KO Mediterranean Style Sardines

I never thought someone could make a youtube channel dedicated to sardines...
Yet, I never thought I'd spend 2 hours watching a youtube channel dedicated to sardines.
Exactly the same
Me 3
You never knew there were 500 different brands of tinned sardines ... and 88 other kinds of tin-canned sea-foods & lake-foods (e.g., trout)! A comprehensive study will take several decades & a couple of Gull Bladders! ♡♡
it like watching fear factor i want to puck but cant stop
same. and I don't even like sardines. I want to like them because of this channel but just cant . I do like kipper snacks though! I wish he would do some kipper snack comparisons. sardines are too muchy for me.
A 54 year old in Australia watching a dude in Canada eat sardines! Wow so this is what my life has come to.
You’re not alone. I’m a 68 year old from Detroit. I feel like I used to party with his grandfather.
I think he is in NY
@@Sammydx1 yeh sorry, my mistake. Ha ha
I'm 40 in Mississippi! I love this channel!👍
31 yr old in Australia
“Brother I’m going to show you some stuff, you’re going to get into it”
Best line
LOL and while I know it taste good, the fish looked disgusting 😂
Matt, I did it. I had my first can of sardines. They tasted good, definitely a strong fish flavor. I could not detect the spines. Thanks for the inspiration. I have read a lot about how sardines are super foods.
As a 4th grader in a US school in Germany - canned sardines were the perfect way to clear a table of girls so my buds had a place to sit.
i feel like tuna is worse
@@VinhLe-cj6lx nah dude. Tuna can have super subdued flavor. When you open a can of sardines, it can make a whole house smell like unwashed nastyness

This should be their official ad slogan.
"King Oscar. Not too cheap, yet not too expensive."
You're the reason why I keep getting canned fish. Always eating a can while watching your videos. Keep it up.
What am *I* even doing here???
A question asked since the origin of our existence. That is if you're also human?
I’m here too and it’s messing with my head big time.
Because you want to try Portuguese Nuri brand sardines. After that, you will never, ever eat any other brand. Check out their website.
Culturing yourself… enjoy.
Try to find out about canned sardines and which one you would try first.
OMG! That King Oscar Mackerel is FIRE!! Just ate my first can of it & hot damn it is SO frickin good!
The Mediterranean style is my favorite. I bought a case.
I don’t know why this is the best channel on RUclips… but I am 100% certain that it is. This is what this platform was made for
I agree!
This dude is so weird I love it. Tried sardines for the first time thanks to your videos! Gotta say, not bad. Was terrified at first, had a bad experience with anchovies. I'd like to eat them a few times a week now :)
I lost my taste and smell once during COVID and I lived on whole sardines mixed with blue cheese and mustard because I could taste something in the sardines and I could taste the mold in the blue cheese. It was soooo good. But then I tried it once my taste came back and just about horked
I had a combination of chocolate brownies and aged cheddar. And when my taste and smell came back, I had the same conclusion about my mixture. Terrible.
Horked is my new favorite word
I was only able to taste mustard lol
So happy that I found Sardine RUclips. Those tuna people do not know what they're missing.
Don't worry about the tuna people! We can't save everyone.
No kidding love my sardines!!
Sardines matter!
Tuna is so dry -- no natural oil -- to make it palatable they've drenched tuna in mayonnaise for hundreds of years. Sardines are naturally oily, they don't "need" olive oil too.
I like sardines the Mediterranean are great.
I stopped eating these when I got a job at 12 - now you have dragged me back. Quit my job today and went to the store and loaded up on sardines
Why am I watching a sardine review at 2:30 AM
This is the best channel on RUclips. The addlepated masses can’t comprehend the nuance and sophistication it takes to undertake such a critique. Bravo good sir!
I'm a year late, but thanks for the new word.
Same. I love new words. Thanks.
