Your video was just in my suggested playlist, that's so awesome, thanks for the shout out! I'm really glad you liked that pattern, I thought it was so cute that I left it up on the fridge a month after Valentine's day LOL. I certainly think using the ScanNCut and embroidery machine definitely makes any project easier for sure! Many of my viewers do not have those things so I tend to gear the videos so that anyone can make the project, even with just a sewing machine. Your hearts turned out AMAZING ♡♡♡
Hi Lisa!! Oh my gosh! I'm such a fan of yours and you commented! I'm just tickled and you have made my day! lol Thank you!! In our little sewing/crafting world, I love that there are many options to do a project whether using just a sewing machine to complete a project or for lazier people like me, there's a computerized way to do it. :) So many of my followers were unaware that the technology even existed to convert an image to an applique file so I love to share my techno-geek side with folks who are ready to expand their skillset. I can't believe how many have told me they have gone out and purchased the SNC cutting machine and the software to do applique like this. It's crazy! Thank you again for commenting. I love to watch your videos! I learn so much from you!
Just found your video for simply applique lol I was trying to do this yesterday I was getting frustrated lol love your videos I have embrilliance too but wanted to do this with my simply applique lol
So glad I found you I have the brother dream machine 2 I love it :>). Also have scan N cut haven't used it ;>( . I recently bought the simply applique haven't used it :>( now thanks to you I will finally use up a lot of my scraps . The reason I bought the scan n Cut and the simply applique, Thank you so much. I also watch Lisa Capon. I learn so much from her, Now I have found you I am one happy camper. Because you both explain so slowly and clearly. Thanks to both of you.
Hi, I found a dealer that ordered this for me a couple of years ago, and I love it! You are right, there were no you tube videos, so I just figured it out, and it is really so amazing and easy. Thanks for posting these videos!!
Joy, I bet the software you already have has the ability to import .fcm files and/or convert to applique. You probably have hearts in it too from the gazillion of designs that came with it...and a font that works. I'm doing a scrappy border around my panel from a mini-charm pack of 2.5" squares of a Valentine's Day theme.
Thanks for your all the info in your video, I just downloaded today the trial version of Simply Applique and thought some instructions would be good! I had a play but thought a bit more info would come in handy so straight to youTube and there you were, just what I needed so thanks again.
Glad I could help! It takes a bit of getting used to but if you do some simple tests with scraps, you can play with it to get it right. On each test, outside of the design I would write with a pen what my settings were. I think, if you remove the hoop after the placement stitch and iron it all down, you can delete the tack down and go straight to the final stitch. I did a blog post here too with more info. Good luck! powertoolswiththread.com/2018/09/23/automated-machine-embroidered-applique-with-brother-scan-n-cut-simply-applique/
I love your tutorials! I am soooo new to the scan n cut. I have an object that I have scanned into my SDX230D scan n cut. I want to move it to the Canvas Workspace so I can follow this tutorial to turn it into a PES embroidery file. I see on the Canvas Workspace where I can import a FCM file from the scan n cut. My problem is it imports a different file from my scan n cut. How do I pick the file I want it to import? Thanks for your help or pointing me in the right direction.
After you scan in the image, the SNC gives you options to save. Choose the cloud vs. in the machine. That will eliminate a step and save the correct file.
Hi Becky, What is Inset and how did you work out how to change it and to what setting? Also what is offset. This simply Applique looks great. What Scan N Cut model do you have? Think I may have to buy one soon. Xmas is coming.
Hello Loving your videos. They’re so helpful. After watching this particular video I’m wondering if I need to purchase both embrilliance and simply appliqué software to use with my brother snc. Thanks
Hello! That is entirely up to you. They are two separate programs that do separate things. If you enjoy applique quilts, then I think Simply Applique is a must because I don't care for the actual stitching down of the applique on the background fabrics. It really takes the fun out of the process for me, but some people enjoy it. I use Embrilliance for design editing and sending designs wirelessly to my machine. If you already have design editing software or you don't do any design editing, then you really wouldn't need it. But they both are so inexpensive (as far as software goes) that having both gives you the ability to do whatever you want, whenever you want. Embrilliance will do applique, but it does not have the ability to take the .fcm file created by the SNC to convert a paper pattern to applique. If you already have BES4, you do not need Simply Applique since it is a module inside of BES4. Good luck!
