    Couple things I want to mention about Dismiss that I really love.
    First, Destati being the Italian word for "awaken" could be almost like Aqua calling out to Terra to "wake up" from Xehanort's control. The Destati motif is even repeated by the cello, the instrument associated with Aqua, which also plays her theme shortly thereafter in Dismiss.
    At the very end of the track, the cello plays Terra's theme, almost as if Aqua is calling out Terra's name.
    Dismiss is possibly my favorite track in all of KH. (Also, I never noticed that "Unforgettable" connection; that melody was bugging me for years but I couldn't place it.)

      @RenoDojima 2 года назад +3

      Man. I never thought about Dismiss like that. I would always have the idea that the track is an audible battle between the darkness that represents Xehanort and Terra that eventually ends up with Xehanort as the one to take Terra's body, or in this track's case, the Destati motif being the one to dominate the track itself. I also like to point out that the track is just like how the situation itself plays out:
      Where just as when Aqua finds Terra and he's already being taken over by Xehanort, the track starts ominous then follows with the Destati motif.

    Birth By Sleep marks the beginning of the Shimomura-Sekito-Ishimoto collaboration, but the soundtrack remains as interconnected as its ever been in TONS of interesting ways! I'm always discovering something new in this OST, so if you find a connection I missed, I'd LOVE to hear about it! Oh, and I've hidden 5 spinning Wayfinders (Aqua, Terra, Ven, Stitch, Kairi) throughout the video--keep an eye out for them! Thanks for watchin y'all :)
    Edits:
    28:00 & 42:18 - "Fate of the Unknown" is from KH2FM, not BBS as labelled!
    39:25 - In retrospect, it may be possible that the track mentioned in this interview should have been referring to "Forze dell'Oscurita" and that this is either a mistranslation or that the track was repurposed.

      Hey - I don’t know if anyone has brought this up and I am sorry if you already corrected this. But I always heard a connection between the Aqua theme and Xions themes. There are a few piano notes at the end of vector to the heavens after the dearly beloved notes that I think (???) I can hear at the end of Aquas theme as well. Sorry if this was already corrected in another video.

    23:15 I-.....I never even noticed until reading this, that there were actually *two* separate Sora motifs used in the Ventus' theme and not just one. I was always familiar with the second one sung by the oboe and violin, cuz while a bit slower, that melody follows almost the same contour as the motif it's referencing and also follows almost the same chord progression of the motif as well, but I never noticed the first one she refers to at "0:31" in the track, sung by the piano because it's such a short phrase and does NEITHER of those things XD. It's the first 10 notes of the lead flute melody in Sora's theme transposed in F# major. The only note that's not the same is the root note as the first. Instead it's the 2nd as the first. With the harmony, and the last note of that section being the root C# for this song, the motif is so subtle because it flows so naturally with that chord progression as it resolves back to the tonic. It's exactly what Shimomura wanted to achieve, and she did so perfectly!

    I still think it's a shame that, for all his supposed importance, Master Xehanort's musical profile is dependent on Xemnas and Ansem. His ultimate impact is retroactively imposed on them. But I guess that's more of a flaw of BBS being a prequel. It does make sense for KH3 to rely so heavily on Destati now that I think about it then, because MX *is* darkness at that point. I just wish that he had a strong motif unique to him in the same way that Ansem and Xemnas do.
    I'm no music student but I'm looking forward to talk about the music of KH in that linked discord

    I love BBS's music exactly because of those character themes referencing each other, with Xemnas's battle theme hiding that "Terra violin"...Surprised you didn't mention Aqua's theme having a link to Castle Oblivion's theme, since she created it, but I can't remember where exactly in the theme it was. :D loved the animations in this episode x)

    I think some songs may be replaced later in the series due to rights issues. Like the Shimomura and the other composers only have access to the song "He's a Pirate" for KH2, but didn't have the licensing budget for KH3 to have that, the songs from Frozen, and "You've Got a Friend in Me".

    I responded to a comment here but after getting to Dismiss and the way you showed everything with the motifs for it, when you think about it...
    Dismiss seems to be an audible battle. Or rather TWO audible battles in one track: Aqua fighting Terra-Xehanort, where you can hear "Aqua" against the threat before her in said battle, and the one you can't see, but hear, which is Terra versus Xehanort, seeing how "Destati" seems to represent the darkness that is Xehanort dominating over "Terra" in the track, even more apparent when you hear the choir vocals ("Destati") trying to drown out the piano ("Terra").

    Black Powder plays in the Union Cross game for the Foreteller's fights. So it's probably a song that's used when Keyblade wielders turn on a master

    • @GreenRequiem
      @GreenRequiem  4 года назад +6

      Neat thought! If that's the case, then I wonder what the hierarchy of track preference is...considering other situations where a weilder fought with a master--like how "Terra" played when he fought Eraqus, "Night of Fate" playing for the Aced vs Invi fight in Back Cover, any of the battles post-DDD for Riku & post-BBS for Aqua, or "Black Powder"s previous use for the Terra vs. Braig fight in Radiant Garden.
      I have this feeling that "Black Powder" may be more of a Keyblade Graveyard-associated track with a muddy use-case (braig v. terra) rather than an event-battle track (eg weilders vs masters), but we don't have a whole lot of use-case examples to judge, unfortunately :/

    “Xehanort” sort of reminds me of Sephiroth’s “Those Chosen by the Planet” theme in that it’s intended to be the character’s theme but doesn’t really have a whole lot to do with a more memorable battle theme (well, themes, in the case of the Norts)

