I agree. First thing I noticed when it was test driven. Building a dually tow rig with street rod mirrors is by far the dumbest decision and done purely or aesthetics.

I had a 2014 Ram 3500HD with the 6.7 Cummins with the Aisin 6 speed automatic, crew cab, long bed, and it was single rear tire. It was a 9300 lb truck with me in it, and I towed a 36' flatbed gooseneck trailer in it. I was EXTREMELY hard on that truck as I used it to haul equipment in the oilfield with it in the West Virginia/Pennsylvania/Ohio tri-state area, so it got beaten up on the hills and mountains. I put 195,000 miles on it in a year and a half and the only real issues I had was when reverse went out in the transmission, and I shattered the front diff in 4WD low trying to rock the truck and trailer out of a mud pit that I accidentally sank into on a dirt road in the Allegheny Forest. Those were both repaired under warranty though. I really loved that truck. It hauled over 35,000 lbs for hours long trips on many occasions without a single issue. It gained alot of respect from me. I never even had the change the batteries.

The thing is most people will say that video is too long, but I assure you just start watching you will never know how the time passed... That's how much the information flows and easy to know what they are talking about... I am not a mechanic but it still interests me...
I enjoyed the video , lot of useful information. I remember reading a article in a magazine about the introduction of the 5.9 cummins to a Dodge and I told my Dad back then , he bought one I. Decatur in a couple days . I had no idea who did the first prototype. As for the brakes I got a 95 4x4 I doing the 3rd generation front brakes with a 2001 front axle . Your right about the chev rear wheel cylinders. I did the hydrobooster system and it helped braking . You might at some point consider a exhaust brake. Also give the engine some timing say 17 or 18 deg . That helped my 95 get a lot better mileage.. As far as towing may be installed a set of air bags on the rear also. I installed a g56 in my truck and replaced a burned up 47rh. Don't regret that a bit .. Your build is really nice a lot of talent went into this .
I literally just did 80% of that drive with my wife recently. You guys did a great job capturing the essence of the trip. We loved it. As a GTI owner (mark 7), that was great to see an OG being awesome like that. Well done guys, look forward to the next one!
Super awesome details and wisdom that I will always go back to so 3 hours 3 comments it looks but every day every day driving quick breaking transition ease of use for every day that's the work horse. Is it easy does it brake with ease does things lock up is the proportioning valve on the money.Having a welder on board or some type of tool box also you can go bigger wipers.A tablet in the middle console why not or the bottom half. Love the show and seeing you guys still there going strong you are the right guys for the job.
Long ago, I bought a used 1968 Pontiac StratoChief, a plain brown 4 dr sedan with a bench seat, stunningly having been equipped with a 325 HP chevy 396, backed with a Muncie M21 4-speed manual! Best sleeper ever!
I've swapped pickup bodies from different years and different makes a number of times. One thing I disagree with is how they started at the rear by installing the box and then they had to deal with fine tuning the axle and fender opening locations at the front. It is much easier to shift the rear axle location than to shift the front wheel locations so I always started at the front and finished off by adjusting the rear axle location at the end. Edit: Wow, that turned into a HUGE job (I wrote the above after watching about 30 minutes). The attention to detail and finished product is impressive! Around here older 2wd trucks are almost worthless, so what I've done is buy a freshly painted 2wd pickup and swapped the body to a 4wd. None of my swaps have required anywhere near this level of customization.
I bought a new Ford in 78 that had the rectangle head lights. This was a Ranger model with two tone paint. A buddy bought a basic Custom model which came with the round lights. In 79 they all had rectangular lights.
I laughed when they said something about this being a "budget build" . The amount of work, precision, and all of the details is amazing. Great job and beautiful finish.
It's just so cool to witness how far we have come in the auto world of custom builds and taking what our minds build and turning it into real life work of pure genius and giving vehicles another chance to ride the roads they were born built to ride, if only they could talk, smile or brag , I know we would hear so many cool stories straight from them, of the times they all had with different owners and doing different times of there life, ...
It isn’t working out well after this many years lol. I currently own the truck and it needs some TLC but the bones are still there. Also not sure why they patched together the bed the way they did it’s not holding up well but still a super cool truck!

