Nice change, but it really needs to allow the user to put anything they want in the smaller right window instead of it being just for music. I want to have the weather, calendar or any other app there instead.

Nice review.
I received the update 3 days ago, and was pleasantly surprised. I have a Subaru Outback Touring XT with the 12.9" screen and the layout works well for me. I had not explored it fully yet so your demo was enlightening. I am very pleased with the new version of android auto 👍
Noticed the change last week. It's fantastic. As someone else mentioned already, I have to also mention, there is a wallpaper setting. It's very good.

Thank you so much for this video. I am enjoying the coolwalk feature in my Q5 too. Finally Google done it in a best way. But because mine is not a touch screen it's a little confusing to navigate the features but that ok as it is new and we are still learning.

Yeah, but you have to use their choices ONLY. How is it that Android, the king of custom, is stupid enough to lag behind in such things. They should be way out in front of CRapple on this. We should be able to customize the shape of our icons, use ANY pic we want for backgrounds and put any accepted app into the smaller screen, not just music. Google NEEDS to get off their lazy asses, and take the reins on these things. AA could be ten times better than ACP, especially with Google Asst being ten times better than Siri. But they seem to drag their feet on everything these days.

Version 8.8.x is what I have, and it also looks like this. Couldn't really tell what 8.9 changed, if any. Probably just performance. I think it works a lot more smoothly than before in my Stinger. I wish that the timer count for music and audiobooks still displayed when the car is smaller on the right. There's clearly enough space for such information.

I didn't do anything, and 3 days ago I noticed the screen in the car was different. I don't want a nav screen on if I don't NEED IT. I was able to get it removed, and the music playing screen back to full screen.

One thing to add here. If u have the latest version of AA on your phone but still unable to get full screen in car, check if you need to update the car infotainment firmware...which is usually the case
No it's not. AA is run on the phone. It's because the server side update hasn't updated on your phones ensure yet
Right. Some cars have additional settings that need to be changed. We had this issue in our Hyundai

Question, using a windows computer, how do I turn off the ALT key behavior from enabling any of top bar menu selections? I would like to utilize the ALT key for more shortcuts but it's hard cause for example if u do a ALT+E the Effects drop down Menu will active and open every single time n it's annoying to use n very productive when ur trying to edit fast.

I believe fullscreen only works for maps, not a bad thing.
I bought a new BMW and the very same day I got this. Very satisfied with the new Android Auto UI.

Is there a light mode where the black background behind the icons is white? The black is too dark in my car. Apple carplay had a light mode

Thank you for that indepth tutorial! I have a question hopefully you can answer. I have a late model Mazda CX-5. How do I switch back and forth from Android Auto and the Mazda Infotainment/ Voice Command System?
You're welcome! There is a button in Android Auto that says "return to Mazda" and that brings you back to the Mazda interface. Also, if you press the voice button once, Mazda's voice assistant will listen, but if you hold the button down, Google Assistant will listen. Hope this helps 👍
Great video, but one suggestion. When demonstrating google search or navigation, please silence that part in your video as you command "hey google" etc. My kitchen google home unit was quick to respond to your inquiry. Otherwise, great work!

My connection is with Motorola Dongle, Samsung Galaxy S22, and 2018 Honda CRV head unit. The problem is that using Google Assistant keeps resetting the app.
Pleasantly surprised by this update last week. Too bad Mercedes still has that 7in display on a 10.5 inch screen!
When can we report when there is a cop up a head without unlinking my phone and using my google maps app to report one?
Very frustrating update. Can't resize anything. Swipe something away and have no idea how to get it back. The weather is now missing from the Google map. Can't figure out how to put anything else in the windows. Nothing in the settings helps. How do I choose what I want in the windows?
I am now pretty sure I have it. I turned "widgets" on .. no idea what that does, but I will try a few things as right now it look pretty much like it did before .. but the icons did move to the bottom a couple weeks ago.
Hang on a second... How did you get the heart button on the main screen without having to push the dot buttons at 8:38????? Also you don't have the 3 dots you have some kind of weird broadcast button.

It's nice, but I lost my temperature display, kinda bummed about that. But I did read today that they are working on it.

