The symbol for Haven is a lamp and the relic was also a lamp!! If this continues then Atlas will have a paintbrush for creation, Vacuole will have a sword for destruction, and I guess Vale will have duel axes for choice (maybe one axe for evil and one axe for good and then one must choose?). Never really considered this but it seems so obvious now!!
when taking the characters from which the RWBY cast is based on into consideration, there is another interesting connection. At the end of the episode, the one to hold the relic of knowledge was Qrow. Qrow is (in part) based on the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz. The scarecrow wished that he had a brain. The scarecrow now finally has the brain he wished for...
What I think the relics we be: Creation: A pen, paint brush, etc. An artist used these things to create, and it would prove that the pen is mightier than the sword. Destruction: A lighter or torch. This would signify the creation of flame, one of, if not, humans most destructive weapons. Choice: A pan flute or an ochorina. Songs are known to inspire, and change. Maybe a song on the Relic of Choice can sway people too.
I'd honestly say it seems to be like the Genie's lanp from 1,001 Arabian nights. While it doesn't grant wishes, it probably answers questions and that mumbling voice is the "Genie". And I wouldn't be surprised if the lamp only answers 3 questions.
I like your theory. Rwby after all is based on story-tales so having the lamp be from 1,001 Arabian nights makes sense! And Rwby also likes to mix together or mix up mythos so i think your on to something there. maybe you should start your own Rwby theories channel. While i find most these videos here entertaining i dont feel much accuracy is in them.
I was thinking the same because of the most if not all of the people in rwby are based off of story or Legends the for the relics could be mystical items from very old storys
The "whispers" coming from the lamp as well as it's shape and blue color make me think of a will-o-wisp from Celtic myth they were spirits who would lure you into the forest and your death with promises of KNOWLEDGE of your own furture
I thought it looked like a Lantern Power Battery. I doubt DC comics provided the inspiration but still its a fun thought. YANG XIAO LONG OF REMNANT. YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO OVERCOME GREAT IGNORENCE. WELCOME TO THE SPRING MAIDEN CORPS.
Cameron Grow In darkest day, in blackest night. No evil shall escape the fight. For those who worship evils blight, beware my power, YANG SHOU LONG’S MIGHT!!!
Cameron Grow in Knowledges light and ignorances dark no dumbass will escape my sight, for all those who follow cinders light, Beware Yang's Power! PREPARE FOR A FIST FIGHT! Wekcome to the Spring Maiden Corps... is it sad that id like to see this in Chibi. Nah
The lamp, as I see it, is a symbol for enlightenment. When you shine a lamp in a dark room, it's appearance is revealed to you. Lamps run on fire, something than harms and helps the user and target, just as knowledge does. I like how the reveal of the relic of knowledge in the show makes you want to know more about it.
I was just gonna say I'm with the belief that the artifacts are a part of the two brothers that Qrow illustrated to RNJR is season 4. So for example, this relic of knowledge could be the heart of one of the brothers.
Might be my mind but the sound to me sounds like "help me" over and over so Ozpin has mass knowledge right? What if it's his past hosts / souls also Atlas may have a relic of creation which takes a form of a staff to hang a..lamp from think you need knowledge to know what your making
Great video, Eruption! Another piece of information to consider are the emblems for each of the four Kingdoms. The Relic of Knowledge, located in Mistral looks like a lantern/lamp, and if you look at the Mistral/Haven Academy emblem, it looks like a lantern with a flame inside it. Not much can be said about it's origin or inspiration, but perhaps we can understand the physical forms of the other relics from their Kingdom emblems as well. Atlas - Torch/Paintbrush, Vacuo - Swords, Vale - Axes.
I've heard from somewhere that it could represent enlightenment and the sounds it was making seems like whispering, maybe whispering forbidden knowledge.
Maybe it’s the Olympic Torch? Specifically the FLAME. Said to be the flame of the gods stollen from Zeus by Prometheus. That gave man the power to create. If so do you see a pattern? Prometheus SUFFERED for giving man the power to create. Also Doigenes preached being outside one’s society at a time when people were DEFINED by their society, he also looked on poverty as inextricable FROM the philosopher. Though a bit of a stretch you COULD say that he SUFFERED for his knowledge. Let’s also take a look at what happens to Raven, the person who opens the vault to the relic, and Yang who retrieves the vault to the relic. They both obtain knowledge, but neither of them is happier for it. Raven learns that having the Relic will only make Salem come after her more, and that she’s not as emotional strong as she thought. This knowledge does NOT make her happy. Yang learns that the mother she was chasing after all this time is someone who was willing to risk her [Yang’s] life on the OFF chance that it would provide her [Raven] safety. This knowledge does not make Yang happy either. To quote a line from Law & Order, “The truth will set you free, it won’t always make you happy.” This seems VERY applicable here.
