The amount of rust in the filter means that the tank is really bad, and I would think the fuel lines are pretty well full of rust now. That would cause the problems you are having with fuel delivery.
Carbs need their accelerator pumps to maintain and increase fuel delivery when opening the throttle. Any time the vehicle requires more throttle, the accelerator pump is used to compensate for reduced intake vacume. Older carbs had leather pump diaphragms, and they dry out, become worn, and suffer from dirt. Carburation is becoming a lost art, and its shameful. At its root, carburation is the science used for so many things, including fuel injection.

From the amount of RUST particulate that keeps plugin the fuel filter, I would have to think that the fuel tank is rusted beyond being usable, back then these fuel tanks were made of steel not Galvanized like later years. The only way to stop all the trash making it`s way into the carburetor is to replace the fuel tank, then flush the fuel through the mechanical pump before connecting to the carburetor, definitely install the largest fuel filter you can to protect the most important component of metered fuel delivery, the Carburetor. It would be a good idea to remove the carburetor and rebuild it also. If not, you will continue to have starting & drive ability issues with the car due to the rusted fuel tank. Love your videos. You have a beautiful family, may God bless.

I learned how to work on cars from my dad and grandpa. Grandpa passed away this summer. I'll be getting his 79 ford mustang going and back on the road. Its all about the memories.
Hello happy New Year's to you and your family sleepersdude. Man that was awesome seeing Ralphie driving grandpa's car. That said that you couldn't drive it all the way back to Grandpa's house. But it definitely was a good try. Ralphie had my laughing in the video at 9:10 trying to open the bottle & in the video at 16:26 that was cool watching you driving with your shoes on man. What was really awesome was to see Grandpa driving his 42 Ford with his grandson & his great-grandson in the car with him. That is a great memory right there & an awesome picture too. You know I really love the end when Ralphie volunteered really really fast to wear your flip-flops & watching you put them on his feet was cool to watch. I am surprised you didn't have them on. Sleepersdude question? Do Ralphie like wearing flip-flops? It was cool seeing him having your flip-flops on his feet. My son would do the same thing. He will go put my Flip flops on which is a sz15 on his feet which is a sz 9 & then go try to wear them to the store and people are staring at his feet & saying OK. The only good part about it is he has a very wide feet so it takes up the Gap space in the front but the back part is just way too long but it's funny to see him trying to walk in them. Happy New Year's to you buddy and I'm looking forward to supporting your channel for 2022.
Thank you Happy New Year to you as well . We had a lot of fun with this video and driving it as well . Ralphie will wear anyones shoes if it’s convenient for him
Sweet seeing your boy drive old car that's an experience most kids will never have. I got my grandparents old 57 IHC 2 ton 4x4 truck . My boys 9 and we've been getting him behind the wheel on the farm 4 generations have now drove that Truck.
Thats really cool that you have that connection with your grandpa. My grandfather had a 65 Ford truck that I wanted but I don't know what ever happened to it. It was his farm truck that was low miles and good condition.
Your radio has tubes in it and they have for sure gone bad but all in all a beautiful car and a great way to raise kids free from the insanity of city life.
Bro I love your content, getting your kids involved in your builds makes kids that will now the meaning of money and the shit that comes with video game there is no more fun than stripping down an engine
I am from LA and I worked for the studios in the IATSE for years and so did my Dad. I enjoy seeing REAL people for a change. I kind of of resent the brat pack kids from Malibu who got such a head start in life and don`t even appreciate it. My Great Great Great Grandparents are from Ruttlidge Tenn.
Cherish those moments with your Grandpa. My father in law read the Christmas story from the Bible too. He passed away in October due to Covid. It was a hard Christmas this year without him.
I love these videos, great family interaction. My grandfather has a junk car yard in the 20s and 30s. My father and his two Brothers worked on the old cars. My father and older brother both joined Navy in WW11 and worked on Black gangs (Engineering). After the War dad switched to Air Corps, and MOS was Aircraft Maintenance. We always did our own vehicle maintenance, and I spent many days and hours working on our cars. They were great days, I learned a lot. I missed those days, and cherish the memories!
Great video! Thanks for taking us along for the ride! You are truly blessed to have your grandfather still in your life. I just wish I had a grandson to spend time with and help me work on my projects.
My dad always let us drive the vehicles from sitting on his lap because we couldn’t reach the pedals to driving on our own by the age of 7-10… None of us have been in a accident either in my 45 years alive so far…
It warms my heart to see Ralphie and the two girls so enthusiastic about fixing up these old cars. It won't be too much longer before Ralphie is turning wrenches and making repairs on his own. I would really like to know, of all the cars you have featured in these videos which one is his favorite? You should ask him on camera -- I would really like to hear what he has to say! Maybe he likes something that you do not have. So many kids his age simply have no interest. That is a pretty sweet '57 Chevy your dad has in his garage. Since my old beater is a '55 210, I am partial to the Tri-Fives. You are so fortunate to have such a fabulous family.
