    This was meant to be KH3's title theme, but it got the boot when Nomura thought it wasn't grand enough for the game meant to end the Xahanort saga. But they didn't want her work to go to waste, so they slid it here. That's why it has the character refs in it, to say, it's time for the hearts within sora to awaken once more. There was an interview about this, I believe.

      You know, I've heard this a couple times actually! I've been trying to find the interview where this was said, but i've had a lot of trouble trying to locate it. It'd be a great point to bring up during the KH3 video--do you know how to find it?

    Ishimoto frustrates me so much cuz It is so obvious he's forcing a style he has no experience on whenever he tries to compose. I am sure if he tried what he knows best for KH, his work would be better appreciated and stand out more. But in any case, yeah, this fits way better

    Hmm, if Kingdom Hearts had a loser with it's 4th wall... I could guess that the inappropriate music choices could be "explained" by the bug blocks and glitches messing with the soundtrack. Though not even that can work for the phone version's decision with "The 13th Struggle".... that must have been one MASSIVE collective brain fart for no one to catch that.

      I wonder if there was just some "one size fits most" kind of application for the small Coded game where they needed one track to apply for lots of different uses? Although, I don't understand then why not just use "Forgotten Challenge" for everything in CO if it were some kind of space issue haha. It's a weird one for sure

    I know I’ve watched through the “The Music of” series before but I just finished going through it again and wow! It truly heightens my already seemingly insurmountable appreciation for the music of this series and I want to thank you for the time and effort you’ve put into this series! Drawing out all the connections and evolutions for the tracks/motifs is astounding, in addition to the great editing and intermissions out in, especially for this video!

    One thing I think that was missed is At Dusk actually does have another reference. It references Vector to the Heavens intro ostinato! Foreshadowing that you have to defeat your best friend AT the place your friendship grew. Not only is Xion’s theme tragic but it’s the callback to At Dusk that really makes Vector to the Heavens so powerful. It’s that ostinato that’s actually omitted in Eternal Moments in BBS because you have Lea and Ventus but no Xion equivalent.

    Can you break down Sekito's instrumentation? I'd like to explore his cheap style. Honestly, Kingdom Hearts music got worse with his arrival. His tracks sound too bland and uninspired, and the instrumentation is just too cheap to be likeable.

    11:00 I think the idea behind "Xemnus" is actually very interesting. It's no accident that it's misspelled, never associated with Xemnas, and has no musical ties to his other themes. With its use in the movie as an "Axel and Saïx traitor theme" I think it speaks somewhat to the idea of these orders coming from "Xemnas" (air quotes and all) but since the quotes couldnt be used for a track title, the intentional misspelling is used instead. As for its original use, only during the scene where Xion finds out her keyblade is replicated (leading her to find out SHE is replicated) it still holds this meaning wherein it's "not the real deal." As a point of note, Xemnas barely actually appears in Days, and only in cutscenes. He's never a character with which the player has any interaction. He's never in the grey area, never goes on a mission, never fights with or against you.

    Just rewatched this video series and it's still very impressive! I especially appreciate the evolution in visuals and editing. In particular showing scenes where the tracks play helps me a ton to follow along personally. Aside from the Twister segment which I thought was a bit too meanspirited and unnecessary this is really enlightening and helpful. Some thoughts I had on Other Promise in the credits of Backcover: As was discussed in the comment section of your days video, it does symbolize the tragedy of an inescapable fate, which feels kind of fitting for backcovers story looking at it from that perspective 🤔 I'm not saying it's perfect but maybe it's a consideration for why they chose it.

    The use of The Key of Light at the first keyhole might not be as random as you think. The entirety of Turning the Key, the keyhole locking/unlocking theme from KHI, is present in The Key of Light from 32 to 47 seconds in. This might mean that The Key of Light is an evolution of Turning the Key, since they're both related to the keyblades and keyholes. The equivalent section in The Key of Darkness from 37 to 54 seconds is reminiscent of Turning the Key, but is clearly different from its portrayal in The Key of Light. Maybe that segment of The Key of Darkness could be considered some sort of dark version of Turning the Key since they share the segment of their tracks that they occupy. The Dearly Beloved motif entirely replaces both the Turning the Key and "dark" Turning the Key segments from The Key of Light and The Key of Darkness as far as I can tell. Maybe some of the background melodies are shared but if there is a resemblance it's no longer front and center.

