if you buy them in spring water try sprinking a little CALIFORNIA olive oil and a little sea salt. Yum!
I grew up eating sardines with my dad and when staying the weekend with grandparents. Classic old school staple in my grandpas lunch pail.
I am new to the canned fish game but have been enjoying it. So far my favorite way to eat them is I'll get the ones packed in oil then I'll splash some sherry vinegar in the can. It adds some acidity and makes it a pretty nice snack.
I've never had the Season ones in water, but their regular sized ones in extra virgin olive oil are pretty good imo. Packaging is interesting too, they have a foil top instead of the standard pull tab.
Thanks, I think I have the ones you're talking about. We're gonna give Season another shot one of these days.
Yeah! I have Seasons in EVOO, they are much better than the ones that you had in the video, I was very surprised by the how mushy the water packed ones are. I've tried sardines packed in Mustard sauce, hot sauce, tomato sauce, soy bean oil and olive oil. Olive oil are the best. King Oscar are probably a bit better than Seasons. I've had Chicken of the Sea that were really good! $1 a can and about 12 or 13 small sardines per can.
The best sardine-test vid I've seen......when his cat showed up, I laughed out loud !!
Buy good - ones - I prefer 2 layer tiny tots or King Oscar.
Open can - put in small bowl - toss big scoop of jalapenos on top.
Prep time 30 seconds.
It's just my opinion, but I don't think sardines and ice cream are a match. Believe it or not, I know someone who thinks they are.
the best are Pinhais Sardines,, they are EXPENSIVE though. Its nice to have them a couple times a year. Try them if you havent already.
Bumble Bee, Brunswick and King Oscar are all owned by the same Company, FCF Seafood Co Ltd with their headquarters on Taiwan. Brunswick sardines are caught in Canadian waters, King Oscar's are caught in the North Sea and Baltic Sea. Bumble Bee's sardines used to be caught in Maine waters, but that plant closed in 2010 . FCF also owns the sardine cannery in Poland
Thanks for the info!
Ive never tried sardines but I grew up on Cayuga Lake in Upstate NY and during the Smelt run we'd take seine net and catch as many as we could to salt and smoke. Im going out to grab a few cans to try today.
We're definitely gonna need "What're We Even Doing Here?!", "Mushy Boi", & "Throw it on a Salad" Merch
Love this GENIUS Channel
Matthew Carlson's IQ is far beyond the required level to be considered genius
Haaaa, Dragoon, where have you been all my life? I need to get you on the phone and explain this to my boss!
Merch is definitely the endgame in the youtube-verse, it seems. Jeff, you must be one of Justin's buddies, right? From the USAF or just an excellent basketball player?
@@CannedFishFiles Oddly enough it's my real name, an Ellis Island simplification we think. Though my dad and grandpa were both pilots in the Air Force. Life is strange these days, your videos are helping. Thank you!

