    "A total of 13 sleeping keyholes"
    Ah shit, here we go again.

  • @the_echoYT
    @the_echoYT 4 года назад +163

    In the Japanese dialogue, Yen Sid says that Sora and Riku must open 7 Sleeping Keyholes.
    However, he does *not* state that there are *only* seven.
    In English:
    "As there are seven pure lights, there are seven "Sleeping Keyholes." [...] Complete this task, and return here safely, and I will name you both... true masters."
    In Japanese:
    「純粋な光の数の等しく”7つ”の眠りの鍵穴を解放し再びこの地に戻って来ることでマスター承認とする」
    "Open 7 Sleeping Keyholes, the same number as the pure lights, return to this place again and I will acknowledge you as Masters."
    ruclips.net/video/Fbjp5XTIMA8/видео.html 13:10
    The Japanese dialogue appears to confirm that 7 Keyholes will unlock the power of waking, while leaving the door open for many more Keyholes to exist.

    love this series, i can already tell this is gonna clear up a LOT.
    i do want to point out something about traverse town, though. it was my understanding that traverse town is a world that never actually *needed* to be "woken up" the way the others were, considering it's in the waking world in kh1 anyway and was never lost to darkness the way others were. In fact, sora prevents that from happening by sealing the keyhole.
    Joshua states that the world is "as many things as people need it to be", and by that I believe he meant that Traverse Town is a world that exists in multiple states at once depending on the needs of the people seeking refuge in it, since its purpose has always been a sort of "safe haven" world. i believe that's why sora was able to return at the end of DDD as well, because he never really woke it up because it never needed to be. But it's also just as possible that he just entered his own dream of the world as you said, i think either reasoning holds water.

    Great video!
    I was rewatching the KH3 cutscenes yesterday, because I had a thought that “split worlds” and “worldlines” would be referenced occasionally, in writing and visuals.
    Not only is the first shot of the game Scala’s reflection on the water, the tutorial opens with Sora looking at another version of himself in a mirror. And in the game, there are references all over the place. Riku says “[The Realm of Darkness] is different than I remember]” right before his magical haircut scene. In Twilight Town, when Sora talks about hurt, Donald says: “He sounds like Data-Sora,” to which Goofy replies “Any Sora’s still Sora!”
    Seems trivial, until you get to Pirates, where Fake Jack says “This me has run its course. But of course, any me is still me.”
    And of course, when Sora shows the two photos to Hayner, Pence and Olette, Pence remarks: “It’s like a spot the difference puzzle, except really easy!” It’s like Nomura is telling us ‘pay attention!’
    Yellow KH. Sleeping Keyholes. Riku’s haircut. The DDD Drop sound effects. Every detail in this game that made us go, “huh?” I think Nomura had ReMIND’s “additional scenario” planned from the start, and it will reveal KH3 was a Datascape/Sleeping Realm.

    I love the interpretation on sleeping keyholes being reused especially since they are supposed to mirror the princesses of hearts which they are passing the power on.I however think The Grid is still a sleeping world even though Young Xehanort says otherwise they don't know what hearts are capable of. In Re:coded we saw data in a way grow hearts in specifically Data Sora proven how he was able to forge his own keyblade with the strength of his own heart due to the connections he made during his journey. The a world could have a heart with the connections as well it has real people in it which could've given it the ability to be more than data. I don't want to run on too much but I just had to defend why I think this world could dream. I can't wait to see more from you on this series and your clarity on aspects of this game.

    Soras never had to use a Sleeping Keyhole to get to the station of Awakening though. I think Sora fought a Dream Keyblade War and by unlocking the Sleeping Keyhole at the end restored the real keyblade graveyard, where everyone else but him and Kairi are returned to fight the real keyblade war without them. It was a master stroke by Xehanort to remove Sora from the fight asap, since they know he can't recognize dreams or illusions and will dive into the Abyss without thinking twice.

