In my personal opinion, you know you've made something amazing when it takes on a life of its own. When you stop for a few moments and wonder "I want THIS to happen, but how do the CHARACTERS make it happen" or something along those lines.
That’s really lazy though if that’s the case - if I worked for months on something to make it good and did all that work to fact check, I’d update the line...

Yeah I think the only reason he was able to do that with Beacon and not with the other relics is because he himself is guarding the relic and as I see it (I don't know yet this is just a theory from here on out) each character of the wizard of oz reference is guarding each relic of each school, Glynda (The Good witch), Leonardo (The Lion), Ironwood (The Tin Man) and most probably some character referenced as the scarecrow (which makes Qrow not the scarecrow reference) and Ozpin just so happens to choose Beacon as his main base of operations which leads him to making more complicated defenses for the relic. So yeah, this actually lined up in making Summer Rose the reference of Dorothy from Wizard of Oz (this ends my theory for that) and now going back, this actually explains why the relic at Beacon is much more protected since Oz wasn't able to make some time to check in with the other academies as mentioned in the series how Ironwood is being out of the loop and how Ozpin never knew that Leonardo was already siding with Salem.
Great video. I will say however, the whole "she made off with one of the relics" line was a real blemish in terms of research. Even based on the fact that the video was written back in November, there was NO concrete evidence that Cinder or Salem retrieved the Relic of Choice from Beacon academy. As early as Volume 4, Salem made it clear that she was trouble finding the relic, when she questioned if Cinder had killed Ozpin and reinforced the Grimm numbers to find it.

This was such a walk down memory lane! The only thing I would change is when you said that Weiss "returned home to discover it wasn't the home she knew," which isn't really true. It's been the home she knew since she was 10 years old and probably before then. The only reason it has such a toll on her now is because she had never known what a real family should be like before she met Ruby, Blake, and Yang and before then, as we see in volume 1, she was just accepting her circumstances and letting them shape her as a person. Now that she knows how jacked her family is, she stopped accepting it for what it was and knows she needs to find her real family, Winter/RWBY. Other thanthat, this was fabulous!
MrZee oh there's much worse parts than the stunted fight scenes. The story has taken a nose dive when it reaches anything directly in contact with Ruby or Blake in seasons 4 and 5. Even Weiss and Yang's stories have dropped in quality when they cut into Ruby's main arc
He was referring to how when we see them clash swords, they're in midair, but then when they cut away then cut back, they're suddenly on the ground. It's called shot inconsistency.

I’m glad they did continue with RWBY. I have a feeling Monty wouldn’t have wanted the show to end just because he passed, but instead grow bigger and flourish like it is now.
I do wish they would choreograph the fights more closely to his style, though. So far, the only ones that have wowed me since season 3 are Qrow's fight against the scorpion guy, Sun's recent fight, and the emotional fight of Ren against that big grim.
Not tomention if they had stopped the show where it did it would have been remembered for the few good fights,and the horribly cringy jokes. What recent volumes need is an improvement in fighting coreography, but that can be fixed.

For those who are here saying "It was better when Monty was around." Would you have rather they canceled the show and left us all in the dust while the show eventually fall to obscurity?" No, though it's true that it isn't the same; let's be honest, it will NEVER be the same.....but that doesn't mean it's not good. It's still developing and the people at RT are still doing what they can to give Monty justice for the show that he created and cared for.

I think for me personally while I have mixed opinions about Volume 5, I understand the circumstances a bit, but honestly with how good Volume 3 was without Monty's help for the most part, I was hoping they could keep it going. Volume 4 while obviously not as great as V3, was mildly disappointing for people (Personally I enjoyed it a lot though since they had some epic grimm fights). Volume 5, after that feels even more of a step down consistently, which is disappointing after how good V3 was. I think the problem is for V5, the weekly upload schedule, where they don't take the usual week breaks, which they could use to polish stuff up. Still I will never compare it to Monty since he is gone, and honestly when V5 gets into the highlights, it can be really good, however it gets dragged down a lot by the negatives which is disappointing. Still curious how they are going to end the volume.
Just because they probably can't hope to bring it back to a level comparable to when Monty was around doesn't mean they shouldn't at least try and give it their all. The difference in quality in choreography is IMMENSE. It's as if there is no one invested into it. No one with passion leading the animation team. They're leaving it at the most generic fighting possible, with possibly one or two fights per volume that have some semblance of effort put into them to appease the fans. And it's not just the choreography. The overall art got better, but the world lost its atmosphere. The characters got new models and grew older but they feel less believable and shallow. The episodic nature of the show is gone, replaced with an overarching plot that leaves most of the volumes empty, filled with exposition to build up the final event of the volume which disappoints in the end. There's just no passion in the show. I don't see it anywhere. Everything is done to a minimum or in the easiest way possible.