What am I even doing here? Oh yeah - came for the sardines and now I’m here for Matt.
For me, the Season Skinless & boneless sardines in olive oil are the very best. I have never had any other variety of Season brand.
6:43 the cats like "hey, you sharing?"
I like the ones from Wild Planet. Have some from Portugal coming I’m looking forward to trying.
The Nuri sardines from Portugal were the best I’ve had so far.
@@Deodoto what are your thoughts on wild planet sardines in extra virgin oil? Is it as firm as they claim.
@@nelzelpher2088 They’re not bad, the best I’ve found from the supermarkets.
@@Deodoto Just tried them, I like them more than the Oscar brand. Nice mild big fish. Chicken of the sea is three times cheaper though.
I like the King Oscar brand with the olive oil, especially grilled. Great food either way.
You cook them?
@@briancooley8777 Very seldom; I usually eat them from the can.
I like any that are with green chili's, hot sauce, mustard, dill, or oil period
@@briancooley8777eat them as a side I have no idea what tastes so good about them
I'm watching a video on "common sardines" and it involves a dude picking at tinned fish while looking absolutely like the type of guy to eat sardines and say "that's pretty good" with some of the goofiest ambient music in the background
From another sardine / sprat / herring lover, love your channel and thanks for bringing some exposure to this.
Love my king oscar tiny tots'...
As for some pep on the ball, I use Franks!
.
Canned sardines are underrated, they can taste amazingly good even better than some restaurant fish
Anchovie
Well spoken, curiously entertaining guy...talking about canned fish like it's a lost novelty 👍
King Oscar kipper snacks are my favorite treat.
4:22 I would never, EVER buy sardines in water!
The king Oscar evoo with lemon are a treat if you find them
Matthew, I love Sardines and highly value you no holds bar honest appraisals. Your honesty is wonderful, without sucking up to any brand. Keep the evaluations current and coming
Brunswick.the best saradines in the world.I've been eating them for over fifty years.breakfast. salad.onions.tomatoes.cucumber.pepper.mayonnaise. lime and parsley.
Agree my favorite. Been eating them since I was little
I fell in love with Brunswick and Bumblebee sardines in mustard as a kid in the early 90's. Just ate a can while watching your video. lol
Someone recently turned me onto Spanish sardines . I think the name brand is Mike’s or mikeys. Something like that. They are in a glass jar . I don’t think I can ever go back now . I just love them. They are only found at Asian stores , at least around my area anyway. They run about $4.50 and they come in Spicy and mild . Oh they are so good
Mikey's, noted, thanks.
I am now my mother. Hated sardines as kid, but one trip to Portugal I am hooked
Seeing how organized that room is ... you know the first he does right when the camera stops rolling is pick up that empty box he threw
Yeah, I have a pretty low tolerance for clutter!
lol this dude being food critic and reviewer simultaneously 😂
Why he threw the second box on his couch instead of his little coffee table in front of him is an unknown phenomenon 😅🤣
Honestly have no idea how I got here but I’m 5 videos deep and am now compelled to hit the subscribe button so gj man lol
I haven't had Sardines since I was like 5 years old. I wanna try them again.
Same! ill race you!
@@doomzy8622 1 yr old comment. You were probably late in the race.
Same. One of my memories of my grandpa was eating sardines while leaning on his knee. I haven't had them since (I am 55) but I want to try them now!
The music at 1:40 is rad
Wtf, full of bangers!
For me all are the same..if i have to choose I' ll choose the cheeper one first ! Suggestion: mix one can of sardines with one can of tuna chunks together..this is heaven!
This my first of your videos, and you have a great sense of humor.
You also inspired me to give them a try!
I’m getting into canned fish and you’re really helping me along the way thanks man
What a great video. I love sardines. “Working man sardines” lol. I like it
bro you make me LAUGH lmaoo
My Dad always ate the grocery store sardines packed in hot sauce. Don't remember what brand but they were pretty good, especially as a soup side on untoasted bread
My intro to sardines was Bumblebee, but I personally think the King Oscar are much better.
King oscar is hands down best sir dean lmao. Boneless skinless
You don't want boneless skinless you loose so much nutrition, such a huge mistake!
I prefer them from poland or Canada and in water. I usually sprinkle with sea salt or hot sauce. And usually get beach cliff from the dollar tree lol.
Okay, I am back again. I came to watch what you said about the Brunswick sardines. I had my first tin of these. It was the sardine fillets gourmet style in olive oil, which turned out to be herring. I decided to put it on a whole wheat tortilla, with some spicy hot brown mustard and crispy onions. The herring was mild but it turned out to taste really good.
Cant they come up with a better way to package them besides being packed in a sardine can?
King oscar eat those daily 🙌🏼
Hey
Do those taste the best?? I'm trying to start eating them!!! I love tuna and mackerel but sardines taste terrible.
In portugal I often buy a cheap can of sardines just to snack when I get home from grocery shopping, they cost abour 1€, used to be about 0.75€ before covid. For the price they are good, but then again, it's still portuguese sardines. Also mackerel, squid, octopuss, etc. Sometimes I mix with some pickles or bean sprouts
Man, I don't even eat sardines, but I can't stop watching your videos. You have to be some kind of wizard

4.25 ounces of Northern Catch brand sardines either packed in water or sunflower oil for .89 cents at Aldi. 20 grams of protein for under a dollar and packed with Omega-3. You can't beat that with a stick! I make sardines mixed with salmon and zucchine, mushrooms and tomatoes with spaghetti. Delicious and healthy! Seasoned with oregano and basil in the sauce. Sardines Italian style! Saute onions and garlic in olive oil and butter, add zucchine and mushrooms, season with salt, oregano and basil them add fish and tomatoes, cook till sauce is done. Makes a beautiful sauce for spaghetti. One of my favorite dishes
Aldi!
Why did you tell them about Aldi! Now there won't be any for us!!!! Moroccan in sunflower seed oil. Yummy! I add my own EVOO to it...
Word sardine is named of an island in Italy not far called Sardinia but the sardines there are caught by many foreign countries that go there or the sardines are every where in oceans
I just tried my first sardines today
They were the kind in mustard
They were good
Now I I’m addicted
Try to mix them with a tomato sause, onion, calamata olives, parsley put them on some toasted bread. Pure addiction!
King Oscar Mediterranean. Pure sardine addiction.
Why are your sardine videos so lit?!
King Oscar..

Shit dudes I hit rock bottom, I’m over here enjoying watching this dude eat stank ass sardines. Life is rough
Yup. Got laid off. Decided to hit the social security at my age. What,? I enjoy canned food. So let's watch this and see what happens. Bubble bee is good and available. King Oscar is a tasty herring brand. Being single it must work out well for this guy.
I was sent here by the softcore adult film coffee man
The Hoff?? If I could get his audience to dig on fish I could quit my day job...
Season is my go to. Love it spread on toast with good mustard and is much cheaper at Costco
I wanna know how you flipped them chopsticks like that !?? When you picked em up
Fun fact Morocco produces half of all canned sardines worldwide. We also call it the poor man fish because we can get a kilo of fresh sardines for 1$ to 2$ depending on the time or year.
Bought my first couple of cans today because of this channel. Not my first cans ever, but because I want to do a tasting session, with chopsticks, and savor the experience.
I typically dump them onto a plate. I feel like a kitty eating out of the can.
Now there's an idea...
Hahahahahahahahahahhahahahha I get my cat canned fish😍😂😂. Sometimes
Our local grocery store carries Reese (in oil). I like them the best. Sardines are any of several species of small or young herring.
I usually add them to my healthier microwavable lunches & mix them in. It helps to fill me up because some of those microwavable lunches are meatless. Prince Edward in olive oil or Tiny Tots brands is what I get.
Yes i feel ya. They're good but not filling