Khalid Henry that's sad... so true and unfortunately he did so much for the show that even years later they cannot replace him.. the show still rocks tho
"Perhaps victory is in the simpler things that you've long forgotten. Something that requires a smaller; more honest soul." -Ozpin in RWBY volume 1 episode 1
Since you mentioned Egypt the first thing that came to my mind was the Great Library of Alexandria. The library was the greatest bastion of recorded knowledge in the old world before it was destroyed, so it would make make a sensible comparison.
I find it interesting that while the temple that housed the actual relic of spring had growth on it- like you would see in spring- but within the temple, it was barren like a desert. That's definitely significant, and I'm pretty sure that's exactly what is aligned with your theory. They meant to draw attention to the setting so we could theorize about the myth behind the relic.
Diogenes was looking for an honest man - i.e. a simple soul, i.e. Ruby? I hear heartbeat sounds coming from the lamp, so it might relate to the life theory?
Alright here we go pure speculation and first thing to come to mind. Lamp=yang because shining light Shroud=Blake because covered in shadows Scythe=ruby because well scythes Mirror=Weiss because split into two personas.
It's interesting Yang picked up the relic if it IS related to Diogenes because she's set up as being one of two characters who may be capable of questioning Ozpin's virtue. The other of course being Jaune.
The relic at Mistal looks similar to the logo of the Kingdom. Because of this I believe that the flags of the kingdoms are based on the relic they hold. That's just my idea.
I think the noises were like whispers. If the "Knowledge" part were to truly refer to knowledge, truth and whatnot, then maybe it could be like secrets or truth being softly spoken to whomever holds them. And if so, I think that might explain Yang and Qrow's respective reactions to holding it -- Yang was hearing a truth about Raven, maybe getting her hopes dashed thus why she cried. Then Qrow heard that Raven's a maiden and why they need to head to Atlas, thus his sad sigh.
Yeah, that is true. When you think about it, his saying that he's "looking for an honest man" implies that all of the people he's talking to are not it. He's looking, because the people right there around him aren't honest in some way or another, or at least, he doesn't see them like that.
If you're right about it being a connection to that Greek philosopher, it makes sense that Yang picks it up, because she's kind of been looking for the truth and trying to figure out who is truthful along the way in season 5
I think you missed some spots there. 1. Knowledge is often referred to as light. So the object that represent Knowledge being a lamp makes sense. 2. Related or not, Salem's character seem to be inspired by the Genie (A fire opel ring, fire lit room, her power to grant people what they wish, etc...). So a lamp may be a way to restrain her.
I've seen some speculation about the relics looking like the emblems of each of the kingdoms. Mistral's emblem kinda looks like a lamp. I also had a discussion with a friend a few weeks ago that Destruction could be a sword, Creation a pen or paintbrush, and Choice a coin. Some people have said that Atlas's emblem looks a bit like a paintbrush and it would make sense for Atlas to house Creation because of all of their advancements in dust and robotics. I also remember someone saying that there is a Chinese legend about some sort of paintbrush of creation. Of course, this theory would be debunked instantly if we find out that Atlas doesn't house Creation
It could represent life since the noice seems like a mixture of heartbeat and some kind of wispers, or it just reperesent knowledge (enlightmant) , the lantern shines knowledge in the dark environment in which you are lost kinda of thing ,if that makes sense.
You forgot about one thing, maybe the lamp could be an inspiration of the Genies lamp from Aladdin, because the inside of the vault a desert. Agrabah takes place in the desert and the Lamp of Knowledge could have a genie inside it, I believe the Lamp of Knowledge could have someone inside, who could be an inspiration of the Genie.
I really think that the relic can make you see the past, like you can know what happened if you want to know the truth, Ruby could see Summer's death by example
I wouldn't confine the lamp's inspiration to be from Egyptian. The desert setting and even lamp color and styling are all evocative of the greater Middle-East and Northern Africa.
i think, that what the guy in the video was alluding to with Egypt was the lost library of Alexandria the once great library and biggest collection of knowledge in the world
I think the Lamp may only be a vessel. The Relic of Knowledge is really the light inside the lamp. The light illuminates a person, giving them knowledge and wisdom that may even include the ability to see into the past and future. I also believe that knowledge will also come at the cost of blindness. Similar to how Odin sacrificed an eye to gain his wisdom, and how some oracles were blinded, the Relic will blinds whoever uses it, but that blindness will be compensated with such great knowledge, you won’t need to see anything.
