I remember it as well, but it was really good to take to a college dorm, so if your hem came loose or a seam in your pants, you could sew it back faster and better than by hand sewing. It wasn't designed to replace my mother's Brother Sewing Machine.

I am SHOCKED with how professionally this item turned out using this gizmo ! Plus, it wasn't that long ago that Rachel was afraid to even use her sewing machine. Vast improvement!
The old singer machines from the 1890s were similar chain stitch machines. The victorians and edwardians made EVERYTHING on them. 😁 to finish the row because there's no backstitch, you have to physically tie the loose ends into a knot, otherwise its easy to unravel. You did amazing 😊
I hand sew and I learned how to hand sew the chain stitch which is remarkably easy to hand sew and comes out exactly like the stitch on the 1970s sewing machine. I'll do my best to explain how to hand sew the chain stitch. To begin you start off with a back stitch to secure the thread/seam. Next you form a loop and do a base stitch through the loop and repeat until the end of the seam and proceed ending with a back stitch. I absolutely adore the chain stitch once I learned how to, it makes hand sewing go faster and you end up with a strong seam. That being said there is another hand sewing stitch I adore which is sewn by creating and X and the back looks like it was back stitched twice, this stitch is a bit more complex to explain in written form.
I imagine that contraption Rachel got was a Christmas gift some sewing person got from a family member who didn't knew any better. I can’t believe it’s been FIVE YEARS since you went full time! You’re still one of my favorite RUclipsrs. Your videos always brighten my day and remind me that I can try things without being perfect at it immediately.
Rachel, you've inspired me so much over the past 5 years that I got a normal sewing machine for Christmas and will be attempting garment construction for the first time!
I would love to see a video where she revisits things to either revamp or fully finish them like if she ran out of time or they didn’t turn out quite right the first time she did them.
This looks like a chain stitch machine (as you noted) and for me the BIG advantage of these is that you can pick out one end and unravel the entire thing instantly, which means it's perfect for basting. Snip snap, the seam needs to be moved over 1/4", so you restitch it, and zzzzipp, out comes the basting line. It can be really helpful.
I would personally LOVE to see more videos where you just make clothes you'll actually wear! They're my favorite videos from you and I find them the most inspiring, because that's what I'd like to be able to do myself! They never get repetitive to me because watching you use thrifted fabrics, swap around pattern pieces and problem solve as you go teaches me so much more about sewing than watching a standard tutorial because my brain learns by trial and error and it simply rejects basic instructions 😂 Anyway I say go for it and experiment with your wardrobe by making every day pieces you think you might like to wear because selfishly I would just really enjoy watching you do that and I'd probably learn a lot from whatever unintentional chaos arises from that 😂 I do like big project videos and I mean maybe one day I'll finally make my own cosplay or Halloween costume the way my mom used to do for me but for now at least I find much more enjoyment watching and learning from people making things they can wear every day rather than something that doesn't really feel worth the effort for how little you get to wear it 😅
the way that you dress has inspired the way I have started to dress, and I couldn't be happier. I started making my own clothes a few years ago because of you, and now I'm crocheting and knitting all of my friends gifts. thank you for doing what you do!! :)
Hey Rachel! I remember those things from the 70s. They were advertised as being a convenient way to hem pants and skirts while you were still wearing them, or hem up some curtains without taking them off the rod. How simple! 😊 Happy New Year!❤🎉
I adore long form content, and while I obvs tumble down the rabbit hole of brainnumbing shorts/reels, I way prefer the beauty of a well-edited, one-sided chat to camera (us) style video. It will always be the superior means of content consumption imo 😊 Happy 2024 Rachel and everyone! ❤🎉
I have been watching all of your videos from years back in no particular order, and I have to say that I'm in love with the way your mind works. I laugh so hard whenever I watch your videos. Absolute adoration.
All of the reasons I love your channel contained in one video: fabric hoarding, sloucher3 with *eclectic* fashion tastes that utters stange asides and obscure references while also throwing F-bombs. You are part of my tribe!
