Born and raised in Japan, Japanese mother, I grew up eating these canned fish as well as the canned Kabayaki Unagi (freshwater Eel), and I'm in my mid 60s now, and whenever I get homesick for Japan I crack open a can of these misoyaki or kabayaki fish and serve on a hot bed of steamed white rice along with some home made Japanese pickles. Here I Hawai'i we are blessed with many Japanese markets, so these fish are easy to find, and quite affordable. Thanks for the review.
I'm in San Jose California myself and it's decent for Asian markets, but I'm returning to Hawaii in less than a year and it will be nice being home .... for starters everything's going to be about 25%-30% cheaper even going to the same markets like Nijiya and Marukai.
@@BobJones-dq9mx they say that but no ones actually checking lol. Just dig through a chinese canned fish product and see how many nonfish particles you find
I went from looking for something to jazz up the can of sardines I had in my pantry to watching at least 10 videos on sardines and canned fish. I really gotta say that this is quality content even though it’s so niche. Very well done, hats off 👍🏽👍🏽
Before I started watching this channel I would never have thought about touching Sardines. Then I tried them, and now I'm hooked......... I just wish we had the variety here in South Africa that you have in the States. Especially these Japanese ones, look amazing.
Have never really been into sardines or canned fish for that matter but man I’m about ready to start my little journey after watching about 10 straight videos . There’s so many options but this guy knows his stuff and is really informative about where to start . And there’s a whole sardine eating community I didn’t know about that’s so awesome .
I can tell you are an expert by the strength in your fingers from opening all those cans, as well as your moustache which acts as an oil absorbent... brilliant, just brilliant 👏👏👏

Buddy, this is gold. You should definitely list affiliate links to purchase the cans you taste if they are available online: I'd totally purchase them and you might get something for that.
What are we even doing here? Watching another high quality fishy feast, of course. Thank you, my dude! Ps: as always love the vibes and must say production, editing, locations are 👌🏽. Pps: lol or vice versa!
Saw your sardine taste test video on r/DeepIntoRUclips and had to subscribe. The production quality is great and looking forward to watching more of your videos! Keep it up man
Man, you are straight up making me hungry ! These Japanese Canned fish all looks so damn good Im gonna faint.! I love sardines from Korea too, The Japanese are the masters of the sauce for sure...Thanks for making all hungry...
Just when I thought I had seen everything on RUclips, then I got fed your channel, and what a delight! I found that the best way to enjoy a sunny day in the city is to take the train out to Far Rockaway, buy me a can of sardine at the polish market with some bread, and just listen to the ocean. I just came back fro Japan this week, and now I wish I had explorer some local canned fish while I was there!
Just got back from the Japanese market with a new stock of sardines and immediately sat down and looked through your channel and you review every can that I have! Dining right along with you today. Agreed, these are all very delicious with a slight advantage to the miso paste sardines 🤤
Thank you Matthew! Very interesting. btw i also love canned fish, usually I only have King Oscars, it's cool to see what they have on the other side of Earth!
Like someone else said on one of your other vids , sardines are one of the best bang for your buck. They are healthy , tasty, and inexpensive. You rock bro! Love every single video you’ve made.
I'm watching this because I went to a Japanese grocer and randomly bought a can of saury. Trying to figure out what i should eat it with...I guess straight out of the can it is, lol.
Never hurts to try it straight. I eat the Japanese ones on rice; rice sops up the sauce nicely. Usually for breakfast. Then I can throw on an egg or some natto.
I’ve been watching tons of your videos over the past week. From time to time throughout the experience, I’d wonder what you’d look like like without your iconic mustache. I was not prepared for this episode- some sort of taboo has been crossed.
What am i even doing here? This guys great niche. I stumbled across this stuff because i was just looking for ideas for canned sardines my girlfriend bought but stumbled upon him. love the personality
I just bought a can of the Miso Sardines. Also cans of kimchi sold at same store. I tried some tomatoe sauce sardines and added the kimchi in the can after the deens were gone....Excellent.
A bowl of microwave rice, a can of the miso sardines or saba kabayaki, and a little green onion or kimchi, and everything's good. If you have an extra 5 minutes, moving the fish and sauce to a little folded aluminum foil boat and putting it in the toaster oven on broil makes it extra good on rice.
You should try the Chinese canned fish, they are also really good and different, especially the canned dace with salted black beans. They are best served on rice though, cause it’s very salty.
I can't believe people still eat with chop sticks 🤣🤣
Why ?

Theyre very precise and gentle. Perfect for this, or even cooking some dishes when you have to flip stuff. Forks really muck up the fish as well.
