- Patagonia has established a frequent presence on this here Fish Files. Finally, I get a little perspective on the wild world of anchovies! Will I #eatthebait? Taste my review!
On test:
Patagonia Provisions Lemon Olive Spanish White Anchovies in EVOO
Patagonia Provisions Roasted Garlic Spanish White Anchovies in EVOO
Matt, one day the algorithm is gonna hit you. You’re gonna make it big one day bro
It is known.
Destiny.
Honestly, I must agree. It’s a blessing I came across this channel. I hope more fish lovers find this as well as create new fish lovers. This is high quality content.
This is the ground floor of a skyscraper lads!
He will run put of things to review seafood wise tho if he hasn't already ,, he needs to branch out
You drain Cento anchovies, chop them, saute them with garlic, onion, black pepper, red pepper flakes, and use it for your soup starter. Can't be beat!
Ok, this one has my mouth watering!
Add angel hair pasta to this or whatever other pasta..yum
Don't faint.Let her kiss and make it better.CUT!Uh,excuse the pun Matt.🤔
THATS HOW I FOUND THIS CHANNEL!! I was trying to see if I can use canned sardines to create a Japanese stock called Iriko! you have answered my question! they call for dried sardines. but I really have a hard time getting Japanese ingredients. so THANKS!
unfortunately I just ate the can I was gonna use so I will need another. I thought I needed dry? I hope I do not mess up the Umami its said to create?
Suffering a nasty flesh wound in pursuit of canned fish exploration for the rest of mankind. You have my respect, sir. Godspeed!
Hey why does this sardine taste like copper?!?
@@chrisworthington1027 its the hot sauce i think 🤣
Nasty flesh wound, my arse
That felt like a set up
Bleeech
playing through an injury like that? dedication!
Homeboy got his glasses sport strap on incase the Deenage gets too intense.
I had a can of the lemon olive anchovies for lunch today. I paired them with a hunk of habanero cheese, oat n' nut crackers, and cherry tomatoes. Damn good meal!
Yummy! I love anchovies i have to try
That sounds really good. Where do you get habanero cheese?
@@kissdiscutee HEB Supermarket
just discovered this channel and now i cant stop watching
Welcome!! :D
Me too.
No regrets!
Same here. 😊
Been eating sardines once a week now went to the, World Market in Sanford Florida and bought every can of different flavored sardines and I've been enjoying them ever since even if I don't like the flavor hot sauce always fixes it
I love anchovies when I work. On a hot Colorado day, running around and throwing garbage into the garbage truck, a nice salt meat like that really brings back some energy.
Added canned salmon, sardines, herring, and mackerel to the rotation after not even liking seafood that much! Shits good!
OK, I'm confused! Do you mean they excrete out well?.... or that you think the shit (aka food) IS good, as in: "Shit's good"!! Just Messing with you bro,... cuz it's easy!! :D
I love those little salty anchovies. A tortilla pinwheel rollup with cream cheese, ham, pickles, and anchovies. A good ceaser. A flatbread pizza. Making all kinds of spreads for toasted sourdough or focaccia. Just a good canned product that i feel like is super easy to incorporate into almost anything.
Magnificent in pasta dishes, too.
They're an ingredient though, no? I bought some to try on pizza. Out of the can they were fishy salt, and greasy; 0 of the qualities I want from a tin of fish. but tasted good chopped up on a pizza
I searched to buy some Pinhais sardines on Google… and now I’ve logged hours of watching you eat canned fish. The algorithm got me again. Lol.
Good stuff. I like that you don't treat canned fish like a horror show. Folk don't know what they're missin.
Don’t toss the salty guys! Sauté them in some oil with garlic - they’ll basically disintegrate and just become pure flavor - and toss with pasta. 🤌
Yes
Just picked a can up of the salty bois at the store today to do this recipe! They didn't have the brand he featured here but my local Kroger's brand was priced and packed well enough that I have hope they wont be junk. I have a leftover pizza I might try them on for the first time too. My only regret is that I forgot to grab some spinach to simmer with the sauce for pasta.
@@NachozMan Yum! Top with some buttery breadcrumbs!
Oh heck yeah! rinse them with warm water first...please be careful though because the water remaining on them will make the hot oil splatter!
absolutely essential in doing broccoli rabe the right way, i also do that as a base anytime I make a red sauce, they're amazing in cooking, and I will never not pop a few in my mouth with some wine whenever using them
I hope to see the day you get invited to one of these factories where they pack the canned fish.