I just had the King Oscar Mediterranean style the other day for the first time. I am not a big olive fan but I actually liked the combined flavors. I was going to scrape the olives off but chose to eat them with the fish and enjoyed the unique flavor. I would buy them again in a heartbeat and will!
Next time boil some small potatoes, a healthy dose of lemon juice, black olives and garlic! First class meal :)
This guy’s a good advertisement for the health value of sardines because he’s lean and articulate. Very eccentric though.
I love eccentricity!!
He's got the Inside-Track with genes from the Jewish-American Japanese ancestry! Chop-Stick top-expert too.
This guy is a hammerhead.
Liked the mackerel and trashed the sardines.
dude my friends are obsessed with sardines after somehow finding this channel....all I get are deen snapchats now
Friends with good taste are hard to find???
I love the Mackerel. It's fatty and the flavor is amazing right out of the can. Definitely one of my favorite tinned fish so far.
Same here.
So far, King Oscar in Olive Oil is my favorite.
Trusting you guys. Going to try the mackerel in oil. Just tried some sardines for the first time at 37. Not bad and a good shelft stable source of protein.
I made a wicked good cold salad with the olive oil and lemon King Oscar mackrel. Fresh parsley and chives, a little chopped pickle. Tangy mayo. 😋
Hey man I know this is an old video but I really enjoy your videos, your like the Bob Ross of canned sardines/seafood I listen to your stuff while I rig my fishing tackle actually. Please keep it up man, you give off a, "we're just hanging out and doin' nothin" vibe
"You can't take them out and play with em!"
True that, MC.
Pure, peak omega 3 gigabrain sardine chad. Also, best Sardine review channel in the game... Don't get it twisted...
"brother, let me show you THIS stuff". This, for some reason, has led me to trying canned sardines for the first time in my life, and I think I like it. Thank you brother!
"you cant rip thier spines out and eat them, they are just no fun" . I love king oscar sardines. I put them on long crackers with some mustard - thats my dinner some nights.
Why am I watching this and why do I love it
What are we even doing here?
These kept me happy on duty in the Navy.
Well i gotta give it to you… making multiple videos about eating sardines and being interesting is quite the feat 😂😂 its all your personality man! Props
I'd never do what you do without the 'grandad napkin' tucked into my neckline - one drop of olive oil ... just one ... and the shirt is for the bin! Living on the edge! :-o
This guy has a weird al yankovich vibe. Intense gaze.
Well done Matt! This guy can do sardine reviews and people would watch! Hold on !!
I was joking with my wife about making canned sardine videos after eating some for lunch. Looks like I don't need to worry about the message not getting out. 5 stars, will watch again.
The more the merrier in the sardine scene!
You are one strange cat. In a good way, I think (hope?). Subscribed
Quite honestly the highest quality videos on the internet.
“Why would you write home about sardines anyway?” 😂
If you like them, you might write home about them. Robert Burns wrote a rather famous poem about haggis. ;)
The Mediterranean style didn’t impress me like I wanted them to.
The classic sardines in olive oil have always been a winner.
I just got the smoked kippers, looking forward to trying these today.
I love the KO Mediterranean style sardines on toast, with some of the olive oil drizzled on top and all of the Provence "fished" out of the can and spread strategically.
At 39, I’m just beginning my sardine journey. This video helps.
Boneless sardines are blasphemous in my mind. The bones are one of my favorite parts!
I agree ☝🏻
Same
All the vitamin d is in the bones. Gotta have em
@@jeekyboi9564 dont forget calcium
Skin and bones are where it's at...so nutritious
Next time I am in the USA I'll grab a can or two of King Oscar's. Seems like they are the golden standard of canned sardines.
I find any sardine that is a product of Poland (Baltic Sea) just tastes better. I avoid Pacific Ocean fish these days....Fukashima and all.
@@USMCDAD47 King Oscar Sardines appear to be from the Atlantic, from Norway, but I’d love to try some from the Baltic Sea too, can any be found in the US?
