    I hope this has helped those of you struggling and asking in the comments about rates. This video has been scripted, made, re-written and filmed so many times over the last 2 months and rates aren't the easiest thing to explain. If you have any other questions, leave them below. I'll do my best to answer! Thanks for all of the support on the channel so far this year! x

    For me, i'd say the mind-rule to go by regarding rates is quite simple.
    How fast is the MAXIMUM that you NEED the drone to yaw / roll / pitch?
    If the max you NEED for the footage you want, is cinematic, there's really zero reason to go above even as low as 300 rate.
    That sounds extremely slow compared to the defaults, but it really is no point to only "be able to use" 50% of the joystick, if you're NEVER needing full output.
    One might think, oh but what if i'm about to crash and need super fast response?
    You still dont wanna have 720 rate, because its not really gonna help you as a beginner (up to a year of experience).
    You'll just panic-flip the joystick full lock, and your drone will spin in place 3 laps and nothing will be controlled.
    Again, zero point having the rates that high.
    If you instead had slower rates, when you DO panic because you need to make an instant left strafe or whatever, your drone wont spazz out, and will still be under control.
    You really only need 720 rate (or higher) if you're LITERALLY going to be doing the same ultra fast spazzy flips and rolls as you see in the TOP SKILLED PILOTS on youtube.
    And odds are, you're not one of them (yet).
    This also applies if you have high Expo settings, because you'll still have a sharp cliff at full joystick deflection where your drone will spazz out.
    For example if you fly in LiftOff, just try to be self-aware of what your thumbs are doing most of the time.
    Are you spending 95% of the time making millimeter tiny adjustments in regular flight, trying to not over-correct by 0.2mm?
    Lower the rates. You're not using the max rates, you dont need the max rates.
    It's not bragging rights, it doesnt make you less cool to use lower rates, what matters is how much control you have.
    Check one of the most talented fpv'ers on youtube, Bobby in some of the Rotor Riot videos.
    His throttle is so "un-sensitive" that he can go 50% on the stick without the drone jittering up and down. That's how he has such precise control.
    And he just uses thumbs, not the double-finger grip. Because he doesnt need to.
    So my TLDR is just:
    Keep the rates as low as you need for FULL joystick output. (You do want full throttle output tho, if u have to save a fall)
    If you're NOT using the full "width" of the joystick, lower rates.
    If you feel you really actually need faster rolls or pitching, THEN and only then do you increase rates.

    Great setup - I have a problem with Avata 2 with the same settings it flies really well. However, when I want to do a 360 loop or a 360 roll the drone tilts a few dozen degrees and does not want to do a loop or roll. Do you have a solution? Maybe I have something set up wrong.

    I have just bought the remote controller 2 for the avata 1 after flying with the motion controller for about a year, must you make the adjustments if you only intend to fly in normal and sport?

      @@TheConnectConsultingit won’t benefit you at all. I don’t know how much this will benefit you but try going to the rates and starting with ‘m mode altitude limit’ turned on. If i remember correctly that stops you from obviously going too high but also flipping the drone. When I got the replacement avata last year I was trying to make one of these videos and it wouldn’t flip, took me a good hour to realise it was that setting.
      So you could still crash it but it’s not going to be as hard to fly. Just don’t push the sticks all the way because it won’t flip whilst you have that setting on but the moment you take it off, you’ll crash. Sometimes it’s just easier to risk it!

    Danny - Thank you for this video. Most helpful. I am currently flying my Avata with the Motion Controller (joystick) and have just received the DJI FPV Remote Controller 2. I am trying to learn to fly with the Remote Controller 2 using Liftoff and the Remote Controller 2 connected to my PC. I am wondering if I need to play with the Controller adjustments within Liftoff to get the controls a bit smoother? I'd rather crash on screen than with the Avata!

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah, these settings will be similar in liftoff but may be called something else.
      Sometimes they are called rc rate, max rate and expo. But you can work it out. Practice, practice and practice. You’ll smash it!! In terms of flying, not crashing 😉😂

    I've been flying fpv for years and the stock avata rates are horrible. Gonna try tweaking woth these settings hopefully it flies smoother. I feel like the small gimbals on the controller make it tougher to control then my QX7

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  7 месяцев назад

      Stock rates are deadly 😂 the sticks are a little small, i’m used to a Taranis so when I got this controller I was on the hunt for longer sticks. You can get them but then i was worried about snapping them in the bag so I stuck with the stock ones so i can take them off and put them in the controller

  • @BlueDroneBlues

    So, Expo and Max Rate are roughly the same thing then? Just opposites of each other. The Expo the higher you go the slower the stick momentum goes and the lower it goes the faster it rotates. Max Rate you turn the number way up and it spins much faster and lower goes slower. Sounds exactly the same?

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  7 месяцев назад +1

      No, max rate determines the max rotations that the stick will give at 100%. Regardless of the expo or centre sensitivity, if you set your max rate to be 360, it will make your drone move 360 degrees if you move the stick the whole way.
      Expo will make the response curve across the rest if the stick less linear.

      @@DannyBligh I am starting to get it now. They are 2 different things. Lowered my center a little more to help with manual take offs. I had it a little high and it just went out of control and crashed in the grass in a heart beat. Messing with the settings didn't last too long, since it was another annoying windy day. I'll have to wait till next week after the storm when things warm up again.
      Thank you for the reply. It sure has its frustrations trying to figure what works best.

    Why do you set the left joystick to stay all the way down! What benefit does that bring? Thx

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  7 месяцев назад

      To fly an fpv drone in manual (or on many other fpv drones it’s called acro) the centre of the throttle stick (the left one) doesn’t mean hover. So having it spring back to centre could throw you you off. So you stop it from being springy 🤷🏻‍♂️

  • @gimbalair
    @gimbalair 7 месяцев назад +1

    Biggest issue is people believe the rates affect normal and sport mode. Next biggest issue is there is no throttle expo or scaling and to say its a waste of time is nonsense. Especially for indoor fly throughs, thats why you have different rate profiles on switches.

    • @DannyBligh
      @DannyBligh  7 месяцев назад

      Expo effects the response with the centre stick being ‘neutral’. However centre stick doesn’t always give you a hovering/consistent altitude. It’s very dependant on camera angle, angle of the drone/speed and even wind speed. So normally you want the throttle to be linear 🤷🏻‍♂️ unfortunately that’s why me and many people I have flown fpv with over the years thing it’s pointless. Not just my opinion, but many.
      However, i agree, rates won’t do anything for normal or sport mode

    • @gimbalair
      @gimbalair 7 месяцев назад

      @@DannyBligh outdoors maybe so. Consider this though. For a muscle memory input coupled with pitch for a consistent level speed and flight by having some scaling on the the throttle by introducing some expo you are increasing the margin for micro throttle movements not to be influential.
      Outside totally get it and mine are linear for sure, its more reassuring knowing theres nondesdband