I have a theory that I don't have a real basis for, but I am curious about. If they decided to kill off Cinder, looking at Emerald's reaction from the finale, could it be possible that she becomes the next Fall maiden? This would only be if Cinder is actually dead of course, which isn't likely, but it could be something interesting to explore.
Personally I'm thinking that Oz doesn't have all the information regarding the relics. My thought is that the four aspects have distinct pairing (creation/distraction and choice/knowledge or creation/knowledge and distraction/choice) and have to be used by two people working in tandem in order to work. Which would fit with the idea of the two deities working together to create humanity.
I've begun to theorize that the relic if choice might have something to do with the moon based on this relic was found in a room with crumbling platforms...kinda like what the moon looks like...I dont know what this would mean (if it means something all), but perhaps it's foreshadowing
If the lamp does represent life, this would explain why Salem would want to destroy it. If it has ties to ozpin it could be the past souls of his hosts.
My question is why isn't the spring maiden's relic of creation. I mean really think about it. Spring is when everything comes alive. If any maiden should have knowledge its the Winter Maiden. She had gone thru the more then other maidens. Spring (creation), Summer (choice), Fall ( destruction) then Winter (knowledge). You only gain knowledge thru experience. That's just me. I have a theory that Qrow and Ozpin are the two brothers reincarnated just like the maidens.
Someone pointed out that Haven's Symbol looks like a lamp. Based off that and knowing that Vale hold the relic of choice, Atlas with the paintbrush could creation and Vaccuo with the Sword could be destruction. Choice could be the laurels or wreath around the axes but not sure how that is choice.
KemarRaijin that makes sO MUCH SENSE You're probably right; Imma steal that theory 😅 (I used to think the Atlas symbol was a torch, but paintbrush makes so much more sense!)
I bet, following this theory, that the Choice relic is the two axes themselves - maybe one for the "light side" or humanity's god and one for the "dark side" or Grimm god.
1. Relic has connection to Mistral symbol. 2. If Relics are not objects of power in themselves, they may be pillars of intelligent life. If they were destroyed all people would die. They just may be supporting the Life itself. 3. If they are objects of power, I'd guess Lamp gives user all the knowledge about Remnant world. (physics, how magic works, why are we here, how mind works, other dimensions etc.) How do you think: what other Relic would do? 4. If they are objects of power, why Ozpin did not use them against Salem?
It might be possible that Ozpin did use them at one point. Ozpin told Oscar he FOUNDED Haven academy. All four academies were founded at the same time by the last King of Vale at the end of the Great War 80 years ago. The last battle has conflicting stories, but the fact of the matter is that after the King of Vale marched onto the battle field with only his Sword, Crown, and Scepter, the battle ended with the other three kingdoms bowing down before him. Sword could (possibly) be relic of destruction, Crown the relic of choice (maybe), and the Scepter is Ozpin's nostalgic cane that he can't do away with. Just a thought.
I really want the relics to be energy containment units for the powers of Salem's equivalent of 4 maidens, her 4 'horsemen' if you will, I think that would be a really cool twist.
I think I have a theory on why salem is how she is, in the beginning, we're told that the grimm were made to destroy the light gods creations, namely all things in nature, but the grimm were made before humanity in order to carry that out, after a fight, the brother gods made up and created humanity, but what if humanity wasn't on the meal list? they had part of the dark god in them too, so what if they only destroyed nature and mostly ignored mankind? problem is, without nature man can't survive, what if salem made herself the queen of the grimm and ordered them to feed on the light in mankind's souls? that would allow nature to survive, and if man could defend themselves from the grimm then both could exist in a warped harmony. But then we get into ozpin and the gods, what if they had another solution, something riskier? the dark god wouldn't want the grimm dead and gone, but the light god would, and oz would have to appease both. Salems plan solves that, but humanity is on the chopping block, which both gods would hate, the relics can't fix things or ozpin would've used them already, so that means we have 2 unsatisfied gods and a possibly genocidal compromise. In the beginning dust wasn't even a thing and its not like Salem can't command the grimm entirely per say, if that were true cinder wouldn't have needed to upset the citizens of vale in order to attract them so mankind was on the ropes, which, again, pissed of both gods. It most likely, ended up with salem pushing humanity to the edge and the gods yelling at oz "do something about this!" now oz has to defend humanity, which he has done, but that begs some questions, why does salem hate oz so much and try to destroy him? why did the gods want to stop salem if there was a chance she might be right? well, at the time, salems plan most likely would have meant the end of man, and after that the grimm would have