    I am still swimming in tomatoes just like last week but it’s getting less overwhelming. I finished a card project for meals on wheels (105 4th of July cards) and decided to step back from that “responsibility”. It felt nice to get something off my plate. We have a cousin that makes moonshine 😂

    You cracked me up this morning. Your energy was infectious, I am inspired to make a couple if course adjustments now. Watched the Altenew podcast. I was delighted that you restated your belief in using what you have( rotate your favs you probably have similar stamps) and don't buy to just accumulate but be selective . You did speak of the fact that as you do that you end up developing your own style. That hit a note for me because I use stamps from many different sources that I've collected over the years and now enjoy making mixed media or watercolor cards now. I learned that from watching you make cards and they are still cheaper to mail than buying cards at the store. I also thought that you saying I don't need 500 cards ,I don't have that many friends to send them too. So true. I laughed. I send out about 10-15 pieces of happy mail each month. I never know what I'm going to do but my friends appreciate even my bad art when they get some. I hope you find that deeper dive you're looking for right now. I get the greatest pleasure spending time in my art room and being part of the art community since I retired.

    LINDSAY.....You're already a Floral Designer, in painting, and working with real flowers is the same thing.........color, contrast, shape, composition. I'm a retired florist, and when I started watercolor a few years ago, I was intimidated by painting florals..........until I realized I already know how to "arrange" them.

    Hullo Lindsay, I truly enjoyed watching/listening to your AlteNew interview and hearing about your origin story! I left mine too! We live in Northern California just a few hours away from Oregon and there are several different Shakespeare Theaters that have festivals in the different towns in southern Oregon! I have been to the centers of a few towns and they do rent out their venues for other events! I recall going to see Nanci Griffith at The Brit festivals outdoor amphitheater, it was a BLAST! I doubt that the idea of you renting out the outdoor venue for teaching a watercolor class has crossed your mind but if I lived close or was looking to plan a vacation to your side of the states, it would be a “real draw” for many! You can even try a signup for real interest? I believe that you can generate enough interest. I truly believe having your recent art retreat in France had good and bad reasons for people who are interested in going to an event with you as the instructor! I am not likely to travel outside of the US again. I do want to experience Scotland but I am not sure if it can ever happen. A lot has to happen for me to just go overnight to my brothers! Longer trips are simply not in my plans for the foreseeable future.

    • @thefrugalcrafter

      The Shakespeare events take place outside in a park. It's down a big hill and there is no running water (only a porta potty up the hill) it wouldn't be ideal for a class.

    Hi Lindsay! I laughed when I saw the little cup you wanted to put the aloe in. I started out with a small one that grew quite a bit bigger and we named it Sideshow Bob from the Simpsons because it looked like his hair. A few years have gone by and now that little aloe is in 3 5 gallon buckets because I could barely lift it. Just a warning. I loved your Shakespearean anniversary story. That was great! The Altenew interview was really good. I hope you feel some inspiration for some ideas. I've been in a slump, but life has been happening so I know every day will be something different. There's been 2 tornado warnings for the central and southern part of my county this past week. One was about an hour ago, so I'm glad we didn't get anything but rain from that. We had 6 inches in 2 hours a couple days ago. But anyways, everyone is safe as far as I know and that's a blessing. I like your diet plan. Sounds doable. Thanks for another great Sat Chat and have a wonderful week.

    True story, my grandfather was kidnapped by Al Capone for running moonshine in Capone's territory. Apparently he, my grandfather, overstepped his bounds. It was back in the day of prohibition. They came to an understanding and he let my grandfather go (live). My claim to fame. LOL We have bunnies living in our yard. We have a creek at the end of our block and we get all sorts of interesting creatures. Neighbors used to feed the ducks and at one time we had about 40 that would walk down our street from the creek to their house daily. They wouldn't move if you tried to get out of your driveway either. City finally put a stop to the feeding and I guess the ducks relocated as they haven't been around in a few years. You are not the only one who doesn't "do" plants/florals/veggies. Yep if it's outdoors I muddle through but I certainly don't know a thing as my house plants even suffer miserably. I once killed a 3' rubber plant in less than a week. To my defense, we don't have good light in our house. Built in 1890 it has small windows. The only room stuff will grow is the bathroom. Sorry for the novel.

    My old neighbor was very impressed by my tomato growing skills and she asked me why mine turned out to produce so many more tomatos than hers did. I told her to fertilize and she had the same reaction you did 🤣😂 Also pinching off the suckers reallllly helps!

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  11 дней назад +1

      What are the suckers?

    • @jennw6809
      @jennw6809 11 дней назад +1

      @@thefrugalcrafter The suckers are the new growth that comes out right in the middle of a "v" between the stem and branches (or between two branches.) Basically the tomato is trying to take over the world, and it doesn't know the summer will end. So it keeps trying to grow new vining plant, as well as tomatos. If you pinch/prune off the suckers as they emerge, you'll keep its energy focused on producing more tomatos more quickly (which in Maine -- or in Washington state, like I am -- is kind of important! Since we only get limited sun and summer!) I'm sure there must be jillions of YT videos & blogs demonstrating this, so just look one up if you need a visual! (PS some tomato plants don't do this, but most do, especially cherry tomatos.)

    I’m old enough to be your mother, so that may be the difference or because I took AT English in high school, but we read several Shakespeare pieces over my four years in high school. I’m also from the south so that may have been a reason for different curriculums. I also read some Shakespeare in college, but not as much as high school. As an elementary school major we had to do a little of everything without huge concentrations on anything.