In the early days of the show the most awareness I saw came from that one other guy on campus that owned the (as in the only) RWBY shirt. Oh how my little baby has grown up.
Yup the baby has grown up. It developed severe acne as an early teen. It barely graduated high school and was kicked out of college freshman year. Now it is nothing more than a disappointment living in your basement. But it's better to remember things how they were, not how they are.
I don't know... some people mentioned inaccuracies in this video. I wouldn't call them inaccuracies. A lot of stuff was plainly wrong. It's like watching the Narnia movies after reading the books: One recognises the world and the names of the characters, but it seems to be a completely different story. I'd say A for effort, but the facts department was a little bit lacking in this.
I like the new one, but the older one was more acurated according to her personality and to what it was based. But the one that I really miss is the Weiss outfit, I don't like the new (even the one that she use in Vol 2 episode 4-5 was better) :'/
Her voice feels out of place in the recent volumes. With the increase of seriousness and what I'd say lack of humor, every other character sounds more mature. If they brought the humor back in volume 6 and gave characters funner dialogue, like in 1-3 she'd fit in again.
I didn't think much of RWBY at first. When the series started, it was one cliche after another...but since then, it's become so much more. It's baffling how many cliches they've avoided, how many risks they've taken, and how much attention the supporting characters have gotten. The fight scenes--I admit--are becoming a bit less flashy and over-the-top, the pacing is kind of "all over the place," and it's still lacking in the world-building department, but really...RWBY has better storytelling, better atmosphere, better choreography, and a better understanding of tone than a lot of modern anime do.
Which is weird considering how much of the people seem to be ignoring the fact the story has improved every volume. It's the fighting coreography that needs work. But nope,because the fights aren't "glorious" they proceed to ignore everything else and even forget how horrible at times the Volume 1 dialogue was.

RWBY has become such a swamp of hate in the comments, its incredible. People only complain about the lack of fight scenes, but there's so much more to the show. People complaining about Volume 4 being the worst because of it's lack of fights completely ignore the fact that character development and plot was the main focus of the season. The story itself was actually really good and well written, but gets completely overshadowed by the "fans' " hate and complete lack of appreciation to what the volume was about. Yes, I'll agree that the choreography of the fights has suffered, but the artistic improvements on the animation as a whole makes up for it greatly (in my opinion, at least). There are so many screenshottable moments in every episode that look beautiful and desktop background worthy, and the voice acting has also improved, seeing as the main cast has gained experience and the show's popularity has brought in talented voice actors. All this to say, the hate I see in the comments is quite depressing, because the show is more than one long overdrawn fight that apparently everyone wants (which proves true since the only episodes in Vols 4 and 5 commentors like are the fight scene episodes). If the entire show was actually written as a novel, where there was no eye-candy and all in the mind's imagination, the story would be just as successful because I personally believe the settings, plot and characters is what makes the show great. I really hope I'm in the majority on this, and I look forward to the volumes to come...
Don't just summarize people's criticism as "hate", I'm sure a small minority of people are haters, but majority of them aren't. It's not just fighting, the writing of the show in lots of places is bad. I still like the series, but volume 4 5 and 6 were a giant ball of wasted potential.
Imagine CRWBY re-animating the red trailer or the first episodes I think that'll help them understand or absorb a bit of how Monty does the fighting choreography

Interesting to read some of the comments here. I just recently started watching the RWBY series and I can honestly say that, in my view, the show gets progressively better as it goes along. In large part, this is because the first three seasons are necessary to lay the groundwork. However, they are also far too action and fight-oriented to the point of boredom. By the time the fourth season ends, however, the switch to real stories, character development and mythology-building turns into something with the signs of becoming a real epic.
Great job on the video! I love the format and recap. PS; For all you guys saying that Cinder didn't get the relic, it's implied, or at least likely, that she *did* find the beacon relic. In episode 12 of season 5, when she makes her way to the gate of the relic in haven, cinder says "its a lot more extravagant than beacons. I wonder what the extra effort is for." This implies that she did at one point find the gate/relic. Plus, Ozpin isn't at beacon so, he wouldnt know if they found the relic or not in the first place. He just said it wasnt going to be easy to find it. Just my 2 cents on it!
With the start of Season 6, I personally would like to say that the show is back to that state of seasons 1-3. Watching episode 1-2 for s6 of RWBY felt so nostalgic with the goofiness and clean action sequences. Only time will tell now if they can keep it up. Major props for this video and what the crew at RT are doing for the show.