gone back destroying nature, meaning it was a quick fix at best and they may have had a better idea. Again, this is a theory, now why does salem want to eradicate man kind? or more specifically ozpin? (her inner court is made up of humans and a faunus, plus she doesn't seem to hold any malice towards them). If I had to guess, he did something she didn't like, remember even if she supports the grimm this compromise works for her, as the show has stated that grimm in captivity, that is grimm that don't feed of the light in a persons soul or the light of the light god, die under unknown circumstances, as if without access to man as a food supply or something man possesses, they die. Though I don't think thats the case as she doesn't mind letting her inner court kill as many grimm as they need to either train or vent some steam as tyrian and cinder did. so, I'd have to assume it was something to do with the silver eyed warriors, my guess is that the original warriors were descendants of salems daughters or sons. Gods have a tough time putting down grudges and usually do not mind punishing the children of the mortals who anger them, the Minotaur was the son of a king who angered Poseidon and decided to curse him by transforming his son into the Minotaur, so I'd guess the same thing applies here. The gods probably said "lets see how she likes having her kids on the chopping block! a la grimm!" and gave her descendants the power to kill the grimm far more easily than ordinary humans. She might hate oz for probably using them to push back the grimm in the early days of mankind, which lead to their near extinction. There's probably more than that, but thats all I can think of off the top of my head. I do still think a more compelling reason to hate oz needs to be there, and I also recognize there needs to be a reason why salem wants the relics. I suppose it would be to change something? wiping out man seems like the first guess but thats too easy....bring back her loved ones? but oz is sacrificing lives here so its gotta be more than that, something that threatens the world but isn't the death of man.
I personally support unicorn of wars theory. Each of the symbols for the academy relate to their relic. Havens is a lamp, atlas is a paintbrush, Shade is a sword, and beacons is either a axe, or something relating to the wreath around the two axes.
I really like this idea. Scales came to my mind too when thinking about Choice. Have they established what the relics even do? Like, they said what they represent, and that it'll be bad if Salem acquires all four of them; but, what will she do with them or to them if she does? Does she destroy the world by using the relics or by destroying the relics? Does each relic have a special power tied to the concept each represents? I'd like to see them expand on that in the next volume. Hopefully it means they can use this lamp to acquire knowledge. Maybe the "heartbeat" we heard from the lamp means that there is a sentience tied to the lamp that is the source of knowledge.
When I saw the relic of knowledge it reminded me of the Fountain of Hui from Xiaolin Showdown with a combination of the Sun Chi Lantern and the Sphere of Yun. A powerful device that possessed the power to elevate one's self to a level of knowledge so great they obtained enlightenment.
XELI In all honesty, I never heard of her in history. And I guessed ive missed it in the movie back to the future but it does make sense in a way but I can't grasp it yet
So I have a theory about the lamp I think that who ever holds it will get knowledge from the lamp. For example when Yang picked it up the lamp could've shown her that Raven only cares for herself, like if the lamp has any mental connection to the person who is holding the lamp. I think how it would work is that if someone (Yang) was holding to the lamp and thought of a question (like why does raven never care about anyone else and only herself?) then the lamp will give them the answer through visual means (like a flash back) and it's suppose to represent the lamp giving the user some useful knowledge.
Charis Aurelius I was using Yang and Raven as examples because in the episode when Yang grabbed the lamp she learned how Selfish Raven was so that went with my theory of how it works
TinFoil TV Oh that makes sense, but still Raven is rebellious because I’ve seen an actual video or read about they would be around gangs or bandits. She probably did not want Yang to be involved because she could have lost Yang.
I like your theory, but I think it just got to Yang, that Raven cares more about herself more than her own dauther - because she let her have the relic, making her a target instead.
0:37 Egypt, really? Egypt is famous - throughout history - for being a wellspring of life in a harsh environment, at least in a general sense. Everything important about the country is located on or near the Nile. I would hope most people thought the Sahara Desert first.
Umm, while that's technically true. The stereotypical and classical image of Egypt is a desert, and given that 90% of Egypt is a desert that makes since.
True, I think Egypt just feels the most relevant when we're talking about knowledge, as far as desert-dwelling locations go. Alexandria, anyone? (R.I.P. that library that burned down, though). But I mean, you can argue they made the place livable through knowledge - they made irrigation systems, and manipulated the Nile to work for them. Or maybe, rather, used what it already did.