I think that part of the problems that you had going up hills was caused by rust in the fuel tank clogging up the outlet and then when you were back on flat ground it washed away from the outlet allowing the fuel to flow normally. Thanks for another excellent video.
I had to stop the video here. Ralphie will have this memory for the rest of his life ❤️. Reminds me when my dad let me drive his 68 GMC TRUCK with 3 on a tree down the old dirt road to where we went fishing 🎣.

At about Ralphis’s age my mom taught me to drive with three on the tree. A 1950 Chevy, that was 60 years ago. I miss my mother and that car, and the 54 she had. Happy New’s years
My first drive with manual transmission was when i were 6 years old and i still remember it clearly:). The car was 1973 Audi B1 GT . Now i am 36. Ralphy got it so naturally- Awsome to see:). Happy New Year!
Ralphie did a good job of driving. It's amazing how well he handles those vehicles. You need to get him a pillow to sit on. I'm sure he could drive even better when he can see where he is going. I used to sit with my left leg under me to be tall enough to see to drive, but that was driving an automatic. But that wouldn't help him when there's a clutch pedal to work.
This brings back memories. This car was made when the highest speed limit most people would see was 50. Fords would usually run as fast as 80. I remember seeing some speed limits as low as 35 on hills and curves. (started school in 1948.) A cousin had a 48 Ford V8 coupe with shaved heads and glass packs. Lots of fun! Gas mileage was around 18 for a Ford and 20 for a Chevy. With a lube every 1000 and oil change every 2000 they kept on rolling. Ring and valve job was cheap by today's standards. Lots of V8s got shaved heads. 1940-48 Fords were everywhere until the mid 50s.
Ralphie drove that car better than I did when I was 17 and had a 6 speed shifter. God, he's a natural. lol Also a very good camera man. Not shaky like some adults. Be proud of him. He's gonna make a very well adjusted adult one day. Keep the videos com'iin. Love the channel. With all your explaining you make it very interesting. I loved when your wife called Ralphie from the train track. It showed me he is just a kid after all. lol Say Hello to the rest of the Family.
To all your family, a belated, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It is always a beautiful thing to watch your family work together in these videos. My father will be 91, sadly his health is poor and he can't work on cars any more. I miss the days of seeing him work. God bless all of you and I will see you in future videos. 😊
Many old car radios had a power converter because the tubes they used required much higher voltages than the 6 volt battery provided. Those converters made a buzzing sound when the radio was turned on. Not sure about the 42 Ford but it probably had that system.

JC Whitney used to have those toilet-paper filters in their cataloged. Never thought it was a good idea.
Agree on the radio. Before the transistor, tubes were used in auto radios. They take a little time to warm up before the unit will produce sound.
@@richlaw1965 I can attest to that. When I bought s 51 Ford. I assumed the radio did'nt work, untill I let it warm up.
these old cars last forever that's what i love about any classic car or truck
They do if you keep them inside
What a great New Year now with this video! Hope Rocky and the wives are doing well!! And of course we gotta wish Y'all a very Happy New Year for all that you bring us selflessly!!
Thank you Happy New Year
I'm sure grandpa was happy to get the 42 back out. These old cars never get too old to enjoy.
Yes he was excited thank you
More great content, great seeing your grandfather drive
Thank you . Yes I was glad he drove it we are gonna stay on him about keeping it on the road
I learned how to work on cars from my dad and grandpa. Grandpa passed away this summer. I'll be getting his 79 ford mustang going and back on the road. Its all about the memories.
That’s right make memories while you can happy new year
Hello happy New Year's to you and your family sleepersdude.
That’s awesome ..
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
The screen is for the big pieces you don't want circulating to the filter! Surprised it has both.
Happy New Year thank you
Thats really cool that you have that connection with your grandpa. My grandfather had a 65 Ford truck that I wanted but I don't know what ever happened to it. It was his farm truck that was low miles and good condition.
Yes I’m glad we are close thanks for watching
Just like an oil filter you don't want toi over tighten the oil filter lid. It will push the seal out.
Ok thanks
Your radio has tubes in it and they have for sure gone bad but all in all a beautiful car and a great way to raise kids free from the insanity of city life.
Thank you . Yes we try to keep them outside and involved with practical stuff . Thanks for watching and happy new year
Happy New Year, Sleeper, Ralphie, and Rocky! Keep it ROLLING!!👍
Happy New Year
Bro I love your content, getting your kids involved in your builds makes kids that will now the meaning of money and the shit that comes with video game there is no more fun than stripping down an engine
Thank you I hope I am doing a good job
i would drop the tank and check the filter in the tank.
That would probably be a good idea
That would probably be a good idea
I am from LA and I worked for the studios in the IATSE for years and so did my Dad. I enjoy seeing REAL people for a change. I kind of of resent the brat pack kids from Malibu who got such a head start in life and don`t even appreciate it. My Great Great Great Grandparents are from Ruttlidge Tenn.
