@Billy Dorney interesting. I usually don’t need voice commands as I set Waze before I go and put a playlist in tidal (my media controls are on the steering wheel). But I already have the iPhone and it works similarly well to Android auto. I do prefer the software layout of Android auto and how I seem to need to navigate less to accomplish the same, but I am pleased with the iPhone.

Their restrictions are a bit of an overkill. I can understand not wanting someone watching a movie, but to not be able to search for the song you want to hear using the touchscreen is a bit much. Most of us have common sense enough to not do it during rush hour but if we are on a 6 hour car trip and the nearest other car is 40 miles away, its not going to kill you

Great review. To me the key thing about these systems is you are shifting the technology from the car to the phone. Phones are getting updated all the time, both in the OS & the hardware, whereas that almost never happens with car tech. So something like the built-in GPS in a car is going to seem pretty flash when the car is new, but in 5-10 years time is going to be completely out of date.

I have a dodge ram in Florida, and had to upgrade (knowing what I know now, I would have bought an older tablet and relocated the a/c controls below the tablet, and would have had an iPad instead of the android Phoenix Vertical screen I paid 650 for!), either way, I loved the comparison, and 100% agree google maps has a blanket over the competition when it comes to location devices hands own. I use both system on my car (Note 20 and Iphone 11 pro max) and this is my honest feedback:
    Android:
Pros: More simplistic, faster and allows more apps to be used. Google maps is well optimized since its android after all although I often use waze, better voice command recognition, helpful traffic and weather updates, higher resolution I like my screen in HD.
Cons: Music streaming apps like (Pandora and Spotify) for some reason, doesn't show all of your music. I think this is because Android is forcing us to use RUclips Music (consipracy lol). Black background is too boring and flat for me (personal preference). Call quality isn't great but not bad.
    Apple:
Pros: User interface is much better and you can change the background which is nice, music streaming apps are perfect, widgets are really useful so you can see everything in one screen like your nav, music and notifs. Superb call quality.
Cons: Pixelated screen ugh! Siri is trash and slow.
Conclusion: I like using applecarplay on long rides because usually I only need Waze and Spotify because everything else is planned. Short rides I prefer the android auto, you get a ton of info around you and google maps real time updates are awesome. Hope this helps!

Waze is not bad but Google Maps helps dynamically adapting to routes and better telling which lanes I should stay on exits etc.. Waze, in other hand gives me choices to get roads with HOV, and a better idea o what’s going on which road.
Back to Google Maps, it’s pretty good to tailor multiple destinations through voice control where Waze messed up.
Both with some pros and cons.
Apple Maps is just bad and leaves a feel it had some potential. Why worry if you have way more reliable options for free?

Well, you don’t really have the choice. I have an Oppo, so I use Android Auto. The last big update on Android Auto is really good. But, there are still some issues :
    - You can use only Google Maps ou Waze as a navigation system. Not open to TomTom, Here, Sygic, etc...
    - You loose GPS Connection in the tunnels
    - On the Skoda, you can’t use the navigation on the virtual cockpit. On the other car makers, you don’t have the navigation instructions on the head-up display.
    - No wireless connection with AA. On my Skoda, and probably yours in this video, CarPlay has wireless connection
    - Not sure, but it looks like very light version of Google Maps or Waze, so you don’t have all the fonctionnalities. Traffic info are strange on Waze. At least here in Switzerland. It could be due to legal restrictions.
Really great tutorial ! Regarding the user interface, I’d rather prefer CarPlay.

    • @huawafabe
      @huawafabe 3 года назад

Google maps is the best navigation software by far, and it's free. So no reason to get a TomTom. In Tunnels, it loses GPS of course, because there are no satellites above. But google maps doesn't crash, it just continues with constant speed. Wireless Connection just drains your battery, it's better if you connect it anyway, so the battery gets charged and you're prevented from using your phone while driving.

I own a kia cerato 2017 and from a spotify music POV I prefer Apple car play, when i used Android auto the overall quality was quieter and the whole os would just stop working about 40 minutes into the drive. I had recently upgraded from iPhone 8 to an S21 and I keep the iPhone in my car just to use car play.
Keep in mind I never configured it or anything I just used the default settings so the problem might just be on my end.

I’ve used both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but I’ve settled on CarPlay because I had a lot of issues with Android Auto not starting up and not connecting to my car intermittently. About 1 in 3 times I’d get in my car to drive, connect the Samsung Galaxy Note 9, and Android Auto wouldn’t launch. If I tried to manually launch it, it would fail; and the only way to get it to connect was to reboot the phone. With the iPhone 11 Pro Max and CarPlay, a connection failure happens about 1 in 10 times.

I will be very interested to see what the app creators produce as there is a huge amount of options that AA could use to make it an even better system.

There's always been a knock on Apple Maps that it's just not as good as the well-established Google Maps. Thing is though, that for the most part Apple Maps will sort you out and it's often been easier to just use the default option but I am glad that they've allowed us to set other apps as the default option now. Obviously whether you use Android Auto or Apple CarPlay will just come down to what smartphone you use but it was good to see the differences ;)
