I have a 1967 Galaxie 500 2 door fastback with a 289, and I did the 390 FE swap. I can tell you that the standard issue I've seen on the water pumps is that the old-timers had overheating issues on those old FE's and that they were constantly filling or fiddling with the radiator or cooling system in general. That's why your fill tank was clogged as well. Typically the more motors you see, you'll see the last two cylinders on the FE's, get more heat saturation. That's why you see a lot of collapsed lifters, bent pushrods, worn valve guides, and sticky valves. Great video.👍
It's great to see the Galaxy run again! The 390 sounds strong and the burnout is one of the best on RUclips. excellent job Sleeperdude Ralfie and rocky.

I believe that car has been sitting with the wheels buried to the frame in mud or in a flood. With those brake lines caked into the frame, brakes and drums rusted, and the transmission looked like it had water/ mud in it. And the trunk floor rusted out, it adds up to mud/ flood. I love those older model Fords. They will run the stripes off a zebra. I love watching you work on these old cars because I grew up with my grandfather who was a mechanic and I was like Ralphie. I went under them with him and as a kid I could take a motor apart and put it back like new. I'm 77 years old now and still love it. Of course I can't do the work now but sure enjoy watching you do it.
When I was about Ralphie's age the neighbors had a 64 Galaxie the same color as yours parked in the alley outside our back fence. I used to sit in it and pretend I was driving all over the place. One day I got out of it and when I slammed the door shut my thumb was in the door. My thumb put the door in a bind and it wouldn't open up. I had to yell and scream for dad to come and get the door open. It ended up breaking my thumb. What was most embarrassing was I was the piano player at our church and I couldn't play with a broken thumb. Everybody in the church and at school found out what I did and deviled the daylights out of me for the stupid thing I had done. Tell Ralphie to not get his finger in the door because it hurts like heck ! You guys are awesome.
My Dad had a FORD GALAXY 500. It was red with a black vinyl top. He's been gone since 1988. So i can't ask him any questions about it. And those jump start booster packs are a real life saver. Just remember to leave it in the vehicle that you are driving. For that matter get one for every car you drive.
Hey Brother, great discovery with the Posi Rear!! Every time I replaced an FE engine in my 63 & 64 Galaxies, I pulled the valve covers. If they were covered in sludge (which they always were!), an old timer told me to run 3 qts of kerosene, two quarts of oil and a new filter. Let engine come up to temp, shut down and repeat process. Every time I've done this, when I remove the valve covers, the rockers were spotless. I HATED those expansion tanks!!! For some reason they always blew out the seams. Couldn't figure out why.
The first car I ever remember my Dad had was a 64 ford Galaxy convertible. I remember seeing those tail lights always backing up the driveway when my father would come home.
I had a 63.5 Galaxie500xl in high school… What a car she was! I had a time with that radiator reservoir.. I had to buy a new/used one to replace it.. It caused my car to run hot once🤦♂️ Love the videos brother!
If all else fails, you can go to a shop that makes hydraulic hoses of all kinds and they most likely can make you some flexible brake lines. Just make sure to bring all the fittings if you cut the line or broke it. You might have a limited slip posi diff in that thing. I saw just one wheel spin a couple of times at the beginning and switch back and forth before both locked in. What a burnout! Make sure you have all that water out of the engine and don't take chances. I saw a guy ruin a fresh rebuild leaving straight water in it. He didn't have antifreeze and he used water. Then it froze that night. Love the car and it really sounds pretty good.
This car sounds like a beast! Glad you made them rear tires round again. Much love from Southern California! Ralphie ducking behind the car when you open sodas has be cracking up. Keep up the good work!
I have never in my life run into a car full of that much rust inside the brakes. That almost looks like it was sitting in a swamp for years. It's just fun to get old cars to run and drive for the first time in 30 yrs. Thanks for another great video.
Glad you enjoyed it yes the brakes were a mess.. it actually was in a junkyard for the last 30 years no swamps .. I think this is how brakes really are on cars that really have been sitting that long.
