comfort setting is expressway driving in cross winds. It's much easier to be able to make the slight adjustments needed, than the excess effort required by steering set in sport mode being too tight and heavy. I don't think the sport mode's stiff and heavy steering works well for anyone on extended expressway driving, hour after hour. Except for those who must have a more track like experience.
As always, another great video! I do want to point out on thing, though. I know there are notches for your thumbs in the steering wheel and it is so tempting (and comfortable) to use them, but I advise against wrapping your thumbs around the wheel. This is something I learned way back when I started driving in the early days of airbags, with my first car...1986 MB 300E. If your thumbs are wrapped around the wheel, an inflating airbag can exert enough speed and force that it can literally break your thumbs as it pushes your arms apart. The chance is not great, but it is real enough. Remember that in an accident, a person has a natural tendency to grip the steering wheel harder which further focuses the force to the joint.
Thats most interesting. While i have had the Vehicle Data on display during driving of my C43, I have never tried switching the drive modes while in this display to notice various highlights that shows up for different modes.
Thank you a lot for this video , now after a few time to see it I finally understood how Indv function work , And thank you for all details in all the videos , cheers from Norway .
I am new to MB so I learned a lot from this video. (From my comments it may be apparent I have to spend more time in the owner’s manual.) My previous cars have been either Porsche or the Audi S-series. In general, I find it a little irritating when you can’t define your own default conditions for when the car is first started. Perhaps the individual mode settings may be close enough but it’s a pain in the ass to have to go through the equivalent of a preflight checklist to get to your preferred setting. I hate this auto shut off mode for example and the dealer tells me they can’t change the default to “Off”. I would be a lot happier with these amazing cars if I could give the service department my individual default conditions and let me make adjustments from there.
A lot of people voiced the same concern, but you have to realize it's not MB issue. It's rather a local law regulations issue. For example if you could force your car to automatically start from Sport mode with ECO shutdown feature turned off, MB would be required to provide different MPG figures at the time of new car sale. Obviously the car would be less efficient. That would force MB to either produce less cars allowed for sale, or they would need to reduce the power of their engines. The problem is solved by automatically engaging ECO and starting from Comfort mode. By the way, you can set ECO to off position in Individual mode. But personally I got used to that feature + it saves a lot gas.
Havent tried individual yet, but i actually just bought it, still getting the feel of the carm i bought a 2017 M-B GLA 45 AMG and so far i love it, it was very interesting watching this, i havent gone into the car data that much yet, i would probably have found out myself eventually cause i like to try settings.
@@MrBPM75 I don't have specifically for this model, but I have a lot of videos for Mercedes in general. So you just need to check what's compatible with your car equipment.
I am loving your videos! I just bought myself a 2015 C250 Estate. Unfortunately mine does not seem to have the Engine Data menu in Individual settings like yours does. Would be cool to see how the suspension changes etc. Maybe it's a different system in the 2015?
Hi, Thank you for your hard work of converting the MB guidebook into a more consumable format! Well Done! PLEASE assist as much as you and your audience could! I bought MB ML 350 2015, and there is no such a feature, however, the only comfort and sport modes are available. That means there is no way I could choose the individual mode, or still there is a way in some special secret menu? Thanks in advance!
Mercedes steering wheel are usually the vario steering wheel it’s stiffens when on motion it also stiffens when the wind blows this also work with wind assist
Awesome 👌video. Very informative. Is there any way to save the individual mode so that every time I drive my 2016 C300 base model, the steering is stiffer and the ride is in comfort mode? Thank in advance.
When you setup your Individual mode, it will keep your settings. So next time when you engage Individual mode, all your settings will be saved, so you don't have to change it every time.
I'm going to change from comfort to individual next time I go out in my car. I have used different selections before but I found it always defaults back to Comfort mode the next time I start my car. Is there a way to make the selection permanent? (I drive a GLC 300) Thanks again for another helpful Mercedes Benz video.
No, you can't. Not because of Mercedes, but because of EPA. If it was possible - the MPG ratings of these cars would be much different, and not in line with EPA guidelines... forcing manufacture to make smaller and weaker (but less fuel-thirsty) engines. Defaulting to Comfort (C) mode every time you start your car - is a little trick to offer the needed performance... while maintaining an acceptable MPG.
Thanx for your explanation. I would like to know from your experience is GLS reliable car? Can you please make one vedio about reliability? Thanx again
Any car is reliable, as long as you take care of it. Older pre-2014 GLS's used to have 1 common problem - Airmatic suspension. But MB found a way to address that issue and I don't hear about that problem anymore. If you are looking to buy a 5 year and older GLS, firstly - make sure to check the condition of the air suspension.
I wouldn't turn ESP (Stability Program) off, unless you're planning some serious racing, putting your car into the skid. Steering - I prefer always in Sport, as I showed in this video.
ESP always works in the same ratio and brings your car back to stability. Comfort, sport and sport+ for ESP in Individual differ in how late ESP sets in. My Mercedes has more than 500 lbf ft and never swerved with ESP in Sport. That allows me in tight corners to let one wheel slip (mostly the rear inside wheel) without getting the torque reduced immediately.
While "Dynamic Select" doesn't control the 4Matic's wheels torque distribution directly, it affects it rather indirectly. It does affect the suspension, steering, braking and acceleration. All of which have a definite effect on the 4 Matic systems. It's especially apparent in the vehicles equipped with the "Off-road engineering" package.
@@MBZMaster Thank you for the reply. I have wondered why driver's are not able to directly select some options like 100% FWD, 100% RWD, 50:50 split, and system controlled torque distribution.
I think for the same reason people abandoned a manual stick-shift. 4Matic is one of those smart new technologies, which can react to the road conditions faster than any human can. It uses mostly the rear wheels, but will transfer torque to the front wheels if not enough traction. This system can also transfer the torque side to side, and it's one of the few systems, which can transfer 100% of torque only to the 1 wheel, in case 3 others lost traction. If your has "Off-road Engineering package," you can use "Dynamic Select" in "Offroad+" mode. It can control traction by means of specific, wheel-selective braking intervention, -which simulates the effect of an active locking differential.
Good stuff. I have a 2014 ml350 and the rear tailgate won't open or close down when I open it through the emergency latch. What's the problem and solutions to getting this rear tailgate to work please?
Where is emergency latch? If your ML is equipped with the Power Rear Tailgate, your SmartKey has to have 3 buttons. If you push the 3rd button and hold for a few sec. it will open the tailgate, press again the tailgate will close. You can also open/close from the switch in the driver door by pulling/pushing the switch. You can also open the rear tailgate by simply pulling the rear door handle.
I have another question if you don’t mind. When I press the park assistant button in my 2018 e400 car I get the message on the screen parking pilot inoperative. Is there anything I can do myself to troubleshoot this issue ?
Does it happen all the time or only when it rains? If water gets inside your bumpers, the sensor will stop working until it's dry again. Bit if it happens all the time, you may need to check the bumper sealer.
Yes, most of the new smart technology can only work with automatic transmission. Mercedes manual stick is not even available in the U.S. anymore. But you can still override to shift manually with the steering pedals, but without the clutch.
@@MBZMasterThanks for your prompt reply. Our B200 developed a fault on a rear wheel, which says fault on abs sensor. The car had an Annual MOT and tracking adjustment on front wheels only. When I drive car 200mtrs from garage, dash lights galore!!, no PAS, TC, ABS, also shows handbrake fault. @@pasgas12safe58 If messages come in and out intermittently, most likely the problem is with the sensor itself. But you need to do a proper diagnostics anyway.