I liked the preparation so fabulous. When you put the contact on the temperature needle exceeds 50% it will be normal I suppose because of the displacement. Enjoy! Incredible work. 👍💪☕
I was looking for this episode a year or two ago. I have a 24 valve dually. Every body panel is beat but the frame is rust free and the 5.9 Cummins is stock and runs great. I’m going to start looking for a dent side.
you should post videos on your progress if you do something like this. i think the key here is to find a cab that fits (well) and flat bed it or something so you really only need to worry about the front wheels falling into the wheel wells.
Do what my wife and I did. Build one like it, with your vision of an end result. 95 Ram 3500 donor vehicle, and a an OBS K 2t00, 92 extended cab gas model. Built our ultimate tow rig, for our shop. Lost the right one, a week after we got the chasis back from powder coating, and the engine and trans back from the machine shop. Wife worked from the top down, I got the bottom, with the service dog supervising. From the office, of course. They don't male N 95 masks for pets. Was finished this spring.. I still, after two amputations, don't think of myself as disabled. That's a state of mind, and a person's level of determination to get back to a normal life. It's lead me to one conclusion. The pnly thing that will ever stop me Is Me. And why I say this to you now. Who's stopping You? Go out, and pick up some yard art, and a marketplace wreck, and build what you want.
Can't believe how good of shape that 97 Dodge was. Here in Ontario Canada you will never find one that clean They're not even that clean after the 1st Winter.

Bought a '79 f100 with a perkins in it, straight off the showroom floor, in Perth, Western Australia. 30+ mpg from brand new. Towed a 22 ft caravan ( mobile home) back to Brisbane, about 3 yrs later( just run in) ,still around 31 mpg. Fantastic tourer.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

That thing is crazy!! I can imagine the labor hours on that so called "Frankenstein " you built. My question is who was the disturbed individual who wanted to create this monster. I'm far from bashing it ,just who thought about doing this and how much research went into this project. I've turned two cars into one to save myself an early demise because my buddy and me took the old man's cutlass out to joy ride and wrecked it 3 days before the old man was due back in town. Needless to say having friend who ran a junkyard who just got a cutlass from Texas with the backend in the backseat with a mint front clip and everything else we needed saved us from early deaths also thankfully the old man had a body shop. Anyway, I really liked the creation and the updates. I like the show and the projects .
Trucks! / G & G, having watched many of your cool truck projects, I can easily say that I think this one is the overall best, coolest looking and best functioning truck you have EVER done. No doubt you will thoroughly enjoy driving it for the show, showing it off and telling people about it and hauling a lot of American Iron cool projects with it. I would gladly own, drive and take care of that truck...it is the Mack Daddy daily driver and tow rig diesel truck, hands down. Well done guys!
I'm a Dodge guy, but I would have used the Cummins power train and picked up a Ford F250/350 chassis. The Ford chassis ride and handle better than the Dodge.

In comparison to muscle car resto mods or vinntage pick up resto mods, this is a unique, definitely interesting, episode. Thanks for doing this. Appreciate the Alabama recycling facility review, the Cummins motor engine swap, the body removol install, 5 speed manual selection, and so many other changes including the interior dash work. .
Years ago i had a 2.8 V-6 Blazer that leaked oil from the rear-main seal. It didn't leave an ocean, but it would leave a good quarter sized spot after several hours. One time at a gas station, I noticed a bottle of oil additive that was designed to stop leaking seals and gaskets just by pouring in the can. I thought to myself, "this is probably too good to be true, but for a few bucks, I'll give it a shot anyway..". I dumped the can in, drove 40 miles home, and parked it in the usual spot in my driveway for 2 days to let whatever remaining oil that was all over everywhere on the bottom of the truck to have a chance to all drip off. After the 2 days, I slid a piece of cardboard under the vehicle and checked it a day later, and I'll be damned, it NO longer was leaking oil!! The stuff ACTUALLY worked! I cant quite 100% remember the actual name of the product, but I'm fairly certain that it was a "Barr's" product like what was mentioned in the video. I'm not so sure how it would work for things like leaky cork valve cover gaskets and such, but it worked damn good for the rubber rear-main seal. I was completely surprised. It didn't just slow the leak, it STOPPED it completely. No more smoke, no more stink of burning oil on the exhaust, and no more checking and adding oil every few weeks. Give it a shot if you're leaking oil, the worst that could happen is that it doesn't work. It won't make any problems worse. I believe there's even a money-back guarantee if for some reason the product does not work. 👌
Re: Leaking Rear Main Seal Don't use additives to attempt to fix oil leaks. It will soften ALL of the seals and you will likely CREATE new leaks...... Can I get a witness? (Based on my experience as an ASE Cert mechanic)

Will always have memories of 840. It probably still sucks to drive during rush hour but its a really chill road to cruise on.

