Not sure if it was intentional or not, but bathtime Rachel with the bubble fascinator was giving me Yvette from Clue vibes. And I'm here for it. 1+2+2+1 = 6, which is the number of letters in Rachel.
I love the idea that someday, years and years and years from now, someone's going to stop by the estate sale at the Maksy estate and decide this is a perfect lamp for their living room, and they'll have no idea that they're adopting a tiny, bronze version of *you* into their home.
I imagine it will appear on whatever version of Antiques Roadshow the future holds & have to laugh at what the experts will have to say about the provenance of the piece 😂

Some (hopefully helpful) advice for the next time you work for epoxy sculpt: I work in layers when I'm working with it! So I'll make something, wait for it to harden up and then sculpt on top of that! BONUS! Waiting a bit for epoxy sculpt to harden up (but not COMPLETELY dry and hardened!) You can do more detailed sculpting! So if you ever sculpt a teeny tiny face ever again, make the base of the head, wait for that to harden, and then add the facial features so you don't end up smooshing it! THAT ALL BEING SAID: this turned out SO CUTE and now you got me wanting to sculpt tiny art nouveau women 😂

As a fellow lover of Art Nouveau, I now want to try this myself! For future reference, a good way to work with Apoxie Sculpt is to sculpt a rough base, let that cure and then go back in for the details to avoid smooshing things.

Aluminum foil works great to bulk out armatures for projects like these, and with clay that needs to be baked. Bonus hack: if you're sculpting a figure with a long skirt, you can totally skip sculpting the legs underneath. Just bulk out the shape with foil and lay sheets of clay on top like fabric.
Me reading the video title: "hmm, a lamp cosplay... Maybe like Lumiere" Me as soon as Rachel explains: "oooooh, that kinda makes more sense" I enjoyed this, as with all your videos. Love your artistic flair.
you know... i genuinely thought that i'm just someone who doesn't care much for lamps as a decorative object. but now, thanks to rachel, i have been enlightened. ART NOUVEAU LAMPS! 😍
I always find Rachel absolutely hilarious but rewatching this video today, for some reason it's being even more hysterical than usual. Thanks for a good laugh on a not-so-great day.
Just for the epoxy process, I’d recommend using a set of scales next time! That way it’ll be much easier to accurately measure and will therefore hopefully mean the curing process is perfect each time. I’d also recommend a chopping board of some description, and a clay-rolling pin. Just suggestions though! Thought the video was brilliant :D Sending love from England
the dress you are wearing in the intro is SOOOO BEAUTIFUL. I agree that a soft and gentle "ough" is the feeling of looking at a beautiful lamp... and I like many other commenters thought this video would be you dressing yourself up to look like a huge human sized lamp, which I was completely down to see, but this is really nice too and makes way more sense!!
Watching this made me envision your future grandkids marvelling at seeing a sculpture of grandma when she was a young woman! I think that is so precious to have!
not saying that i clicked on this video thinking i would see a life size cosplay of a lamp, but i did click thinking Rachel was going to make herself, her human physical being, into a lamp. why? because why not? all jokes aside, the end product was really pretty, rachel never fails to impress me with her many talents and wonderful brain.
For sculpting, you can take tinfoil to build up the structure and you can also use smaller wire to make the head and fingers. I think the channel is AceSculpting, or something to that akin, and he’s a really phenomenal sculptor and his videos are easy and simple to follow!!
I'm sure a tone of other people will have suggested it already, but you can also bulk up a wire armature with tinfoil to give it more mass and stability. That way you won't use as much clay, and it will hold itself upright better instead of smooshing under its own weight. Anyway thank you for introducing me to the world of art nouveau lamps, I am now PINING for the tiffany snail lamp that i cannot afford lmao