This came out so well! You made that little contraption work for you, even if it's only chain stitches, the idea to double up was a good one. I know others have said it, but you've improved so much!! I've been watching since the Pinup Companion and I'm just so happy to see how far you've come and watch everything you produce. Here's to many more years of experiments, dad jokes, and adorable clothes and costumes 💐🥂🎉 Also thank you so much for continuing to prioritise long form content. I don't do tiktok or shorts or reels or any of it and I don't think the format does your style justice. You're the cosy corner of the net that is worth savouring every moment of!
I've been watching since the days (the years) of the Pinup Companion toooouuuuu! 💖🕯️🔔⛲🎉 I came scrolling for to find your comment about it, thanks. I rarely if ever comment myself, yet I love Rachel's videos with my whole heart. I wish I felt like traveling to Florida so I could meet her in person! alas I'm just too happy a homebody in Maine, most of the time, and her longer form content hits the spot here in my house in a most appreciated way.🎼🐦💖
@@ultimateskillchain I wish you could too! The sure-footed thoughtful and kind way you commented to her speaks volumes about you as a person, as one I bet she'd love to meet! Maybe another place and time she'll do one much, much closer to your home. Australia is SO big I understand, yet wouldn't it be wonderful if she travels there for some event some sweet day!
It's still around. They sell them in walmart. Everyone I know who's actually used one says you're better off hand stitching anything small or awkward enough to justify trying to use it on lol
@@justme-qd6qb Eeeh, as someone with chronic pain in my wrist those little things are actually quite useful. I can't hold a thin needle for that long without regretting it the next day. The issue is to know to later close the stitch with a needle and not everyone bothers to learn that or teach it. But it works fine once you know what you are doing.
I remember the commercial for this thing. My great-aunt (who taught me to sew,) bought this for herself to use on quick repairs so she wouldn't have to haul out her 1956 Singer 403a. As you've noticed, it's a chain-stitch machine. It was mostly useful for stitching fallen hems while wearing the skirt, or repairing hems on curtains without having to take them down. It was never designed to make clothing on. Like the previous owner, my aunt used it a few times and banished it to the attic, never to be seen again. I like to think that you are using hers. She'd find you completely adorable.
I’d seen video lately (from whom, I can’t recall, but it might have been Abby Cox) about sewing machine history. The chain-stitch machine, which you have, was invented before the upper thread & bobbin machine; and if you think about it, that’s why it really can’t backstitch, and pulls out so easily. I admire your perseverance though!
I can't belive you've been doing this full time for 5 years! It doesn't seem that long ago when you made the announcement, and I'm so glad you did! You're the favorite RUclipsr of my entire family! The blouse turned out adorable and look at you using a button hole maker. So impressive! ❤❤
The end result regardless of the machines finicky and ornery behavior, is so absolutely, absurdly, adorable. And that’s my quota of adjectives for the day.
“If yeh had the chance to ride a magic skewl bus wud yeh?” Only 6 days in to the new year and she’s already coming out with new quotes that need to be immortalized on a piece of clothing 😂
I really love this video. I don't know why, but it just feels calmer and cozier. Reminds me of when I found her videos so many years ago. In fact, I was surprised that it has already been 5 years since she went full-time. It feels like much less time has passed since she announced it, and I cheered, because I knew we were going to get a lot of good things in the future. In a way it feels like time has passed far too quickly, but at the same time I feel she has always been a part of my life. This was exactly what I needed to get started this year. And even though she has already been here on RUclips for many years. I sincerely hope she continues for many more years to come. The internet needs this kind-hearted floor troll to spread her knowledge.
