    Unsolicited Comment: I took the Fusion course right after release. Like what 2 years ago?
    It was the only course that ever really got me going. I had taken a course at my local marker space and one on RUclips. Neither really got me to a place where I could do much of anything.
    Bob's course was a perfect intro course for what I needed. It got me to a point where I could do almost everything and know enough when I needed to do something more advanced I could watch a video and understand what was going on.
    Highly recommend

      Same! I had a ton of false starts with Fusion, but the ILTMS course just seemed to "click" with me. I felt like it was the right amount of information to get you started without being overwhelming.

      @@lewisreid7395 I also tried to force myself to do a "simple project a day" that took about maybe 15-20 minutes to do - like learn how to make threaded bolts / nuts or press-fit objects, etc - it really helped and now I don't know how to build anything without modeling it first. :-)

    Bob, please make this a full series video. My first vehicle was a 1979 FJ40. It was my dads. I grew up with remembering Tojo (as we called the FJ40) being broken down for most of my life on the driveway. When I became old enough to get my license, my dad and I got Tojo running again. It needed brakes, tires, fuel pump, slave cylinder, a transfer case (was hard to find back in the mid 2000s). The tub was rusted to hell, it steered like crap with its manual steering, brakes sucked, the 4 speed was geared so low you could start in 4th from a stop. The hard top was missing and the soft top leaked like crazy. It was blazing fast with a top speed of like 70 mph. Tojo was out on the road for about 4 months, my brother moved back home and ran Tojo low on oil. My dad got rid of it because he didn't wanna spend anymore money on it. I had dreams of restoring Tojo but it never happened. So please, make a series about this and let me see what Tojo could have been. Btw. That center console is awesome! I would have loved to have something like that. Looking forward to seeing what else you do with the FJ. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

    Those PVC sheets are one of my favorite materials! They are soft enough that with some patience you can cut them with a utility knife, and they glue up with super glue really well. They were a life saver when I was working out of a spare bedroom and didn't have a any power tools.

  • @JarheadCrayonEater

    This brings back memories of growing up in Colorado 4-wheeling since I was 3 days old. Our HS shop teacher was a badass. He climbed McKinley several times, and took us backpacking every few months. What was really cool is that he owned dozens of '70's FJ's that we would rebuild in class.
    Unfortunately, he passed away about two years ago, but at 47 I still remember those days with him like it was yesterday.
    At least I kept using the skills he taught us, and now own a fully restored 1979 C-10 with Ramjet 350. One thing I don't have is AC, and now live in hot and humid Charleston, SC!

    If you haven't thought about it already you could easily install a bung on the bottom of your console cooler to help drain any water from melted ice and it would still be water tight as well :)

    • @doubledarefan
      @doubledarefan Месяц назад +1

      Yes. And, if needed, you could run a pipe thru the floor of the car, so the console would not need to be removed from the car to be drained.

    I never knew PVC sheets were a thing, interesting material to test out!
    One concern would be the edges of the aluminum being quite sharp and causing an injury. Perhaps 3D printing corner bumpers would be nice, or a cushioned top that extended past the edges and becomes a seat when tailgating?
    I appreciate Bob sharing their ideas and skills, be well!

    • @donhartfield
      @donhartfield Месяц назад +3

      Yeah. PVC sheets and blocks are becoming a lot for readily available for good prices. You are starting to see a lot of craftsman utilize them for all sorts of things. For some examples, using them as kick-plate covers for outside the home where the wood would meet the ground and wood would rot; use PVC sheets instead because they will never rot. PVC blocks for the bottom inch or two where your wood blocking on exterior doors would touch concrete or get wet; PVC instead because it won't absorb water and rot. Some hardware stores won't stock it, but you'll find they can get it shipped super easily and it's not near as expensive as you might think.

    Would probably be nice with some rubber or foam to get rid of the rattle while driving.
    And maybe overkill, but the if cup holder rested on top of the walls and also went into the empty space below it, it could be seated with just the friction and then it could be swapped out for other inserts making it quite versatile

    I would recommend putting some rubber bumpers over the sharp metal corners. It looks like it would be very easy to accidentally ram your elbow into it while driving. There's a reason those center consoles typically aren't sharp and angular.

    15:45 Make a part that holds both nuts captive, so you will you not be hitting the back edge of the console with such a small hard object if it's over-extended with any force, but also you won't have to get a wrench out to blindly hold it for the disassembly. Also you could get fancy and basically seal the metal away from being exposed to direct moisture, ideally use SS hardware, but eh, you usually got what you got.

    There is a third reason to 3D scan. I'm an engineer part of my last job was to 3D scan casted aircraft engine parts. Then I'd take those parts and do a model comparison. Also as a side project outside of work I would scan rocket nozzles (before and after fire). Using the scan data I could get dimensions of various things and calculate various properties. I'd also take that data and do a comparison to the simulated model. In both cases, 3D scanning was a way to do different types of inspections and comparisons.