So if the relic is a blue lamp and Mistral's symbol is a blue lamp, then the Relic of Destruction is the sword on the Vacuo symbol. Atlas (Creation) could be a staff or spear. And Beacon's (choice) are twin axes. Perhaps one is light and the other is dark because they represent Choice.
Snake Throne the spear for creation could be possible if we go from mythologie. In the shinto mythologie there is the spear of the two gods izanami and izanagi who formed the world with said spear
I don't think the axes are the choice. or rather, they are only one of the choices. the other choice is the laurel wreath surrounding them. War for the axes, peace for the wreath.
In my opinion, the relic of knowledge should have been based on the Antikythera Mechanism. It is an artifact found off the coast of Greece. It is a fascinating story, for anyone who is interested: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antikythera_mechanism
Don't you find it interesting that the SPRING maiden's relic is found within a DESERTED dimension thing? Spring symbolizes proseperity, and deserts do not contain that.
Cynics is the school for Greek philosophers cynicism is a word related to skepticism, negativity, curiosity, suspicion. Those who are born Scorpios masks cynicism because they are always skeptic and sometimes thinks negatively of others. Anyways the Greek philosophers you mentioned made me the word cynicism. Cynics is the school for greek philosophers there was still education back then. Philosophy still exists to this day which is a word for learning knowledge, and the curiosities about the universe, society, and everything.
Lamps in general are associated with knowledge or guidance. For instance, there's Chapter 119, Verse 105 from the book of Psalms, "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path." There's also a scene in the first National Treasure movie that mentioned lamps and the Freemasons. I can't remember the details though.
I thought the lamp of knowledge didn't refer to "life", but to "LIGHT". As in illumination. It's a metaphor for being able to see. Casting light on things allows you see the them and get information about them. And where was the Relic? In a sunny, well lit area. Also, when I think "sandy, lifeless desert", I think "Sahara Desert", not "Egypt. Although I think the Sahara does stretch as far as Egypt. But Egypt also has pyramids and the Nile River associated with it, neither of which was evident in the Relic "room".
the relic seems to making a heartbeat so it might be an item of creation. The relic was also held behind a door only the spring maiden can open, spring being the season where plants start growing again after winter. the lamp's background is the oposite of life, probably to contain its power of life.
When he said that, I about choked. I KNOW Florence Nightingale is taught in American schools, as well; I was taught about her in elementary school, too, and my kids were, also.
We at least know that its a lamp because of what Oscar said and we know theres energy inside because of the blue light radiating from it I knew Florence Knightingale from a history reinactment day we had in primary school I didnt hear any screams but Calxiyn did a video saying that what if the relics used to be people and then they were transformed later into different things such as the lamp the we know about now
First thing that came to mind was the Library of Alexandria (created by Alexander the Great), which was said to have been in Northern Egypt .... The library was lost to a fire and all it's knowledge with it. It would be interesting to see if Rooster Teeth use it as subtle premonition or foreshadowing ;)
I saw in another video that the relic being a lantern might have been the inspiration Mistral's sigil. I always thought it looked like a shield with a sword behind it, though I now see that it is actually a lantern, with a small flame inside and light radiating from it. Also, Mistral's sigil is often shown as blue, the same color as the light from the relic. They also raised another interesting point, the relic of destruction. The WoR episode on the Great War talked about how the King of Vale at the time wielded a sword and scepter in the bloodiest battle in Remnant's known history. Obviously the Scepter is Ozpin's staff, but the sword was notably shown as orange, despite Ozpin/King of Vale being green. Vacuo is home to relic of destruction, has three swords as its sigil, and is often associated with orange. Perhaps the relic of destruction is a sword? By this logic, the relic of creation (Atlas/Mantle) would be a paintbrush, and the relic of choice is... something? There may be some way to incorporate an axe into the idea of choice, or it might have to do with the laurel wreaths that are also part of Vale's sigil.
Hey Fang, if you’re reading this I found something an interesting reference. Remember how Lionhardt was basically a scared of Salem and was a huge coward? Well this could be a reference the lion from The Wizard of Oz. The lion on the movie was scared and a coward. Same with Lionhardt. Even after Salem killing him, she calls Lionhardt a “coward”. The Cowardly Lion
ironwood is the tin man, goodwhich is, of course, the kind witch, I'm assuming that the other headmaster is going to be the scarecrow is it isn't meant to be Qrow.
I think you've missed a rather obvious association between a lamp and knowledge, I think it represents the idea of enlightenment.
pun intended?