I was never a fan of RWBY but I was a big fan of Dead Fantasy and when Monty died it really hit me. Such a talented person just, gone from this world in what felt like the blink of an eye. I can only hope that he's looking down on what became of RWBY after his passing and is smiling at how successful it is.
I know I’m probably going to get a lot of hate for saying this but once Monty died, this show lost so much charm. Volume 4 was eh and volume 5, while better was still pretty eh. Especially anything with Blake. What’s worst is the fights so far have never stood out. You can definitely see this in volume 5. I won’t spoil too much but they have so many fights built up that were unsatisfying. I️t really sucks that we had to lose him once things got rolling. Would have loved to see what Month did with volume 4+. May he Rest In Peace.
i dunno, i feel at least with the fights, they're starting to get back into what monty was able to do. will they ever be able to replicate his style? no, probably not. but the last fight between cinder and raven was very, very close. it didn't have the slower, grounded pace and basic choreography like some of the other vol4/5 fights, it felt very similar to dead fantasy/volume 1's fights scenes.
Tony Flamingo he's the shows creator and lead animator. He was known for his insanely well choreographed and animated fight scenes. Sadly he died of an allergic reaction near the end of season 3. He was only 34

You made me cry! Monty is my idol. I was set on learning animation just to meet him in person but after 2 years learning animation. I found out that he is in coma .... And which led to his death... Still Monty... You are my IDOL!
That’s sad how he died and you can notice the less flair to it but it still looks amazing and is something I will continue to rewatch over and over again
If you want to see the inspiration for the fighting style Monty used in the early episodes of RWBY you only have to look as far as his previous projects. I agree, and on to the most reactant one.I feel the writers are kind of all over the place in volume 5, there’s still a solid plot but there are a good number of holes in it.
Monty will always live on through RWBY, he was a visionary like we no longer have these days and keeps inspiring us all to Keep Moving Forward, no matter how bleak things can seem.
To me, the great divider in this series was the death of Monty Oum. On one hand, the story gained a lot more depth and seriousness, the characters had an interesting and dramatic background and everything just seems connected in a bigger play, instead of just random action scenes. On the other hand, the action scenes, which was one of the strong points of the series, got a lot lamer. Monty Oum was a genius animator and he knew how to give intensity to the scenes. The recent ones the movement doesn't flow as well and smoothly as before, and they should really cut a frame or two because the characters look slow as f***. You could see a CLEAR difference from season 3 onwards regarding these two
I personally have been enjoying the newer volumes. I LIKE that there's now a true, solid plot. I like the talking, the suspense. Fights are fun but honestly a show cannot survive on that alone. I think Monty would have been proud with what has been done.

I was hoping for a bit of a deeper analysis of the animation style. I think it's fascinating how significantly it has progressed. It's almost like we were able to watch the developers' skills and animation knowledge grow alongside the personality and depth of the characters themselves, as if they were attached in some way.
Not as good as it used to be, story is ok but recently has been doing a lot of cliffhangers , mediocre plot or solutions, and bad side quests General animation is getting "better" but large fighting has fallen
yeah, rwby has really started losing it's uniquness, if it's not already lost. I still enjoy the show but I can't really call it good. I actually think it might be a good idea if they tried to re-make volume 1 & 2(and maybe 3 but that one doesn't need much improvement) with the new software and and animators. that way the animators could get to experience animating in monty's style and we'd get more uniformity in the overall series art. I mean, the downside would be no NEW rwby for at least a year, but if it means overall upgrade in quality for season 6 and beyond then I don't mind, but I hold of that statement until I see how bad of a cliff volume 5 ends on. but knowing the series as it is means I probably won't care having to wait an extra year, volume 3 had me up at night waiting for the next volume, but volume 4 really lost that and I wasn't even really anticipating it until a week before release.
why not? I may not be well versed in 3d animation, but I understand you can't just convert the animation files into a new software and reskin them with the new models, there wouldn't be anypoint to that afterall, my idea was to completely recreate the first volumes by copying what they see to the best of their abilities in a new program to find a method to animate closer to monty's style. it doesn't even have to be a recreation of the series, thats kinda just something I thought would be nice. just them copying monty's old work in new software would be good training, or at least thats how I learned how to do art, by copying someones work with my own tools to better learn how to do it on my own.
I started watching RWBY because Monty Oum was involved, and my sons and I had seen a cartoon by Rooster Teeth on TV. But Dead Fantasy by Oum was my main draw. I think it stayed true to his style