Awesome video man! Nothing like the sound of an old big block Ford with open headers. It really runs darn good and no smoke after sitting all that time. Those brakes were the absolute worst I have ever seen, and I've restored a few cars. I love watching you would and seeing your beautiful family!
Dude, I clearly recall my Aunt Mary in 1964 getting a brand new red colored Ford Galaxie 500 2 door hardtop...it was beautiful...I was 10 years old and remember this car exactly.
Brandon, I was born in 66, and my parents had a 64 Galaxy Country Squire station wagon similar to the Country Sedan you have, but we had the wood paneling, AC, ect. Dad traded it in in 71 when I was 5, but I do remember my parents talking about how they had to replace the water pump several times during the 7 yrs they had it.

Ralphie should be out there with you while you are packing those bearings. He is such a fortunate young man. All your kids are! I love that car and wish I had one.

Dude, either that Ford has a super tight limited slip diff or a spool. When you were on the grass, that inside tire was turning faster than it should. Love this car
Your channel just popped up today. what got me hooked was the falcon speedometer 40 50 60 50 40 30 been binge watching all day long Love the content RV is the best been laughing my butt off Great content God bless!
I've been subscribed for around a year or so now, but the last couple months I've been really getting into your videos, so I figured why not time travel and watch some classics before the new upload
I know it's been a minute since you posted this...but, my hack for catching the majority of the coolant...is to use like a long Sterlite under-bed tote, from like Wal-Mart. It covers a wide area, and it's deep enough to hold all of it. Now emptying it, without spilling it, is another matter. 😂
That was me that sent you the new lone wolf 6000 starter switch. lol If you get a good alternator on that rig you can get you power for the choke from the stator post on a Ford. Keep up the good vids!
Im pretty good at hitting the pan. I’m currently doing my first engine swap/build inside of a storage unit. I live in an apartment so it’s all I have for the winter. 96’ s10 going from a 350 to a 383.
Hey Sleeperdude. That engine looks like a 66 or later 390 ci. My dad had a 66 Galaxie with a 390 ci and your engine looks identical to what I remember of his. The 390 was Fords go to performance motor for several years until the 406 in the 63 Galaxie came out to compete with the 409 Chevrolet in NASCAR races. Then of course the 427, 428, 429 Fords. I think Steve McQueens 67 Mustang in the movie Bullit had a 390 ci with a Tripower set up. That 390 was a good strong motor. Sounds good. 👌🏻
Killer burnout! I just knew those casings were gonna explode, but they hung in there! That car is rough around the edges but would make a great driver.
When you see the Rube Goldberg contraption look of those drum brakes it's a miracle they ever work. I started doing my own drums when I was 16 and I don't think they changed at all in 60 years. (I'm not 76, but I've seen the ancient drum brakes, pretty much the same.)
I remember being taught to do drum brakes after trying to avoid them altogether. My instructor put me on a car with 4-wheel drums, told me to do one side at a time and start with the front. By the time it was over, I was old hat! 👍 CHEERS! 🇱🇷
@@armedinbama Definitely have to have one side to use as reference, at first. I think I still have my spring-stretcher and my retainer pin depresser/twister out in my tool chest.
@@townhall05446 You know what that means, right? Same thing it means when you know what a 45-RPM adapter is for. 😁 From one old guy to another, CHEERS! 🇱🇷
I have loved those old Galaxies ever since I was a kid and watched Sheriff Andy Griffith driving one in Mayberry. My Dad had a similar car ( a 1966 Ford LTD with a 352) but it didn't look as nice as the 64 Galaxie!
Such a good lookin car. Between u and derek from VGG, yall make me wanna ressurect old cars. Down fall is no place to do it. My uncle gave me a 87 f250 4x4, he bought it new. It sat for 15 yrs because the fuel pump went out. I replaced it n it ran good. Started drivin it n it gets better every day. The only brake parts ive had issues with is where the pass side hardline goes thru the frame, it just rotted in half. Otherwise, the brakes work perfect. Got lucky with the soft lines
I like the music you use when you work on the cars. Reminds me of when I was a kid watching fix-it shows on early Cable channels. Really upbeat sounds. lol Keep up the good work. You and your son Ralphie make a good team. You work, He advices. One day he'll make a great coach.
