- Pinhais, located in Portugal, is the only tinned sardines producer that still processes and packages the fish by hand. This women-dominated cannery produces 30,000 tins of sardines daily, which they ship to over 60 countries. Watch the women perform the traditional 12-step canning process they have followed since 1920.

what are we even doing here
she look so happy and proud talking about their product
unfortunately, doing it by hands doesnt increase benefit, only price...
@@helium3894 That's because the owner still got some integrity on tradition and not purely profit minded
I really like the lady giving the interview/information, you can tell she's extremely passionate about the quality that goes into the sardines.
You can really tell how passionate and dedicated she is to her profession...what a blessing
Great video. When the woman's narrative discusses the incredible smell of cooked fish and you sense the passion for creating their products and it's moving. Thank you for the video and thank you for the people that do this work.
Very happy about this episode. I'm Austrian myself and can confirm that these Nuri cans really are a special treat in Austria. Of course there sure are cans from other producers with similar quality, that can be bought here but that's in special delicacy shops. Nuri is available in every major shop and has a special standing among it's competitors.
why do austrinas like sardines so much you think?
@@seanmoore8550 I don't know about Austria but in my country it's liked by many because it is cheap and easy to eat. It also has a variety of ways to eat. Examples would be eating it as is or putting it with some other ingredients that would change or enhance the taste!
If you have some extra time in Portugal, I’d try to make it to their factory tour! It was a blast and their sardines I’ve the best I’ve ever had.
Her passion in what she does is remarkable .. it shows that she really loves and cares for her craft
This is why Nuri is one of the best, they're incredible
The nuri extra spiced sardines in olive oil and the spiced mackerel in olive are my daily breakfast, so tasty
I once wrote a short story where I needed to research sardines and I'm pretty sure this was one of the companies I read about. Years later it's cool to see the actual process and how passionate these women are about their craft.
it’s nice to see the care these cannery workers use for canning : I love to eat tinned sardines ! Healthy !
I have a few cans in my pantry. They're exceptional
Their spicy sardines are amazing. Cool to see this amazing company represented.
Beautiful ladies, hardworking fishermen = amazing sardines. Fun show, thanks.
Hardworking ladies and handsome fisherman!
I like how the women and men are working together. Too many division in the modern age.
I am from austria and can only confirm that i love them!
I’ve enjoyed these for decades. My absolute favorite is the spiced Portuguese style. They can get expensive but in my opinion the best. I’ve introduced this brand to friends and it has also become their go to sardines.
i tried this brand couple years ago, specifically the chilli ones, they are quite tasty
Good God, Patricia sure loves her job AND sardines. Me too. That was a great video. I loved her enthusiasm and narration. And MAN , am I hungry now!
My husband loves sardines. I will have to keep an eye out for this brand the next time I'm at the grocery store.
you wont' find them in the grocery store.. too specialized and pricey. Try ordering online... I'm lucky to have a Portuguese Market 30 minutes away... they have 40 brands available and all the varieties!
I just had the Nuri with olive oil and spiced for the first time on sliced bread.
OMG it’s delicious! I happen to find them in World Market and got excited.
Lovely ladies enjoying their work, you can't fake that smile! Nuri spicy sardines all the way!
I highly recommend the one with the tomatoe sauce, it's my favorite and it's amazing!
I love this brand. The sardines in tomato sauce with some rice is so good
Growing up eating sardines was always looked down at in my area. A poor man’s food was the consensus. I am glad i never followed that nonsense. A very healthy protein source and one that tastes great! Awesome video!
At one time lobsters were the poor man's food. Now look at it. Eat what you please. 🤟🤟💪💪💪
@@RHEC1776 Right on!

all of a sudden I want sardines....
Portugal caralho! It's so cool to see not only my country represented here but also where I was born and lived all my life - Matosinhos!
Pinhais really does offer a superior product. It's unlike anything you'll find made in North America. More expensive for sure, but worth every penny! Yum!

I just purchased these packs, OMG, it is worth the money

There are weekends where I (Dad) will make a Dad meal that I learned from Lidia Bastianich that I call sardine pasta. My wife and son gobble it up happily every time. After watching this, I will look for the Nuri brand to try it out. Thanks for sharing!

Freshly steamed sardine looked delicious.
I like those spicy tomatoes and spicy olives we're always buying them when we see them in the supermarket here in the Philippines.
Just bought this brand a few months ago! Excited to try it when i get home. In olive
Very good job keeping people working and providing for there family's and the fishermen. Very hands on operation.
Sardines are great canned or fresh, when everyone works as a team.
The host is great, she needs her own show
Loved her smile with her eyes closed. Wish I was that passionate about my job.
Amazing
I’m excited to buy some nuri’s now!
Great video and great information
I've never wanted to try sardines before. Now I will find this brand. I've my doubts about any other method.
Anyone who’s had to stretch a paycheck knows sardines are like a secret trick to get cheap, delicious protein to add to the grocery cart. Thank goodness for these people and this industry. Rich, or poor, doesn’t matter, sardines are an incredible food to have.
itt's so amazing, i am so happy with episode
If you haven't tasted these you're missing out! Thank you for the video!
I love this series. I will buy this brand!
Inspiring.
Respect to all passionate employees Now, if I were a neighborhood cat, I'd be hanging out at the back door hoping for a snack

I love this and I really love those sardines!
I don’t even particularly care for sardines, but “Nuri” is on my mind now for the next time I’m grocery shopping! 😋
When I started simplifying my camping meals, I started bringing sardines. Nuri chili/olive oil is my favorite if I can find it haha.

This brand is delicious.
nuri are some of the best sardines😊
Thank GOD for so many plenty of fish
I do love my Sardines. Oysters, and Crab
I had always thought the sardines were cooked inside the tin 😀
They normally are, but this company does it this way, as they believe the product is better that way.
Sardines are my favorite fish
I wish Eater show the Portuguese making bacalhau though...
great show anyways.
Sardines are one of the most loved preserved foods in the South & Northeast India.
However in Northeast we fry them with Ginger,Garlic ,Green chilli & Tomato if not pre added or we make a Chutney of it .
i love sardines ,are your sold in england
Nice video, Portugal is do caralho!
Props to Patricia Sousa !
Damn these sardines looks great big
I’m curious where the “small” ones go. Are those the ones that get dried?
Pinhais exports smaller sardines under the Mabuti brand. Mostly to the Philippines but you can find them in the US also.
@@dhobonov ohh, interesting. I’m still very curious where the dried sardines come from (the kind which get used extensively for soup stocks)