    This is very good analysis you did on the sleeping keyholes. You looked at them from face value and made points based on your observations. This is a very thorough look on what I believed was a very confusing concept but you helped make a lot more sense on this. Between all the games in the franchise I thought 3D was the most confusing, not just on the sleeping keyholes but also on the realm of sleep as well as time travel.

  • @venabre
    @venabre 5 лет назад +1

    I think the inconsistances between the number of sleeping keyholes have more to do with Xehanort derailing their exam than with Yen Sid being wrong.
    Based on the use we've seen the sleeping keyholes have been given we can asume they are easily accessed by a Keyblade Master, however at the beginning of DDD neither Sora nor Riku are masters and thus they can't access them. In order for Yen Sid to train Sora and Riku it would make sense he would scan the worlds and look for any that are still asleep and use those worlds as a way to acquaint them with sleep and the sleeping keyholes. He found seven, so he tells them there are seven.
    Xehanort being a Master has the power to access the sleeping keyholes and thus he can lead Sora through other worlds that weren't necesarily the ones Yen Sid envisioned. After all we can't even be sure the worlds they went through were the ones that were still asleep or if they are just a bunch of worlds Xehanort manipulated into falling asleep to let Sora in.
    Any sleeping keyhole that shows up later in the series could thus be explained as a Master using the Power of Waking.
    As a side note I'm not sure if there are seven worlds because there are seven princessess or if there are seven worlds like there are seven princessess. The wording is confusing and it could easily be either, but since I can't see a connection between the two terms I choose the latter.

    Is it possible that Sleeping Keyholes are similar to the 7 Pure Lights in that the 7 Pure Lights can shift and change (New Princesses of Heart, KH3)
    Sleeping Keyholes act the same way, and this means Yen Sid isn't exactly wrong in his wording.

    As far as The Grid is concerned, I think Young Xehanort was trying to mess with and scare Sora, and that he actually was still in the Realm of Sleep. Sora and Riku still were in their younger forms, and of course, there were still dream eaters present.

    So I really like your videos. You would be like the perfect person to discuss KH theories with for sure. So I’m going to try to challenge you on some points you made (which were all pretty valid arguments)
    So from my knowledge of the game there is only really officially 6 sleeping worlds. Traverse Town, La Cite fed Cloches, Pranksters paradise, The Grid, country of musketeers and symphony of sorcery...we can agree that worlds that fall to darkness....also fall asleep and dream. So my thinking is the sleeping worlds are worlds that had fallen to darkness and had been freed from darkness but had not yet been awoken by sleep. And you may wonder well...if there are 6 worlds but Yen Sid mention 7 pure lights this 7 sleeping worlds...that doesn’t add up. Which is correct but Destiny Islands at the time of the DDD is no longer in darkness and is not asleep.
    Destiny Islands in the very beginning was not a sleeping world because Yen Sid sent Sora and Riku back in time before it fell it darkness so that they could “ride the wave” into darkness and thus into the first sleeping world which was traverse town.
    Sora was actually the one in the sleeping worlds while Riku was in Sora’s dreams, we know Riku was a spirit dream eater to protect Sora from nightmares (I don’t know if that was accidental or intentional tho). So the worlds technically can’t be cycled through being locked and unlocked each time because that would mean they would sleep for eternity. Riku’s keyhole was protecting Sora from the nightmares in his dreams.
    Traverse town in my opinion has always been consider a world in the realm between so traverse town is a world that the person seeking refuge wants it to be...
    Sora’s Station of Awakening and Destiny Islands were Sora’s dreams. I don’t think those can be counted as sleeping worlds because that would have implied Sora fell to darkness (which he was close but he was just falling deeper into sleep).
    The mystery tower is always drifting...never in the same place. And we know the tower was apart of the world Symphony of Sorcery. So the tower is really just the world filling in the placement of where the tower is suppose to be...doesn’t mean the tower is a sleeping world. Otherwise the tower wouldn’t have been possible to visit in KH2.
    The other point I wanted to mention was that I don think Final world, Scala ad Caleum or keyblade graveyard are sleeping worlds. The description you use to describe the different keyholes used by Riku and Sora are different and you acknowledge that. The keyblade can be used to travel between worlds which is evident by the shattering effect. But just because it has the shattering effect, it doesn’t mean that it is sleeping. The keyhole that was solid was the one use to awaken or seal hearts (think back to how Sora used the keyblade in KH1 to seal those keyholes...it’s the same effect). I would love to know your thoughts