I literally laughed so hard and loud after reading this comment that I woke up my dog from a dead sleep where he was very actively dreaming, running, playing, and barking during. And then got the most deadpan stare of death along with the cold shoulder because he was clearly enjoying that dream so much he didn’t want to wake up so he left the room after glaring at me like I told him he was adopted. Basically just letting you know I agree and love your comment. 😂
Oh lordy. I have steered so many away from the "I'll just get myself a cheap little hand-held sewing machine". So not worth it. You've done so much better than anyone I have known. Can't believe it's been more than five years since I started watching your content! Thanks for the inspiration!!!
Ooooo! Excited to see you using the Folkwear dirndle pattern. My daughter and I just had mine out of the filing cabinet plotting possible projects. I bought it in 1979 and still have not used it, LOL!
At the start of the video, I was trying to work out how long I'd been watching your content for, as I think I joined fairly near the beginning. I remember when you went full time and it's so exciting to see you still killing it five years later! Go Rachel!
SO! HECKIN'! CUTE!!! Love the pinstripey fabric, love the sweetheart neckline, love the sleeves, love the buttons. I wanna make one now! (Well, I would like for an appropriately sized one to appear in my closet, but, ya know.) Happy New Year!
Super cute top! I remember a hand held sewing machine. The body looked like an electric knife. Big nope! I was gifted a Bedazzler, took it out of the box, looked at it, & back in the box it went. I'm sure my grandkids will be like you with it. lol
Man, I remember those! Everyone wanted to bedazzle everything jean in the 90’s. I remember begging my mom to purchase one for my sister and I to “make stuff to sell,” you know when you’re a kid and think you’re going to get into something everyone wants or likes and then make the big bucks making and selling items just because they were bedazzled. It was back when all we wore was jean, oversized tshirts and bucket hats. It wasn’t truly, but it was a classic look for late 90’s early 2000’s.
As someone who grew up in the 70’s, these things were meant for quick hemming and the like. Saw them advertised a lot on rotation on television. A K-Tel presents thing.
Rachel, I love your work. Congrats on 5 years of full-time Youtubing. Also please never be afraid of “simple” videos. This blouse video made me as happy as any of your big projects.
Ive been watching you since the strawberry dress you turned Halloween! You're the only youtuber i actually keep up with. Thank you for finding your cozy little spot in the universe. I'll always appreciate the way you choose to evolve.
My favorite videos are ones where you make something you'll actually wear on a regular basis, since that's the kind of sewing i try to do. And I really, just enjoy having someone to sew along with me!
The button spacing you wanted was 1 13/16! I’m a bra technical designer and all our grading and sample measuring is in 16ths 😅 makes me wish we used metric!
Mum used to take long rectangle pieces of cardboard ( 12 or 14 inches by 2.5 or 3 feet) and wrap the fabric around those, then stack it in the cupboard for organizing. She'd go a step further and organize them in a color scheme.
You are amazing! My kids heard me completely losing it laughing and when I told them ( they are 20 and 21) that you were using a sewing machine I used to own and it was a hand held sort of machine……they gave me that look like …. Are you ok? Best video ever!
This sewing gadget reminded me of the toy sewing machine I got for Christmas when I was 7, it broke fast. Luckily my mom showed me how to use the really nice sewing machine when I was 10 , the Necchi. Wow! That was a sewing machine for the Gods! Eventually this machine broke too, we got it repaired but it never performed as before, my mom had used too many thick fabrics. She sewed coats, ski-doo suits, etc...
at the beginning of the video, I was thinking about how you started to really learn how to sew on this channel. then you said its been FIVE YEARS of full time content creation??? As someone who's been here all those years, this video was so wonderful. A great way to start the year and I can't wait to see whats next (per usual)
It’s so weird watching this while also getting caught up on ALL of your past videos. I haven’t made it to the part yet where you start doing RUclips full time. So happy you’re celebrating 5 years as a full time RUclipsr! Definitely going to be joining your patreon family!
Peasently surprised 😂 you always make me laugh. Ive been watching you from before you were full time! I love to see how youve evolved and how your projects have become better ❤. You are braver than me using that tiny machine !