It brightened my day

TPatter ... that... acually sounds realistic and fits really well
It's not a paintbrush, it's a torch
TPatter amazing 😉 theory best one ☝️ I've heard so far
Not bad
Season 6 report: the correct thing the sword the silhouette for the “paintbrush” was unclear and can’t remember it and a crown
I swear, if somebody rubs the lamp and the Genie from Aladdin comes out, imma die of laughter 😂😂😂
Jordan Chavez omg somebody should make a fan art of this 😂😂😂
A comic strip of it LOL
About that
Check volume 6, you'll see. 😏
RIP
when taking the characters from which the RWBY cast is based on into consideration, there is another interesting connection. At the end of the episode, the one to hold the relic of knowledge was Qrow. Qrow is (in part) based on the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz. The scarecrow wished that he had a brain. The scarecrow now finally has the brain he wished for...
L0rd_of_cows If that is true then who is the Cowardly Lion? Remember Salem killed Leo Leonhart.
landmine121 hey hes dead im not complaining
@@landmine121 why would death change that? All the people around Ozpin are the characters from the Wizard of Oz. Lionheart is the cowardly lion.
What I think the relics we be:
Creation: A pen, paint brush, etc.
That's what I was thinking too.
I don't know, the genie's lamp and this lamp are 2 entirely different types of lamps. It might be a bit of a leap.
I like your theory. Rwby after all is based on story-tales so having the lamp be from 1,001 Arabian nights makes sense! It helps your theory that someone could call the “cavernous” room they entered “wondrous” much like the place the genie was found on the tale

The lamp, as I see it, is a symbol for enlightenment. When you shine a lamp in a dark room, it's appearance is revealed to you. I was just gonna say
I'm with the belief that the artifacts are a part of the two brothers that Qrow illustrated to RNJR is season 4.

Daffyhat agreed
Great video, Eruption! Another piece of information to consider are the emblems for each of the four Kingdoms. The Relic of Knowledge, located in Mistral looks like a lantern/lamp, and if you look at the Mistral/Haven Academy emblem, it looks like a lantern with a flame inside it. Not much can be said about it's origin or inspiration, but perhaps we can understand the physical forms of the other relics from their Kingdom emblems as well. Atlas - Torch/Paintbrush, Vacuo - Swords, Vale - Axes.
MurderofBirds wow ITS MURDER OMG
I mistook it for a potion XD
To quote a line from Law & Order, “The truth will set you free, it won’t always make you happy.” This seems VERY applicable here.
dang. you're very smart
"The goal isn't to live on forever; it's to make something that does." ---- Monty Oum
Khalid Henry that's sad... so true and unfortunately he did so much for the show that even years later they cannot replace him.. the show still rocks tho
Manohar Rajan Agree
Khalid Henry Why do people keep quoting this all of the time? Everyone knows that the goal is to live forever or die trying.
You quote that on every video
LAMP
Maybe they just made it a lamp so they can say it enlightens people.
Ya it's LIGHT the way to truth
XXX XXX Dude, that's actually a really good deduction! Idk if I'd agree with you 100%, but a very good deduction nonetheless! :)
That would be amazing!
Vivvifier God Damn it Barb!
Looking for an honest man...Maybe an honest soul? Ozpin seemed to be searching for an honest soul. Ruby.
Wolf Blaze I do agree
go back to episode 1 say something about something a honest soul. at the start
"Perhaps victory is in the simpler things that you've long forgotten. Something that requires a smaller; more honest soul." -Ozpin in RWBY volume 1 episode 1
thank you (:
Ozpin is searching for an honest soul?
Since you mentioned Egypt the first thing that came to my mind was the Great Library of Alexandria. The library was the greatest bastion of recorded knowledge in the old world before it was destroyed, so it would make make a sensible comparison.
and the head of the library, Hypatia, was murdered by a mob. Could the Spring Maiden before Raven have been beaten to death like Hypatia?
I find it interesting that while the temple that housed the actual relic of spring had growth on it- like you would see in spring- but within the temple, it was barren like a desert. That's definitely significant, and I'm pretty sure that's exactly what is aligned with your theory. They meant to draw attention to the setting so we could theorize about the myth behind the relic.
Diogenes was looking for an honest man - i.e. a simple soul, i.e. Ruby?
I hear heartbeat sounds coming from the lamp, so it might relate to the life theory?
Maybe it's the blue ball that's the actual relic; the lamp there simply to hold it. In Volume 4, the relics look like balls of essence or something.
Alright here we go pure speculation and first thing to come to mind.
Lamp=yang because shining light
Shroud=Blake because covered in shadows
Scythe=ruby because well scythes
Mirror=Weiss because split into two personas.