I'll stand by my opinion for this reason; In Japan, the word "Anime" translates to "Animation", and refers to all forms of animation. Outside of the country, for some reason, it lost that translation and now is used as a word that only describes "manga-turned-cartoon shows from Japan". Seems very close minded, if you ask me.
I miss when the show was good (awaits triggered comments). I still love the show... But there was a massive quality dip after volume 3 that they're still struggling to recover from. I hope they manager to reshape it back to the way it once was.

JoeMavro the fights, for example. A lot of the fights are now just standing and taunting. The actual fight choreography seems so bad. Take, for example, when qrow tries to block bullets with his sword in volumes 4-5. It feels more that the bullets are placed to hit his sword, than him moving his sword to block them. They honestly need to stop standing in fighting. Spoilers: Volume 5 showed some hints of good battle choreography, when raven fought cinder, when Adam ran away, and when emerald used a distraction to let people escape. Battles in rwby would be 10x better if they just fought with effort like in RvC than with them just standing and talking
I really hate to be that guy, but don't get your hopes up. I don't know if you caught the clip of Miles (the lead writer) on the Rooster Teeth podcast and his rather... on the nose opinion of people who criticize his writing. Let's just say I don't think he takes criticism well.
Volume 6 is changing things up, too--the writing has improved a lot, as well as the animation! I'm excited to see where it goes, and I pray that when the show ends it will have kept its integrity.
Nice homework guys. Well written. Look forward to more RWBY related vids. And as always, Monty will always be dearly missed in this community. However toxic it may be or yet to become, it's still a giant family. And like family, will fight, but also cry together when it's needed.
I've been working with Maya for 5 years and have never heard it called "Maya Design Studio".... Edit: just looked it up, Maya Design Studio is an entirely different thing from Autodesk Maya, which is what RT switched to after Poser

It bothers me that so many people complain every episode that it's gone down hill since Monty passed. He'd want it to keep going, and it'll only keep going IF fans continue to support it. Japan treats it as anime, so therefore it is anime. Also, any cartoon with a story is anime. And anime is just a short way of saying animation anyways.
The only thing I don't like about rwby is, ruby's voice. Like come on, she's a main character who will have moments when she has to say serious lines. Yet all I hear is an obnoxious little kid. Don't get me wrong ruby is still a child and has room to grow and mature, but I mean, you can't have the main character of a show sounding like they took 71 shots of helium before recording, imagine if they ever fight salem. Salem will have a powerfull voice that's intimidating, then you have bootleg jar jar binks trying to say an awesome one liner.
But perhaps the point is, like the world we live in, that sometimes its not about how you sound. We can't really judge people by how they sound and it shouldn't be any different here

In 05:26, you say that Cinder makes off with Beacon's relic, but in Volume 5, Ozpin states that the Beacon relic has not been found. Even in Volume 4, when the Seeker Grimm approaches Salem with news on the aftermath of Beacon, Salem aggressively questions Cinder about Ozpin's death since the relic is unable to be found.

MrZee oh there's much worse parts than the stunted fight scenes. The story has taken a nose dive when it reaches anything directly in contact with Ruby or Blake in seasons 4 and 5. Even Weiss and Yang's stories have dropped in quality when they cut into Ruby's main arc

I’m glad they did continue with RWBY. I have a feeling Monty wouldn’t have wanted the show to end just because he passed, but instead grow bigger and flourish like it is now.
I do wish they would choreograph the fights more closely to his style, though. So far, the only ones that have wowed me since season 3 are Qrow's fight against the scorpion guy, Sun's recent fight, and the emotional fight of Ren against that big grim.

For those who are here saying "It was better when Monty was around." Would you have rather they canceled the show and left us all in the dust while the show eventually fall to obscurity?" No, though it's true that it isn't the same; let's be honest, it will NEVER be the same.....but that doesn't mean it's not good. It's still developing and the people at RT are still doing what they can to give Monty justice for the show that he created and cared for.

