Nobody ever has the right to bitch about prices when they see the amount of painstaking effort that goes into these Mike. Another beauty, go get yourself a queen with it . Thank you .
Amazing work! Both the wood work and the paint job. Very inspiring. I admire the way you recovered the masking tape incident. I would probably wiped it clean and started all over. Most impressive in my opinion is how you got the action first time right, no prototyping. Tow point, bib, lead placement, buoyancy. A master at work!
I am sure you've been told this many times before, but I am very impressed with your work. Just subscribed and look forward to the next. Great Job from Alabama
Your lure is big enough to eat the lures that I'm hoping to make! Making me think again about the size of mine!!!... Not the first time that's happened 🤣😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣😂🤣😂 SUBSCRIBED... I seriously need to see how it should be done. Thank you for taking the time and expense to make this video. I've really enjoyed it and learnt a great deal about building lures. Take care my friend 👍😷👍🏴
Welcome back! This is one of the best videos ever. That lure turned out perfect and I sure hope to see a video of the fishing trip it was built for. Good luck man
@@FrettholdBaits okay awesome! Thanks! I have another question for you lol what kind of wire are you using for your through wire? Welding rod you said?? Thanks man I really appreciate the info
I own a pew shop, love the air brushing effect if you're doing battle worn paint scheme. you have some nice lures Sir. Love your shop, it looks well used as it should.
@@FrettholdBaits honestly, you could do the exact same process and I would watch it for every bait you made. I think everyone would love to see it. Different sizes, colors, little things would change and that would keep it interesting. Love the videos!
Brother I never was to interested in lure building. But you made it very interesting. You did a great job and kept my interest from start to finish.. now I like to know what you was fishing for on it and what you have caught.. GREEN MOUNTAIN CUSTOM LURES
i have the same table saw lol love that thing . i would love to get my hands on a band saw. i do have a scroll that would work with this but a band would just make life easier haha!
Bandsaw is one of the best tools for bait-making. You don't need to break the bank on one either (although I love mine which cost around $1000). My advice would be to keep your eyes peeled for estate sales and be patient. EstateSales.net is a great tool for scooping up deals!
Really really enjoyed your video and Subscribed obviously. Would 'Masking Fluid' help to mask off the gills etc? Absolutely Incredible workmanship, a professional is only a professional when he knows how to cover up his mistakes, yep you're a pro for deffinate, great to see your apprentice by your side 👍😷👍🏴

What type or brand of clear coat or epoxy are you using on this bait or all of your baits? Also where can I get a quality torch that lights in a single click such as yours. Thank you excellent work always thought out and prepared. Thank you
The topcoat I used is Amazing Clear Cast. Not only is it readily available and cheap, it's also my opinion that it's the best topcoat out there. The torch is a Bernzomatic trigger torch ($36) with map-pro gas cylinder ($13) You can find it at Home Depot.
@@FrettholdBaits I have been having issues with a “wavy” finish using amazing clear. I know you just made a whole video on the process but any specific tips for clearing? Super frustrating to put the time in and end up with a crappy, wavy finish. Apply thick, thin? Shop temp? I’m stuck at this point. Awesome videos! Thank you for taking the extra time to create and share.
I want to drill a hole in each of my pike lures so that I could add some split shots into them to make them heavier so that I could get more casting distance with them and make them dive deeper. Do you know of an epoxy or resin that I could use to seal those holes in my fishing lures? Would that 1-hour Loctite Epoxy be a good one to use? What I want is something thick enough so that I can maneuver it and shape it into the holes that I have drilled and then smooth it with a piece of sandpaper after it has dried so, therefore, I don't want anything too runny so that it would fill the entire cavity of my lures, which would only kill the sound of the lures since my lures are hollow inside. If you could recommend a product or two to me I would greatly appreciate it!
Nothing on this bait unfortunately but it did run amazing. So amazing I'm currently building 5 more. I did get a small fish on the 9" Cuda tho so that was nice I guess 😅
Nice work and great editing, fast forward is fine. my only critique is that the eyes are way to far back to be anatomically similar to a fish... if that's what you're going for. Oh and the tan color is pronounced (See Pee Ya) 🙂
This model is called the "Cuda" after barracuda and is based off of a 16" jointed barracuda I made. So the eyes are set back a little bit because the "nose" of the bait is a predatorial snout. Also, I love how eyes compliment a paint job so I go with 16mm and I like the eye set back farther because of the carved eye-socket I do, plus it leaves more material in a potential weak point of the bait. They may look a little far back if you're thinking Bait fish but theres a reason they are where they are - but I get it. As for Sepia, thank you. I feel like I've heard other people say it say-pee-ah so I must've picked that up somewhere. Now I know.
I understand that a lure resembling a musky should have the eyes placed back a ways. But when the eyes are always placed back off the nose I think they look extremely goofy. Fantastic professional work however!
hey nexxt time u use that stencial mask try some FBS GOLD BLUE OR GREEN MASK I USE IT AND FOR EVERY THING I PAINT AND NEVERY HAD THE ISSUE OF IT LIFTING MY PAINTS SORRY FOR THE CAPS SOME FONTS I HAVE HARD TIMES SEEING DUE TO GOING BLINE

