    I want to thank you so much for inviting me here, Lindsay! I was so nervous at first, but once I got to talking "art" with you, it was lots of fun! I love your community here and have learned so much from you. Thank you! 😍

    Thank you for this podcast. It is nice to meet someone new to me. It was nice listening to you talk about Tole painting. Tole painting was popular in the Norwegian community I lived in as a teenager. I have a painting my Aunt gave me years ago. I hope you all are able to keep this art alive. I enjoyed the shop talk also.

    Thank you for this podcast. I plugged myself in while I was cleaning the railing around my decks, a mind-numbing task. The time flew with all this good info and inspiration. Now I have to click on some links to fill out the info I learned. Always fun to hear you, Lindsay, and nice to meet you, Shiela! I have several 'antique' tole painted trays I've acquired over the years. Best regards to you both!

      Thank you so much! I think it has evolved a lot since the beautiful tinware painting. I have some amazing trays painted by a Russian artists that were gifted to me from my friend. They are so pretty! I once took a class with a Russian artist many moons ago. He didn't speak English but had a translator. He taught the traditional strokework style and I loved it. Now it more or less refers to any type of 'decorative painting', I believe. It is lots of fun to do.

      You are very welcome. It really keeps my studio here neat. I know I have photos of it somewhere. I will have to do a tour again soon. I am a stickler for organization. In this world of daily chaos, I think I need to control my little bubble here. And YES on the Pima watercolors! They are sometimes a little harder to wet and activate, but I am happily surprised at how they are holding up to the sunlight. They are quite pretty and a nice place for some to start or try out the medium. Thanks for your kind comment. 😺

    I really enjoyed this podcast. I started my art journey a little over 20 years ago. I leaned to do One Stroke and taught it for several years. Through watching your videos I have become addicted to watercolor and colored pencil.

    Timely video- during my declutter session- came across some 30 decorative painting magazines - every time I pickup a few to “declutter and get rid of” some I instead get sucked into oohing and aahing over those lovely patterns lol
    During a move I donated a large Rubbermaid tote with wood plates and triptychs and boxes etc to a local nursing home
    Now I’m looking for some surface again 🤔 can’t wait to check out some of these websites- I must say I learned all my paint strokes and how to’s during those lessons I took as Lindsay mentioned- I still have - gulp- unfinished projects sitting around that I will now tackle- this was just the gentle nudge I needed 👩‍🎨💕👍thanks

      Thank you so much! I do love it here. I always wanted to 'retire' in Maine. But opportunity arose and I chose to move across the border. It is amazing how similar to Maine the landscape is. I love living by the ocean, too and I am more of a rural girl at heart. Maybe it is because the kids are grown and on their own and I am an 'empty nester.' In any case, it is lovely. Thanks for your kind comment. 😊

      @SheilaLandry I've lived here all my life! I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. It is so nice seeing the ocean every day, I don't take it for granted. And yes, Maine is a lot like NS. The winters suck! Haha But summer is just around the corner. 😀

    As someone who does both Zoom and Teachable, Craftsy, etc. classes, I can say that I prefer the recorded classes that you can return to watch over and over again. It's hard to take in all the info on the first viewing.I like to be able to go back and refresh myself on techniques when needed. Having said that, the advantage to the live Zoom classes is connecting to the other attendees and getting to ask the teacher live questions in the moment and perhaps see something demonstrated and clarified for my benefit. It often happens that someone else had the same question, but didn't feel comfortable asking. So, there are benefits to both, but if I had to choose one, it would be a recorded class that I can watch anytime at will as many times as I want. @SheilaLandry it's nice to put a face to the name that I've seen in the comments over the past few years!

    The easiest way to get around the craft paint problem is to learn color mixing. It's not as hard as it may seem. A lot of good color information online and wikipedia with clear accurate color examples. Personally, I like using the yellow - magenta - cyan 'primary' colors. If you already have acrylics, play with them, mixing and seeing what you get. Keep track of the starting paint colors and notice what your resulting color might compare to pre-mixed colors.

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  Месяц назад +1

      Very true! The tole painting industry relies on the premixed colors to make the projects achievable. It's been that way as long as I've followed it. I think putting color swatches in patterns is a great idea for those who want to save money and mix their own colors tho.

    51:25 so agree! SU has been doing this... they discontinue colors and introduce new ones that are barely different. (I have colors from them going back a decade and have noticed theyve done it with a couple colors.) When ppl see a company do that it makes them feel like the company doesn't have integrity.

      It has been a gripe of mine for the past couple of years, Rachel. I know they are in it for money, but they need to consider their customers and their own future, too.

      I have been using it for maybe 25 years - the magazines needed their drawings in "vector" and I had to learn them. Believe me - I just scrape the tip of the iceburg with that program. But it has helped me in my artwork and creating so much over the years. Thank you for your comment.