Power Tools with Thread thanks for all that info. I have no software. Purchased the xe1 and vq3000 as I thought that would be a better option for me. I also have the scan and cut xd. I don’t want to do any digitising - I want to keep it very simple and love what you did with the candy hearts appliqué wall hanging and was just watching the rhino appliqué video you posted.
Did you make the changes on simply applique after testing the applique on fabric? If so why did you need to make the changes if you used the same size heart cut file?
No changes can be made to the file after it has been cut. All changes should be made in SA first, and then move it to the USB for transferring to the machine.
I really wanted a Dream Machine too but I got this Brother Quattro (the model before the Dream Machine) on Craig's list for just $3,500. It was barely used and I couldn't pass it up.
when saving in the simply applique it comes up with several brother pes v's v5...v7.. v10... which one do we select. what is the difference between them?
Hi Mary! I got it here. You can buy their entire site for $20 and you get a TON of fonts. Many are BX fonts. embroiderysuperdeal.com/shop/embroidery-font-deal-part-ii/
Yes, I frequently create a design in Embrilliance and save it. Then I re-open the design in Simply Applique. That works well to embroider letters or words on an applique like I did here.
This feature (as far as I know) is only found in either BES4 or Simply Applique itself (Simply Applique is a module of BES4). I looked in the PE Design manual and didn't see how to import .fcm files.
@@PowerToolsWithThread there is something for applique and scanNcut ,so I feel it must convert files to sew , but i not used it enough to say , I dont fully understand all it can do.
I have some questions about what sewing/emb machine to get. I have the scan and cut and am fascinated about being able to cut things out and then stitch around them with a machine that already knows the dimensions. Do all emboidery machines do this or just Brother? Are the files proprietary or can I use the files from my Accuquilt to also stitch out on a Brother?
The Simply Applique program I used is designed to be compatible with the Brother ScanNCut and a Brother (or Baby Lock - same company) embroidery machine, although the software will save to any embroidery file format (.jef for a Janome for example). If not Simply Applique, you need special software (i.e. expensive) for it to be able to import an .fcm file and change that file into an applique file. Simply Applique is the least expensive of all the software I've found and it's very happy working with other software to import other files as I showed in the video. I have a Janome 7 needle machine and between the two, I prefer the human interface of the Brother. I've successfully also appliqued layers of applique using this method but for the sake of the video I only did a single applique. In the left panel of the software, you have to put your multiple layers of applique in the correct order with the lowest first and working your way up. It can be time consuming at first, but it gets easier once you get the hang of it. I'll do that all day long vs. stitching it all myself by machine. I'm sorry but I don't know about Accuquilt. The thing about the ScanNCut, is that you can print out any line drawing and scan it in and upload to the cloud. Then download from the cloud in the .fcm format. So if your Accuquilt has images that can be printed or copied for scanning purposes , you should be able to use those too for applique. You just have to be sure that the image you download as an .fcm file is identical to the cut piece and you can edit the image in the cloud to any size you want. I blogged about it so this might help. Thanks for watching! powertoolswiththread.com/2018/09/23/automated-machine-embroidered-applique-with-brother-scan-n-cut-simply-applique/
thank you! I just saw this as all the response notifications are going to a spam folder. I apologize. I ended up buying a Brother embroidery sewing machine of Amazon. It's much cheaper now than when I bought it two years ago. Allbrands. com had it on sale for $249 but that price was lined out so I bet you can get it cheaper than that now. You have to purchase it from a Brother Dealer (vs. a reseller like Amazon) and I think they order it as needed and ship it to you. I've just gotten into the thing after all this time and I'll never make an applique quilt again without it. I've successfully done layers of applique too but just wanted to show the concept on this video. There's very little training out there so it took me awhile to poke around on it to make it work. And the one other video I've seen out on RUclips has a very bad review...but she wasn't using it as intended. Now that I get it, it's very simple. Thanks!
Hi Marian, the box says it can be used with any embroidery machine, and the save options have all machine file types as well. I love applique embroidery but I don't have the patience for all the tracing, cutting, and turns in the stitching process. Simply Applique was such a nice thing to find! Embrilliance Stitch Artist Level 3 exports .fcm as well but that gets pretty pricey unless you only need an upgrade or have it already and didn't realize it. Then you don't have to learn other software if you already use Embrilliance.
I did several tests from my scrap bin and wrote down the stitch settings on each test so I could remember what they were. As soon as I had one I liked, that's what I used.
Wow! The end result is truly professional!!!
