Nick, I am sending you a virtual hug. I have had my Honda Pilot for two years and no one could help me get the Android Auto to work in my vehicle. I watched your video and followed every step just as you showed it. Woohoo I can navigate, listen to music and audio books while all the while getting message notifications and phone calls. I am a happy camper because you took the time to figure it out and then share with us. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I have a 2019 Jeep Compass and an Android Galaxy S6 phone and had no idea this was available for my vehicle........
The manufacturers instruction manual has a chapter on the UCONNECT whatever but it is useless in trying to understand. Your video is brilliant and I have passed it on to a friend who also has a Jeep Compass with no factory installed GPS..............Thanks again! You deserve a promotion..........

Also: On the "Charging Hack" - if you have a newish Samsung Phone, you can use Bixby Routines to set the USB port function. You can change it from "USB Tethering, Transfering Files, Transfer Images, Midi, and CHARGING PHONE ONLY" - That last option can be toggled on or off based on any number of conditions, that you set. Look for Bixby Routines and find a tutorial - For Other Makes, LG, Sony, One Plus, etc., You can use the app "Tasker" for these scripted custom uses. This is where Android Phone users get the power user abilities that Apple doesn't cater to with their tendency to "dumb down" the interface and the underlying OS control.

Hey, Carter, very helpful tutorial! I just purchased a new vehicle & salesman was helping me set up android auto. It wasn't working even after repeated attempts and uninstalling/reinstalling app. Turns out I only had a charging cable with me BUT several times during the tutorial you mention using a USB charging cable. I'm only commenting here in case others have the same issue as I did. I now have ONLY a USB data cable in my vehicle so it's all good!! Again, VERY helpful tutorial!

7:50 If you say "Navigate to" instead of "find" the GPS navigation will automatically start up for the most relevant search result, after a 5 second prompt ( like the prompt for delay ahead, or faster route).

Nicely done you! I can't tell you how much I appreciate not only the information you provided itself, but how well it was presented. I just finished watching a different video for Android Auto, and let me say that your video is head's above and hands down 100 times better the other one. You speak very well. The audio is not rushed and you are easily understood. Your use of singular vs. plural is accurate, and you provide descriptions and details the other video did not. People who don't speak well don't sound as intelligent as those who do which is very important regardless of what others may say. Individuals who speak well are more likely to be hired over someone who doesn't speak accurately or clearly. I found the information I needed as well as additional information that I'm sure will be useful once I pick up my new vehicle.
Thank you for a job well done! Cheers!

Hello Carter, I am an older lady trying to keep up with all the mod cons. I don't yet have a system like you have but looking at getting one not only for safety of using hands free but convenience of not having to pull over to make a call or receive a call as this can be hard to find a safe spot to do so as I don't touch my phone every when driving. For the time being I got a Bluetooth device that I can use for making calls and receiving calls using the stereo CD FM player that is in the car. I don't think this app will work with it but I am going to download it and give it a try. Thank you for this video it is the best I have seen. Oh I can use my spotify app that blew me away. As this was just a cheap device total of $30 AU for the phone holder and the Bluetooth device. Thank you kindly

  • @PeterRevie

Around 5:15 you get into some advice about Autolaunch and Use Bluetooth settings that only apply if you are running Android Auto directly on your phone screen (that's why the section name for the settings is Phone Screen Settings) so if you do NOT need to apply those settings.

Yes. "Extend functions of your vehicle" - I can do the same with a simple BT connection and the Android Auto app running on my phone. I can use the steering wheel control and the onboard audio system and microphones. Why should I buy a Android Auto compatible infotainment system instead of simply using the Bluetooth connection?

Since this was posted, Android Auto has had a ground up redesign (Summer 2019) with a simpler, more logical, and LESS DISTRACTING - anything that reduces your distractions while driving is nothing less than life saving design, which sounds dramatic, and also has the benefit of being true. Touchscreens in general are large, bright interfaces full of interesting items, Unlike molded switches that you can feel for without looking, you must glance at a touch screen to use it, each and every time. They are also bright and reduce your view out the windshield at night. People with poor night vision have issues with slow reaction changes from bright to dark . Remember - All touchscreens can be switched off or greatly dimmed at night.