YES!
@@CannedFishFiles Yeah, a trip to Portugal or Spain would be cool!
@@CannedFishFiles Yes, do it! - shouted w/Arnold's voice.
old comment, yes, but in the towns of Sumner\Puyallup in WA (US), there was an old fish cannery on the Puyallup river. A huge building spanning 10 acres, with extensive history. After the cannery side shut down it was turned into a huge furniture store (The Old Cannery) with a model railroad across much of it, and some amazing fudge. They do still have information about the history of the building, and it's a great place to visit
i freaking lose it every time “another fish conquered” comes up
I really like that I learned something watching this one, Matthew. I thought there was only one anchovy and that was the delicious little fishy on my pizza. I would definitely give these a chance.
"A nice meal"! Who can a argue with that!? And I like the way you always pay homage to the beauty of the fish you devour!! :D
Going to be hitting the like button on every video of yours. High quality content for us fishy folk that deserves more views and subs. A definite inspiration of mine. Great work and one of my favorite channels.
the matthew carlson fan club is still alive
Yo!
The song that you played when you saw blood made me pause the video and rack my brain as to why it sounds so familiar and why do I know it...
Then I remembered that context is everything and put two and two together about your injury and randomly went "E.R.", opened another tab and listened to the theme song and sure enough I was right. Thanks for that.
Cool video, Matt!
I just recently discovered your channel, and just wow, what a killer find!!! Thank you, sir for your passion in sardines.... 👍
🤤 🔥🐟🔥🐟🔥 😋
I bought a 14 dollar can of tuna from wegmans. Got to the checkout and then sticker shock. Had to buy it anyway because I was intrigued by how how much it cost. Best tuna I ever had. Love the videos.
Love the Fist of the North Star music at the beginning. I hate fish but I can't stop watching your videos!
Just tried my first canned sardines today, have been wanting to ever since I found these videos. Not as bad as I used to think they were delicious
Gotta love the Wilhelm Scream! 👍 🔥 Pasta dishes are great to use the anchovies in oil like you started the video with.
It definitely happened, this popped up for me and im absolutely hooked 🤣 great content brother, keep it up!
damn that ER theme song took me back, and i jad no idea the rock was on star trek.. i always appreciate all your references
"The can is BPA free" bwahahahahah, bruh, never in my life I would imagine subscribing to the dude filming how he eats canned fish! You are an absolute legend!
The cut to Voyager made my day!!! I tried my first ever sardine after watching your channel (I made my way to your channel by way of trying to show my hubs that people other than me enjoy pickled herring). Haven’t graduated to anchovies yet lol- my grandad loved them straight out of the can. But I may have to pick up a can after watching your video lol.
Sweet potatoes lol bored on a Friday night and BOOM brand new fish files! Thank you sir
I feel blessed finding this beautiful channel
Mmm. anchovies. Nice video!
I can highly recommend Zallo “Premium” anchovies - they’re the usual “brown” style anchovies, but they aren’t just pure salt - you absolutely can enjoy them straight out the tin. I love them with some good mozzarella and some sliced tomato and fresh basil on a nice bread, with a little drizzle of olive oil….
Love the video dude. Outro theme took me right back to those awesome elementary days with the rolley CRT TVs. That's what's up...!
Bro this is the coolest yter ive found in awhile, I love this
Matthew, you’ve taught me something again! I didn’t know there were eating anchovies. I’ve only noticed pizza stye anchovies. Gonna get me some Patagonias! Gracias!
HAHAHHA the sound effect when you cut your hand cracked me up! Pokemon, Go!
Started watching you at 13.8k subs. Love your content.
The fish poster deserves more of a spotlight
Thanks for the introduction to Patagonia. I gotta try those anchovies!
I get these at the local Walmart and I think thier dang good!! Smells wonderful, soft and yummie fish. Very pretty skin. Not expensive. A real treat! ❤
I just had a can of the Patagonia lemon anchovies. They were pretty good. These anchovies are kinda like little tuna fish in flavor and texture. I look forward to trying the garlic Patagonia anchovies. All of the Patagonia fish products I have tried are great, you absolutely get what you pay for with the fish.
Suffering for your craft. A true artist.
Bro I had to sub because you are super cool and I see your style in the back ground and I identify my brother!
