I lost mine a year and half ago. We, coming from a typical Indian middle-class family, never had a 4-wheeler in the family. So when in Aug-2020 when I bought a new hatchback, right after first service of 500km, drove 350km to my hometown and surprised my father with it. I could see the pride in his eyes.
somebody complained about 3 hours worth of Mortske, but I'm loving it he's doing a good job of dealing with all the doodads and the whoop-dee-doos that you go through when you try to do something like this.
Thank you Sir! My dad's been gone two years now but he always had the same reaction when I did things for him. Very low key but behind that façade he couldn't have been more proud of me as I'm sure your dad is of you. Keep up the great work.
I could tell you were nervous about what your dad was going to think about the LS. Getting dads approval is what you always hope for. I spent my whole life looking for my fathers approval. He has been gone now for two years and I still hope he approves of the way I do things.
Sue, if you're not a boy you can rest assured your dad more than approved of you, and right at this very moment he's looking down with a huge smile of approval. Just know, and be happy.
Buick guy here, awesome skylark, my dad left me his 73 GS 455 all original 54K, we lost him in 2018 at 85 to cancer so this video was bittersweet to watch! Yer a good man Mortske!
Mortske I keep watching this video that you put out over a year ago!!! I just love the story and how neat your dad has everything setup as he tries to rebuild it until one of his sons takes it from him just to put a LS in it!!! Something completely different than he ever thought about having in it and then gets it all done just long enough for him to drive it around the block and then tell him he’s going to take it for a road trip!!! Lol!! Totally one of the best stories ever!!! I’ve watched this video 3 or 4 times now and I’m watching it again now!!!
“It only needs what it needs.” Those are words to live by. The idea of putting a 140k mile LS in anything without a rebuild sounded crazy to me, but now I get it. It lowers the cost of admission. When I was wrenching, I always wanted everything perfect and therefore I spent MUCH more time working than I did driving and smiling. Mortske has the right philosophy. It sounds simple, but the words are genius. Thanks Mortske! Also, phenomenal job. I can’t freakin believe you got all that work done between a 9 to 5 and two RUclips channels and still found time to sleep! You’re quite a guy!
Hey Mortske, I watched the entire video IN ONE SITTING . A story that is very important about you , your Dad and a favorite car of his as well as how much your Dad means to you. And that , Mortske , is GOLDEN !! And I really enjoyed all of it I believe your Dad is thrilled with this wonderful birthday gift you gave him. I am 68 and I've know men , had buddies , who are like your Dad . Men of few words . You know to look for other signs so as to gauge their emotions . "What the heck is that..an LS" ? ; "Holy Cow ; As you enumerated the components--- "you didn't have to go that far" , after sitting inside and starting it---" Very Nice" --"this took you awhile, didn't it"-- too loud for ya ?---"No"-- So happy belated birthday !!!-- "Very nice" . "So it's acceptable anyway" -- and the clincher "Oh it's a whole lot more than that" . He really likes the muscular , throaty sound . "3 inch is better as long as it all fits well underneath" . And the cherry on top--"This could be a really SWANKY (def: Imposingly fashionable and elegant) car once it's all polished up". He already is very impressed with the readout screen on the dash . Mortske , you hit it out of the park with this gift . You can be sure of that Bud !!! And in doing this you created and shared with us a memory that will always be there . Thank you for making and sharing this video with us , Mortske !!!!
Hey old long lost Brother, old Pal, old Friend of mine. I have a '66 2 door hardtop Skylark in as good of condition as your Dad's.. I'm 74, older than your Dad and would just love to have that pretty 300 that he has spent so much time on in my car. The 300 I have only has 87,000 on it, but it's not pretty....LOL.. I live in South Mississippi, when I saw that Clear Lake sign it made me think of pictures of my Dad building power lines in the snow in Clear Lake in 1947. I enjoyed your videos very much..
I love how all you guys make things work instead of just buying all new stuff and slap it on. Fabricating at its finest. Like Brent’s lazer welder cleans rust like I’ve never seen rust get cleaned before, ever…
@@ronrusling2113 Someone gonna do all of that work again? My biggest gripe is there are so many things changed, who's gonna remember what parts are on it? The guy is getting old and it would have been easier on him to keep it original.
You're a great son. Enjoyed the video. I've had the pleasure of working with my sons and daughter on car, boat and home construction projects. Those are the moments that count. I taught them and received knowledge in return too.
You did a great job. I used to argue with my dad quite often. He was just the opposite of your dad. He's been gone 3 years now and I never realized how much I would miss him. Enjoy him now while he's still around. He obviously knows his stuff. You'll look back on this build and be really happy you did it. Take care.