I'm really impressed by the sheer amount of prep work you did before starting. Usually it's just you jumping in, flailing around for a bit, and then pulling together something amazing. This time you did soooo much prep work and then just did amazing from the beginning. She's beautiful and I love your little lamp lady.
I wish there was a INSIDE OUT kind of movie about your mental processess. Also, is there anything that you say... nah, that i CAN'T do? because you really are good at everything you set to do! Just had so much fun picturing Michaelangelo
For some reason I thought you were going to drape fabric on the figure & starch it like papier maché, but you sculpted it out of clay. So talented! I probably would have started with a Barbie 😅
My current "Make" project isn't exactly a make. My dad has asked me to repaint his vast collection of lawn gnomes. I paint with acrylic. He brought me spray paint, which makes sense. It's going in the yard. I'm finding it really interesting to mix colors. My arms look like a kaleidoscope each day when I get done, but when you get that perfect rosy pink flesh tone out of a few sprays of pink and yellow and just a spritz of white... *chef's kiss*. It makes me happy. The project is going to take me forever, but atm I've got that creative drive to do it. I just hope it lasts me 25+ some odd gnomes and other figurines before the weather breaks or I burn out.
New subscriber. I see this lamp in all your videos and always think "Oh my goodness! Such a beautiful vintage lamp, I wonder where she bought it." And now I finally see you HAND MADE the little figure and modeled her yourself?! Incredible work.
a little bit too late but as a sculptor myself i would recommend not only to mix epoxy sculpt making two snakes and twisting them together like a DNA (it's WAAAY easier to blend them doing this way), but also to use cold porcelain when you need to imitate fabric. this material is used in artificial floral art and it's very elastic and can be rolled to a very thin layer! p.s. i love your channel and your chaotic energy and your art so much, you inspire me to keep doing my own stuff
paused the video to come and say that 'Bob Ross mixed with Miss Frizzle' is the PERFECT description of your vibe. Happy, warm friendly chaos where we get to explore new things and happy little accidents are taken in stride❤
I paused at minute 22:48 to type this. It might not matter at this larger scale, but cloth effects are MUCH easier to do with Green Stuff. While it is soft, it's more elastic than Apoxy Sculpt and can do that "cloth draping" thing with ease. It's also great for very small details. I like to use Apoxy Sculpt for basic shaping and bulk, then use Green Stuff for details and fine tuning.
It can be so hard to decorate in front of something so dramatic. But she fits so perfectly in the space, exactly like an occupant of your forest scene.
I'm amazed at how creative you've managed to stay and how diverse your video topics are. I love when you bring new things to the channel, from a little felt frog boi to making costumes for your dog to a near perfect recreation of a movie dress to making/remaking furniture pieces, to... turning yourself into furniture pieces? It's such a bright spot in my week!❤
Ok, the Home Alone bit got me. 🤣 But it turned out wonderfully! Your range of skill never fails to amaze! (And I loved spotting the mouse knight in the background too.)
Does anyone else with ADHD watch this and feel like they found their RUclips kindred spirit? No? Just me? Personally, if we could officially claim this gal as one of ours, that would make my week. But her brain and the discussions she may or may not have with others outside of her channel about it is really only her business. Thanks for making weirdos and creatives with or without labels feel at home, Rachel!
This turned out wayyyy better than I would have expected. Scultping this level of detail is harrrrrd. I was wondering if you could bypass the whole sculpting process by taking an old barbie, making her they way you want the result to look (curl her hair, glue fabric to her to make the dress) and soak the whole thing in spray glue to make it hard. Then plastidip, then paint. I think I will try that myself at some point in the future when I am in dire need of a vintage lamp.
My advice about the apoxie sculpt and smooshy face issues: Mix up smaller amounts at once, and do the base layer first, and let it harden, and build more on top of it with fresh clay. If you do have parts where you added too much, it can be sanded, carved, cut, or filed away. If the bit of clay you're working with at any given time is too smooshy, walk away for 10 minutes and come back when it's firmed up a bit. (but don't forget about it hahaha don't ask how I know)
@rachelmaksy you can put apoxy sculpt in a plastic zip loc bag and heat it up by 1) putting it in the microwave for a short amount of time or 2) putting it under hot water. Heating up the apoxy sculpt makes it way way easier to mix together quickly and evenly (and saves the hard work on your hands! :) Love your videos
Nina's card reminded me of when I, as a small child, was thoroughly scandalized by hearing my grandma say 'crap' which I thought was a strong swear word. Precious.
As an art model for a living, it was such a joy to watch you figure out head units (cranial units sounds so much more legit lol) and make an armature and build up a sculpture. I'm 7 heads tall as I think is the average person so I was a little confused at your counts of 3s lol, but you did a fantastic job☺️ Always a joy to watch your videos

Life is short my girl, if I were where you are now I would give up on your self doubt. People don’t come here to learn how to do things. Mostly people come here to spend time with a cool, interesting, fun lady. You come across with so much kindness and joy in what you do. Drive out those demons that young women all have to some degree. I wish someone had told me that when I was your age.❤️🇨🇦 I’m from Canada as you can tell by the 🇨🇦
SO LOVELY!!!! Also! You can always start with some apoxie sculpt for the face and let that cure then add onto it (and/or also use some exacto blades, carving and sanding tools on it after it cures!) This was a wonderful project! loved every second of it!