First Merry Christmas to Y’all family. That 390 is a powerhouse potential. When you pulled it out with the truck it loosens the transmission drums and freed up the reverse drum and started working. I love the longer videos lot better content than the 20 minute videos much more enjoyable. Looking forward to seeing more of the Galaxy 500 content can’t wait to see you clean it up. I like when you involve your kids to participate to help you and spend time with them. You’re a good father and May you have a Blessed One Sir.
That's the same way for me to man. I have to wear my flip flop Year round even in 20 and 30 degree temperatures. My foot outgrew shoes , socks , & boots 35 years ago because i have big very very extremely wide feet that are sz16 6 EEEEEE wide with chubby very fat wide toe that are equally straight across making my foot very very wide at 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my lil toe. It is a extremely wide foot man. I like your comment Tom ! Just curious do you wear flip flops?
@@mackjenkins7721 not for a long time. I got wide feet too. Got to get new shoes stretched wider at journeys when I get new shoes. Used to wear sandals. Switched to water shoes cause it just felt right.
@@tomdavidson3826 oh okay. Oh you got wide feet too. Just curious wide is your foot? My best friend he is a lil chubby & have wide feet too but not as wide as mine but he do have chubby toes though & I'm just the opposite I'm a big chubby dude with chubby fat wide toes that are equally straight across. My buddy has a sign made up in his house saying ( welcome to the wide foot Club ) it's funny cuz I have five boys and all five of my boys have very wide feet except for my 3th son John who has a very very extremely wide foot like mine. He's only 12 years old with a sz13 4 EEEE wide with big toe that are equally straight across. He's already having problems with shoes and socks crushing and hurting his toes so he pretty much just sticks with his flip-flops cuz they are more comfortable to wear. My 12 year-old feet are bigger than my 1th son who 26 year-old with a sz 12. I wish I could fit into a pair of shoes. I take it your foot it's not that extremely wide. I can't even find a water shoe that's wide enough to fit me. I'm 95% of the time barefooted 👣 I even have to drive my car Barefooted 👣because my foot is so wide that it touches the brake and gas pedal at the same time. I almost had several accidents because of that. I thought I was hitting the break and I actually was hitting the gas pedal. I constantly have to look down to see where to put my toes at because of my toes being too fat and too wide. Hope you have a good weekend buddy.
Awesome!!! Have you look to see what the casting number is on the block? That 390 was probably close to 315-320hp, when new. Great video, thanks for sharing it with us. I’m looking forward to the new one. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great video the burnout was the best. I have to agree with you on the single master cylinder l was driving back from my HS prom picnic in my 64 Ford Country Squire Wagon with 10 classmates and the cylinder quit emergency brake all the way back home 60 miles scared the hell out of me but made it safely
Old timers trick for automatics , dump in a pint or two of brake fluid . Also the type of fan blade on that FE was notorious for shucking fan blades . Used to work in a junkyard and got to see the end results . Have been cautious around flex fans ever since

Dude, either that Ford has a super tight limited slip diff or a spool. When you were on the grass, that inside tire was turning faster than it should. Love this car
Yeah I’m not sure thanks
Your channel just popped up today. what got me hooked was the falcon speedometer 40 50 60 50 40 30 been binge watching all day long Love the content RV is the best been laughing my butt off Great content God bless!
That’s awesome I’m glad you like it
Please don't get rid of that car... It is a true treasure... Lon from Ohio....
Yes it is
Old Fords never die they just keep rolling on, great video, I'm a Ford Fanatic too.
Awesome thank you
The Burn was well worth the watch! Ralfie responded like he is still grounded. More Rocky if possible !
Thank you I appreciate it
I wish my dad or my family taught me how to be a mechanic When I was a kid.
God bless your family ✝️🧑🏼🔧
Thank you
I've been subscribed for around a year or so now, but the last couple months I've been really getting into your videos, so I figured why not time travel and watch some classics before the new upload
That burnout rocked. I had a 62 Ford and a 64 Ford reverse went out of both of them. Must be a common failing.