I think he was more impressed than he was showing. My dad is kinda the same way. That's an awesome birthday gift. Good job, Mort!! 😎👍 The Jeepster definitely needs some love, putting the Buick engine in it sounds like a really cool idea.
What an awesome birthday gift!! Great job on a not so simple swap. Seemed like every turn there were roadblocks and obstacles. Despite them, you kept your Happy Face on. You're getting better at that too! Duff looked like he was putting in some late hours with you on this one. But he sure did enjoy having his nose in the wind, even if you couldn't see in the sideview mirror. Can't get enough of the 60's GM's. Looking forward to the brake upgrade and seeing the old Skylark in future installments! Thanks for bringing us along.
My new favorite Mortske video! This is exactly what I want to do with a cool old car. Doing it for your dad is priceless. He loves it. My dad doesn't show much emotion either but you can tell. I got a whole week out of this one and will watch it again. Thanks Mortske! Lots of work went into the car and the video.
Just remember, one thing about help. Good help is hard to find and bad help is hard to get rid of. I enjoy what you do. Enjoy watching you do it keep up the good work
You explained that your dad is a low-key unexcitable kind of guy. Well his reactions to the job you did with his car seem to me that he was hugely pleased 👍 when I saw the video was 3 hours I almost didn't watch it but as it turned out from start to finish really was well worth the time and I thank you. It's good to see Duff dog keeping you in line 😂👍✌️🇺🇲
This is so cool of you to do this for your dad. Seeing your dad’s garage the apple didn’t fall to far from the tree did it. Saw you over at wes shop in your shake down… that’s kinda hella drive !!! What a sweet car .. everyone has a Chevelle so cool to see a Buick
Fantastic video and backstory! Lost my Dad several years ago, memories are always great and this video is a keepsake. Your usual narrative of the project made for a great viewer experience and your cleverness to adapt components absolutely shows with your choice of parts and modifications as required. 5 stars for the efforts and for surprising your Dad! Enjoy yourself at the show, you definitely earned the time off.
Your Dad is one very cool cat bro! My Pop's was a serious car guy like yours he always was tinkering with one used car after another. From Corvair's to Cadillacs i used to turn a few wrenches with him learned to love it too. I'm 62 now retired with 4x4's Jeep Unlimited 4.0 and FJ Cruiser .
Awesome birthday present for your dad! It's obvious that he instilled in you the love of wrenching on vehicles. What a legacy he has left. Good on ya Mortske!
I just finished watching the LS swap on your dad's Buick it's sweet mortske like you said he didn't show much emotion but I could tell he loved it your awesome man
Wow super cool bud. Your Dad should be super excited to have that. Fantastic fabrication and great job. Keep up the great work and I will keep on watching
The years have been good to this fabulous looking old Buick! What a very nice thing you did for your dad, he looked genuinely impressed. Your heart should be filled with pride knowing that you did something so nice for him. Good job! I hope this car continues to give future generations of your family the love that you and your dad have shown to it.
That was a nice birthday surprise. Based on how your dad does things, that car will be really solid after he goes through it.. When he was torquing the lug nuts, I feel like there is a story related to that where you forgot to tighten some up in the past. As usual you did a superb job of integrating and troubleshooting across years and different technologies.
That was very very cool....I know you have been saving that 6.0 Ls for something special and I think what you did with it may have been one of the most heartwarming gesture I could have imagined...As reserved as you father seems to be, I think he was very pleased and after you get done with your LS journey , he will get alot of enjoyment out of it...I hope he puts that 300 in the jeepster and thanks for sharing... might be one of my favorite videos
Well done Mortske, I think I saw a spark of joy in your Dad's eye when you mentioned the 23-24 mpg at 70mph. I could also tell the wheels of his mind we turning on the next things to do to the car.
He didn't show it but you could tell he was really happy about it! Great video!! I wish my dad was still around to do stuff with. Great job on the swap, looking forward to the next video!
A great episode and glad it was this long and detailed. Lost my father a couple of years ago and was great to see you do this for your dad and share it with us. Well done and keep up the great work and content.
put that Buick motor into the Jeepster that would be sweet , He put soo much work into that engine that you have to do something with it . I learned a lot watching you do this LS swap , that was one hell of a job , nicely done and that the car looks stock on the outside is the way to go
We need the brakes video! That was a LOT of work to do this and record/edit this whole thing. Thanks man. The length might be an issue for some, but I'd rather watch a project like this all at once. Besides, RUclips saves where you left off to watch it later.