Nice, did a #Dentside on a 99-04 ford lightning 2nd gen. Since mine is pre-emission registered it 5 year plates really cheap.

I'm using a 2001 rear end out of a Dodge ram 1500 four-wheel drive putting it into a two-wheel drive 98 Dodge ram 1500 is there a difference

Bought a '79 f100 with a perkins in it, straight off the showroom floor, in Perth, Western Australia. 30+ mpg from brand new. Towed a 22 ft caravan ( mobile home) back to Brisbane, about 3 yrs later( just run in) ,still around 31 mpg. Fantastic tourer.😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

That thing is crazy!! I can imagine the labor hours on that so called "Frankenstein " you built. My question is who was the disturbed individual who wanted to create this monster. I'm far from bashing it ,just who thought about doing this and how much research went into this project. I've turned two cars into one to save myself an early demise because my buddy and me took the old man's cutlass out to joy ride and wrecked it 3 days before the old man was due back in town. Needless to say having friend who ran a junkyard who just got a cutlass from Texas with the backend in the backseat with a mint front clip and everything else we needed saved us from early deaths also thankfully the old man had a body shop. Anyway, I really liked the creation and the updates. I like the show and the projects .
Trucks! / G & G, having watched many of your cool truck projects, I can easily say that I think this one is the overall best, coolest looking and best functioning truck you have EVER done. No doubt you will thoroughly enjoy driving it for the show, showing it off and telling people about it and hauling a lot of American Iron cool projects with it. I would gladly own, drive and take care of that truck...it is the Mack Daddy daily driver and tow rig diesel truck, hands down. Well done guys!

I'm a Dodge guy, but I would have used the Cummins power train and picked up a Ford F250/350 chassis. The Ford chassis ride and handle better than the Dodge.

Years ago i had a 2.8 V-6 Blazer that leaked oil from the rear-main seal. It didn't leave an ocean, but it would leave a good quarter sized spot after several hours.
One time at a gas station, I noticed a bottle of oil additive that was designed to stop leaking seals and gaskets just by pouring in the can. I thought to myself, "this is probably too good to be true, but for a few bucks, I'll give it a shot anyway..".
I dumped the can in, drove 40 miles home, and parked it in the usual spot in my driveway for 2 days to let whatever remaining oil that was all over everywhere on the bottom of the truck to have a chance to all drip off.
After the 2 days, I slid a piece of cardboard under the vehicle and checked it a day later, and I'll be damned, it NO longer was leaking oil!! The stuff ACTUALLY worked!
I cant quite 100% remember the actual name of the product, but I'm fairly certain that it was a "Barr's" product like what was mentioned in the video.
I'm not so sure how it would work for things like leaky cork valve cover gaskets and such, but it worked damn good for the rubber rear-main seal. I was completely surprised. It didn't just slow the leak, it STOPPED it completely. No more smoke, no more stink of burning oil on the exhaust, and no more checking and adding oil every few weeks.
Give it a shot if you're leaking oil, the worst that could happen is that it doesn't work. It won't make any problems worse. I believe there's even a money-back guarantee if for some reason the product does not work. 👌

Re: Leaking Rear Main Seal Don't use additives to attempt to fix oil leaks. It will soften ALL of the seals and you will likely CREATE new leaks...... Can I get a witness? (Based on my experience as an ASE Cert mechanic)

78 and 79 Ford F 150 -F250 and F350 hands down one of the best looking trucks built.
Had a 78 and 79 f150 and a 79 Bronco. Liked my 86 F250 better.
I actually think it looked better in the black primer . Cool truck though!!
