  • Today I am taking a look at the Paradise Arcade Magenta. Simply this is the best joystick ever......period. Unfortunately it doesn't really suit me entirely but if I give it more time I may just get comfortable with it eventually. In this video I try to give a general explanation on what it is, what it does, and my general opinion.

    i gotta say my dude, you are the very few of people that know how to make a review on an item. generally I have to purchase the item myself and figure out some things that most people cant answer for me. but you hit the nail on the head with all my questions. spectacular.

      Glad to be of help! That's kind of why I started making these review videos for a relatively niche market I guess. When I wanted this there was vague "reviews" or just some game capture showing you it being used. Hope to make more in the future!

    Great job on your channel and video's. Your reviews are nice and easy to understand and you don't take it too seriously which is great for the rest of us scrubs. The noisey Sanwa button joke even made my wife laugh, because its so true.

    You can wire an external button to handle mode switching (you can also connect an LED if you like; it will flash according to the profile selected), and you can also connect the USB to a Neutrik USB passthrough so that you never have to open your stick to update or switch modes.
    There's also the Siren add-on for mode switching if a button is less feasible.

    I just got one last week. You can actually put the octagonal gate in for the 8-way function. So you’re not just stuck with the square!

    So, u can actually map that tiny button to an arcade button. I used a 2 pin wire (from that connector that's right by it), to a random button I wasn't using. Boom, never have to open it again. Same with profiles too. Mapped to an arcade button for easy switching.

    What is the difference between this joystick and the Ultimarc 360? At quick glance, they appear to be very similar and both work with magnets, but the Ultimarc 360 I believe has been out longer and costs almost half the price. Are you getting something in the Magenta joystick your not getting from the Ultimarc 360 joystick?
    I purchased an Ultimarc 360 and I've started working on mounting it to a control panel for my MAME machines (I have four). In my initial tests, it works very well in classic arcade games of which I've tried Food Fight, Sinistar, Bubbles, Blaster and others. Playing these machines recently at retro arcades (except Blaster), I'm very impressed with the Ultimarc 360. It sells for about $59.99 here in the USA but if made in the UK.
    Has anyone found a complied list of MAME analog joystick games? Not mixed in with "analog games" or "analog flight stick" games?.

    It would be awesome if they had an option to make it a completely analog stick. Would be awesome for smash. I'm looking for analog sticks or buttons and there aren't many options. Also would be nice to have a broke board that supports true analog input, not just left stick and right stick switching.

    You should do a follow up but mash the Magenta and Otto V2. The both of em together eliminates the weaknesses of both. Especially with the grommet upgrade to make it a lil heavier. Got a circle magenta gate from butteroj. It nice.

    yo, cool vid
    what i did was wire a momentary switch to the 2 left pins of the 4 pin header (i got a flat membrane switch from ebay and stuck it inside the cubby holder). I also left attached a the mini usb cable and stick that in the cubby holder too. its annoying having to open up the stick all the time but now i've streamlined it so its not so bad. I also installed a switch that lets me swap between jlf and magenta in case someone else wants to use my stick. Hori rap N cubby holder has enough room to fit everything.

    • @alexnostalgix
      @alexnostalgix  5 лет назад

      vUvu vUvu that is awesome, I'm still up in arms if I will keep using the Magenta but I always find myself occasionally coming back to it. It's nothing to do with the stick but just the feel for me. I was thinking about making a switch for it and use a neutrik from mini usb to regular or type A for the cable to the Magenta.

    • @KEKuu
      @KEKuu 5 лет назад

      @@alexnostalgix Oh yeah I was thinking of doing that too, to use only one USB cable but standard PCB and cutting and splicing seemed like more work than just sticking in a cable. but if no cubbyhole than yeah I would do that for sure to minimise cables.
      it does take getting used to, not to mention if you change the settings u have to readjust to that... i have to at least put the switches in for some audible feedback as if the stick isn't positioned properly on my lap.. i get errant imputs due to its sensitivity. going from blocking to forward can be registered as doing a half circle forward for example which can be bad if you play akuma. Personally, i do not think that it's worth the 100 usd+ shipping on this thing, but since i did im gonna use it as i do think it does overall makes circular inputs register quicker and more consistently (also makes errant inputs register easier too)
      $100+shipping is almost the cost for another stick with the usd to aud currency conversion, and you have to put in alot of additional work to get it setup just right so the hidden cost is actually time spent faffing with the magenta, alot of faffing

    Did you say 8lb spring? lol
    Also I'm guessing the tension is handled by a spring like the jlf? Is there anyway to make it work with korean sticks like the crown?

    • @alexnostalgix
      @alexnostalgix  5 лет назад +1

      Lmao, yeah. The Magenta is heavily based on the JLF configuration other than the obvious base portion. I think its a 2 lbs stock and at this point in time no option for a Korean stick. Now I'm not saying I seen a prototype at EVO........I figure if there's enough interest Korean version could happen but its not guaranteed unfortunately!

    • @your_sweetpea
      @your_sweetpea 3 года назад +1

      I know this is a late reply, but there's the OttoDIY V2 (plus spring delete mod) that you could add to this joystick to make it a lot more like a korean stick
      @@alexnostalgix I'd love to see a review using these products with the magenta, even though the magenta isn't being sold right now -- I've only seen one video that's even talked about these together and I'd love to see your opinions as a k stick enthusiast