Great to watch . I was shocked how much work was involved. Much love from the uk

That patch job was amazing. I’ve been there, having paint rip off. Heartbreaking.
Beautiful bait and a great recovery from a potential disaster with the decal tape. That's one for us newbies to remember.
I have been waiting for a musky lure video from one of the big boy bait makers here on RUclips.
Really Really good work dude!!!!
Love the reveal of the scales. Amazing job

Love it, thanks for making another video, may i ask what kind of wood it is? ps, good patients with the spoke shave!
The wood is western red cedar. Clear grade (no knots).
Funny , nearly exactly how I make a bait. Very nice work
Nice
I could show you a cool technique for making hollow bodies. I used to carve decoys and use a layered method.

Type of wood please and any comment on how did the lure ran and worked for you. Also, what epoxy coating do you use please.
Western Red Cedar. Lure ran great but never caught anything on it unfortunately. I use Alumalit Amazing Clear Cast as top coat.
Thanks for posting this. Made a bunch of topwater baits and wondered how that style was made. Ever go Wishmaster big?
What size bit did you use for the thru wire?
3/16 bit for through wire
Biggest I've made is 16" jointed
I didn't film the 16" jointed but theres an action video on my channel
Awsome bait
Beautiful work!! Fantastic content. Im trying to find Loctite 1 hour epoxy in Canada any recommendations
I usually get mine on Ebay
I’ve always been curious where you find that high quality cedar. I’ve struggled trying to find anything close to that.
I had to call every lumber yard in my area. it took me a very long time to find it.
Perfect👍👍👍

How long would you say this bait took to make from start to finish ? Your work is pristine!!!
I'd say about 8 hours of work not including epoxy waiting time. Took me 6 days to have it done.
Man, awesome baits! How does that clear coat hold up to muskie teeth? Is it devcon?
It's Amazing Clear Cast. Holds up great!
Amazing👍👍👍👏👏👏mimic of.

At the 19:20 mark, what kind of sealer do you use?
Liked/subscribed!! Live on prime Musky water (Niagara River). Can you add what type of wood you are using?
Yes the Niagara is a fun fishery. I'm using western red cedar.
@Fretthold Baits Thank you!! Niagara river is super fun. Don't know of you've hooked a Skie, sturgeon or Steelhead!
Wow those scales. Good tips for a noob like me
Ever tried polyurethane waterbased varnish as a mid coat?
What is the tool you are using to shave wood off and shape the bait?
It's a spoke shave. The cheap one on Amazon.
What was that in the soda bottle you sealed it with?
A Pleasure Watching This Video..
How much would a bait like this cost
always add a mid coat before you use any kind of tape....4050 or Minwax Polycrylic...I made the same mistakes tens of times
I can get away without it if I let my paint completely dry and cure. I really should've done a mid coat but I always rush these baits for the videos.
What do you paint on wood then burn it
Nothing is burned

What's is the name of the tool you use to shape?
It's called a Spoke Shave
What kind of wire do you use for the through-body?
Stainless steel welding rods. 0.0625" (1/16") Your local welding supply store will have it.
Awesome, thanks!
can't touch the lure, here scissors lol
Do you make your own hook hangers?
Yes I do.
What do you use to seal your baits?
Old family secret recipe. Any basic wood sealer or sanding sealer will do. I'm also a fan of Brotherhood Baits sealer if you can manage the fumes.
