Not only can Matt make videos about eating sardines, but also videos about not eating sardines. Versatility.
He's a liar and you're a liar.
He opened the last can. - title lied
He ate the false 'dines - you lied
@@HankBukowski haha alright
Actually you’re all wrong. The last can was actually herring 😀
@@HankBukowski Have you ever ate a sar-dee?
That literally encompasses all videos in existence, that's nutz!
I almost ended up working at the Brunswick fish plant. The amount of seagulls hanging around the parking lot was a sight to behold
A scene right out of Alfred Hitchcock's film, The Birds!
The Black's Harbour plant?
As part of the herrings faction, I am OUTRAGED at seeing precious herrings mislabeled as lowly sardines.
The labeling of this stuff is so ridiculous. The British say a sardine is a small pilchard. The WHO says there's like 10 species that can be called sardine, one of them is herring. Yet the species are different. A herring is not a sardinella or sardinelops, its a herringus! And yet we call the spratus spratus "bristling".
i WAS ALSO CONFUSED BY THIS, I PERCIEVE HERRING TO BE THE BETTER FISH WHY WOULD YOU LIE ABOUT WHAT IT IS?!
@@Musty_Moth because Americans like myself think all cans like that are sardines
@@graniteamerican3547 I admire that introspection though, usually americans will then also go on to insist the rest of the world is wrong and ignore the fact it was the US that changed the language at some point :D
@@ZeffAU Well, Where I come from a herring has nothing to do with fish.
I get mine in water, olive oil, or hot Sause.
For some reason this showed up on my feed and took me down a rabbit hole that I never expected I would go down
the youtube algorithm strikes again on my end
Cans I'll never open (promptly opens and proceeds to scarf) Very nice...
Soooo funny!!! How does he get this much personality? How does he have so much passion for sardines?
Just does man I dunno
I just ate my first can of sardines. I thought it would be disgusting but I got over it pretty quickly and liked it
Welcome to the canned ocean meat (club?)!
The first fix is.....
"the handsome end of a false dichotomy" excellent! i only hope i can end up there
Im 100% convinced he is the lost third member of Chromeo. 😆
Nothing ruins my day like soybean oil
Check this deal out - my mother mentioned my grandfather would squirt plochmans yellow mustard into his can of sardines and mash it all up with the oil. I tried it and it's fantastic. Going to use that method for the more bland seasons and wild planets.
Cool idea! I will try that tomorrow.
@@ytkarl7777 scoop it onto a saltine for full effect
Wild planets? Man's going to space with canned fish
Wild planets? Bro what
@@barahngWild Planets is a canned fish brand. 🐟🪐❤
i've been binge-watching this channel for 2 hours now. please don't even start a discussion about this one, just take it as i say it: this is the best youtube channel out there!
Freedom of speech is the best thing you will never have.
I will happily take it at your word. I’m loving this deen fiend and his jolly energy
Matt, please know I would watch you eat regular old pilchards for hours. I need the Matt Carlson seal of approval for every can I myself purchase.
So glad the Brunswick fish was good! That stuff comes from my local area! Makes me proud! Also your channel is making me want to finally try some canned fish! Thanks for the reviews!
I had a tin of Brunswick fileted sardines in hot sauce today. It had been years since I had a tin of sardines. Started eating them when I was a kid. My dad introduced them to me. He bought Brunswick because he was from St. Stephen, New Brunswick.
I’ve been to the Brunswick factory, it’s wild watching the women there processing all the fish with scissors.
Hey Matt! I've been here since the beginning and you're awesome! You even gave me suggestions for recipes and those were dope.... last episode I felt like you were kinda down... but this episode I can tell you caught your groove😊 I'm a happy, proud fan and viewer!!
The Megaman Music really added suspense
Those Freshé things are such wild rip offs. I was actually psyched to see them on shelves at first, I tried all of them and nonnnnnnnne of them are remotely worth the money--I think I was expecting a higher ratio of fish to other stuff. Ended up paying like $5 for chickpeas. Also they're so tiny, you'd need like three to tide you over as a meal.
Damn. Matt out here blessin' us with frequent new content after his lengthy sabbatical. 👍
Sabbatical is also a good RUclips channel. I think on the last video he rented a fat person and a girlfriend in Tokyo.
i sub to alot of channels, but you're the only channel that i ALWAYS click a video and simultaneously say "damn i wish his vids were longer" AND "i respect that he gets to the point and doesnt make long drawn out videos" props man, love ya
The channel I didn't know I needed. Thank humanity for the ounce of originality it has left !