    • @TheSecretReports
      @TheSecretReports  5 лет назад +1

      there's a lot here so.... be ready.....
      *"Destiny Islands in the very beginning was not a sleeping world because Yen Sid sent Sora and Riku back in time before it fell it darkness so that they could “ride the wave” into darkness and thus into the first sleeping world which was traverse town."*
      I actually _disagree_ here, yes I understand that Xigbar states specifically "you were able to go back in time to just before your world became a Sleeping World" but there is so much about the situation that contradicts time travel as we know it. I do plan on making a video about this in Dream Drop Discuss, but I'll lay only the basic the foundation for you know.
      1. First of all, if Sora and Riku go back in time, they don't currently have access to any replicas, the bodies they have is their real, true bodies. We know this because they're not seen during Mysterious Tower cutscenes where Lea or Mickey talk to Yen Sid. And we see Riku's body go into Sora's portal at the end of DDD., as well as Sora Donald and Goofy (and later all the Guardians of Light) entering SaC with their true, real bodies as well.
      2. There's is also the fact that if Yen Sid made them time travel to the past, how did they eventually return to the present by the end of the game? Did they travel to the past, and then entering Destiny Island's Sleeping Keyhole returned them to the present? Does that mean Sleeping Keyholes are a method of Time Travel WITH one's body? Why hasn't anyone taken advantage of this then? So far there have been no significant event of Sora and Riku returning to the present by the time Riku and Sora go to TWTNW, so this leads us to believe they never time traveled to the past to begin with.
      *"So my thinking is the sleeping worlds are worlds that had fallen to darkness and had been freed from darkness but had not yet been awoken by sleep. And you may wonder well...if there are 6 worlds but Yen Sid mention 7 pure lights this 7 sleeping worlds...that doesn’t add up."*
      I do agree with you in that worlds can be saved from darkness, yet still have dreams. I think the Mysterious Tower is an example of this, as it's in the realm of Light, yet Sora and Riku still met Mickey in his days as an apprentice in the world's dreams. Therefore, I believe that Destiny Islands works the same way. Yes Kairi is at home, waiting for Sora and Riku's return, but Yen Sid sent Sora and Riku into Destiny Island's dreams, where it replays events of its past over and over, just like the Mysterious Tower, and that's where we see Sora and Riku in the beginning of DDD. And because of that, I do think they do unlock 7 after all: Destiny Islands, Traverse Town, La City des Cloches, The Grid, Prankster's Paradise, Country of Musketeers, and Symphony of Sorcery. When Sora and Riku arrive at The World that Never Was, both of them individually count on their hands, saying something along the lines of "I've unlocked all 7 Sleeping Keyholes, so I should have woken up now."
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      *"Sora was actually the one in the sleeping worlds while Riku was in Sora’s dreams, ... So the worlds* [I'm assuming you meant Sleeping Keyholes, not worlds] *technically can’t be cycled through being locked and unlocked each time because that would mean they would sleep for eternity. Riku’s keyhole was protecting Sora from the nightmares in his dreams."*
      While I agree Riku was in Sora's dreams, but I don't ever recall saying Sora and Riku _locked_ the Keyholes, I don't think they ever lock a Sleeping Keyhole, in either DDD or KH3. What I meant was in a similar way to saying, using a can opener to open many cans. If there are hundreds of cans, but only 7 can openers, you can still use the can openers multiple times to open the many cans. I wasn't meaning that by reusing the can openers, the can openers themselves close off. The can openers are tools to open other cans. So in that same sense, Sleeping Keyholes (under the theory that there are only 7 that rotate alternatively) don't ever close themselves off, but rather go world to world unlocking them by a Keyblade Wielder.
      *"Riku’s keyhole was protecting Sora from the nightmares in his dreams"*
      This I don't think is the case since that's never stated. Riku seems to fight off Sora's nightmares by _literally_ fighting them, like he does when fighting the Anti Black Coat.
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      *"
      Sora’s Station of Awakening and Destiny Islands were Sora’s dreams. I don’t think those can be counted as sleeping worlds because that would have implied Sora fell to darkness"*
      I agree in that they're not sleeping worlds. The Station of Awakening is a confirmed area to be in the Realm of Sleep by Chirithy in KH3 during The Final World, but I don't believe it be a Sleeping World in the same sense of all the Disney worlds in DDD- worlds from the Realm of Light that fell to darkness. It's a location in the Realm of Sleep, but not a Sleeping World.... if that makes sense.... And I already state in the video that I don't think a person's dreams of a world are the same as a sleeping world's dreams of itself.
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      *"The mystery tower is always drifting...never in the same place. And we know the tower was apart of the world Symphony of Sorcery. So the tower is really just the world filling in the placement of where the tower is suppose to be...doesn’t mean the tower is a sleeping world. Otherwise the tower wouldn’t have been possible to visit in KH2.
      "*
      I know that the Mysterious Tower is always drifting, but I fail to see how that separates from say, Traverse Town, a world that also appears in different locations- when people need it. The various worlds you visit in the Symphony of Sorcery aren't actually worlds themselves however, it's Sora and Riku actually ENTERING into the music- in what seems to be a similar manner of Sora entering 100 Acre Woods.
      _"A monster's possessed that music. And he's releasing darkness that stops anybody from going in there to fight him."_ - Apprentice Mickey
      _"Inside this musical score should be a power that can sweep away any darkness. But you gotta be careful. In between those clefs and notes are monsters--not as strong as the big one, but still pretty strong."_ - Apprentice Mickey
      SO, because of this, we know that the tower itself is the sleeping world, and not a figment of the dream that the world is making up since the tower is missing.
      ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
      *"I dont think Final world, Scala ad Caleum or keyblade graveyard are sleeping worlds. The description you use to describe the different keyholes used by Riku and Sora are different and you acknowledge that. The keyblade can be used to travel between worlds which is evident by the shattering effect. But just because it has the shattering effect, it doesn’t mean that it is sleeping. The keyhole that was solid was the one use to awaken or seal hearts (think back to how Sora used the keyblade in KH1 to seal those keyholes...it’s the same effect)."*
      I don't think The Final World or the Keyblade Graveyard are sleeping worlds either, but I still think people can use Sleeping Keyholes _anywhere_ to enter the Realm of Sleep, like I said for the Grid or for Sora at the Mysterious Tower in DDD's ending, for example. However I still believe the Scala ad Caelum we see in KH3 though is a figment of Xehanort's dreams, since we entered that world after entering Xehanort's portal.
      When it comes to Sora using the standard keyhole for Ventus, I agree, I think it's similar to KH1. Maybe not EXACTLY like KH1, since that was to lock up the door to a World's heart to keep it safe from the darkness, and Sora was rather opening his heart to free Ventus, but I still see what you mean in that it is not like the Sleeping Keyholes, which duh I state in the video haha.