Master: Thanks for explaining the Rescue QR sticker in the gas filler door! I didn't know. Great. However, when I try to locate the auxiliary battery on my 2016 S212 it gives me a diagram of a W212, with a wrong location for the aux battery. What do I do wrong?
Probably because the diagram is the same for both Wagon and Sedan. Depending on the year of your model, the AUX battery should be either in the trunk area, or if it's a smaller one - it should be in the upper left side of driver dashboard, behind the fuse box. Some models, like S-Class actually have 2 AUX batteries. Another common place, like in the C-Class is under the passenger footwell.
Hi, thank you for all your videos. Can you help me to tell what might be the problem if exterior lights under mirrors and door handles does not light even if we set up from the menu. Thank you
i bought the car recently and this is the first time I try it. I tried to drive slowly as well and same message appeared. Would cleaning the sensor from outside help with that ?
You can't, because new Mercedes cars show MPG numbers based on Comfort mode. If they shown MPG based on Sport, they would be forced to produce less cars, or make smaller engines. So legally, you have to consent to wasting more gas, by pushing the button. So, legally, it can't stay in any other mode than "C." But you can change it manually if you want to.
2011 GL didn't have the Dynamic Select technology yet, so you can't change the dynamics of the transmission, engine, steering, or suspension electronically. However, some places may be able to sport-tune it mechanically.
Replaced the battery for two reasons: it wouldn't start the day before and had to be jumped and the next day it was not shifting gears. So now still having gear shift problems, won't drive more than two miles an hour and seems transmission is locked up. So did the reset with the key and gas pedal. This will solve problem for a day but then have to do the reset again. Any suggestions? The mechanic (not a MB mechanic) did do a computer reset which helped for a day. I am going to order a dip stick to check trans fluid. Any other suggestions? Thanks so much!
If the transmission isn't shifting, can be a few different problems. One is software, the second is transmission may need to be serviced. For that, I would recommend visiting the MB Service department (or independent shop specializing in MB), so they can do diagnostics. Sometimes the software update can fix a lot of problems. But the transmission itself may need a service too.
I have a question for you, my car e400 2018 and when I select eco mode, the car engine doesn't stop when I hit brake, it used to do that before, but now it doesn't. Someone on Google said that the engine has to be hot for this to work, is that true ?
Correct! The Start-Stop will not engage unless there are safe conditions, like for example, the engine has to warmed up, the battery is adequately charged, etc... It has its own defense before it engages.
There are 2 different garage door opener types - standard and Rolling code. They program slightly different. I'm going to show how to program in one of my upcoming videos, so stay tuned!
Hello from Noosa, Queensland Australia, thanks your videos are fabulous, easily understood and you get to the point, unlike our American friends who love to talk lots 💕 You are also entertaining ❤️ I have just bought my second, used Mercedes’. She is 9 years old and in amazing condition. Hardly any obvious wear and tear, big kilometres, but she’s diesel so that’s ok with me. Plus I know the previous owner who loved and looked after her. The only real issue is that e manuals are no longer available for my 2012 car. I have a hard copy, which is not adequate as it keeps referring me to the e version! My E 250 CDI black coupe is everything a granny could wish for, for her last car. One quick question relates to disabling ‘keyless Go’ with 2 clicks to preserve the cars battery. The double click on my key still gives me keyless access, so am I to assume it doesn’t turn off the car battery? And if so what precautions can I take to ensure I’m not draining the cars battery? I also noted the small battery inside the key went flat sooner than I expected. Any feedback would be gratefully accepted! Cheers Alex Baker
You have to press the LOCK button twice very quickly to disable the Keyless Go. It doesn't disable the key, only Keyless Go. Or keep your key 10-15 feet away from your car, so they don't bother each other.
Good stuff, but to be honest I just drive my Sl AMG and don't fool with the buttons too much. I have never explored half of whats there. Gear shifting point changes do NOT create G-forces. The tightness of your steering will affect G’s but except for minor longitudinal acceleration G, gear shifting will not affect lateral G’s. 🤦🏻♂️