I think for me personally while I have mixed opinions about Volume 5, I understand the circumstances a bit, but honestly with how good Volume 3 was without Monty's help for the most part, I was hoping they could keep it going.
Volume 4 while obviously not as great as V3, was mildly disappointing for people (Personally I enjoyed it a lot though since they had some epic grimm fights).
Volume 5, after that feels even more of a step down consistently, which is disappointing after how good V3 was. I think the problem is for V5, the weekly upload schedule, where they don't take the usual week breaks, which they could use to polish stuff up.
Still I will never compare it to Monty since he is gone, and honestly when V5 gets into the highlights, it can be really good, however it gets dragged down a lot by the negatives which is disappointing. Still curious how they are going to end the volume.
Just because they probably can't hope to bring it back to a level comparable to when Monty was around doesn't mean they shouldn't at least try and give it their all.
The difference in quality in choreography is IMMENSE. It's as if there is no one invested into it. No one with passion leading the animation team. They're leaving it at the most generic fighting possible, with possibly one or two fights per volume that have some semblance of effort put into them to appease the fans.
And it's not just the choreography. The overall art got better, but the world lost its atmosphere. The characters got new models and grew older but they feel less believable and shallow. The episodic nature of the show is gone, replaced with an overarching plot that leaves most of the volumes empty, filled with exposition to build up the final event of the volume which disappoints in the end.
There's just no passion in the show. I don't see it anywhere. Everything is done to a minimum or in the easiest way possible.
Honestly, yes. I would have preferred the show die with dignity than slowly fall apart. Better to burn out than fade away.

In the early days of the show the most awareness I saw came from that one other guy on campus that owned the (as in the only) RWBY shirt. Oh how my little baby has grown up.

Her voice feels out of place in the recent volumes. With the increase of seriousness and what I'd say lack of humor, every other character sounds more mature. If they brought the humor back in volume 6 and gave characters funner dialogue, like in 1-3 she'd fit in again.
I didn't think much of RWBY at first. When the series started, it was one cliche after another...but since then, it's become so much more. It's baffling how many cliches they've avoided, how many risks they've taken, and how much attention the supporting characters have gotten. The fight scenes--I admit--are becoming a bit less flashy and over-the-top, the pacing is kind of "all over the place," and it's still lacking in the world-building department, but really...RWBY has better storytelling, better atmosphere, better choreography, and a better understanding of tone than a lot of modern anime do.
Which is weird considering how much of the people seem to be ignoring the fact the story has improved every volume. It's the fighting coreography that needs work. But nope,because the fights aren't "glorious" they proceed to ignore everything else and even forget how horrible at times the Volume 1 dialogue was.

RWBY has become such a swamp of hate in the comments, its incredible. People only complain about the lack of fight scenes, but there's so much more to the show. People complaining about Volume 4 being the worst because of it's lack of fights completely ignore the fact that character development and plot was the main focus of the season. The story itself was actually really good and well written, but gets completely overshadowed by the "fans' " hate and complete lack of appreciation to what the volume was about.
Yes, I'll agree that the choreography of the fights has suffered, but the artistic improvements on the animation as a whole makes up for it greatly (in my opinion, at least). There are so many screenshottable moments in every episode that look beautiful and desktop background worthy, and the voice acting has also improved, seeing as the main cast has gained experience and the show's popularity has brought in talented voice actors.
All this to say, the hate I see in the comments is quite depressing, because the show is more than one long overdrawn fight that apparently everyone wants (which proves true since the only episodes in Vols 4 and 5 commentors like are the fight scene episodes). If the entire show was actually written as a novel, where there was no eye-candy and all in the mind's imagination, the story would be just as successful because I personally believe the settings, plot and characters is what makes the show great. I really hope I'm in the majority on this, and I look forward to the volumes to come...

Don't just summarize people's criticism as "hate", I'm sure a small minority of people are haters, but majority of them aren't. It's not just fighting, the writing of the show in lots of places is bad. I still like the series, but volume 4 5 and 6 were a giant ball of wasted potential.

Interesting to read some of the comments here. I just recently started watching the RWBY series and I can honestly say that, in my view, the show gets progressively better as it goes along. In large part, this is because the first three seasons are necessary to lay the groundwork. However, they are also far too action and fight-oriented to the point of boredom. By the time the fourth season ends, however, the switch to real stories, character development and mythology-building turns into something with the signs of becoming a real epic.