    Awe loved the 52 color set because the pastels were professional level pastels with cadmium pigments and everything.... i have frequent gone back and forth between the 2 sets and the quality of that 52 set was so much better than pretty excellent. My PE 36ct. The browns in it keep being so weird, idk how to describe it, i rewet it and the color stays in little balls/rocks and wont mix or spread, they are un usable. The browns were 1000x better in 52 set, yes their is alot of colors, but you basically get a professional Paint, Professional Brush, and pigment liner, and decent starter paper, i paid 25 granted but as time has gone on im more convinced that it was the perfect beginner pallet, idk how much i ended up spending so much on brushes, that 10 extra dollars is not a big deal if you know you have a Great brush! I hope they don't get rid of any of the non pastels. Lol anyway 🤣 i guess it captured my heart the way meilang captured yours

    Laughing at your vegetarians live longer comment. My dad drank when and what he wanted ( including moonshine) ate every meal with dessert and salad and meat, smoked a pipe, then cigars (ugh), and lived to 101. On the flip side, he ate oatmeal (loaded with maple syrup and/or fruit every day), was physically active into his 80's, delved into every creative art including papermaking, colored pencil, fish-printing, wood and gem carving, print making and more. His motto was "Experiment!!".
    In defense of healthy eating, he did sometimes eat ocean-caught fish, and drank iced tea always at lunch & dinner. In his 90's doctors would always comment on his cholesterol panel being great!!
    I think much of his longevity was due to fewer chemicals (1920s thru 60s) and good genes. And almost never going to a doctor. And there you have it.😊

    Now off to take start another session of the colored pencil class. I’m very slow at it - recovering from back surgery and can’t sit long but am enjoying what I’ve done so far. Just did a Blick order for paper and am excited to start the projects!

    Hi Lindsay. Community is so important. I struggle to keep one going at my age, 81 tomorrow..how is that possible, a lot of my friends have moved away. But I do have a few here and I try to make time to spend with them but it’s sometimes difficult to coordinate. I’m more of a kind of open up the door and go out kind of person. But some of these people have to schedule everything. I am not really buying any art supplies at the moment, using what I have. However, if I run out of a favorite tube of paint, I’m definitely going to buy a new one. I missed your live event yesterday since I was out with grandchildren. Signed up for the Michaels class which I’ll miss because I’ll be away on vacation. I do like when you do reviews of products. It’s always interesting to see what’s going on. But you are right when you say, you probably have some thing to use already. Anyway, I’ve never tasted moonshine. It sounds kind of interesting. Maybe I’ll put it on my bucket list! Have a great week.

    Your painted ceramics reminded me to ask you (or the community here): I went to one of those sip and paint ceramics places with a girlfriend, but we had limited time, so I got a box and painted it all black, then they glazed and fired it. I would like to paint a pattern over this. I was curious if that's even possible without sanding / ruining the finish. I have paint pens, lots of acrylics. I kind of wanted to paint a pattern on it to have it look sort of like a black lacquer box... but maybe I shouldn't mess with it and just enjoy my little shiny black box. 🤔

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  11 дней назад +1

      You can, the product I would recommend over glazed ceramics to match the gloss and durability would be Folk Art Enamels. You have to paint them on with a brush, cure 24-48 hours then bake them in your oven for 30 minutes at 350. Or you can air cure for 21 days. That will give you a glossy durable option. I think you can get glossy enamel pens for glazed ceramic but make sure they are opaque. Gloss and opaque are hard to get in a pe. The ohuhu pens won't be as glossy as your box and you can scratch the finish unless you want to use a spray glaze like krylon triple thick but I'm not sure it would be as durable as folk art enamel.

    Moonshine? I think it's "fun" when people make their own booze 🥃, and I had a taste of some at a party a few years back myself. This was in W.Virginia, but most people were from Va & Md. The guy who made it was a bit shy about even bringing it out because of the laws about making your own hard stuff. I guess the laws against it are about selling it...and he didn't. 🤩

    thank you Lindsay, i also ask people i meet what their hobby is, because i love art so much, i think everybody should have a hobby. Also i do art youtube, it is actually my hobby. Something to keep me focus from my very serious, exciting and interesting nursing job. the youtube part of it is actually me teaching myself art and also to have some kind of documentation of my art journey. I have been reading Gurney's color and light and it have me excited about trying different palettes. Have you ever read his book? i found it as an easy read. Not much else going on for me this week. I did do four prompts in four days challenge just something for myself. But i do found when i do an art for myself i want to share it on my channel, where do i divide the artist from the art youtuber? Have you ever have that complexity? thank you so much stay safe and bless

    • @thefrugalcrafter
      @thefrugalcrafter  13 дней назад +1

      I have that book, it's great! I guess I divide it weather I am painting outside or inside because I don't want to bother with setting up a camera if I am painting on my deck or at the coast lol. It's hard though, I make my living teaching art online and it can feel wasteful not to film everything but I need a break from filming sometimes and I am less likely to take risks if I need the art to turn out well.

    You are right about asking and listening, being genuinely interested. So many conversations turn out to be just two alternating monologues 😮. My "moonshine" is traveling and watercolour painting. I get so excited when I talk about any of those things. I really enjoyed your interview with Altenew. You were spontaneous and fun, and gave very meaningful advice. I am still hanging on to my "shopping from my shelves" decision, but definitely lurking for things I like for black Friday or any other amazing sale (Prime Days?) I loved the iris you painted as well. I will try that in a blue version. On 🇮🇹 Italy and Shakespeare. I went to Verona a couple of times. They have created Juliet's balcony, Romeo and Juliet's tomb etc. Obviously all fiction but tourists forget or don't know and queue to buy tickets to see the locations. There is even a volunteer group of ladies s who answer letters 💌 that star crossed lovers write to Juliet asking for ❤ advice. Hats off to the Verona Tourism marketing office, though.😂 So lovely that you and Jason have an anniversary ritual - it's always good to do food n things together that turn into traditions.