      Alright so here is my "long rebuttal" lol....
      To answer your first point....So we have to remember that Yen Sid has the ability to use time magic (while I don’t think this explicitly said by him), it is part 2 of how Sora and Riku were able to time travel. However we have to remember the rules of Kingdom Hearts time travel. We know that you need to leave your body behind. You must become just a heart. Sora and Riku both became just hearts at one point in KH1. Sora became a Heartless when he stabbed himself with the Keyblade of Heart, and Riku became just a heart when he was kicked out of his possessed body into the Realm of Darkness. This gave them the ability to time travel because all versions of themselves from across time gain the ability to time travel. But without Yen Sid’s magic they wouldn’t be able to do it. Its similar to how Apprentice Xehanort was able to time travel but with a twist. Apprentice Xehanort left his body behind and became a Heartless, the brown Robed Figure we saw in KH1 and in DDD. Since he I guess you could say became a “heartless”, he was able to time travel. Him leaving behind his body and becoming just a heart caused all versions of himself from throughout time to gain the ability to time travel, but they weren't able to do so without assistance. So, the Brown Robed Figure traveled back in time to meet with a Young Xehanort. We also know that another rule to time travel is that you can only travel to a point in time where a version of yourself exists. The Robed Figure shared his time travel powers that he has from being just a heart to Young Xehanort (idk if this was just a simple power transfer since we don’t see it or what). But with the power to time travel, Young Xehanort was able to time travel without becoming just a heart and without assistance. He then went and grabbed other versions of himself from throughout time. They had the ability to go through time, but they needed assistance from someone who actually had a time travel power, such as the Robed Figure or Young Xehanort. And this makes sense when we see the 13 versions of Xehnaort in DDD and KH3 at SaC. So going back to Sora and Riku for a second, if what they did in KH1 fills the requirement of leaving the body behind then time travel is possible with a little help. You also have to remember that Sora and Riku are “younger” in DDD and this to is also a result of the magic by Yen Sid because im guessing its suppose to relate to this whole “starting over” idea to initate the Mark of Mastery exam starting.
      To answer your second point....The younger form that Sora and Riku have during Dream Drop Distance isn't due to them being in their younger bodies or replicas, it's simply due to Yen Sid's magic. Yen Sid used his magic to make them young again in order to sort of help with the whole "starting over from scratch" or indicating this is the beginning for the Mark of Mastery exam thing. The spell wears off when they go back to Yen Sid's tower and this can be proven when Riku finally return to the tower before saving Sora…he is no longer his younger self. That’s my answer to how they were able to return to the present by end game.
      In regards to the 7 sleeping keyholes....I completely forgot that when they arrived at TWTNW they counted the number of sleeping keyholes unlocked. Which means that Destiny Islands is considered a sleeping world and it does make sense when I think about it more because of the time travel aspect and the conditions met in order for both of them to start the Mark of Mastery and entering the Sleeping keyhole which was Traverse Town. It was also a bad choice of words to say they locked the keyholes. Its never really confirmed that’s what they were actually doing. It doesn’t help that we don’t that when Sora and Riku unlocked or awoken a sleeping world, if that world was restored to the realm of light. I think that’s what trips me up about it.
      For the mysterious tower counterpoint you gave....I feel that The Symphony of Sorcery is the only world that's sleeping, but since Symphony of Sorcery and Mysterious Tower are so closely connected, one world ended up having a dream about the other. For example, say you have a childhood friend, but as time passes and you both grow apart from each other. One night you suddenly have a dream about a past experience you had with them after many years of not seeing your friend. Since you have not seen your friend for a while, your friend will appear in the dream as you remember them which would be as a child because you don’t know what they look like as a adult in present day. The same logic can be applied in this case because these two worlds are so closely connected. Symphony of Sorcery ended up having a dream about itself, AND the Mysterious Tower
      About the final world and keyblade grave yard being sleeping worlds...So that’s a tough one to argument against if your equating the portal concept as a connection to a sleeping world. Xehanort’s portal that led to SaC is fine. Its a good assumption because in SaC there were no people there so it could be the last memory he has of SaC. Thinking of that though…it really makes me wonder about the Daybreak clock tower being under SaC during the underwater boss fight. The question I have for you then is the portal created by Sora while he was in the final world is connected to who exactly. That part I do not understand. What do you think it could be?
      Great conversation tho! Its nice to talk to someone who can really break down the kingdom hearts lore with me lol

