    I feel like I'm always finding new stuff throughout the soundtracks to these games, so if you noticed a new connection in CoM that I didn't pick up on, please let me know in the comments section here or on any of the social media links in the description! (I also hope you'll forgive the small mistake of coloring the "Hand in Hand" track silver rather than blue).
    Also: there are 5 small Battle Cards hidden throughout the video--good luck finding them!

    I wonder if Naminé's theme is entirely original as a thematic link to her loneliness. Her theme could've easily incorporated a number of other themes, but she's all by herself.

    By the way, for those curious, the GBA soundtrack is obviously simpler in instrumentation and style but pretty good in its own right! There are a good few tracks I prefer in it, and there's a good upload of the soundtrack from Rakoj on this site.

    This is incredible! The "Ansem" and "Organization XIII" sections were particularly illuminating, and Marluxia's themes' connection to Destati is FASCINATING (esp. in the wake of his expanding role in KHuX). Thank you so much for creating this! It's truly a joy to hear you break down the OSTs like this. Can't wait for the next one!

    Your video is so well done! I feel like I've been listening to kingdom hearts music for years now, but definitely did not catch all of the references she made to other tracks and previous tracks in kh1. I am so excited to see your exploration of kh2!!!!

    I have been waiting a very long time for someone to do this ಥ_ಥ The music can give hints about the future or connect the past just as much as a secret trailer can. I am so excited to see how everything connects musically so thank you for this series.

    also I'm thinking the lack of dearly beloved kind of mirrors Sora not having any recollection of com's events, so it basically serves as a musical "gap" in memories

    • @GreenRequiem
      @GreenRequiem  4 года назад +2

      I can dig that! I don't personally mind the lack of DB thaaaat much in CoM either, considering the many other musical things that were connected

  • @RoPanuganti

    WOW. As a novice KH player, I think my takeaway is that KH COM leans heavily on tying themes together, building on top of KH1s motifs more than creating distinct COM unique ones? Neat that Darkness and Destati and characters all have their own melodies represented in the GBA title though

    • @GreenRequiem

      definitely--I'm both scared and excited at the prospect of seeing what the connection map will look like for the entire Xehanort saga after the KH3 analysis video lmao

      hahah I'm really excited to script the KH3 video--I think that OST is a whole lot like CoM in the sense that there weren't many original melodies, but there were a TON of callbacks to previous themes

    Do not have a lot of musical knowledge - but really enjoy listening to you break things down and feel like I learnt a lot from your analysis. Thanks for the video and looking forward to watching more.

    I am so excited to see the connections you're able to find in other games! It's probably unlikely, considering that it's so separate from other games, but will you be doing a video for re: coded as well?

    • @GreenRequiem
      @GreenRequiem  4 года назад +3

      oh, yeah! Each video in the series will get its own video--I don't imagine coded will be a 20 minute feature though hahaha

    Oh -jeez-, I knew The Force In You had a hint of Forze del Male in it, but the conversion of that one part is so subtle I was never able to notice it till you pointed it out.
    Edit: Oh, I'm so glad you brought up that small part of 13th Struggle and Scythe of Petals that we talked about, that's so neat. Glad to hear your insight on it!
    Also with how you mentioned a part of Destati became the base for Another Side (which in turn was the base for Organization XIII), I wonder if another part of Destati helped base the Sunset Horizons theme, the Foreteller's theme, and if another part might be set up for another future event that'll help build even more base songs like Another Side.

    • @GreenRequiem
      @GreenRequiem  4 года назад +1

      Thanks a ton for your thoughts over on twitter! The bass pattern between Struggle and Scythe is a super neat connection I hadn't noticed until you mentioned it!
      I'm really excited to think more about how Destati has permeated into other tracks in the series; I wouldn't be surprised at all if Shimomura developed individual character tracks for each of the Foretellers out of the KH3 epilogue track the same way that Terra and Aqua were developed outta Fate of the Unknown

      @@GreenRequiem It was a joy to talk about the game's music! The GBA CoM was actually my very first KH game, so I'm very fond of it and the music from the game.

  • @2401blue

    I dunno if changing the theme of the Ansem battle at the start of Riku's story is an especially good decision on Re:CoM's part. I daresay it borders on shallow! For one, that first fight *isn't* against Ansem (or his shade or whatever), it's DiZ in disguise, as Riku himself states near the end of the game. 13th Struggle is only really a weird fit for this easy tutorial fight until you learn about this and the ties DiZ seems to have to the Organization. For two, the preceding notes about Revenge of Chaos being more Riku-centric than Ansem-centric seems accurate, but means it sort of has more impact appearing for the first time at the end of his story, perhaps especially since Re:CoM makes the first fight even more obvious of a tutorial. (Not a bad thing in itself, but maybe cheapens the use of it a teense.)

    I noticed a lot tracks introduced in kh2 were not in this game despite the remake coming out after kh2. Do you think this was a deliberate choice or were they just going off the gba tracks?

    • @GreenRequiem
      @GreenRequiem  3 года назад +2

      hmm, it's a good question! I think it's what you said there--that the decision to reuse tracks came in the games from BBS and onward, and for Re:CoM, they just wanted to only use tracks from 1 and CoM. iirc, the *only* one to technically use a track from a future game was actually the coded cinematic with "Link to All"! It might be fun one day to think about how different pieces in these games could be replaced with future ones
