What I gather from this video is that the Dearly Beloved references are more obvious (and "in broad daylight" so to speak) while the Destati references are more subtle (to sort of "keep us in the dark"). Anyway, putting those connections together must be a lot of work! Keep it up, and stay strong and healthy during these trying times!
I cried a bit when you pointed out how the ending reprise of Dearly Beloved borrows from Friends in my Heart.... the absolute power of this ost, I’m very excited for more videos!
I think this is so fascinating. I know nothing about music; I can’t read it, I don’t know what any of the phrases or jargon means, etc., but watching and listening to this is so interesting. I like that I can follow it without knowing anything about music and still really appreciate it.

This series is so criminally under-viewed; it's a great way for anyone to learn more about how soundtracks are written and how motifs can tie a sprawling soundtrack like what's found in all of the KH games together, all written concisely and shown with easy-to-understand graphics that make it easy for people with or without the knowledge of music theory to follow along with.
I hope this series can get the attention it deserves someday, and that the formula you refined here for soundtrack analyses can go on to be applied to other games and series, as I really do think both are something special.
Friends in my heart is one of the most emotional renditions of dearly beloved if not the most emotional. It really struck me as a teenager playing kh2 , while Sora is leaving the twilight town gang behind I was thinking of my friends and how important they were to me..
Wow, this was extraordinary. The music of Kingdom Hearts has been just as important to me over the past 15+ years as the games have been. In some ways, more so, since this music (and many, many arrangements of it) has become a backdrop to so much of my life between releases. To see the intricacies of the first game's OST pieced together like this was such a treat, and makes me love Shimomura's work even more.
And also, as a longtime Project Destati fan... I knew you were a KH music expert before, but now THIS is the flex of the century. I so thoroughly enjoyed all of it, and can't wait to watch the CoM analysis!

The music of KH is IMO one of the best, love to hear a deep dive break down of the magic that is kh music
I love this, and little mickey mouse hand showing the part playing, i can't read notes and i'm not musically talented at all, but how kingdom hearts's music themes hide within each other (like Vanitas's theme has Ven's and Sora's theme) and that connects to the story is so fascinating!
I know nothing of music theory, idk how to read sheet music. Nothing. But this was AMAZING and super interesting. I'd love to see a breakdown of KH3 eventually ❤️

Since you've done so much research you should do a video on what you would do differently given the new tracks added since and what tracks you would add to quiet moments.
That would be a fun idea! In a lot of the later videos, I usually include some off-hand commentary on tracks that don't work and what I'd like to see them replaced with, but it might be neat to go through the whole series with some recommendations someday
So what is the significance of Dearly Beloved? (I think I missed you explaining that)

Thanks for watching^ If I didn't mention it in this video, Shimomura says in an early interview that the significance of the track was originally intended to represent "precious memories". I allude at the end of this video that I've interpreted DB and Destati as kind of an opposing pair in the KH series: DB seems to appear in the game story as a representation of light, and elements of Destati seem to represent the influnce of darkness. You can hear more rumination on this in the Days video^^

Of course this may have changed down the line but specifically for this video perhaps instead of just inspecting the tracks adding some literary prose to make it clear to the viewer the effect of those tracks could have been a better choice
I don't understand what you mean by this (but I'm open to taking feedback). There are aspects of this style of presentation that I've refined in future entries, but if I'm understanding your comment correctly: you would have preferred a discussion on the effectiveness of linking different pieces together?
@@GreenRequiem in some way what you said perfectly summarizes it. What you do is great in these videos but feels like going through so many paintings at the same time without getting to feel their essence. What i meant by literary prose is a way of describing the effect as the music plays out at the background so the viewer can appreciate or observe their effect in a more profound way. Of course it's really obtusely rude to compare youtubers so please skip this part if it's offending: thorhighheels as an example in all his videos leaves out parts to describe (with small silences with only game sounds and visuals peppered in them) in detail how the game achieves its atmosphere etc so those who watches the video can see it for themselves and feel it finally. When my friend pointed out how rage awakening and fight to death has pretty similsr parts my mouth was agape and that really left an immense effect despite how intentional or unintentional. But when it's only pointed out and played in this style to simply be shown, one after another, the effect kind of shrinks. I don't think "show don't tell" works in this case. "Tell and show" is a bit stronger

These music series you're doing is excellent, though I cannot stop smirking at the way all the Italian names get butchered unfortunately, eheh
hahahaha, apologies--I can't produce the right sound when pronouncing "Destati" and "Forze del Male", so everyone gets to hear these names with a rural american accent lmao. DDD's 4 million italian tracks will be a challenge ^^'

I was all excited to watch this until I realized this video is too smart for me to understand. although that might be because I am musically illiterate.
Sorry about all the terminology in this video haha! In the later entries in this series on KH music, I've tried to make it much more accessible--I'd recommend the DDD video and the x[chi] video for newcomers^^

Are you saying Destati wrong? The song says DES-Ta-Ti you say DeS-Tati. Which is right?