I remember watching you for quite a while when you decided to go full time. I remember how nervous you were, but how much faith we all had in your capabilities to captivate an audience even bigger than you could have dreamt from back then. And, as a now patron and happy viewer, I think you did just that. Good luck in the new year Rachel!
Happy New Year Rachel!! I love the top, especially how the stripes on the darts match up, it looks so satisfying! The machine... less so 😅 When sewing with it, it sounded like one of those mechanical puppy toys you'd get from a flea market that waddle forward and do flips while yapping!
Happy New Year Rachel! I can't believe that it has been five years since you went full time, ah yes I remember it well. Congratulations, and keep us laughing!
I remember the portable sewing machine being advertised on TV and magazines back in the mid 70's. My step grandmother had one. I tried it and found it hard to use and gave up. BTW, the first Brother sewing machines didn't have a reverse button. I was told by a salesman (man) who told me when using it to turn the fabric around. Huh? No.
I was taught the trick about backstitching by putting the needle down and turning the fabric around and doing a few stitches in fashion school! Works great on industrials with no backstitch and on fabrics that can get sucked down into the throat plate 😅
I converted a 1951 Singer 99K ( hard rubbish find!) to a hand crank. There is no reverse function on this machine, so I either leave the needle in & turn the fabric around, or leave long threads & knot them or stitch them back in by hand.
I personally love this shirt & admire your effort SO MUCH! I remember having a "kids" sewing machine back in the 70's and it was about the same. Pretty much useless, but it was fun! I just had to rewatch this video because, as much joy as I had to see it was out, I was in a bad place mentally last week, but you helped bring me out of it. Now I have to endure another 11 days before the next release. Keep doing what you do! You inspire & bring so much joy to soooo many!!!
I love it when you make things that you’re going to wear day to day. Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy the costume videos but something about you making things that you will wear a lot makes me want to get my sewing machine out again.
As much fun as the elaborate ones are, the simple garments are also great- I enjoy the more relaxed vibes! I feel like there is more room for *aesthetic* b roll and "dad jokes", which are a big part of the enjoyment of the videos, in my opinion.
A few years ago I was at a thrift store and saw a handheld portable sewing machine. I was tempted but my dad said no. Thank you for making this and letting us live through you. You are a kindred spirit.💚
I love that you tried to use the portable to do the whole project. In truth those were made for on the spot sewing emergencies. I had one of those that I used at the Pinup pageants that I participated in up until a few years ago when it finally died. I want to get my hands on another one so I can help any of the ladies outfits that need a last minute adjustment before going onstage for their presentation in the pageants. I love your videos and you are GORGEOUS!
@abbycap100 try continental knitting when you do, instead of the flick method. I learned crochet first myself, and you hold the yarn the same way most crocheters hold the yarn. It worked for me, might work for you.
I remember when these came out. Handheld hemmers they were referred as. Mostly for hemming skirts and pants quickly so you didnt have to start up your sewing machine. I found a used one too about a few years ago. Got it for nostalgia. Havent used it yet. And here you created a top with one!! Great job!!
Either your regular machine is really quiet or there's possibly something wrong with your singer sew quick. I have 2 of them and neither of them are super loud. They don't eat through batteries either but I use rechargeable batteries with them so maybe that's why they last longer? 🤷🏼♀️
@katschulte6851 It was second hand and there were issues with it. I mean the sound of the one in the video though. That is loud to me. My sewing machine tends to be a lot quieter unless it's really pedal to the floor. If it's pedal to the floor then it sounds like an engine taking off.
If it had a backstitch button and the capability to sew through slightly thicker fabrics, it would have been a great invention. Now I am curious if the ones they make these days are any better :) great video, beautiful garment ❤we had fun like always :D
I remember the commercials showing someone sewing drapes as they hung, and wanted one. At the time, I called the post office to find out what the shipping would be and the postmaster there talked me out of ordering one, saying they were just a scam and didn't work. Thanks for showing me what i would have been in for at the time.