Polar brand are everywhere and are from Latvia.
I just found this channel because my mom has been buying lots of tuna, and I searched up canned fish videos one day. Now I feel like trying out all sorts of sardines lmfao. Subbed.
It is lovely seeing someone who feels just as positively about canned fish as I do who is better at evaluating WHY canned fish is good. Subscribed.
This channel got me into Sardines recently. I have not tried King Oscar brand yet, but will do soon. Thank you for these videos.
How were the sardines?
I’m extremely addicted to your sardine reviews.
Thanks, I appreciate the sub!
@@CannedFishFiles no problem man! Congrats on 1k subscribers.
@@redbaron5308 Thanks man!
You're weird man, I recently started eating sardines after my family brought in some from a local food bank. That and the fact that on paper these things are pretty dang nutritious and adequate for someone like me who enjoys physical activity. Got curious as to why no one really buys these things off the shelfs but would jump on the crap McDonald's sells in a heartbeat. So I looked up sardines and this channel came up and I must say I didn't expect you to be living in Brooklyn as well... small world. And I thought I was getting a bit weird for my group being in my early 20s and buying sardines lol, guess being weird makes it interesting.
Your weirdness is just getting going, friend!
I'm in Bayridge.
@@CannedFishFiles I guess I shouldn't be surprised if one night 👀I dream I'm firing sprats out of a machine gun at my 7th grade Junior high School gym teacher. While Perry Como sings fly me to the Moon and Dr Smith shouts, "oh the pain!" Then I dream that I wake up floating in🧠 pink moon goo🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🐸
I volunteer at a food pantry and we have had a single can of King Oscar sardines just sitting there - no one wants them and every other employee or volunteer grimaces every time they have to mention them!
Sardine pizza...
I’m excited to try the King Oscar and I’m about to buy them today so I wanted to see reviews haha.
I haven’t had sardines in so long. Literally since I was a kid and I always find myself drooling at the sight of them or just craving them at the most random times. Thank you for this.
Greetings from South Africa! You deserve more subscribers, top notch production dude!
Looking for easy ways to get fish into my diet for health reasons and mackerel is my favorite fish, so of course there literally isn't a single one in my area. Thank you so much for your review, you seem like a nice guy! 👍😄
I Always write home about SARDINES!!
I send my parents photos of our hauls lool
I like the KO because they seem to be the best value for taste and quality. I also like anchovies in olive oil without all the added salt. Will have to try the mackerel now.
agree on KO value. i prefer the sardines over the mackerel. what did you think?
I ate a jar of King Oscar yellowfin tuna in extra virgin olive oil with green olives while watching. It was pretty good, needs the olives to combat the dryness though.
I have no idea why I enjoy watching these. I don’t even like sardines - but I’m trying to.
Keep up the good work.
Not sure how or why I started watching your videos. If asked, I would be hard pressed to explain to someone why I find a man reviewing canned sardines and other ocean life so interesting. However, thinking on it, it is passion. Passion is infectious. And each video of yours, that I have watched oozes passion. Enjoy and rock on good sir.
entertaining channel never expected that
King Oscar's are the best sardines for their value. A lot of the other sardines in their price range are too fishy. I like the brislings
Good to know. I’m on the same sardine journey. Purchased a lot of different brands. For me, the purple can from Trader Joe’s is my all around go-to for taste and price
If you really want the best, go for Spanish brands like Ortiz, Los Peperetes or Paco Lafuente. All this fishes from America or north europe are jokes compared with spanish canned food
If I could only have one brand of deens for the rest of my life it’d probably be King Oscar.
I just started my sardines and canned fish journey thanks to learning about their health reputation, and then landing on your videos. King Oscar was of course one of the first brands I tried, and I also think the EVOO is underwhelming and kinda whatever, but i do feel like the quality is there for the fish. Im thinking they might make a great value option for using the fish as your base to make other foods with, where you bring the flavor yourself. I like the olive oil too, it tastes buttery to me. But plain out of the can, im going to keep exploring other options. Thanks for the content man this community is really cool and i think niche stuff like this is the future for content. Hope you keep it up for a long time to come, you never know how far youll go! as long as you are having a good time!