    You pointed out a connection between A Fight to the Death and The Tumbling where the latter uses a similar part to the former but without the Dearly Beloved resemblance, but there might be another The Tumbling connection. In Fate of the Unknown from ~33-45 seconds in and again from ~69-81 seconds in, a snippet of notes similar to the ones you pointed out in The Tumbling seem to be featured.
    Edit: Additionally, it says to check which Olympus Coliseum field theme is used in the spreadsheet, be it KHI or II. It's neither. Rather it and Go for It! are their ReCoM versions. Road to a Hero's rendition is also a new version for BBS rather than reusing (reunusing?) I or II's. I also believe this unused BBS Road to a Hero is the version that would go on to be used for a scene in Country of the Musketeers in DDD, making it no longer unused as of that game's release. Would that then count this version of Road to a Hero as a BBS or a DDD version since while it was composed for BBS it was only used for DDD instead?

    • @GreenRequiem
      @GreenRequiem  6 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks for the info about Olympus tracks!! I just checked myself and you're absolutely right. And since you brought up the note in the spreadsheet--I recall I had meant to check if the additional melody present in the KH2 version existed in the field theme (and now we know that since "Olympus Colieseum" is the re:COM version, the BBS file does not include this melody)
      re: the fate of the unknown / tumbling connection--I hear that the glock is the same soundsource! I think the pitches are different though, and in this case, there would seem to also be no reason to connect Fate of the Unknown with a random other battle theme in the game haha. Cool thing to pick up on though for sure--I've updated the spreadsheet with the relevant discoveries here
      Thx for the comment!!

    As a hardcore KH fan and a musician, I love your analysis series. I've heard that "Dark Impetus" incorporates "Rage Awakened", "Darkness of the Unknown", and "Lord of the Castle" (don't hear that one at all)v but it's too subtle to notice (at least for the first 2). "Dark Impetus" itself created a little motif.

    • @GreenRequiem
      @GreenRequiem  3 года назад +2

      Thrilled to hear you enjoy this series! A while ago, I transcribed all of "Dark Impetus"--aa, and I'm sorry to report that the track seems to be completely non-referential & original. A big part of the reason I started this series was to combat KH fans' comments claiming referential material in Shimomura's music where there is none. But you're absolutely right that it did create a musical identity for Young Xehanort that got repurposed in "L'Impeto Oscuro" for DDD! I'm curious if any musical material from "Dark Impetus" will eventually get repurposed in some future track in the same way Ven or Terra are

    Joking aside though, amazing video as always! Im loving all these, its a shame after KH2 Rowdy Rumble was really overused to the point where it lost its original meaning really, Union X just straight up making it a mission boss theme now haha, aside from this though, BBS has a really strong soundtrack tbh I too will always be weirded out by how strangely disconnected Xehanort's theme was from everything up until that point (and almost still is really, aside from the remix it gets with Young Xehanort's theme).

  • @fanart13
    @fanart13 Год назад

    To the question posed for the field and battle themes, not being reused: I think it's more about iconography, especially since later installments relied heavily on returning dedicated players. So, the first time was to affirm to the player that we are in said world with something recognizable and familiar but then when they return that trait is no longer needed.
    Granted, not all Disney worlds got this treatment as some had originals from the beginning, but those might have been instances where they were told they could not use the previously established work, or a judgement call to make something more fitting.

    • @GreenRequiem
      @GreenRequiem  Год назад +1

      That's a good point, well made! That sounds like it could very well be the reason, and maybe the worlds that are given special arrangements of tracks-from-their-movies are the sort of big ones that people were really looking forward to: Cinderella, Pirates, and Toy Story were kind of big deal inclusions^

    • @fanart13
      @fanart13 Год назад

      @@GreenRequiem To add to that, though I could be wrong, the only worlds to do that in KH1 were the world's that had costume changes, which made them stand out in addition (Correction 100 acre wood also did it, and it is iconic but not for the same reasons). In KH2, since they already made the world a musical, there wasn't any need to retain the field theme, but Both Port Royal and Disney Castle were iconic, the former for obvious reasons, and the latter because we never got to go there in prior games. Similarly to some of the worlds in BBS, as we got hints of them in KH1 but never visited them.
      So, it becomes a sort of "We're actually there, it's actually happening!" Thing that I'm seeing. So, yes the more iconic ones do seem to have that musical representation. (While arguably the City of Clocks is also an iconic world, Fantasia being the only one I think to get referential music, I wonder if the fan composition by BlueNocturn had an effect on that one.)

    The organ music from Beyond the Door is likely a reference to the biblical influences on the game since organs are often played in churches. Kingdom hearts as a place has clear parallels to heaven as the realm of darkness has clear parallels to hell.

    It's probably a rights issue with using the Disney songs like He's a Pirate. I think they can only use so many Disney tracks per game so they choose the ones they really want to use and then they create original tracks to replace the ones they couldn't use before.

    • @GreenRequiem
      @GreenRequiem  4 года назад +2

      That's right! My notes in the spreadsheet say the following:
      "1) vs. Braig 1 (Radiant Garden, Terra).
      2) During the [formerly The Gathering] Xehanort cinematic showdown; continues to play as Terra challenges
      Xehanort & Vanitas upon the plateau; continues after Xehanort dismisses Vanitas to leave the battle and
      slay Aqua while Xehanort fights Terra alone (Keyblade Graveyard, Terra)."
      If the point you were referring to was at 37:27, "introduced" is used here to mean "introduced in this game" (the point being that this track was used at all for this event, newly taking the place of "Fate of the Unknown" as it had been used in the KH2 secret movie).
