@@RubbinRobbin I'm gonna be 200% honest with you I haven't even put it in yet. I got distracted with other projects recently. Funny side effect though. Traditionally I've only ever used ball tops. Round I can vouch. This Alex fu got me buying k-levers and it’s fuckin dope. I just don’t know what to do with my, essentially now useless, Sanwa levers.
Another great video Alex! I recently installed the Taeyoung Fanta (low collar) in my Hori Fighting Edge, and I'm loving it. I dropped the tension down to a blue 35A grommet, since I found the stock 45A to be too fatiguing for longer sessions for me. Mine also came with a chip in the acuator, so it might be a cosmetic defect with the injection molded plastic. Not entirely sure, but it doesn't seem to affect actual performance.
Nice a current HORI owner like myself lol. I have the RAP 4, so hopefully my question makes sense. Did you have to get the mounting plate for the short collar too? I know we still need the .187 to 5 point harness. But I am unsure if that is needed. Also good mention of the grommet. Ima try the stock version out and see how I like it. I currently have a 2lb spring in my hayabusa lever.
@@unru1y_disciple143 Nope, a mounting plate isn't necessary. The chopped collar Taeyoung should mount just fine without it. I think you only really need those special mounting plates for full collar Korean levers, since the spacing of the screws is different from Japanese style mounts. As a side note, one of the microswitch pins may press against the cable compartment, after you install the lever. It should still function just fine, but you can always carefully bend the pin if it bothers you (I didn't bother doing so).