I love sardines. I eat them with eggs and sourdough toast with a side if spinach
I'd say it's a fair review, you already dove deep into some really impressive Spanish/Portuguese sardines, it doesn't surprise me that they comparatively have the herbs and spices locked down. Now I just need to get my hands on some of those Minerva and Nuris and experience the difference myself!
Hurry for Nuris, friend!
you can purchase nuris on amazon and canned fish websites! at least here in the us!
how about heavy metals toxic and hoe much a and d vitamin why some sites show its 400iu wtf???pls answer .Talking about cod liver
I just discovered this channel and never had an interest in eating sardines until just now. And after some research they seem like one of the most perfect snacks for building muscle as well.
this is such a niche channel... i love it lol... sardines are underrated
Try the KO sardines lemon flavored and black cracked pepper. Really good!
bought the mackerel recently because i remembered this review and tried it 5 mins ago and i had to run here and tell everyone how amazing it is
might actually be my new favorite and matt's review is spot on
I agree. The mackerel in olive oil is the best! Hands down. But I rinse some of the oil out.
Those KO Mediteranean are one of my favorites. I'd be super interested in your favorite of that style (I'll dig into your old videos). Fun fact, I've been eating fish out of the can since I was a small child. I remember sneaking out of church (I was around 10) and walking to the corner to buy a few cans, then sneaking back into church to eat them under the pew. I can still remember the flavor! Back then I was super excited about the ones in mustard. Great channel sir.
The smaller the brisling sardine the higher the price. Cross pack cans are the smaller, more expensive brislings. My everyday King Oscar sardine is the red label can, olive oil, two layer, 12 - 22 fish. For me, it's the best balance of taste and cost. The best tasting brislings are well smoked and firm. I don't like sardines so big that they are bland tail meat only. For me a sardine should be a whole fish: everything except the head. And yeah, I partially open a can and let the oil drain off for five minutes before eating.
Bro the oil is the best part
@@yark618 Nope.
My king oscar brislings are 2 for $5. Very reasonable. 2 cans a day is literally all the protein i need
That isn’t that much protein king
king Oscars are my go to lately.started eating them with lime tostitos...
I’ve really liked dines with lemon, need to try the lime chips
You know how to party, Shawn!
Shawn...OMG that's my new fave!!!
This guy's got the perfect look for a sardines review show
Love revisiting the canned fish files videos.
I have the sound off cuz I'm at work right now but upon seeing there was a video for canned fish reviews I had to check it out. I regularly buy the King Oscar lightly smoked kipper snacks. It's perhaps a weird thing say but I love them. They are delicious, healthy and low cost. Oh my goodness, I could totally subscribe to a channel for canned fish. Cheers from Lynnwood, Washington, USA.
I tried my first canned fish today thanks to you! I had a can of sardines and a can of oysters. The sardines were better. I also have mackerel and anchovies to try. Thank you for holding my hand.
i just had a can of that king oscar royal fillets mackerel and i really enjoyed it, as someone who hasnt really experimented with canned fish beyond tuna. HAD to come see if you liked it as much as i did, really glad to see that you did. gotta get me some more of that...
This guy reminds of if Tony Gazzo from Rocky 1 had gone to college. Tony Gazzo was the loan shark who employed Rocky. Love his enthusiasm for bringing back the word “delish.”
Matt is so convincing that he has me wondering if I'll be out on the jetty next summer fightin people for their bait. Gimme dat!
I tried the mackerel and I instantly hooked, and I ordered 10 cans (Target limit online order).
It's so good I can't stop. Not to mention mackerel has crazy amount of Omega 3
This guy needs to become an actor
Good videos. They seem believe honest.