It's interesting Yang picked up the relic if it IS related to Diogenes because she's set up as being one of two characters who may be capable of questioning Ozpin's virtue. The other of course being Jaune.
I was thinking that the lamp being in a sandy environment could symbolise that knowledge is timeless, similarly to sand in a hourglass
EruptionFang: There's no life around; it's all sand.
Me: Did you know that; there is a pizza hut; near the pyramids?
Just one thing, the part of looking for an honest man was more of criticism than an actual search. He was called "the cynical" for a reason
Yeah, that is true. When you think about it, his saying that he's "looking for an honest man" implies that all of the people he's talking to are not it. He's looking, because the people right there around him aren't honest in some way or another, or at least, he doesn't see them like that.
Not sure if it relevant but Jaune sure has become cynical
LAMP
If you're right about it being a connection to that Greek philosopher, it makes sense that Yang picks it up, because she's kind of been looking for the truth and trying to figure out who is truthful along the way in season 5
It's a light in the figurative sense, in that, knowledge lights the way. The more you know the better you can see what the world truly is.
I bring up this quote: "A smaller, more HONEST soul."
Noelle Gates From?
The very first episode of RWBY. Sorry I forgot that.
Noelle Gates I think it ruby or Oscar
Also! The lyrics from the opener of volume one: "Victory is in a simple soul"
The Relic of Creation better be a huge ass Lego Brick.
This comment wins!
And they cut the audio every time they say lego
Do you think they'll make Salem stand on it ?
I thought the sounds coming from the lamp sounded like a heartbeat.
same
I wouldn't confine the lamp's inspiration to be from Egyptian. The desert setting and even lamp color and styling are all evocative of the greater Middle-East and Northern Africa.
Middle East is what i thought too.
I was thinking of middle east too. Specifically Disney's Aladdin and the lamp containing the genie.
Obi-Wan Kenobi i was thinking a genie?
I thought that too. It looks like it was inspired by Arabic hanging lamps.
i think, that what the guy in the video was alluding to with Egypt was the lost library of Alexandria the once great library and biggest collection of knowledge in the world
I think the Lamp may only be a vessel.
Knowledge enlightens many. You know what else does Lamps. Lamp provides light and therefore knowledge. Case closed.
TheBasileman So if the light ever goes out, people lose knowledge. That would explain why Salem wants it.
I didn’t hear the voices, but it sounded like a heart beat to me.
What if every viewer hears something different? :o
TheFlaming Angel yeah it was beating. But also heard a voice.
Ignorance is bliss... A dessert is often a wastland, barren and harsh. Could be that there is symbolism in that.
Honest man = Honest soul ?
i kinda felt like it was like Aladdin the lamp with the genie that knows all and grant anything
Andrew Young now that would be interesting to see!
It could just be that the relic of knowledge enLIGHTENS you... You might start getting bright ideas...
Martin Hübinette you know puns are the LIGHT of my life
Perhaps ozpin is the one looking for the honest man, or in this case an honest soul
I thought the same
menameh ya that's a good theory. And Ruby is the pure innocent honest soul right? I'm pretty sure they have used those words to describe her
they should rub the relic and maybe an all knowing genie will pop out and answer 3 questions instead of granting 3 wishes :D
The blue screen in the lantern, is robin williams, he is just sleeping in the lantern
Alexander Mckeegankelly I wish that were true.
I honestly think it's a representation of enlightenment.
Haven's symbol looks vaugly like the lamp. So maybe each symbol represents the relic.
what I'd like to know is why the SPRING relic is in a DESERT when not considering your previous explanations of course XD
Skully Smalls Maybe it was a huge garden and someone forgot to water the plants
Luis Diaz 😂 that just made my day 👏👏👏
Luis Diaz way to turn over a new leaf on the situation
It sounds like a heartbeat
A Poynta what if the relics contain the essence of the gods of light and darkness, and bringing them together allows them to be reborn.
I'm calling it now. The creation relic is a Lego brick so that the user can create whatever it wants.
I doubt that, but love the idea
it's like genies lamp.
The desert theory could also be a Symbol on how a maiden is treating others
Someone pointed out that Haven's Symbol looks like a lamp. Based off that and knowing that Vale hold the relic of choice, Atlas with the paintbrush could creation and Vaccuo with the Sword could be destruction. Choice could be the laurels or wreath around the axes but not sure how that is choice.
KemarRaijin that makes sO MUCH SENSE
You're probably right; Imma steal that theory 😅
(I used to think the Atlas symbol was a torch, but paintbrush makes so much more sense!)
Going off of your third one what if all of the world of remnants are from after the relic was used
That good ol' Naruto Shippuden Music though.