Great job on the video! I love the format and recap. PS; For all you guys saying that Cinder didn't get the relic, it's implied, or at least likely, that she *did* find the beacon relic. In episode 12 of season 5, when she makes her way to the gate of the relic in haven, cinder says "its a lot more extravagant than beacons. I wonder what the extra effort is for." This implies that she did at one point find the gate/relic. Plus, Ozpin isn't at beacon so, he wouldnt know if they found the relic or not in the first place. He just said it wasnt going to be easy to find it. Just my 2 cents on it!
I kind of miss the whole academy aspect.
With the start of Season 6, I personally would like to say that the show is back to that state of seasons 1-3. Watching episode 1-2 for s6 of RWBY felt so nostalgic with the goofiness and clean action sequences. Only time will tell now if they can keep it up. Major props for this video and what the crew at RT are doing for the show.

I was never a fan of RWBY but I was a big fan of Dead Fantasy and when Monty died it really hit me. Such a talented person just, gone from this world in what felt like the blink of an eye. I can only hope that he's looking down on what became of RWBY after his passing and is smiling at how successful it is.

I know I’m probably going to get a lot of hate for saying this but once Monty died, this show lost so much charm. Volume 4 was eh and volume 5, while better was still pretty eh. Especially anything with Blake. What’s worst is the fights so far have never stood out. You can definitely see this in volume 5. I won’t spoil too much but they have so many fights built up that were unsatisfying. I️t really sucks that we had to lose him once things got rolling. Would have loved to see what Month did with volume 4+. May he Rest In Peace.
i dunno, i feel at least with the fights, they're starting to get back into what monty was able to do. will they ever be able to replicate his style? no, probably not. but the last fight between cinder and raven was very, very close. it didn't have the slower, grounded pace and basic choreography like some of the other vol4/5 fights, it felt very similar to dead fantasy/volume 1's fights scenes.

If you want to see the inspiration for the fighting style Monty used in the early episodes of RWBY you only have to look as far as his previous projects. The Dead Fantasy and Haloid videos had some insane combat in them. Oh and the whole thing with the shadow people? Check out the 3D models of the random marines in Haloid.

Monty will always live on through RWBY, he was a visionary like we no longer have these days and keeps inspiring us all to Keep Moving Forward, no matter how bleak things can seem.
To me, the great divider in this series was the death of Monty Oum. On one hand, the story gained a lot more depth and seriousness, the characters had an interesting and dramatic background and everything just seems connected in a bigger play, instead of just random action scenes.
On the other hand, the action scenes, which was one of the strong points of the series, got a lot lamer. Monty Oum was a genius animator and he knew how to give intensity to the scenes. The recent ones the movement doesn't flow as well and smoothly as before, and they should really cut a frame or two because the characters look slow as f***.
You could see a CLEAR difference from season 3 onwards regarding these two

I personally have been enjoying the newer volumes. I LIKE that there's now a true, solid plot. I like the talking, the suspense. Fights are fun but honestly a show cannot survive on that alone. I think Monty would have been proud with what has been done.

Great video man, just one thing tho. Technically Cinder didn't get the relic from Beacon, while Ozpin was in control of Oscar he said that he has hidden The Relic where no one can find it. Also Cinder is still upset that she has sent many people to find The Relic and still nothing has come back.

I was hoping for a bit of a deeper analysis of the animation style. I think it's fascinating how significantly it has progressed. It's almost like we were able to watch the developers' skills and animation knowledge grow alongside the personality and depth of the characters themselves, as if they were attached in some way.
Not as good as it used to be, story is ok but recently has been doing a lot of cliffhangers , mediocre plot or solutions, and bad side quests

yeah, rwby has really started losing it's uniquness, if it's not already lost. I still enjoy the show but I can't really call it good.
I actually think it might be a good idea if they tried to re-make volume 1 & 2(and maybe 3 but that one doesn't need much improvement) with the new software and and animators. that way the animators could get to experience animating in monty's style and we'd get more uniformity in the overall series art.
I mean, the downside would be no NEW rwby for at least a year, but if it means overall upgrade in quality for season 6 and beyond then I don't mind, but I hold of that statement until I see how bad of a cliff volume 5 ends on. but knowing the series as it is means I probably won't care having to wait an extra year, volume 3 had me up at night waiting for the next volume, but volume 4 really lost that and I wasn't even really anticipating it until a week before release.