Thanks for keeping it clean, Matt. My littles (7 & 4) enjoy watching with me. They have even gotten enthusiastic about sardines and eat them with us. If you kept the cuss words in, they’d be missing out!
Do they say "what r we even doing here??"
@@crybabychrononaut ...we anticipate it any day now.
I love it when he steps out and goes amongst his gamer buddies..🤔🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bought a pack of brunswick at wally world a few weeks ago, aside from the weird herring/sardine fiasco they're awesome. Probably my second favorite fish now behind king oscar mackerel
I do the same, my very favorite is King Oscar mackerel in olive oil. I have to try very hard to not eat a can of day. I also like and eat quite a bit of the Brunswick herring fillets and Olive oil. Very good.
These are great dog - thank you so much - love your style of making videos - and you got me into sardines. Yahuah Bless!
I mistakenly bought a 12 pack of King Oscars in Mustard.
After 1 pack, I realized I will NEVER be opening the other 11 - YUKK
Mix in with rice or mashed potatoes
@@jimibaked4235 I feel like that would just extend the nastiness and make more gross stuff to eat. These are REALLY 🤢
I cant blame you i love sardines but mustards ones i dont
Ya mustard was terrible IMO. Mustard is for burgers and dogs.
I even tried using my mustard separately on plain sardines and didn’t like it.
Hmmm. If I had to get rid of those I would Maybe like smear them on some oven toasted flat bread. I think that would be pretty good.
love the brunswick in mustard and dill
same here man its so good
That Freshé packaging is honestly pretty...fresh. There's not enough exciting product design in the world of canned fish.
Smoked oysters in soybean oil are delicious.
As always, a great video!
No way! i’m about to open up a casual can of wild planet dines. There are no coincidences!
LMFAO I somehow knew before even watching the video he'd somehow break and open one by the end.
I just want to say bro, you’re a youtube genius
I cracked up when u ate the herring!!😂❤️
When I heard r/cannedsardines I laughed out loud 😂 good to know there’s a thriving canned sardine community out there.
For what it's worth we actually are accepting of all tinned fish
The first "sardines" I ever had was #5 and I think it hooked me up and gave me a solid choice for keto
What a nice surprise 🙂
Man- don't think I've been this early before.
Cheers, Matt!
Love ur vids Matt! Dont eat 'em, I have a few that I just aint gonna open and will be used for bait for pests and varmints and real edible seafood one day. Great side video!
I’ve had the Roland’s. They were pretty good. One of my favorite packages honestly something about the minimalist design makes me think they should stay pristine and unopened
Yes! The graphic design is really beautiful
Loved this! I'm happy that atleast one of the cans was opened!
The first can of sardines I ever ate were those Titus ones, so I can't hate on them they got me into the game!
And I wanna try that Freshé can! It was talking to me
He should give these to railroad bums or hobos.
I would not be disappointed in that last can, I like canned herring!
I eat a lot of canned herring too, Polar makes a good peppered tin fish. Less tails in kippers, Im just not a tail fan... get it, tail fan!
Never open?! Something's Fishy! What next, peddling Hasbro sardine puzzle games in 1974?! You're a tough can to peel, Mr. Carlson.
Bro, Titus is so good!
T!ts then d!e 😂😂😂
Yea, I only eat water or olive oil. I get angry when the skin or bones are missing. Wish they would leave the tails.
I would love to go to the local international food store with you. That would be fun!!!
Lmao great video man 😂
You have taken Sardines and Herring to another level. Lol.
The Brunswicks aren't bad and they sell them at Walmart for like 1.89 a can so not a bad price at all.
The version with Jalepeno peppers is pretty darn tasty. Probably upper B tier or A tier, but not S.
Who are you? And why are you so good?
I had another colored tin of Titus and found them good. ate one can, made pupu with another. Not had them since as the store stopped carrying them. I hoped to try Brunswick one day after seeing a video on them. Turns out the local grocer carries them. Glad I restrained myself and only bought 2 tins. Nasty! Mine were different than the can you showed.
Titus are actually decent. But I'm a pilchard enthusiast. Lol
BRAVO!
the thought of you not opening the butterflies was driving me insane! well played
Brilliant 😊!