Despite being three years old, these videos have been really helpful making me decide which KLever I should be starting with. Lucky for me a web shop here in spain sells the new helpme, so Im likely starting with that. Props for making reference to G Gundam
Just got into modding arcade sticks. I’ve been rewatching your videos over and over again just because I’m starved for arcade stick content and yours is top notch ngl.
Top notch content as always. And congratulations on the 1k subs, but you deserve way more. And the quarantine hair is starting to show up. Rough times.
Great video once again & congratualtions on getting over 1k subscribers. Hope you get your hands on a Cool Bear lever in the near future for a video review.
Funny, I've been playing on the low collar taeyoung and just ordered the HELPME stick. So far the taeyoung is okay. Still need more time. I ordered different micros and actuators and we'll see...
I personally love the New Helpme. I only have the Benylis to compare to but the Helpme feels amazing. I love the tight feeling of the Helpme and everything else about it just feels really natural. Would recommend 7/7
I am curious how the Taeyoung unit compares with a Myoungshin Fanta. I feel like the Myoungshin is just more solid than Crown's offerings (though I am using a soft grommet instead of the stock one). Might be covered in your other video :)
I am curious about trying the taeyoung fanta short collar. I play on sanwa jlf, and wonder if this would make a difference for me while playing tekken. I also run the kowal oversized actuator.
Great videos, I’ve been watching all of them sense I am wanting to convert to a Korean Lever. Quick question for you. So I have a HORI Rap 4 currently and on a tight budget. In this video you mentioned not having to drill a bigger hole when getting the taeyoung short collar. Would you happen to know if I still need to get the conversion mount plate? I know I still need the .187 to 5pin harness but I wanted to know if the conversion plate is still important as well? The Etokki was on my radar but I am gonna just have to just get the Korean lever for now. Hopefully this all makes sense. Keep up the good work and stay safe.
The short collar version is plug and play since it comes with japanese style mounting plate and ofcourse just needing the harness. Funny enough the rap4 was my first fightstick and first one i modded for a korean lever, have fun man stay safe aswell.
Great video, very detailed and quick to the point. I've been wanting to mod my stick for a while now but I dont know wich k lever is best for a first lever. All i know is that my jlf feels too light and i dont like the square gate for circular motions (i play tekken). Should i go for a 309mj and get a stiffer grommet or is the new helpme better? I would consider the various fanta levers as well but I've heard they're not very beginner friendly. I don't have the possibility to try any of them out and I wouldnt wanna have to buy a second one since where i live shipping fees are quite high. What would you suggest?
If your looking for a crown lever then the 309 New help me would be a great choice if you want to start out with something more tensioned than a mj. On the fanta side of things i would say go for the 47c or 49s. Buying extra grommets can extend your options when it comes to feel but wouldn't hurt to have different tensions on hand. I usually get 2 grommets when trying levers by having one higher tension than stock and one below it just incase. Hope that helps.
@@alexnostalgix I already own a crown 309mj is the crown 309 new helpme significantly better? If I replace my stock grommet within my 309mj with the 30A grommet would it give me a similar feel to the new help me. I mainly play tekken , sf5, guilty gear rev2.
There’s something oddball about the grommet that’s comes with ‘Lil Tae’. Though it’s black and looks like the 45A at first glance, it’s slightly thinner by about 1 - 1.5mm and the hole in the centre is also slightly larger. This makes it feel softer and more smoother than my 40A red (when it should be firmer!). It’s simply listed as a ‘medium tension grommet’ - a modified 45A perhaps? that performs more like a 35 IMO 👍
Which one do you recommend for Street Fighter and King of Fighters?I would prefer the dead zone to be narrow, not wide, and I would like it to be a little stiff.
Nice vid, I was wondering if I should get the new help_me and it was nice to see an actual review Some of the responses from Korean forum suggests that the new help_me switches feels on par if not the same as Panasonic am5? What are everyone's thoughts on this
Hey Alex! Hope you are doing great. I wanted to know about this here 12:47 Is the lever spinning a good thing? It’s just that, I got my knee lever, and it was spinning like crazy, so I found a way of tightening it up. Was that supposed to be a feature? I’m confused as thats my first korean lever. Cheers.
The lever spinning should be present but the knee lever for some reason has plenty of spin lol. I mentioned this actually in my review of how the knee lever spin feels alittle excessive but no the amount on the knee lever is normal lol
glad to see ur doing new videos. so i have a question , so all crown levers have two different sizes on their actuators. I have the DX QR version and im wondering. also can you do a video on low tension k sticks and their pros and cons. I ask because with gaming mice are becoming lighter, i wonder if low tension would benifit some people
No, the knew help me at the moment is the only lever that offers two actuators from what I know. They crown series has a couple actuator options from IST I think like the cdp, 303,mj, new help and I think the 301 but I forget. Check out my round up part 2 as the fanta29gn is a low tension k-lever which what I say can generally apply to low tension levers.
I just got my short collar fanta...my god... the stock feeling is 1000x better then Crown MJ-309-J model (My opinion) smoother and sexier and lighter Fanta feel so nice in my hands
Hi Alex, I have a quick question regarding low collar and non collar korean stick. So i recently bought the Etokki omni (Korean version). Is it possible to mount non collar (Ex: Knee Lever) or low collar ( short collar crazy dongpal) onto my stick? Thanks Alex!!
In your experience of cutting a bigger hole in the panel, how did you go about doing that? Was thinking about cutting a hole into my mad catz TES+ to put the HELPME lever in.

for a newbie that wants to develop good habits on KL's (and keep failing as a mishima lol) what lever do you recommend? Ive been led to these two a few times
I am thinking about getting the Short-collar Taeyoung lever but I’d love to change the battop on it. Does anyone know any compatible shafts or mods I could do that could makes this possible?
Another great video! I've been wanting to hear more about that low collar Taeyoung.. So how does the low Tae compare to the 2019 Myoungshin Fanta? Also curious if that low collar from the Taeyoung would fit in the Myoungshin body?
its not a worlds difference but the taeyoung has more wobble when returning to neutral giving a looser feel. The biggest feeling between the two is probably the resistance in dead zone as the taeyoung imo feels looser overall. The taeyoung colllar will not work with a myoungshin because the base wont mate properly.....you may force it but at that point why bother
I'm getting confused... I'm building my own stick, planning on K-lever, but what size hole do i need for a short collar K? Do I not need the same as for the high collar? shouldn't it still be level with the surface it's screwed onto? i'm confused, appreciate any help

Hey Alex, good seeing you in some of the discord servers! For me personally I can do most moves on any lever mainly because I just repeat the rhythm I already have in my head. If your having a problem with resetting to neutral a stiffer grommet may help but the added tension may make it difficult to do the forward(s) out of a sidestep or up close to the opponent.