Made a sammich with sardines, roasted red peppers, sliced green olives and mayo. Wasn't too bad.
the standup bass?!?! and the original nintendo?!?! WHAT
dude those are the mackerel at my grocery store! theyre so good! i will try herring next!
My dad gave me a few cans of King Oscars haven’t tried them yet but I will soon after watching this. Thanks
I love King Oscar sardines. Nuri is my favorite brand for the larger sardines.
For the King Oscar mackerel in olive oil, pair it with brown basmati rice, black olives, and black pepper. You won't be disappointed.
I get so many recipe suggestions, I may start trying them out.
@Experiencing Matthew Carlson so you inspired me to try my very first can of sardines today. I only eat tuna BUT, I picked up a can of Mediterranean style King Oscar at Kroger as that was the only kind they had and boy oh boy what the heck have I been doing! These are amazing! Wondering what I should try next! I think I am hooked
Congrats!! Try whatever you can find. If you don't like it, at least you know you'll always like the King Oscars.
because of you, i got a few cans and tried them for the first time.
I have no regrets :)
Hey man, love what you do, I love sardines big time, but also smoked oysters, the clams as well, you gotta do videos , squid, octopus , anchovies, man I eat anchovies, like mad, right out of the can, Do you like Escargot ? Froglegs ? Crawdads, ? I bet you would love them all ! Caviar fan ? Do Videos on this stuff man.....Thanks bunches,
Cod Fish.
I mean... King Oscar is just mad decent. It's kinda cool.
Watched the how to eat sardines vid randomly yesterday. Never tried them. Never really gave them much thought to be honest. I picked up some king Oscar boneless/skinless ones at the store today. Ate them on top of saltines. Wow, I’ve been missing out. New favorite snack. Thank you for opening my eyes lol
Mackerel....YUM. Before the Covid , I used to go to the all you can eat Sushi Bars, and Mackerel was what I always ended my night with.
I like it that way too. It's been a long time since I had any decent sushi.
Sardines are awesome. They’re my go to when I cannot afford anything else
I'm glad I got some.Haven't tasted it yet.Glad you like it.I picked a winner, according to Matt.🤗😘
King Oscar's and Belas in olive oil and piri piri are my go to's. Actually have some King Oscar's Mediterranean for today's lunch. Nothing beats Belas and Nuris in my opinion though.
i got a can of king oscar sardines in olive oil with jalapeno. gonna try em out soon
Thank you for taking time to review different sardine products. I appreciate you letting me know what to avoid and doing it in an entertaining way!
Your being fair in your King Oscar assessment. I forgot which King Oscar I tried, but it was similar to the mediterranean style, but was over done with black pepper, but it didn't have the olives.
I iwished you would have tried it. You would have tasted the black pepper more than the sardines.
King Oscar mackerel Mediterranean style are great and my current favorite KO product, hands down.
I loooove the 1st box! I just started eating sardines as a snack at least 2x a week and I'm pleasantly surprised! I look forward to the health benefits!
I'm trying their salmon tomorrow and I'm sold on trying Mackerel next!
Glad you included the mackerel as I've never tried that. I like some fish but I'm so far from the coasts that it's almost all flash-frozen or canned if you want something different or from the ocean.
The mackerel is SO frickin good!! Get some.
Started watching your vids yesterday & it convinced me to go with KO, I went with Mediterranean brislings bc I gotta have some extra oomph in there. I am obsessed! Gonna try the mackeral soon & stock up on these bad bois. I've heard hot sauce & mustard are good with them, so I'm trying that tomorrow! Refuse to try cheaper brands bc I do not want mushy or dry ones--staying away from boneless & skinless!
I'm glad it's working out, Wesley, thanks for watching.
LOL at the mermaid using her arms to swim when she's got a fin.
Just finished Tiny Tots by King Oscar-----very,very mild & tasty. A good choice for beginner 'deener!