I'm sold. You came on my feed and now im wanting to try canned fish like woah
Thumbs up for "Daily-eating fish". Keep up the good 'dines!
Congratulations on the 5k subs mate, proud of you.
Thank you sir!
Aah what a treat! I just woke up, guess what I'm having for breakfast:)
As always, great pairings and reference points. Might want to try Olasagasti basque style anchovies. Cheers.
I LOVE!!!!! that you used The Wilhelm scream! 100%
I’ve been looking at a can of anchovies in my pantry for weeks. I wanted to watch this video so I know what I’m getting myself into.
Thoughts and prayers for your hand! Get well soon!
It's already healed! I guess that power of anchovies, right?
@@CannedFishFiles Magic fishes!!!
Your ability to throw subtle shade is great!
They know I love em
Love to watch you, nice video, I love Sardines...
Good stuff man. Great videos.
A new Daily, wow. Clean chovies ! The purity of it. I’m trying those for sure. Thanks for the double dose of tin, well actually three if you count the nippy little yellow one.
What are we even doing here? Oh ya getting hungry for canned fish baby!!! 🐠
Very nice. Thank you.
I eat anchovies straight out the can. I have issues.
Between the ER theme and the EYEWITNESS theme I think I've found the canned seafood channel that best represents my dominant influences.
Cut my hand just like that opening a can of cat food, needed 5 stitches. Very careful opening my dines, love your show🙂
Yikes! Gonna be a little extra careful from now on.
@@CannedFishFiles Yeah, may need a fish cutter's glove, made of Kevlar!! ;D
Loved the eye witnesses theme music at the end!
Bodybuilder food lmao...love this channel
These guys are my favorites. Lemon-olive in particular...
I eat the salty anchovies straight out of the can. I enjoy the salty flavor. Usually eat the entire can!
Respect! 😳💪😁
This is.......like on a whole another level.
In a lot of restaurants 'white anchovies' means pickled anchovies, the flesh goes bright opaque white and it's super sour and delicious. Instant order anywhere for me no matter where or when. A cafe called pōneke which used to exist in Wellington did them on slices of toasted baguette with a tomato salsa kind of thing. Wicked breakfast
King Oscar anchovies are the best hands down
I'm spreading the word buddy.
Canned fish for life.
I had these (Pantagonia) last night for the first time. And I have to say, probably the best I have had ever!
I’m from Ny too!
Another great video by a budding star. Matt, those salty anchovies may not be for eating out of the can. Mediterranean people like southern Italians, use them to saute in olive oil to flavor sauces. Once you drop them into hot oil, they disintegrate. They add flavor to the sauce you are making. I don't think they are the "go to" eat out of the can fish. I'm still waiting for the Sicilian spaghetti fish with deenz and lemon! Remember Mark Bittman the writer from the NY Times?
I have the recipe bookmarked in my 'videos to do' list! And some Pollastrinis to try it with.
Oh I'm stuck on sardines and sardines are stuck on me.🎶
Look up puttanesca, it’s one of my favorite pasta dishes, it uses anchovies, olives, capers, and tomatoes and is delicious!
Your comment intrigued me. I made the sauce and had it with spaghetti. Very rich and tasty.
@@josephjames259 Glad you enjoyed it!
Those salty little wonders are the business on some buttered toast. breakfast of ocean eating champions.
Yeah I seriously love these now.
You broke the 5k mark 🥳🎉🎉🍾🍾
hey Matt i love this channel as much as i love sardines and i dont mean to tell you which direction to take it, but i really enjoy your other content and would love to see more of it pop up on my feed as much as the next guy im sure. i know these are probably easy to crank out but i think we could all use some more creative Carlson content! Also wanna thank you for bein' such good company in this crazy world, your videos always help me find my center, keep it up!
I feel you. Had a busier summer than I though, and we're getting ready to move as well. BUT, planning on doing some different stuff. Getting a gopro for my bike, etc.
@@CannedFishFiles psyched
I just want some white anchovies.🤔
You know, I live very near a (well known very high end) sea food store [Barnacles > $100/lb] run by middle eastern folks with an army of fish deboners & preparers who teach you how to do stuff. Top of my list (after how to cook a 6 foot long crab leg to perfection - intact & without special equipment -) was how to prepare & cook fresh caught sardines, and also anchovies. Secret sauce anchovies in secret small bits in chili and especially hamburgers (guaranteed raves - always) but don't tell ! [Psst It's the secret of Worcestershire]. You might want to experiment with this and especially the use of sprig Rosemary . I loved your reviews of various Sardines. Do more!