It looks super cute! I've always seen those portable sewing machines and wondered if they were worth it. Also the need to make everything because the clothing item you want either doesn't exist or is otherwise inaccessible is so relatable. I want to make more cute comfy clothing this year.
Rachel, I don't usually comment on videos, but I wanted to say that your videos bring so much light into my day. Thank you for all of the joyful energy you bring just by being you!
I have no idea if anyone commented this but there is a chance the needle on the machine needs to be changed. That might help its capability to sew through thicker layers.

Also commenting to bump!! I'd love to see this
I think it’s a good idea (especially if she’s really pooped for a video) but I am a lil worried that the algorithm would not be kind 😢
Oooooh, this sounds SO useful. I want one, hahaha
It also means that if you break a thread, your clothes fall off?
@@birdyfeederz7940 the point of basting is that it's a temporary seam, so you want it to be easy to unravel.
@@adymlv but in this case, she made a whole dress with it 😰
@@birdyfeederz7940 yeah, but you replied to my comment about it being useful for basting.
I would personally LOVE to see more videos where you just make clothes you'll actually wear! They're my favorite videos from you and I find them the most inspiring, because that's what I'd like to be able to do myself!
They never get repetitive to me because watching you use thrifted fabrics, swap around pattern pieces and problem solve as you go teaches me so much more about sewing than watching a standard tutorial because my brain learns by trial and error and it simply rejects basic instructions 😂
Anyway I say go for it and experiment with your wardrobe by making every day pieces you think you might like to wear because selfishly I would just really enjoy watching you do that and I'd probably learn a lot from whatever unintentional chaos arises from that 😂
I do like big project videos and I mean maybe one day I'll finally make my own cosplay or Halloween costume the way my mom used to do for me but for now at least I find much more enjoyment watching and learning from people making things they can wear every day rather than something that doesn't really feel worth the effort for how little you get to wear it 😅
Seconded, seconded like crazy!
the way that you dress has inspired the way I have started to dress, and I couldn't be happier.
How simple! 😊
Happy New Year!❤🎉
"Now kiss." I laughed loud enough to wake my cat from a sound sleep and now she's yelling at me. I hope you're happy, Rachel. 😂
Yeah your cat has to catch up on her 65 naps in a day schedule.
I adore long form content, and while I obvs tumble down the rabbit hole of brainnumbing shorts/reels, I way prefer the beauty of a well-edited, one-sided chat to camera (us) style video. It will always be the superior means of content consumption imo 😊
Happy 2024 Rachel and everyone! ❤🎉
I never get tired of the last year jokes
My son, the comedian of the family, used to say, "I'm going to hold my breath until next year!"
The crafteries of the trolls are littered with material
This came out so well! You made that little contraption work for you, even if it's only chain stitches, the idea to double up was a good one. I know others have said it, but you've improved so much!! I've been watching since the Pinup Companion and I'm just so happy to see how far you've come and watch everything you produce.
Here's to many more years of experiments, dad jokes, and adorable clothes and costumes 💐🥂🎉
Also thank you so much for continuing to prioritise long form content. I don't do tiktok or shorts or reels or any of it and I don't think the format does your style justice. You're the cosy corner of the net that is worth savouring every moment of!
I've been watching since the days (the years) of the Pinup Companion toooouuuuu!

I came scrolling for to find your comment about it, thanks. I rarely if ever comment myself, yet I love Rachel's videos with my whole heart. I wish I felt like traveling to Florida so I could meet her in person! alas I'm just too happy a homebody in Maine, most of the time, and her longer form content hits the spot here in my house in a most appreciated way.🎼🐦💖
@@dredre1696 I'm in Australia and I still wish I could come up there to meet her!
I remember a handheld machine about the size of a stapler which was advertised in the 90s as a way to easily and quickly hem things.
OMG, I REMEMBER THAT!!!!!! You were supposed to be able to repair a fallen jeans hem on the fly!