The Roland with the chili pepper is very good!
The butterflied herring would just be boneless but still tasty. 😋. I eat Brunswick all the time in Canada.
The kipper snacks by Brunswick used to be with Herring on the label. It now says sardines in the label since Covid. I figure that is because there are apparently many different fish species under the umbrella term sardine (according to the CBC Brunswick video I watched today) so it is easier for production to just call them sardines.
I absolutely loathe Brunswick. Heinous.
@@jdamsel8212 I don't have much variety where I live. It is generally Brunswick or some gross Chinese packaged sardines.
I grew up on Brunswick so it is what I know. I know there are much better options out there (I've tried a few since finding this channel) and would love to afford to eat them all the time. Sadly, scarcity of coming across quality sardines and the price keeps me going back to my staple Brunswick's.
I like Brunswick sardine fillets, the ones we get up here in Canada come in different packaging, and are sardines.
Brunswick are definitely some of the worst sardines you can buy. You need to branch out my friend
Damn…. I’ve been missing out, you inspired me to crack my first tin of deenz, their delicious. Hands down. Thank you
Thank you, Sardine Papa
Dude!!! Titus sardines are so good, they are maybe my favorite brand. You really should try them, flavor is exquisite
Love this dude!
I had some Titus deenz in sunflower oil (a l'huile de tournesol) yesterday and were pretty good.
I think those Brunswick sardines are great! The fish is firm and very tasty. I can't find them in the stores around where I live.
Those were my go to for years
They’re one of the only types I can get from my local Walmart neighborhood market. I like the dill and mustard with a splash of crystal hot sauce.
"Wild Caught". Half way surprised it doesn't say "Gluten Free" as well like literally every single other product that never had Gluten in the first place.
You'll be relieved that my videos are free of trans fats!
@@CannedFishFiles soy oil is just as bad as trans fats 👀😁
Fun fact: thats called Green Washing. The original term applied to things like "non-gmo" and "organic" because these were buzzwords targeted at health-centric buyers. If you're saying "Gluten free corn" or "non-gmo water" though, you're toeing your way into deceptive marketing territory - not because these things aren't what they say, but because the operate on the premise of selling it as a special feature rather than the norm for that product.
Some companies have gotten better about this in that they no longer have a big green logo saying "gluten free!", many products now just have a humble note saying "a naturally gluten free option", but others still greenwash by relying on a consumer's ignorance of the product to upsell quality without doing anything extra.
Wild-Caught sardines would be an example - use words that evoke a sense of food being natural, healthy, untainted by human hands and the marketing department sees dollar signs.
@@Your-Least-Favorite-Stranger I bet you're fun at parties. Yes....the entire point was that products now say "Gluten Free" when there was never Gluten in those vegetables, etc, whatever to begin with.
@@jdkgcp My point was its such a common practice at this point its acquired its own definition.
And jokes on you, I don't think I've ever been to a party 😎
(its probably for the best tbh. I have known for quite some time I'm not a party person, I'm best left to my own devices away from other people)
Idk why I’m here but I’ve never seen someone so passionate about canned fish… also the soy and oestrogen thing is a myth
Herring! The old Switcheroo! You gotta watch these guys.
this is where you get that crowd that is always saying that all sardines are herring!
Herring in jars not cans is fantastic
You are right. You never open those sardines because those were herrings. 😊
Recently picked up some dines for the first time after binging your videos out of curiosity. Aaaand now Im a dine guy. ❤
I wonder how many people Matt has turned into deen-feendz??? Not all heroes wear capes.
Haven’t had the balls to try sardines yet, but I’m sitting here popping my tinned fish cherry with a can of Arroyabe tuna in oil. Got my chopsticks, got my soy sauce and Patu Puti vinegar mix in a tiny bowl. A bottle of Mic’s Chili Inferno Sauce and life is good.
There was no way we were going to let you not open those mock sardines! The suspense was killing me!
How can you make us interested in them? You answered your own question with this video. Laughed my tail off
You should branch out into potted meat, Devilled Ham is such a Treat!
this music is just taking me places man
Now these MUST be opened!
Lol those exact Brunswick things are what I ordered for a first try cause they were like 5 dollars for 12 cans after coupon and 5 dollar promo i had on amzn
"Trying to end up on the handsome end of a false dichotomy" - story of my life!