If I'm not mistaken, the "Dynamic Select" feature was introduced in the next generation of CLS-Class in 2018. There is no way to add it in the previous body, because it's involved in every aspect of the vehicle architecture: engine, transmission, suspension, steering etc... It has to be built in the car from the beginning, can't be added later.

So you probably hit the "shift paddle" on the back of the steering wheel, and your transmission went from an automatic to manual. Or maybe you hit "M" button on the middle dash. D6 means - 6th gear Automatic shifting. M1 - means 1st gear manual shifting. If you hit paddle with "+" sign and hold, or hit M button again - it will switch back to automatic.
If you use "Drive" in Comfort, then match it with "ESP" - in Comfort. But definitely keep the Steering in "Sport". That will make a big difference in the handling of your car!

When you setup your Individual mode, it will keep your settings. So next time when you engage Individual mode, all your settings will be saved, so you don't have to change it every time.
@@MBZMaster Thank you for the information and thank you for responding so quickly.
Great video!
What mode when individual mode should I put my esp in when drive is in comfort and steering in sport?
Thank you!
12:30 *Sport Mode in W247 B200 AMG - Tried it once and wheel spin and black lines up to 90 MPH*
Very clearly presented. Thank you. Question: Do the dynamic select modes change the torque distribution between front and back axles?
@@MBZMaster Thanks. I will be going to a Benz dealership next week...curious see if the salesperson knows as much about 4matic as you...
I just learned a lot!
Are these adjustments only on Automatic MBs?
Love the videos, we have a B200 premium, 2.1 tdi, manual.
It's ok but could do with a but more punch tbh.
This is intermittent and sometimes the fault doesn't show up & car drives normal, but can appear suddenly whilst in motion.
1 garage says sensor replacement and another is mention wheel bearing too?Any advice really appreciated.

Thank you
I would check your car fuses first.
i bought the car recently and this is the first time I try it. I tried to drive slowly as well and same message appeared. Would cleaning the sensor from outside help with that ?
Hi, how do you leave the dynamic select in individual mode? When I stop and start the car, it defaults to Comfort mode
Hello MBZ'
i have a 2011 GL 450, can you please describe in a few steps how i could adjust settings to be more sporty
Thanks
@@MBZMaster thank you 😊

I have just bought my second, used Mercedes’.

Gear shifting point changes do NOT create G-forces. The tightness of your steering will affect G’s but except for minor longitudinal acceleration G, gear shifting will not affect lateral G’s. 🤦🏻♂️
Can you program the CPU to release the governor so that the engine car run to it's max and not cut out at much lower speeds.