It's still around. They sell them in walmart. Everyone I know who's actually used one says you're better off hand stitching anything small or awkward enough to justify trying to use it on lol
Yes I got one. But smaller than hers in the '80s at a Woolworths store
@valeriekhall thanks for that info, every time I see one I'm tempted to buy it but with this info I'll refrain lol
Bernadette Banner has an early Victorian chain stitch sewing machine .
It was Abby Cox. I just watched that one a few days ago. Hilarious & informative, as always!
@@terriashby5752 thanks, that was my other guess, but it was BOTH of them!
I got a small portable sewing machine like this in the '80s but mine came with a bobbin. It only had a chain stitch and didn't really reverse.
Veritasium also did a video on the mechanics of the different evolutions of sewing machines. "The Surprising Genius of Sewing Machines" is the title.
I can't belive you've been doing this full time for 5 years! It doesn't seem that long ago when you made the announcement, and I'm so glad you did! You're the favorite RUclipsr of my entire family! The blouse turned out adorable and look at you using a button hole maker. So impressive! ❤❤
I adore sewing while watching Rachel sew ♡ so comforting!
The end result regardless of the machines finicky and ornery behavior, is so absolutely, absurdly, adorable. And that’s my quota of adjectives for the day.
RUclips recommended one of your videos a couple of weeks ago and since then I’ve been binge watching your channel…NEW FAVORITE!!!

Ooh! Rachel and a weird old gadget??? Yessss!
I heard you like sewing machines and construction so I made your machine into a power tool 😂
It has the exact same construction as my Dad's old carving knife 😂
I literally laughed so hard and loud after reading this comment that I woke up my dog from a dead sleep where he was very actively dreaming, running, playing, and barking during. And then got the most deadpan stare of death along with the cold shoulder because he was clearly enjoying that dream so much he didn’t want to wake up so he left the room after glaring at me like I told him he was adopted.
Basically just letting you know I agree and love your comment. 😂
Google makita sewing machine and you will find an offbrand one that fits its battery. Who knew!
Rachel saying she wants to apologize on behalf of all Scottish people instead of _to_ all Scottish people 😂❤ precious
I'm so excited to see what Rachel gets up to this year!!!
I have a smaller modern version of this and I use it to make curtains. I actually really love it and it makes it incredibly easier to do.
Would look great with wide leg tweed trousers/secret trousers and high brown boots. The fabric works. Love it especially the swooshy sleeves.
I just found your channel in 2023. Ive been binge watching since December. Youre so fun and awesome to watch ❤
It’s amazing to see your sewing skills grow over time! Gives me hope that one day I will also be able to make clothes!!!
You can do it if you try!

She mentioned that it wasn't very good for hemming though :/
Omg hi! Enjoying watching this while crocheting and having my tea x
Me too!
Rachel, I love your work. Congrats on 5 years of full-time Youtubing.
Also please never be afraid of “simple” videos. This blouse video made me as happy as any of your big projects.
5 years....already?
It feels much shorter than that since I watched your first video. Happy New Year 🎉🤗💚
Ive been watching you since the strawberry dress you turned Halloween! You're the only youtuber i actually keep up with. Thank you for finding your cozy little spot in the universe. I'll always appreciate the way you choose to evolve.
I'm glad I'm not the only dork that has been using that opening joke for the past week!
I love your big projects but watching you make things like this motivates me to get up and sew something cute!
Mum used to take long rectangle pieces of cardboard ( 12 or 14 inches by 2.5 or 3 feet) and wrap the fabric around those, then stack it in the cupboard for organizing. She'd go a step further and organize them in a color scheme.
Comic book boards. Acid free heavyweight paper. Takes up way less room than cardboard & wont hurt fabric to stay there for ages.
I would totally watch a Maksy organise my sewing closet with me video.