Glad someone else noticed that.
Knowledge will light the way in dark times
Sarah Beth
.... HarryPotterfirstmovie *cough*
The Lamp reminded me of Aladdin.
Same
Yeah, especially with the blue glow, I thought of the genie, a genie has stores of knowledge if you think about it. They live for centuries.
For some reason whenever I imagined the relics the picture that came to my head was the mother boxes from Justice League
My theory is the Relics are portrayed in the symbols of each academy.
you're not the only one, some other youtuber thought the same thing, though I can't remember the name.
The lamp to me, sounds like a muffled heartbeat
I suppose it would be to change something? wiping out man seems like the first guess but thats too easy....bring back her loved ones? but oz is sacrificing lives here so its gotta be more than that, something that threatens the world but isn't the death of man.
golden brigain Interesting
It sounds like a heart beat.
was just about to say the same thing
I personally support unicorn of wars theory. Each of the symbols for the academy relate to their relic. Havens is a lamp, atlas is a paintbrush, Shade is a sword, and beacons is either a axe, or something relating to the wreath around the two axes.
Atlis symbol is a torch so maybe you have to light the lamp with creation
Choice I think will be a scales, destruction I think will be a hammer and life will be a cup.
The only time I ever heard the name Florence Nightingale was from a history class...
XELI In all honesty, I never heard of her in history. And I guessed ive missed it in the movie back to the future but it does make sense in a way but I can't grasp it yet
i was thinking aladins lamp
i would the relic has the handle because if you touch it directly it would over flood your mind with *KNOWLEGDE*
TinFoil TV With Raven being actual birds they are actual rebellious natives. There are still some people who only thinks about themselves.
Charis Aurelius true
I like your theory, but I think it just got to Yang, that Raven cares more about herself more than her own dauther - because she let her have the relic, making her a target instead.
The sound looks like a heartbeat so me
0:37 Egypt, really? Egypt is famous - throughout history - for being a wellspring of life in a harsh environment, at least in a general sense. Everything important about the country is located on or near the Nile. I would hope most people thought the Sahara Desert first.
well, as someone lacking in geographical knowledge and who has never been over seas(I'm in Australia) when I see a desert I also think of egypt.
The sound the Lamp of Knowledge makes sounds like a heart beat to me so that might be the Life part of it
The first thing that popped in my head was the library in the desert in the last airbender, although not a real place its what I thought of.
But it was a real place :) - The last airbender was referencing a famous library, see my comment above ^
Snake Throne and destruction could very well be related to the swords Excalibur, durendal or dyrwyn
I don't think the axes are the choice. or rather, they are only one of the choices. the other choice is the laurel wreath surrounding them. War for the axes, peace for the wreath.
This lamp dude is represent the symbol of Haven.
The blue colour makes me think of Ravenclaw. And hey! Racenclaw is also the House searching for knowledge :D
For instance, there's Chapter 119, Verse 105 from the book of Psalms,
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
There's also a scene in the first National Treasure movie that mentioned lamps and the Freemasons. I can't remember the details though.
That outro took me a moment to remember where I heard it - I very much approve.
It sounds more like a heartbeat or blood flowing to me
could be all three. I heard the people, not screaming all the time but wailing, and the heart beat.
Hahaha I love that American’s know Florence Nightingale from Back to the Future, we get taught about her in Primary School in England
When he said that, I about choked. I KNOW Florence Nightingale is taught in American schools, as well; I was taught about her in elementary school, too, and my kids were, also.
Tracy Goode same ive never even seen Back to the Future
We at least know that its a lamp because of what Oscar said and we know theres energy inside because of the blue light radiating from it
I knew Florence Knightingale from a history reinactment day we had in primary school
I didnt hear any screams but Calxiyn did a video saying that what if the relics used to be people and then they were transformed later into different things such as the lamp the we know about now
The relic also looks like Haven's symbol. Credit to Reddit
the schools were (in part made to protect them) so maybe the other school symbols are the relics, its not like salem doesnt know their there
Oscar in the last line of the episode actually repeats what Ospin told him, saying, "We need to get the LAMP to Atlas"
Also the lamp pulses and sounds like a heart beat at several moments during its scenes it appears in.
Maybe the relic of choice is a balance, representing good and bad choices.
Luis Diaz that's basically what he's meant to be
Lmao ^
ironwood is the tin man, goodwhich is, of course, the kind witch, I'm assuming that the other headmaster is going to be the scarecrow is it isn't meant to be Qrow.
What if the relics only work with the maidens of specific order.