    • @Carterchevroletok
      @Carterchevroletok  5 лет назад

Great info and yes a nice molded button is always my favorite over touchscreens. I tend to drop by cluster brightness down to the lowest possible at night and it helps to see out the window especially when you have darker window tint like many tend to have here in Oklahoma! Thanks for the post!

Do want to mention that your phone can do all these things without a Andoid Auto stereo. Just Bluetooth to any old radio
And talk to the phone... Thru Bluetooth.
For messages...I use an app called Drive mode.. it can read and reply to incoming messages.
Just wanted to let people know most of these phone commands work without the car..
Just stick the phone in a mount and use it directly, if you don't have a car with Android auto or apple car play.

When parked in my driveway in reach of my house wifi and connected to it, all works well as shown in your video. But out of reach of my home wifi and connected to my Equinox wifi, I get a google message after asking google to "find ..." that "I have an unstable connection." When I turn off the wifi and on mobile data, I get " You have a limited network connection and can only make telephone calls."

Hey thank you for watching the video. As for other alternatives other than your current Onstar wifi and current mobile carrier the only other thing I can think of is a handheld GPS system like a Garmin etc. It does not sound like you are doing anything wrong setup wise so no way to diagnose anything there. Out here in Okarche, Ok we have terrible phone service and at times the Onstar wifi is spotty. Maybe contact Onstar and see if they are having connection issues with other members in your area???

"Pretty simple guys" yet I am on day 3, my 6th video and countless web pages trying to get Android Auto figured out. Feel like an idiot. Or it is just the fact at 47 years old I have finally become "old" and now join the ranks of the "technologically challenged" lol. Day 1 spent in total frustration as I missed the fact the phone must be plugged into the cars USB to use Android Auto.

Can you make an updated video? Which versions where you running for google play and android auto? Cause as of May, 2018 they updated both versions and now I am having issues with my vehicles android auto. I have all the same things clicked on and highlighted. And my vehicle phone projection is set to "enable android auto" and it will not work now when I plug in the USB.

As far as I know, the main upgrade in Android Auto is the ability to now view your entire contact list while at a stop unlike the previous version it was only a simplified version of your phonebook. As far as the new google play update I was not aware of that. I will need to research the differences to see what changes in the steps I would need to touch upon for a new updated how-to video. In the meantime here is a link to Android Auto FAQ's and Troubleshooting: bit.ly/2I7Z4b

Thanks for all the great info! Finally got mine up and running. I do have one question however, is there a way to turn off the "I'm driving right now" car mode? If I'm using my Android phone to text back and forth, it's a huge pain for that to be sent every time I'm texting back and forth.

Open Android Auto app on your phone without it being connected to your car, click the three-line menu on the top left and select Settings. Scroll down to Messaging - Auto Reply and change it there. Hope this helps! If not let me know. Thanks!

Thanks for getting back with me. I tried your suggestion and it was a no go. When I get to the place where you spoke of , it doesn't give me the option of no response. So I tried just deleting it, no go. It defaults back to "I'm driving..." so I left it with just a period. If it helps I have a Moto z3 and it has the Android 8.1.0 version and a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Overland. Thanks for helping!

The release on the play store has issues. I noticed your version vs mine which doesn't work. It did until google started messing with it and add the driving mode which fires it up on your phone when it connects to bluetooth. Why mess with success? But great video.

Hey man good tutorial - thank you as I am a new android auto user.
I have a 2019 ZL1 CAMARO and a S9+ phone. I watched your tutorial to a tee and everything is great and everything works as it should except one thing.
When I downloaded Pandora from play store I would assume it would just come up on my android auto screen when I click the headphones icon at the bottom of my screen when in the car.
However it doesn't show up. Any ideas why?

    • @Carterchevroletok

After connecting my "Mi A2" to my "Peugeot 308"'s car computer, the phone turns off file sharing and the car computer doesn't connect to Android Auto. Bluetooth works fine, I can stream sound from my phone, however, I can't put any applications like Google Maps on my car screen. Another phone, an LG one, shows the error 8 once I try to connect. The country is Estonia.

To be honest not 100% sure the exact reason behind it but I assume it is for a greater degree of integration between Android Auto and your phone