This blouse looks so stinking cute! Just a very Rachel look. Glad you are excited to get back to work. ❤️
Would love to see a week of your outfits and the vibes you create! ☺️
I'm so glad that you're enjoying this as your career. I love starting my weekend mornings with a warm mug of tea and your latest video :)
That's what that sound reminded me of! I knew it was something toy-like but couldn't think exactly what.
We used to have one of those flippy dog toys. Freaked out real dogs. My baby sis loved it.
"A mystery grab-bag of discarded aesthetics" finally someone has described my style! Right there with ya Rachel!
Happy New Year Rachel! I can't believe that it has been five years since you went full time, ah yes I remember it well. Congratulations, and keep us laughing!
Off-screen Scrounging! I spit out my coffee I chuckled so hard!!!!
That top came out looking good. Glad your fur babies, and hubby were included in the vlog.
I'm always impressed by "I'm going to cut up these curtains" turning into a pretty outfit
As much fun as the elaborate ones are, the simple garments are also great- I enjoy the more relaxed vibes! I feel like there is more room for *aesthetic* b roll and "dad jokes", which are a big part of the enjoyment of the videos, in my opinion.
The lil machine looks like it would be handy if you needed to make quick mends at the theater or at a wedding. The top is adorbs though!
A few years ago I was at a thrift store and saw a handheld portable sewing machine. I was tempted but my dad said no. Thank you for making this and letting us live through you. You are a kindred spirit.💚
despite the limitations of the little machine, the shirt turned out SO CUTE! 🥰 Happy New Year Rachel, can’t wait to see what you make this year!
Anyone else remember when Rachel first learned how to sew? I love how quickly she throws things together now.
🌹Happiest New Year Rachel, Nick, Frodo and Binx💚🤗
I love that you tried to use the portable to do the whole project. In truth those were made for on the spot sewing emergencies. I had one of those that I used at the Pinup pageants that I participated in up until a few years ago when it finally died. I want to get my hands on another one so I can help any of the ladies outfits that need a last minute adjustment before going onstage for their presentation in the pageants. I love your videos and you are GORGEOUS!
Ooo, can’t wait to watch this while I continue to spend hours on end crocheting. ❤ 😊
I'm knitting myself.
@@JennieOkami I have never tried knitting before, I definitely need to try it though.
@abbycap100 try continental knitting when you do, instead of the flick method. I learned crochet first myself, and you hold the yarn the same way most crocheters hold the yarn. It worked for me, might work for you.
@@JennieOkamiOh! Okay, I’ll try to do that! Thanks. (:
I remember when these came out. Handheld hemmers they were referred as. Mostly for hemming skirts and pants quickly so you didnt have to start up your sewing machine. I found a used one too about a few years ago. Got it for nostalgia. Havent used it yet.
And here you created a top with one!! Great job!!
Singer made their own version. It eats batteries. It's actually louder than my big machine!😅
Your energy makes simple stuff fun. 🎉
If it had a backstitch button and the capability to sew through slightly thicker fabrics, it would have been a great invention. Now I am curious if the ones they make these days are any better :) great video, beautiful garment ❤we had fun like always :D
Spoiler : they are not 😆
I remember the commercials showing someone sewing drapes as they hung, and wanted one. At the time, I called the post office to find out what the shipping would be and the postmaster there talked me out of ordering one, saying they were just a scam and didn't work. Thanks for showing me what i would have been in for at the time.
Fabulous video once again❤
It looks super cute! I've always seen those portable sewing machines and wondered if they were worth it. Also the need to make everything because the clothing item you want either doesn't exist or is otherwise inaccessible is so relatable. I want to make more cute comfy clothing this year.
You are such a treat, Rachel! Happy New Year 🎉
Rachel, I don't usually comment on videos, but I wanted to say that your videos bring so much light into my day. Thank you for all of the joyful energy you bring just by being you!
I have no idea if anyone commented this but there is a chance the needle on the machine needs to be changed. That might help its capability to sew through thicker layers.
The moment Rachel used the button hole function on the machine was just MAGICAL for me!!! Embrace the technology!!