Love this. Just so happens I'm doing a 65 buick special. It's got a mild built sbc. I was gonna do a 2dr conv but decided just to leave it and make a nice driver. You did a great job on that for sure. Your dad is a man of few words. Hope he enjoys it
Awesome project you did for the old man. Really enjoyed the extended length content. Gets me through the daily grind called life. Even though he may be expressionless you could see a little excitement out of him. In his own little way. I'm sure just having his fathers car back on the road meant alot period, regardless of the engine. Especially like the "I'm sure this took you awhile". Lol. I'm sure he knows you busted your butt to get it done for him.
Normally I identify with Duff in these comments. However. In this instance - this is a total labour of love. For your Dad. He’s so totally chuffed. It’s so very clear. What a huge achievement Mortske. & a grand pleasure to come along for the emotional ride. Cecil B DeMille, David Lean, Stanley Kubrick. & now Mortske & Chin productions. Better & more enjoyable content. Than most feature films. Duff & I bow our heads in humbleness. & how about ‘Mojo Tough’. 🙌🇳🇿
A great vid for sure. Gave a guy the warm fuzzies when you got it home to your Dads and your initial 'tension' evaporated when you got the physic 'thumbs up' from him! Top job Mortske. There's something to be said about dem LS's fer sure. Great that your family are hotrodders, so anything goes. Buick into that 'A' roadster sounds a good idea. Make a great co-lab vid with your Dad. His dry humour a great foil to your exuberance! I have a set of Buick/Olds 215 alloy V8 headers here which are a dead ringer for the 300 ones ( the one off on the table near identical). Maybe only port sizes smaller. Hope you enjoy the trip. Another good video we hope. How about "Built Mojo tough" for a logo idea?
Man, 3 hours of Mortske, flipping legend 🤙🏻. I'm so impressed with that holley system, seen a few builds and it just works so well. Glad your pops liked it, could really see the emotions 🤣🤣🤣🤣. The car came out really nice, well done. Now how about finishing your own LS 🤷🏻♂️🤣
You gotta be impressed by the hookers hanging off them heads n the job Mortske dun on what I would consider a family treasure. William has pipes (Hookers) pushing exhaust beautifully to it's rear corners.💯😁
Awww, what a good son! And thanks for showing the ripped off fingernail...brought back "wonderful" memories and sent chills down my spine. Been there, done that. Ugh.
I have watched this video like at least 4 times and I love it very much it is labor day this weekend and it was a year ago when you did the video but it is awesome and don't get bored watching it over again great job Mortske
I had a 69 LeSabre. Pretty much the same specs as Lillian. I paid $50 for it from the original owner in 87 with a bad water pump and 60k on the odometer. It's still one of my favorite cars. Love these builds, they bring back so many memories!
That's a pretty special accomplishment and a great gesture for your dad. Well worth the time spent watching over the course of a week from my end. Good on ya, Brother.
My 1st car was a 64 Skylark with blown head gaskets. Dad gave it to me on a Monday in 1976, the deal was if I could have it running by Friday I could keep it, if not I was to scrap it and I could keep what they gave for it. I had that car for 3 years. Mine was the same color blue as yours but mine was a 2 door with a 310 Wildcat motor.
Very cool you can do this for your Dad. My Dad was a fighter pilot and 'gave all' in 1966. I many times wonder what life would have been like for me had he lived. He was also a major gear head! Congrats on a job very well done!
I'd love to watch this but three hours get real
I'll stick to the 15 minute LS swaps from here on out.
you know you can watch it in segments.
It was worth every hour... especially the payoff at the end... just watch it like a mini series.. lol
He could have been greedy and split it into 10 uploads like alot on RUclips, great upload enjoyed it
It's just one of the cleanest, well thought out revivals on u tube.👍👍
Id say he defiantly loved it. Very cool. Torque the lugnuts is the stamp of approval, cause hes just ready to drive it til the wheels fall off.
Puddin you need to help mortske out with the LS swap he might be doing scetchie stuff and I seen your LS swap skills so help your buddy out!
my grandpa did the same thing with the lugs when my dad fixed his travelall for him i guess its a sign of approval from any older car guy.
Defiantly? He started an epic battle with Mortske before he broke down and liked it? Oklahomaonics...sheesh
yeah but he had a sweet build going on that 300. that thing was mint.
@@Hobodeluxe960 I woulds display the original engine on a stand next to where the cars parked with a pic of everyone thats owned it

Dad things!
That's amazing. Love what you've done for your father.
That's so cool to be able to do that for your pop! Thank's for shairing.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome swap! You did your dad proud! His reaction was priceless.
He didn't show it but you could tell he was really happy about it! Great video!! I wish my dad was still around to do stuff with. Great job on the swap, looking forward to the next video!
