I haven't seen this level of computer wizardry since the movie Swordfish.
Nicely worded
I should have done the clap and spin method!
Love that movie.
Would love to see the cad work video. I miss STL Sundays because they were just educational enough to easily follow along and learn the basics in Fusion 360
Definitely would be cool to see a video of designing the cage in fusion. I'm a mechanical engineer who graduated about 3 years ago and I've been using solidworks for 3-4 years and I'm pretty proficient and love it. My student license for solidworks just expired so I'm going to try and learn Fusion for personal/tiny truck designing at home now.
I miss the STL sundays but I watch all that you do
Wow, it's really a useful and helpful video! We love it! Expect to see more of our scanning video and new design!
Yes please do more fusion 360 videos!
I’m trying to build my F360 skills, specifically for this hobby. So any video on this topic would be right up my alley. Always appreciate the knowledge you share with this community.
Couldnt agree more ✌🏼👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
would love to see how you go about designing the rollcage! may not be the most popular, but those who do watch the cad content appreciate it more than you know! ive been teaching myself fusion360, and seeing other people's work flow helps tremendously. that scanner is awesome too, i would love to have something that handy for modeling!!
I also miss the STL Sundays. I learned a lot of little tricks from those videos. I too would like to see you run through the creation of a cage in Fusion.
Great video! I got one via the Kickstarter as well...glad that whole debacle actually worked out, lol. I haven't used mine a ton, but I've been fairly happy with the stuff I have used it for. I use it primarily to capture objects that I eventually want to 3D print after modding the model. I made up my own matting agent to knock down the shine on shiny objects. I made it using crushed sidewalk chalk with a little bit of washable tempera paint mixed into it. It's dirt cheap, easy to make and it washes right off with water afterward. I usually apply it with a cheap Testors airbrush, but you could apply it with a regular brush by hand, if you like.
3d scanning pays my bills. We use industrial grade scanners (mostly atos scanbox 6130) with its software. But maybe there is an option to do that in creality sw or in fussion - When I scan something for myslef (usually RC body/chassis :D) for alignment (orienting the part acording to proper axes) I create "auto fit" planes where it is suitable and do "alignment by geometrical elements" - when its tapered, you can create plane on both doors and then let the sw compute middle plane (the door planes would be symetric by this one) etc. It does the most part of this alignemnt for me and usually requires only minor rotations in cad.
Also - windows 3D builder has an option to drop the stl to the bottom plane, sometimes works miracles :)
I’d love to use the industrial scanners! But $700 vs $10,000 is my hurdle! If I was doing contract work though, I’d absolutely be all over it!
Would love to see how to design a cage. There's a place for that in the scale modeling world for sure
I’d love to see a video on the cad work building the cage!
This is super cool! If only I used my design skills more for rc....
I would love to see a cage how to. Special episode of stl Sunday? That’s one video series you did that has been very useful time and time again. My sons getting a Ender 3 v2 neo for Xmas and I just shared the whole stl Sunday play list with him.
Groovy! Far out! Truly interesting. Absolutely Would like to see more content.
Would love to see the next step in how you use the 3D scans, I worry not knowing much about surfacing it a huge learning curve
I know very little about surfacing. I just use the surface as a reference and build with solids. You just watch to see if a solid intersects the surface. That’s all! I don’t actually reference the surface at all other than visually checking.
@@HarleyDesignsInc fair enough it defiantly seams to work for what your using it for. I’m not to sure what applications I would use one for but it’s a tool I have been looking at for a long time.
I was wondering could you scan yourself and print as a driver figure do you think?
Hahaha in our Makespace here in Madrid Spain we found out the best ever way to make a 3d print stick to the bed is by using the cheapest ever possible hair spay laque. Same spirit bro!
In any case. Owning a ecto myself , and interested in 3d and fusion, your review and sharing are highly appreciated.
Peace, may the torque be with you
i really like the technical stuff , helps a lot with my head stuff . thank you so much for all your video's .
Pretty cool man.
Always enjoy learning.
Fantastic! Yes!, to the cage design tutorial. Thanks for taking the intimidation out of tech.
This is pretty cool and its rad you sell the file for cheap. The cliffhanger and maybe the creep bodies are cool too.
I'd love to see a video about designing a cage
To re-orient a body, I've found that Meshmixer is a MUCH faster option than Fusion 360. It will recognize straight lines and parallel planes and snap the body to a plane using that. It will also snap it to the print surface. Meshmixer is great for a lot of simple maneuvers/manipulations that are tedious or complicated in F360.
I have mesh mixer but never used it for anything productive. I’ll try that!
Definitely interested in the design vids
I’m definitely in on the how to
THANKS Josh For another informative video. Helpful as always sir. Hope you both have a great weekend take care, 🇬🇧🇺🇲🕊️✌🏼🤙🏼
Hey Josh thank you for doing this video. I watched your live stream where you mentioned backing the scanner and I checked it out and backed it also. I haven’t had a chance to use my scanner yet…but this video is just the motivation I need to fire it up and do some scanning. I too would like to see your design process for cagework…after watching several of your Stl Sunday videos I started learning how to use fusion 360…it is so satisfying to come up with an idea in your head, design it, an watch a 3d print of your design come to life. Thank you so much for all the time you invest into this hobby and for sharing you knowledge with the rest of us.
Watched this while putting the kids to sleep, worked perfectly 👌
My coworkers say it puts them to sleep as well!