My getting excited when he in fact decided to open the Brunswick
The other day I straight up went to buy some sardines because of you and ngl def a strong smell but I mean they were pretty tasty
I would LOVE to have that Roland sardine box to use in my artwork.
I've had the aztec ensalada before and honestly it was good to me! little apprehensive about the thai/sriracha one
I absolutely dislike fish and sea food, but I cannot stop watching…
Titus is delicious in my opinion. I get them from the African store in Springfield, MO. A bit plain, but not bad at all.
Another Mathew Carlson video on this afternoon? You spoil me so.
A whole channel dedicated to CANNED fish? Kind of cool, actually!
Hey Matt!
Your channel caught me by surprise when a video of yours was recommended to me - I gave it a shot and was surprised how enjoyable and relaxing your content is.
I've always been put off from the idea of Sardines and any canned fish that wasn't Tuna, but I decided to give it a go after engaging with your channel for the last month or so!
There were a few different brands I purchased from my local store, which one that I believe you would absolutely dislike as it was a cheap tin ( $0.90 AUD) is from a brand called "Seacrown"
Would be curious if you would check it out for a laugh or curiosity, perhaps a funny experience for the viewer where you would be trying out cheap brands to see if any actually shine through.
Anyway, appreciate ya - keep rockin'.
He is the bomb
I got a couple of tins of the Freshe salmon ensalada after seeing your video flick of the brand. I think there might have been a whole thimble full of actual salmon in there amongst the canned shrubbery. That was a big fat in russian "I am disappoint". Brunswick on the other hand, even though they're Canadian eh, I've always been pleasantly surprised by the quality for the cheapness price. I like to be liking the Brunswick sprats in olive oil with jalapeno. Super wombat fish goodness. Finally, for those that only eat their dines canned in water...those people are like the couple that goes to a nice restaurant and tells the waiter that "we don't eat meat, dairy, gluten, or nuts. What should we get?" "How about the F out!!!" Muchas gracias for taking culinary dine hits for the team and documenting it all Matthew. Mahalo amigo!
I think “mr. J” just dissed Matt! What is he even doing here????
Sardines are part of the herring family. However, semantically, nobody expects herring to be ever referred to as sardines
I like Roland anchovies. 😎
i have the titus and brunswick sardines as daily eaters. great great great
The Brunswick herring can ain't too shabby. They are slightly expensive in my area at $3/can
I thought you were legit gonna skip that last can of "sarherring" and leave us all dying in olive oil..... 👀💥🙂 THANKS MATT
I thought he was gonna leave us hanging on that too. But Matt ain't like dat
@@jamstagerable Word, Matt's a real one!
Ugh water deens. That's like hanging a blank canvas on the wall and calling it art.
It's like washing your feet with your socks on...
"The Handsome End Of A False Dichotomy" was the name of my prog band's second EP.
I’m pretty sure some Brazilian students worked out how to farm sardines for farmed tuna feed
With regard to the Roland Sardines, there are some regions in Africa that are Spanish-speaking. The port of Ceuta, bordered by Morocco, is a department of Spain. Also, the country of Western Sahara, bordered to the north by Morocco, is also Spanish-speaking. These are small regions, but I can see how a cannery located in these regions might label in Spanish. Of course, if the cannery is located in Spain itself, I'm sure there's a Spanish label requirement. I've found Roland to be a very reliable brand, though their branding isn't sexy at all. To me Roland means the food is good, if not very good. Just not sexy. Cento is another brand that occupies this friend-zoned space. Thanks very much for the videos, Matt!
There is no country called Western Sahara.
" the handsome end of a false dichotomy " noice1
I love canned fish quite a bit...especially sardines, anchovies, and mackerel. It takes something very interesting for me to buy any cans of fish that aren't in brine. Like...Aldi had a mango-pepper herring that I liked...then never saw again because Aldi is allergic to consistency. But oil? No way. Mackerel, in particular, is a fatty enough fish that adding oil to it is entirely unnecessary.
Dude, yo dude! I can't freakin' beleieve you did a video on the Brunswicks. I just bought this can from my supermarket last week and couldn't believe my eyes nose or mouth either when it so obviously was a Herring and NOT sardines. Now I am totally not complaining because I dig kippers and these were really freaking tasty I thought. And at $1.99 I am going to stock up for sure. How do they get away with calling these Sardines I wonder??