Your pop is like most people from the attention to detail era. straight shooter no bs .
A great episode and glad it was this long and detailed. Lost my father a couple of years ago and was great to see you do this for your dad and share it with us. Well done and keep up the great work and content.
Thanks David!
put that Buick motor into the Jeepster that would be sweet , He put soo much work into that engine that you have to do something with it . I learned a lot watching you do this LS swap , that was one hell of a job , nicely done and that the car looks stock on the outside is the way to go
Thanks Doug!
Them wheels next to the Buick ft fender flair looks sick man. So clean
We need the brakes video! That was a LOT of work to do this and record/edit this whole thing. Thanks man.
The length might be an issue for some, but I'd rather watch a project like this all at once. Besides, RUclips saves where you left off to watch it later.
Glad you appreciate it matt!
Love this. Just so happens I'm doing a 65 buick special. It's got a mild built sbc. I was gonna do a 2dr conv but decided just to leave it and make a nice driver. You did a great job on that for sure. Your dad is a man of few words. Hope he enjoys it
Awesome!
Sweet 65 Buick special 300
Really nice of you to do that for your father. Lots of love to you all
Thanks so much
Awesome project you did for the old man.
Awesome thing you did for your dad. Great video like always. Appreciate all you do for us viewers. I know it must be a pain in the ass.
Thanks Bryan, it's got its days!
It’s awesome that it still has the glass windshield washer bottle. Very cool. Most have been shattered long ago.
awesome job! loved this! ❤️ Such a cool thing to do for your Dad!
Time for a coffee feet up and enjoy this
Don't forget the mandatory pinch and roll!
When I had a job,I'm retired ,we would say strong like bull, smart like streetcar 🚊. You've gone above and beyond, this is a nice gift for your dad!
Thanks Brian
Normally I identify with Duff in these comments. However. In this instance - this is a total labour of love. For your Dad. He’s so totally chuffed. It’s so very clear.
What a huge achievement Mortske.
& a grand pleasure to come along for the emotional ride.
Cecil B DeMille, David Lean, Stanley Kubrick. & now Mortske & Chin productions.
Better & more enjoyable content. Than most feature films.
Duff & I bow our heads in humbleness.
& how about ‘Mojo Tough’. 🙌🇳🇿
Much appreciated!
I like it!
Mojo dabbed stronger than a brick shit house lol
That's supposed to say mojo fabbed ^
One of your Best Thank you very good
Thanks Eric!
Man that’s so awesome be lucky to still have your dad, i guarantee he loves it , who wouldn’t, great job man
Man, 3 hours of Mortske, flipping legend 🤙🏻. I'm so impressed with that holley system, seen a few builds and it just works so well. Glad your pops liked it, could really see the emotions 🤣🤣🤣🤣. The car came out really nice, well done. Now how about finishing your own LS 🤷🏻♂️🤣
It really has been great. I'll get on mine one day
You gotta be impressed by the hookers hanging off them heads n the job Mortske dun on what I would consider a family treasure.
Wow, thank you!
@@MortskeRepair ur welcome Rocky from Massachusetts
I'm not crying YOU'RE crying! What a tremendous job, and a great surprise for his birthday.
🗿 I'm not crying,, your crying..😀 awesome video 👍👍
I had a 69 LeSabre. Pretty much the same specs as Lillian. I paid $50 for it from the original owner in 87 with a bad water pump and 60k on the odometer. It's still one of my favorite cars. Love these builds, they bring back so many memories!
Nice!
@mortskerepair , Luv This Video About You You Getting Your Dad's Car Up and Running Really Well, It's Also Emotional, Hits My Heart Nicely.
Love the connector kit. Definitely something I will invest in
You should!
That's a pretty special accomplishment and a great gesture for your dad. Well worth the time spent watching over the course of a week from my end. Good on ya, Brother.
Absolutely
@@MortskeRepair then you immediately borrowed it for LS Fest which showed him you think grampa's rig is road trip worthy. Excellent!
Sweet first car👍
Very cool you can do this for your Dad. My Dad was a fighter pilot and 'gave all' in 1966. I many times wonder what life would have been like for me had he lived. He was also a major gear head! Congrats on a job very well done!
Thanks much.
I don't usually watch 3 hour videos but I watched this from beginning to end! Very nice job on your Dad's car!
Awesome! Thank you!
👍👍
Good job Mortske, very nice gift
Thanks john
You know your Dad was diggin' on that. Outstanding.
You are the best content on the interweb Mortske and the amazing Duff Dog. God bless. Thank you.
Wow, thank you so much!! Same to you!
Awesome LS swap looks like factory install.