That looks awesome!
I would love to see the cage design process.
This is awesome! I want to learn more!
I really appreciate you sharing some of the process. It is motivation to step my game up.
Man I do miss STL Sundays.
love this!!!
👍
Very cool 😎
Please add more Fusion and 3d scanning content, maybe a live stream so you can go step by step and don't have to edit a long video.
Thank you Josh for sharing this with us. Its beyond something I would do but RC motivating just the same. Always enjoy the fab/tech sessions. FYI. I'd like to see more welding and or brazing on the channel. But understand if that doesn't get the hits to justify the time doing it. I can go back in the HD archive's. Cheers from Minnesota.
Matt and I have a video coming where we’ll be diving in on a project that will involve a lot of that!
@@HarleyDesignsInc Perfect!!!
That's a nice unit dude. Would you consider doing an inside roll cage for the Phoenix. I would be happy to pay for that file.
Great video, thanks for the insight!
Thanks for sharing!
Yeah I enjoyed this. That scanner is neato torpedo. Maybe a counterbalanced articulating gantry of sorts to clamp the scanner in would help handheld scans. Lookin forward to more content like this 🤘y'all have a badass day 🤘🍻🤘
I’m interested. Do the how to video. Also curious what pouring silicone you’re using for those moulds for the carbon fibre parts you made on the speed build? Great stuff, more please.
I’ll try and find the silicone link. I just got a gallon kit off Amazon.
Cool to learn about it 👍
As my Grandma would say... "what a nice young man"..
She would've also said this is Witchcraft so you couldn't believe everything she said... 🤣
Thanks for the cool content, 3d print files and entertainment.
Cheers mate 👍
Amazing 😂😂👵🏻
Man I wish you’d do a video on how you draw off the scan. I’ve got an idea, but I’m struggling a bit with positioning everything
You share a name with the fabricator from one of my favorite channels.
For initial positioning, I import the scan into Meshmixer and get it squared up and aligned. Then I import that data into fusion. Fusion still doesn’t make it easy to work with the scans unless you’ve got a closed surface which is tough for what I’m scanning.
@@HarleyDesignsInc that’s me lol thanks man! Love the content, I’ve been dying to build a chassis for a monster truck or mud truck or something. Recently used my Revo point range to try to scan a ranger body and it kept losing tracking at the tailgate but I was scanning the outside. Going to try your method and hope for better luck lol
I want the cage video, I miss STL Sunday
Definitely be interested in a design video please, top content as always, Thanks 👍🏻
You’re the man .
Very cool. can you scan a creep cab next?
I may be able to pick one up.
Very cool process! Looking forward to seeing more. My only question is, WTF is dry shampoo?😂 And what is it used for if it is "fire in a can"?🤣🤣
Pretty much what it sounds like! You spray it in your hair if it feels oily.
That scanner would be prefect to scan my 46 inch proboat formula hydroplane that’s a 2 stroke I took it out for the first time and lost the top to it in the middle of the lake and they were discounted years ago and I want to 3d print a mold for it since it sucks in water in the carb with out the top on
This would be a great tool to have in the arsenal but the price point has it out of reach for me at the moment. I love the cad videos but at the same time, I’ve been a cad guy for over 20 years.
I don't really see myself ever doing this, but it's very interesting. I don't know if they're any cheaper, but could just a measuring device provide same advantages with possibly less work?
I kinda want to get into Fusion because solidworks was so much fun in college, but I hate how much work it is to get a presentable finish to 3D printed parts
Measuring devices work well of course but they are the opposite of easier. It would probably take about 5-10x longer to do this process to the same accuracy without the scanner.
Mr. Harley, can you scan their Vanquish VS4-10 Phoenix Portal inside and outside? I want to build an inner cage and an outside enclosure over the entire body; thanks in advance / Joe P.S. you and your associates do great work; help keep this hobby alive and healthy! P.P.S. I also would like to see more bold work welding if you can manage.
Do you have an interior cage for the Phoenix?
Is that a GSpeed chassis you put on your Ecto? Looking to get one for mine. Plus, my body is looking pretty ragid. Lol Probably have to put a new body on. Haha
I feel like I’ve watched the pizza delivery scene, then never got the money shot!
I want to learn how to make a kage on fusion 😁
I think it's awesome. My only problem is getting my filament to stick to the bed on the ender 3 s1 pro.
Throw some PVA glue down if all else fails.
@@HarleyDesignsInc I might give that a try.
i guess without a good rig a scan of a chassis would be near useless? have you tried photogrammetry?
Make the cage video!
i just recieved a revopoint mini 3d scanner for rc scanning and argi models
The original or the Version 2?
@@HarleyDesignsInc is there a version 2. I need to look for it
It’s the Pop 2. I keep seeing advertising for it, and it looks powerful as well.
@@HarleyDesignsInc I have the mini, 0.02mm little more details in the scan, they say…
What does the cage mounts or screws to?. The body or the chassis?.
what website can I buy that cage from as I dont have a 3d printer
What is the scan software you used?
where would I find these ecto and cliffhanger roll cages?
They’ll be on my website linked in the description soon.
Have you scanned your jhonson lol
This is always Nicole’s first question.
I cheat! I use a Faro arm at work! lol
We both know you're buying that dry shampoo for yourself now.
my first question was "what the heck is dry shampoo"
First
Making designs easy(but expensive asf) lmfao jesus that thing is costly