a little bit too late but as a sculptor myself i would recommend not only to mix epoxy sculpt making two snakes and twisting them together like a DNA (it's WAAAY easier to blend them doing this way), but also to use cold porcelain when you need to imitate fabric. this material is used in artificial floral art and it's very elastic and can be rolled to a very thin layer!
p.s. i love your channel and your chaotic energy and your art so much, you inspire me to keep doing my own stuff
I initially thought you were going to make a dress inspired by a lamp. This is incredibly creative of you! It turned out lovely 😊
As a mathematician, I laughed out loud at the unexpected math segment 😆
Love your videos!!
Rachel's content is the perfect combination of aesthetic and pure chaos, I love that for her 😭😭😭😭
I’m with you on the ASMR topic. But for me it’s literally any ASMR (mostly.)
Especially anything mouth-sound-ish and nails tapping.
at 2:40 it makes me feel like a moth ''yessss, shiny, fancy lamps. they glow so nice.''
paused the video to come and say that 'Bob Ross mixed with Miss Frizzle' is the PERFECT description of your vibe. Happy, warm friendly chaos where we get to explore new things and happy little accidents are taken in stride❤
It never ceases to amaze me how talented and creative in so many mediums Rachel is. How cool! 💖
The good luck spot made me think of the Juliet statue in Verona.
I love watching your process of translating creative ideas into a real object! Very impressive.
"OOF what are the lumens on that baby!" I have never GUFFAWED so loudly in my LIFE
That was perfectly normal.
I'm glad the clay worked out this time.
She didn't want to stare into the light any more than you did. ;)
Cute lamp accessory. You should always do what makes you happy no matter how chaotic or crazy it is. I'll be here watching.
Ok, the Home Alone bit got me. 🤣 But it turned out wonderfully! Your range of skill never fails to amaze! (And I loved spotting the mouse knight in the background too.)
Rachel had a good time. I had a good time. Everyone had a good time. This video is a gem!
Now I am looking for flower lamps to add to my office. My office is a smash of vintage / witch/ fandom memorabilia. lol
Can so tell you're feeling better, Rachel
My advice about the apoxie sculpt and smooshy face issues: Mix up smaller amounts at once, and do the base layer first, and let it harden, and build more on top of it with fresh clay. If you do have parts where you added too much, it can be sanded, carved, cut, or filed away. If the bit of clay you're working with at any given time is too smooshy, walk away for 10 minutes and come back when it's firmed up a bit. (but don't forget about it hahaha don't ask how I know)
8:45 omg this song is beautiful 🤣
@rachelmaksy you can put apoxy sculpt in a plastic zip loc bag and heat it up by 1) putting it in the microwave for a short amount of time or 2) putting it under hot water. Heating up the apoxy sculpt makes it way way easier to mix together quickly and evenly (and saves the hard work on your hands! :) Love your videos
Nina's card reminded me of when I, as a small child, was thoroughly scandalized by hearing my grandma say 'crap' which I thought was a strong swear word. Precious.
Rachel looking at lamps, channeling her inner moth❤
Honestly sponsor Rachel in this video was absolutely pin up vibes and I'm here for it!
I love the stuff you do. You do it to please yourself! Which makes it more fun for us to watch. BTW I’m not your average subscriber. I’m 72 years old. Mother of 4 girls, grandmother of 9 and great grandmother to 2 and soon to be 3 any day now. I was first attracted to your sewing videos but now I enjoy it all. I wish someone had told me that when I was your age.❤️🇨🇦 I’m from Canada as you can tell by the 🇨🇦
The absolute level of joy that I feel when I realize you have just posted a new video is astronomical. ⚜️🖤⚜️
I love how much fun Rachel had in this video!! 🥰
SO LOVELY!!!! Also! You can always start with some apoxie sculpt for the face and let that cure then add onto it (and/or also use some exacto blades, carving and sanding tools on it after it cures!) This was a wonderful project! loved every second of it!
My sister in law passed away and she always reminded me of you. Seeing videos of you makes me feel like I'm talking to her again ❤
I'm so obsessed with art nouveau lamps as well!! I'm always saying "If it's not made of bronze and stained glass & shaped like a plant or animal, I don't need it in my house." This was awesome!
i loved how happy Rachel was this whole video
You don't give yourself enough credit for just how talented you are. You created a masterpiece lamp, amazing
Petition to have Rachel make a Victorian lamp costume for a video.
"heck, why not?" is the best attitude to take to art, self-indulgence, and self-indulgent art.
You are absolutely a perfect mix of Bob Ross and Mrs. Frizzle, and why I never realized it before is beyond me. An absolutely delightful video as always!