Oh wow. That’s cool thank you
The chicken wire roof had me cracking up! Looks interesting. I'll be looking forward to some videos.
Yeah that’s funny thanks for watching
Cherish those moments with your Grandpa. My father in law read the Christmas story from the Bible too. He passed away in October due to Covid. It was a hard Christmas this year without him.
I try my best to he is a great man. I hate to hear that about your family
Glad you got papa's Ford Fordor back to him with no incidents. Have a safe trip home my friend.
Thank you yeah we were excited too
I love these videos, great family interaction. My grandfather has a junk car yard in the 20s and 30s. My father and his two
Brothers worked on the old cars. My father and older brother both joined Navy in WW11 and worked on Black gangs
(Engineering). After the War dad switched to Air Corps, and MOS was Aircraft Maintenance. We always did our own
vehicle maintenance, and I spent many days and hours working on our cars. They were great days, I learned a lot.
I missed those days, and cherish the memories!
Great video! Thanks for taking us along for the ride! You are truly blessed to have your grandfather still in your life. I just wish I had a grandson to spend time with and help me work on my projects.
Thank you for watching, I am blessed with a great family
My dad always let us drive the vehicles from sitting on his lap because we couldn’t reach the pedals to driving on our own by the age of 7-10…
None of us have been in a accident either in my 45 years alive so far…
Yes I am blessed with a great family, he really likes my 89 supercoupe Thunderbird because it’s a 5 speed and does good donuts
I think that part of the problems that you had going up hills was caused by rust in the fuel tank clogging up the outlet and then when you were back on flat ground it washed away from the outlet allowing the fuel to flow normally. Thanks for another excellent video.
Maybe so thank you
I had to stop the video here. Ralphie will have this memory for the rest of his life ❤️.
Reminds me when my dad let me drive his 68 GMC TRUCK with 3 on a tree down the old dirt road to where we went fishing 🎣.
I hope he does thank you
Great job man. Grandpa is so valuable so spend as much time as you can with him. This channel is very authentic.
Thank you I appreciate it and yes he is an awesome grandpa
I enjoy every minute I have with him thank you
i hope the kids as they grow older they will cherish these moments with mom and dad :) stay blessed i don't know which order i'm going but will comment when i can ...got health issues going on
I'm 81 yrs old and I have a 1947 ford, and the access hole drain plug was so you could turn the engine over and tighten rod bearings and check back lash etc. You've got a jewel there save it for your son, keep it original, mine still has the mohair seats and door panels, you have a keep sake from your Gpa that will be in your memory forever, Jim las vegas nv
Ok thank you I didn’t know that
Radio is AM stations and they aren't that popular today. Ralphie was so cute behind that steering wheel.
That’s true, thank you
That old Ford is a beautiful piece of machinery
Good job Ralphie driving it!
Great video guys
Thank you yes it is
Your papa is so cool. Love his attitude.
Yes he is greatv
i learned to drive a stick shift in downtown Spokane during rush hour. dad gave me the car and said i will meet you in the valley for lunch i did good, didn't kill the engine or scratch gears, and got a free lunch.
That’s great
Fond family car memories are priceless. My family childhood care memories were always breakdowns on long trips and lots of cussing from my father
That’s funny
Just found this channel and I'am glad of it, I can tell your a good man, Teaching your son the right way so good to see. God Bless you and your family.
Thank you I appreciate it
At about Ralphis’s age my mom taught me to drive with three on the tree. A 1950 Chevy, that was 60 years ago. I miss my mother and that car, and the 54 she had. Happy New’s years
That’s great Happy New Year
You did a great job on the 42, grandpa was so proud to drive it again. Another great video.
My first drive with manual transmission was when i were 6 years old and i still remember it clearly:). The car was 1973 Audi B1 GT . Now i am 36. Ralphy got it so naturally- Awsome to see:). Happy New Year!
Happy New Year . Hopefully he will remember this as fun times
Yeah your right we will have to put him on a pillow or books or something
You just made lifetime memories with the boys. I like doing the rides with my grandkids in my old cars and trucks.
That’s great thank you
Ralphie drove that car better than I did when I was 17 and had a 6 speed shifter. God, he's a natural. lol
Also a very good camera man.
He is the best. Thanks for watching
Thank you Happy New Year
Many old car radios had a power converter because the tubes they used required much higher voltages than the 6 volt battery provided. Those converters made a buzzing sound when the radio was turned on. Not sure about the 42 Ford but it probably had that system.
Ok thank you
Hey man I love that you fix you grandpa ford wow for 16 years not driving but it drives now that's amazing and I love that you grandpa dry fit again
Yea it was awesome and glad he is driving it now we are gonna stay on him to drive it once a week
First picture show of the year ! Vantastic ! 👍👍
That’s right thank you