I guess so thank you
Hi. Two things. 1. Can we have Rocky? So cute! 2. Can you add your merchandise link in description? Thanks and love the videos!! 💜
1. My wife would kill me 2.good idea I will try to do that
my 64 had a 390. Tank City! Great show!
Thank you
I also use advance auto as a last resort, and fully agree about counter people who can only find it if it's on the computer!
Yep
That was me that sent you the new lone wolf 6000 starter switch. lol If you get a good alternator on that rig you can get you power for the choke from the stator post on a Ford. Keep up the good vids!
Ok thank you for sending the gift and thanks for the info
Im pretty good at hitting the pan. I’m currently doing my first engine swap/build inside of a storage unit. I live in an apartment so it’s all I have for the winter. 96’ s10 going from a 350 to a 383.
Awesome
Yep,that's the 390.My '64 convertible made me a bucket of money in the days.
That’s cool
Man that's an amazing burnout for that old Galaxie!! Keep the vids coming!
Thank you so much
Man I didnt even know you posted. Been helping Dad build a shed today. Looking forward to it
Oh man
I swear I could actually smell rubber burning 🔥 awesome video
That’s funny thank you
Awesome video I cannot believe that that car fought you all the way Especially that dad burn Transmission
Thank you yes it did
Hey Sleeperdude. 👌🏻
I think you are right
Killer burnout! I just knew those casings were gonna explode, but they hung in there! That car is rough around the edges but would make a great driver.
Ralphie was upset that we didn’t pop a casing… thanks for watching
I love fords, you can always make them run, love your crew. even rocky, stay safe
Yep thank you
awesome job getting the car back on the road great family project
Thank you
When you see the Rube Goldberg contraption look of those drum brakes it's a miracle they ever work.
CHEERS!
From one old guy to another, CHEERS! 🇱🇷
⅔35
I have loved those old Galaxies ever since I was a kid and watched Sheriff Andy Griffith driving one in Mayberry. My Dad had a similar car ( a 1966 Ford LTD with a 352) but it didn't look as nice as the 64 Galaxie!
Killer burn out ! Can't wait to see more on this cool 64' , Hi Rocky and friends !!
Hello !!! Thanks for watching
All your videos remind me of my childhood, and although it’s fun to watch, I’m glad I have new daily drivers! Haha keep up the good content.
Did anyone bring up the fact the orange cat did huge burnout getting away from the Galaxie lol?. That was great laugh.
We saw it in the editing .. it was great thank you
Such a good lookin car.
That’s great thank you
I like the music you use when you work on the cars. Reminds me of when I was a kid watching fix-it shows on early Cable channels. Really upbeat sounds. lol
Keep up the good work. You and your son Ralphie make a good team. You work, He advices. One day he'll make a great coach.
I’m glad you like it, I hope he does thanks
She's Already got the demo Derby wheels on it ready to head out. NICE BURNOUT
Yes she does thank you
i love watching this long videos thank you for making them have a great day :)
I’m glad you enjoyed them thank you
First Merry Christmas to Y’all family.
Thank you so much and Merry Christmas to you too
20 degrees in flippy flops. Love it!
No I need to do that
I love that 64. Your videos are amazing love the content keep pulling them out and getting them on the road!!!!!
Ok thank you
I’ve have a 66 c-10. I love working on it. I had to boil the radiator and heater core. The mess I made trying to do that was unbelievable.
Oh wow I bet
Great video the burnout was the best. I have to agree with you on the single master cylinder l was driving back from my HS prom picnic in my 64 Ford Country Squire Wagon with 10 classmates and the cylinder quit emergency brake all the way back home 60 miles scared the hell out of me but made it safely
That can get scary
Old timers trick for automatics , dump in a pint or two of brake fluid . Also the type of fan blade on that FE was notorious for shucking fan blades . Used to work in a junkyard and got to see the end results . Have been cautious around flex fans ever since
Ok great Info thank you
Great job, that old Ford done come up in your shop and took a major dump. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞
Thanks for watching
Nice way to start a rainy weekend!
Glad you enjoyed it