I was waiting in a hotel to start at a trucking company, Ordered a pizza and bam they had anchovies! to this day the memory stands out because of the anchovies
Anchovies pizza is the most slept on delicacy in the universe
My first experience with canned fish was when I bought a tin of kippered herring and another tin of anchovies. I started with the kippered herring, and holy heck, it was delicious! And then I opened the anchovies and BLEH! Salty, fishy, and overwhelming flavor! I took one bite and threw it out! I'm lucky I tried the herring first or that would the end of my canned fish adventures. Granted that was the only time but the future is bright.
3:02 Wow, just wow. Right in front of the Centovies, too.
Thanks for pointing out the subtle differences, I was going to try the centos, but no need for that. The metal sticks are more precise, like a surgical instrument, nice metallic sound on the plate too, the tins should come with a safety label as they can work as well as a sharp knife on soft tissue. Thanks for the quality, it is noticed.
that cut was hard to watch feat. MATTY THE DEEN LORD
I just found some with EVO at Costco from Wild Planet. Pretty good actually and very affordable.
good stuff and it's "real" not fake EVOO.
My usual sardine is the King Oscar 2-Layer Brisling, because it's the only one I can reliably, cheaply get locally; but a couple of years ago, I bought a caught a good sale on a case of Wild Planet white anchovies, and preferred them until I ran out. I've also found frozen, raw white anchovy filets pretty cheap at Asian supermarkets like 99 Ranch.
This channel is why RUclips exists.
Sardines are my favorite they have lots of health benefits but I've never tried those kinds of anchovies that looked like sardines but one would think they taste the same but I stand corrected by what you said so now I have to try them!😂
My father ate sardines seemingly every time we went on a fishing trip. Never tried them because I assumed the entrails remained in them. He grew up in post depression poor so I assumed that it was just habit to consume less expensive products.
I will be checking out a can soon.
1:46 - Wilhelm Scream. That's the sign of a good canned fish review.
Jarred anchovies are so amazing but their a little pricey & hard to find at most regular grocery stored.
My Mom would make us anchovy fillets snacks from the can using the filets on top of cream cheese on a Ryvita. I like them on a version of pizza I called "anchovy bread" I would order as a low-fat snack at pizza joints. Just ask them to spread some bread (like what they use for subs or garlic bread) with marinara, then top with anchovies and broil. Yum!
Nice!
I buy a lot of plastic containers with ansjovis in garlic in the cool section (semi fresh)
Absolute dislike the very salt one unless in "broodje martino".
But those i would like to try those, but idk they available in Belgium
Hey Matthew great review, but if I want some lemon flavor on my Season brand of skinless and boneless sardines I'll get the lemon zester out and add it to my dines....Not. Im a soy sauce kind of guy. By the way I love the way your voice turns so serious when you really dig what you're eating..way to go
I want to try the anchovies you reviewed!
The Cento anchovies, melted in olive oil, garlic and crushed pepper makes a good pasta.
That sounds delicious!
@@tarawalker7193 it is! If try it please let me know! The anchovies melt!
@@cindyn8196 Yes, you see the big league chefs on shows using them all the time,.. as the "secret ingredient" that you don't have to tell anyone about; cuz they do their little "disappearing act", and just become flavor!! :D
Look up puttanesca, it’s one of my favorite pasta dishes, it uses anchovies, olives, capers, and tomatoes and is delicious!
must have scrolled past this one, love chovies
I do the centos all the time
Anchovies on garden tomato is soo good
Just tried 3 different brands of sardines because of you lol.
1:47 was a perfect moment for a Gaara “Blood!” quote.
Wow so you started with the patagonias! No wonder you don’t find much in the others!
I’m also thinking they may be a good starter fish as they seem a bit more “calm” of a taste and texture than sardines…
Tried some Wild Planet white anchovies in olive oil and now I'm addicted! So rich and sweet.
I wish I could find those.
@@oldironsides4107 I've seen them in regular grocery stores. Not all of them but they weren't fancy high end ones either.
Try like 1 or 2 cento anchovies on some toasted bread alongside some fresh tomato slices and parsley.