      @@Vexx109 Vexx I really like your company! I seriously do, bless you
      If you can show me where in DDD, KH3, any game at all, any cutscene or Jiminy's Journal, any Ultimania statement, that it says that Ansem SoD gave YX (especially along with all the other Norts) the power of Time Travel, or they needed assistance, I will give that to you. But as far as I know that is just dogma or gospel. I've looked many times and I've never found that statement anywhere, before _or_ after KH3's release. Ansem SoD in DDD and in KH3 was still in a replica (along with all the other Norts from the past), which means he still was just a heart after all and not able to time travel with his body.
      I've heard this idea a LOT, but I've just never been able to find where people got that information from.
      EDIT: OOP YOU GOOD, someone sent me this: www.khinsider.com/news/KH3D-Famitsu-Weekly-Interview-Translated-2603 However I dont mean to be stubborn cause i know this is going to seem that way, but that interview was from before KHX came out so like, I don't even know how reliable it is now, given how much Nomura has grown with Young Xehanort since DDD. I think for now, YES we can still stick with this, but for me if something happens and Young Xehanort's attainment of power is somehow shifted to connect with the Master of Masters, I wouldn't be surprised. But still, you totally were right on that interview's information!
      I do agree with you on Yen Sid's magic making Sora and Riku younger, and that's in my original written DDD Analysis, and I do plan to make a video on this stating all the supporting evidence since it isn't ever spelled out, at least not to viewers who aren't as particular with details as you and me. I know there are videos on this existing already, but they don't state the evidence or where they're coming from, and I think that's VERY important when explaining KH lore to confused fans.
      "It doesn’t help that we don’t that when Sora and Riku unlocked or awoken a sleeping world, if that world was restored to the realm of light. I think that’s what trips me up about it." oh get you, totally. I hope one day we visit at least one of DDD's sleeping worlds just get some reassurance that we woke it up for real. Hopefully Symphony of Sorcery for a Fantasia 2, and thus we can finally see for sure what that worlds all about LOL
      In terms of portals, I honestly think they also simply take the place of portals from all other games in terms of gameplay mechanics, like the Unversed challenges in BbS 2, or the Absent Silhouettes in KH2FM, for example. So for now, I personally am satisfied with the idea of not putting too much emphasis on portals that don't take place in any cutscenes. And there are also the blue battle gates with Nobodies and Heartless, and they're certainly still the portals we're familiar with. So I PERSONALLY have accepted the possibility of them not HAVING to relate to Sleeping Worlds or the Realm of Sleep personally. But I should be making a video on them soon with more information and reflection about them haha.