      MAN THIS IS WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT WOOOO. Thanks a million for this out-of-the-blue discovery I'd never even considered before reading this--the Turning the Key and The Key of Light connection is absolutely there!! It makes me super pumped to learn about any other connections I had brushed off with the super short tracks from KH1. As you can imagine, it can be difficult to keep several hundreds of melodies in mind when writing these scripts and preparing talking points^ I've updated the spreadsheet with this information!

  • @vincentadamsvga
    @vincentadamsvga 4 месяца назад

    You pointed out a connection between A Fight to the Death and The Tumbling where the latter uses a similar part to the former but without the Dearly Beloved resemblance, but there might be another The Tumbling connection. In Fate of the Unknown from ~33-45 seconds in and again from ~69-81 seconds in, a snippet of notes similar to the ones you pointed out in The Tumbling seem to be featured. Edit: Additionally, it says to check which Olympus Coliseum field theme is used in the spreadsheet, be it KHI or II. It's neither. Rather it and Go for It! are their ReCoM versions. Road to a Hero's rendition is also a new version for BBS rather than reusing (reunusing?) I or II's. I also believe this unused BBS Road to a Hero is the version that would go on to be used for a scene in Country of the Musketeers in DDD, making it no longer unused as of that game's release. Would that then count this version of Road to a Hero as a BBS or a DDD version since while it was composed for BBS it was only used for DDD instead?

    • @GreenRequiem
      @GreenRequiem 4 месяца назад

      Thanks for the info about Olympus tracks!! I just checked myself and you're absolutely right. And since you brought up the note in the spreadsheet--I recall I had meant to check if the additional melody present in the KH2 version existed in the field theme (and now we know that since "Olympus Colieseum" is the re:COM version, the BBS file does not include this melody) re: the fate of the unknown / tumbling connection--I hear that the glock is the same soundsource! I think the pitches are different though, and in this case, there would seem to also be no reason to connect Fate of the Unknown with a random other battle theme in the game haha. Cool thing to pick up on though for sure--I've updated the spreadsheet with the relevant discoveries here Thx for the comment!!

    Ok this is really really late and might have been mentioned already but what do you think of the beginning of the melody/theme in wave of darkness [G Ab F]? Destati? (There is also the violin downward semi quavers figuration but what has demon tide got to do with Tension Rising 🤔?)

    • @GreenRequiem
      @GreenRequiem 4 месяца назад

      Usually, I default to just coincidence in happenstances like this. The "darkness motif" (those three notes from destati) are such a tiny musical buildingblock that the statement really has to be either completed or stated very slowly and with little-to-no following material in order for me to think it could be an intentional reference. So, Wave of Darkness is almost certainly just a standalone track that's not referential imo^

    • @crobatchoppurple8728
      @crobatchoppurple8728 4 месяца назад

      @@GreenRequiem first of all ty for reply! I think the three-note motif is quite persistent though, occurring every two bars almost (it also kept the long-short-long rhythmically so to speak), maybe it’s my classical (common practice) musical mind doing such thinking lol On another note, are you planning on a similar video for KH3 in the future? Small observation as it's already a medley piece, but part of "Fantasia alla marcia" (from 1:05 to 1:55 in the song) is actually a combination of quotes from "The Afternoon Streets" and "Lazy Afternoons" in a part that you marked as simply original material. It starts with "The Afternoon Streets" melody followed by a similar downward contour from "Lazy Afternoons," then repeats. Also, I noticed you fixed on the spreadsheet that Working Together quotes Dearly Beloved, I was about to call that out. Love this video series! Would have made it myself if it didn't already exist.

I know we've talked about Edge of Existence possibly being originally the Final World battle theme, like: - In-game, the track is listed under "ew" which is the world identifier for the final world. - If you use mods to spawn in an enemy in the Final World, Edge of Existence plays - Edge of Existence as a name just seems a lot more thematic for the Final world i have some beef with the kh3 dev team lmao

    I've always wondered why the character references, especially the statement of Xion's theme, were cut out from the final game. Making me cry bro. This doesn't seem like that crazy of a head-canon , It works perfectly with the shot. I think it makes lots of sense. I think the Days song might have just ended up conveying Axel's attempt at remembering more transparently and they just went with that instead.