I may not be well versed in 3d animation, but I understand you can't just convert the animation files into a new software and reskin them with the new models, there wouldn't be anypoint to that afterall, my idea was to completely recreate the first volumes by copying what they see to the best of their abilities in a new program to find a method to animate closer to monty's style.
it doesn't even have to be a recreation of the series, thats kinda just something I thought would be nice. just them copying monty's old work in new software would be good training, or at least thats how I learned how to do art, by copying someones work with my own tools to better learn how to do it on my own.

In Japan, the word "Anime" translates to "Animation", and refers to all forms of animation. Outside of the country, for some reason, it lost that translation and now is used as a word that only describes "manga-turned-cartoon shows from Japan". Seems very close minded, if you ask me.

I miss when the show was good (awaits triggered comments). I still love the show... But there was a massive quality dip after volume 3 that they're still struggling to recover from. I hope they manager to reshape it back to the way it once was.
Same. I still love it but it makes me sad to see just how lackluster it has become, especially after the legendary volume 3. Now that was great, they need to go back to that story quality. But I still have pretty high hopes that it can recover.
Season 4 felt like a recovery season. Season 5 was a def improvement. They really need to improve the mocap for the fights though

The animation looks more professional, characters who desperately need attention are getting it, the story relies less on anime tropes and takes more risks. Explain how the quality has "dipped."
JoeMavro the fights, for example. A lot of the fights are now just standing and taunting. The actual fight choreography seems so bad. Take, for example, when qrow tries to block bullets with his sword in volumes 4-5. It feels more that the bullets are placed to hit his sword, than him moving his sword to block them. They honestly need to stop standing in fighting.

Volume 5 showed some hints of good battle choreography, when raven fought cinder, when Adam ran away, and when emerald used a distraction to let people escape. Battles in rwby would be 10x better if they just fought with effort like in RvC than with them just standing and talking
I really hate to be that guy, but don't get your hopes up. I don't know if you caught the clip of Miles (the lead writer) on the Rooster Teeth podcast and his rather... on the nose opinion of people who criticize his writing.
Let's just say I don't think he takes criticism well.
Volume 6 is changing things up, too--the writing has improved a lot, as well as the animation! I'm excited to see where it goes, and I pray that when the show ends it will have kept its integrity.

Nice homework guys. Well written. Look forward to more RWBY related vids. And as always, Monty will always be dearly missed in this community. However toxic it may be or yet to become, it's still a giant family. And like family, will fight, but also cry together when it's needed.

Edit: just looked it up, Maya Design Studio is an entirely different thing from Autodesk Maya, which is what RT switched to after Poser
The series is really lacking in the action choreography, they need a passionate and professional person soon, one that can manage all the different weapons they use

It bothers me that so many people complain every episode that it's gone down hill since Monty passed.
He'd want it to keep going, and it'll only keep going IF fans continue to support it.
Watching this Now vs Then almost brought a proud tear to my eye as I heard how many awards it's gotten. Not because I had anything to do with making the show, I didn't. But I felt like a fan watching my sportsball team win the champion's league.
I've got the DVDs, I wear the shirts. And you can bet your arse I'll be here for however many seasons RWBY is going to bless me with.

The only thing I don't like about rwby is, ruby's voice. Like come on, she's a main character who will have moments when she has to say serious lines. Yet all I hear is an obnoxious little kid. Don't get me wrong ruby is still a child and has room to grow and mature, but I mean, you can't have the main character of a show sounding like they took 71 shots of helium before recording, imagine if they ever fight salem. Salem will have a powerfull voice that's intimidating, then you have bootleg jar jar binks trying to say an awesome one liner.
Kevin Tejada I hate to say it but I agree. I prefer how her voice was in the very first episode, it sounded high pitched, but it was normal.
But perhaps the point is, like the world we live in, that sometimes its not about how you sound. We can't really judge people by how they sound and it shouldn't be any different here

We do have people in real life who sound high pitched, maybe nasal, maybe of a tone you don't like, but that doesn't change the fact that they can be heroes/be amazing right

In 05:26, you say that Cinder makes off with Beacon's relic, but in Volume 5, Ozpin states that the Beacon relic has not been found. Even in Volume 4, when the Seeker Grimm approaches Salem with news on the aftermath of Beacon, Salem aggressively questions Cinder about Ozpin's death since the relic is unable to be found.