On the small screen next to the map, it used to show the radio station I was listening to .... then it showed news stations and also You Tube .... how do I get my radio stations back in this space??
Great video and it's mation what I want to know is somebody text you usually you reply right then in case it's busy what happens you're driving and you have to be in park to use the text message that's not going to help when you have an emergency just wondering that's what you were saying I could be wrong but I never update any of my applications until I completely have to their work just fine the way they are until they tell me
Thanks! You can still respond to messages with your voice while driving, but if you are in park then you can tap on recommend text replies
Can you do a split screen on Waze. Even my old split screen. Waze can't?

While Maps is a superior app, I find Waze's traffic and road warnings invaluable, particularly the road hazards. Maybe since they are now one team they can incorporate this feature.

How do I get the outside air temperature to display, like it used to? I have a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado with 8" screen and the OEM displays outside air temp, when I don't use Android Auto.
That's a good question. I also noticed that change. In most cars you can still find temp in the gauge cluster so I wonder if they got rid of it?

I have version 8.8 but don't see a way to update it to 8.9 and I've tried uninstalling but still just 8.8 version. I'm I missing something? I'm using Samsung S22 ultra

I noticed similar 'lag' like yours when scrolling thru android auto list of apps in there, was it due to wireless transmission?
I think they designed it to only scroll a page at a time instead of row by row for safety reasons

I hope Genesis will now update their infotainment system to allow Coolwalk to use the whole screen. Genesis has an even wider screen than the BMW here and it uses that last 1/4 of it to display Genesis widgets. We need a way to remove that to get to full screen.
U might want to check if you need to update the car head unit firmware, I did on my KIA and full screen enabled.

Does the full screen also work for the hyundai i30 fastback 2022 (facelift version with the bigger screen)?
Some Hyundai and Kia models may need an update to make full screen work. Check online or with your local dealership for specific model details

does this update support wireless AA for Elantra with on board navigation?
Hyundai hasn't added that functionality to the Elantra yet
I just got a 2023 Accord Touring. How do I figure out what version of Android Auto I have? If it’s not the latest, how do I initiate the latest download? Is the software versions different for each auto manufacturer?
Congrats on your new Accord! Android Auto actually has nothing to do with your car. Just update to the latest version of the app on your phone, and you should see the new version on any vehicle you're in 👍
So how do you switch what side the buttons are on? When it first updated maps were on the left and everything else on the right. Now maps and those side buttons are on the right. Now sure what happened. Any advice on how to switch it back?
If you goto the android auto settings on your phone, try switching the drivers side setting to left or right. It might help....
Challenge for me is that i want to hear my USB songs while using Android Auto. Somehow while using Android Auto, i only see Android playlist of my mobile. Any way to access Car usb drive within Android Auto?

In some vehicles, you may have to change the system settings to allow for full screen. Not sure about Mercedes specifically but we had to do that for our Hyundai.

I hate it. I have a 10 inch screen. Non touch, wired on a galaxy 22 ultra. It always says my Google maps isn't working and to retry. Well I click retry and it just doesn't work. Also if I'm listening to music, since I can't use maps, the screen stays small and the rest of my screen is all black. It doesnt open to a full screen. It's trash so far for my car and I spend 15 mins everytime I get in the car just to try and make it work. So disappointed, wish I just had the regular one back. That one never failed to load the maps and I would get full screens.
Is andrioid auto able to use google map when there is no reciption? For example, when I driving into a national park and there is no receiption, is google map still working? If not, is there a way to use the google map when there is no reciption? Please let me know, thank you.
On the Google Maps app on your phone you can download online maps. Then it will continue to work on AA without reception
My Mercedes e class 2019, with the same long screen, cuts 1/3rd of the screen with a fixed android logo.

Mercedes has to update the software to add support for full screen AA. I would suggest making sure you have the latest Mercedes software update because they might have added it. Our Hyundai added it 6 months ago, for example.
This doesn't look like some of the betas that's I've seen online
It's a great design only if you have a large screen like in your car. I have a 2023 volkswagen troc and the screen is 8 inches which doesn't make sense to have split screen, also I didn't like the fact that they removed a dedicated home screen button and often you need to press twice to navigate to the home screen
The round design with apps like Spotify and RUclips music was way cooler than the square shaped buttons in the new update. I feel like they're trying to look like apple car play which is a very ugly interface
