Awesome video!! I’m starting a similar jointed musky sized lure and was wondering about your weight size and placement. Yours seemed to run quite well in the water. I’m unsure about where and how much weight I will use but am trying to avoid having to drill and add more after it’s finished. Is there a calculation for how much weight is needed or did you just figure out from experience? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
i love watching this vid it motivates me when im feeling lazy ........gets me in the shop building where i should be....if only it could motivate we to clean my shop now that would be something.....lol make more vids mike your good at them............toothy out
nice work as always. why don't you use a router with a round over bit after you cut the shape with the band saw? save some time instead of sanding all by hand. I, personally, like the gap between the jointed part really small. When swimming with a small gap, the wood on the two parts will hit eachother side to side and make a clacking/rattling sound. Makes the fish hear it(i think). Just make sure to cut an angle on each side of the jointed part. So that when they meet, it's flat and makes a nice sound like clapping hands. Once again, i really enjoy watching your videos and thank you very much for sharing
That's how most of my baits are made however this one was not about saving time for taking any shortcuts. Hand carving is a lot of fun and makes for something unique.

I like that table vise you sit down at and round off the corners with the planer. What’s that called? Awesome work man everything you do is precise and planned out so well. Pretty awesome jigs and work shop you have to make the process easily repeatable. Awesome stuff dude! I love the lure vids.
Thank you! Those wires serve to pin the lip to the bait. The lips get epoxied in but even epoxy could fail if it was hit hard enough or enough pressure was put on it. The pins will reinforce the epoxy and secure the lip in place.
Killer lure and great edits! But man you gotta be really careful if you're going to sand or file lead like that. The dust and fine particles that come off it are toxic if you breathe them in, you might be better off putting it in a different cavity than the hook hangers and drilling it out or chiseling it down.

I've tried a carefully sharpened chisel, a rasp and file, and a locking-blade utility knife with a fresh blade. I'm not wild about any of these and have often wondered about the effectiveness of a spokeshave. Apparently, it works well, but even at a quarter speed (!) your hands were moving so fast that I couldn't see precisely how you were using the spokeshave. And, you didn't explain it verbally. So, I didn't really learn from someone who CLEARL'Y has skills, instinct, and experience that could greatly benefit amateurs like me.

Spoke shave. Dont need an expensive one. I like Stanley from home depot. Or check out Rockler woodworking.

As long as they go through the wood, the lip, and wood again, I'm happy with it. Some guys use screws. I prefer the rods.

There are smaller versions of it. If you search lead pots you'll find what you're looking for. They're typically used for reloading ammunition.