    I'm just finding your channel now and binging all your videos. You're doing amazing work ^^ I look forward to what you make next.
    On the topic of this video, though. I really liked your thoughts on Riku diving into Sora's dream Destiny Island and how that's connected to Roxas, Xion, Ven (how they're the key to waking Sora). Throughout DDD YX and crew are trying to drive Sora deeper into darkness and by extension sleep. And they succeed in this and nearly make Sora their vessel. One of the main ways he's driven further into the darkness is his look into the people connected to his heart (who are all in pain -> which he feels -> and makes him fall further into YX clutches). It makes sense that Riku answering their questions in dream Destiny Island is the key to him waking up. Considering they had such a big influence driving him into that comatose state in the first place.
    That's just an interesting thought I had in connection to what you said. There's a common theory (that I can't remember if it's canon) that R/X/V on dream Destiny Island are just data in connection to Ansem's research, but I believe I prefer if they were dream versions of the characters sort of like the one in TWTNW. It would make a lot more sense and be solace for what each of them went through in that trippy sequence with Sora.

    So just to clarify there are 6 different realms in the KH-verse those being:
    - Realm of Light
    - Realm of Darkness
    - Realm of In Between
    - Realm of Sleep
    - Realm of Death
    - Realm of Data or the Datascape
    Or is Young Xehanort saying that data just doesn't really exist, but somehow The Grid even though its made of data is considered real?

    It's possible Yen Sid simply meant that they had Seven Sleeping Keyholes to unlock for the exam, and he was just comparing the number to the number of Princesses
    One more thing: Young Xehanort and Xemnas were simply lying to Sora about the Grid being real, just to confuse him and drive him closer to despair. They push the idea that data doesn't have a heart and therefore cannot dream- however, Re:Coded disproves this, and Nomura has specified so as well.

