    I remember the first time i tried sardines, I was in Woolworths (popular store in Australia) when I stumbled upon the canned fish section, I got curious, and bought a 90¢ can of dines in tomato sauce, it was in my room for a while after that cause I was scared to eat them, but one night, I got bored and decided to eat them, but before I did, I looked up 'how to eat sardines ' (as most beginners do), and stumbled upon this glorious channel, which guided me through my first can. To be honest, I didn't really enjoy them, but, I was willing to have them again. I've had many more since that day, and my relationship with sardines has grown stronger. Nowadays it's kinda hard to get through a day without them.
    Thanks for introducing me to this delightful treat, Matt!

      What sardines do you recommend as a fellow Aussie?

  • @christopher7567
    @christopher7567 3 месяца назад +4

    The reason most of the skinless and boneless sardines come from Morocco is because there’s a species of sardines that are native to the coast of Morocco that are born without skin or bones, they also can themselves after reproducing.

      KO is certainly NOT on the shelf at every place that sells deenz here in good old Los Angeles, CA! Here, in grocery stores I can find Kroger, Season and Wild Planet. If I go to the "99" cent store, (where everything cost $1.25 now) I can find and Polar and Beach Cliff. If I go to the liquor store (to get that 40oz to wash dem' deenz down) its going to be Beach Cliff. The only place I always find KO is at CVS and they will also have Bumble Bee.

      For the record, their kippers are all right, and the smoked oysters aren't terrible either. I think the sprats are alright too. I think pilchards are out of their wheelhouse, and they just got it wrong with these.

    I'm a new subscriber to your channel, and previously I was just picking up cans of Herrings/Mackerel/Sardines in Lidl or Aldi to have as a quick lunchtime work snack, usually supermarket own brand, but seeing some of the higher end brands you've been eating on your channel has whetted my appetite for something a bit more deluxe.
    Greetings from Ireland (we've got great seafood here), how did you become so enthusiastic about tinned fish if you don't mind me asking?

    One of the large Asian grocers in my area (Va Bch, Va) carries an assortment of Moroccan sardines. So far, all have been good. I tried skinless boneless once and it was King Oscar. Didn't care for them. Recently tried Wild Planet. ugh! Thankfully the crows in the neighborhood liked them.

    Nice review. I like to be liking sprats or brislings much more than pilchards. The boneless skinless varieties while okay, don't do anything for me and I don't buy them. I want all the skin and bones to get all the health benefits and textures that I enjoy. I eat 5 cans a week rotating KO, Brunswick, and Polar which are all relatively inexpensive and good quality. Good enough right out of the can with a side of whole pickled jalapenos. On another note, I reckon those boneless skinless you tried in this video would have been heaps better with that Espinaler sauce! Mahalo Matthew!

    Hi Matthew, thanks for the review. I don’t like skinless and boneless sardines much, as their flavor profile is lost due to extra processing (just like beer in a glass bottle is better than beer in a can).
    My favourites are in sunflower oil with lemon or /refrigerated/ in tomato sauce (these are super refreshing). Perhaps you should be doing a review of these too as a follow up?😎

      Sometimes beer is better from a can, the light can't mess with it. I've had some beers (usually in green bottles) that smelled and tasted like a skunk's asshole, but you try the same beer from a can and it's fine.

    • @YevhenRawrs
      @YevhenRawrs 7 месяцев назад +1

      Beer in a glass bottle being better is placebo effect, or you've just enjoyed the beers you've happened to have in a bottle more than the ones you've had in a can.
      Also maybe you like the experience of just having a heavier thing in your hand, there's more pomp and circumstance to a glass bottle than a can. You can weaponize a glass bottle in a pinch. A glass bottle is a nice thing, for sure.
      They're also heavy as all hell and tend to be more costly, though, and UV rays can damage the product within, which is why ISB bottles tend to be dark brown, like some chemicals bottles are, to prevent this. I don't think the green bottles do the job as well, and clear ones are just a dumb idea.

    • @izidorsuc
      @izidorsuc 7 месяцев назад

      @@YevhenRawrs It’s not placebo. I’ve worked at one of the bigger breweries in our country as a part time worker(student). Preservation methods (pasteurization etc) are different for cans, glass bottles and kegs. Cans need more preservation hence the taste is worse.