    Re:Mind tells us that Sora can only use the power of waking to traverse “worlds to reach hearts” and change the future 7 times (Chirithy). This is why after he saved 6 of the guardians, he faded away after saving Kairi.
    Thus it seems that Yen Sid may have been somewhat right: there may be only 7 any one person is capable of using the incorrect way, and only 7 that should be used properly to teach one’s self the PoW (“traversing hearts to reach worlds”); you can only make 7 changes to reality and history before you are lost forever. Riku never used the PoW incorrectly more than once (you might say that his initial travel into Sora’s SoA was “worlds to reach hearts”, but eh).

    Two things I think are crucial. I believe The Grid is a sleeping world, but where normally Sora would enter a dream world of The Grid’s dream, the world Sora enters from the previous sleeping keyhole is actually The Grid’s current status - 20 years after Kevin Flynn became trapped in The Grid, because “Data does not dream, cannot dream”, but as Brain pointed out, there is still “sleep mode”. Besides that, Young Xehanort does say “You haven’t the slightest idea where you are- that you have already wandered off the path.” I think indicating that The Grid’s “sleeping but not dreaming” nature IS why Sora used a sleeping keyhole to return to the realm of sleep because Sora was in the sleeping Grid, not its dream, thus awakening The Grid from sleep would simply leave Sora in The Grid, not any of the sleeping worlds’ dreams. This is supported by Sora returning to Traverse Town immediately after. (Riku does so because Sora does)

      It seems similar, but I really think it's different, and this is why:
      In KH1, Riku traveled the Ocean Between (outer space) and he's utterly exhausted, and this is because he did so without a vessel for protection (the gummi ship or the BbS trio's armor) so he was super vulnerable to the darkness that exists in the Ocean Between. This is also stated in BbS's Report II, where Xehanort states he purposely doesn't use armor so that he can embrace that dark power of the Lanes Between instead.
      ruclips.net/video/ByMf86Cf6yI/видео.html
      This scene from KH3 is, in my opinion, closer to the scene in KH1 where Sora has a vision of Kairi's childhood in Traverse Town (he glides though a star-field-like area before reaching this past/memory version of Hollow Bastion). Sora did not literally/physically travel to Hollow Bastion, because Donald and Goofy are still right next to him in Traverse Town. It seemed more like it was a place within the heart, similar to (but not exactly like) Sora's dream Destiny Islands in DDD.
      ruclips.net/video/cLZt-sUZrm0/видео.html
      And this leads back to KH3, where Sora accessed that star-field-like place after traversing weird "echo" versions of past worlds he's visited too, and where Young Xehanort implies Sora is, once again, in the Realm of Sleep. And so based on all that, it makes sense to me that he would open the Sleeping Keyhole to re-access the Realm of Sleep-- though thanks to ReMind we know now he went to the Final World, not the star-field-like place. But that doesn't change that I'm pretty sure that star-field place is *not* in the Realm of Light like the Lanes Between are.

    This could also apply to space paranoids if radiant garden were ever to become a sleeping world. Since the data world is physically in the same world as the actual sleeping world then dream eaters can come and go since its part of a world that is sleeping.

    I hace always thought the number necessary of keyholes you need to unlock to get the power of waking was 7 because is a special number related to the princesses, not that there are only 7, it wouldnt really make sense,and it's the interpretation that leaves fhe least amount of plotholes. Yen sid doesn't even say "only" either
    OOOOHHHH SCALA AD CAELUM BEING THE SAME THING AS THE DESTINY ISLANDS INSIDE SORA MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!!! THEY EVEN USE THE SAME PORTAL TO JUMP IN THOSE
    So the shattering effect keyholes use is NOT using the power of waking... And yeah, it makes sense! Sora supposedly didnt have it or realize he still had it and in the end of kh ddd he did go to dream traverse town with a keyhole! So the power of waking, which we are absolutely sure was used for waking ven, uses that other kind of normal keyhole!!

  • @benedict6962
    @benedict6962 5 лет назад +1

    I think it's the other way around:
    Sora could wake Ventus up with a regular keyhole because of the power of Waking. If the 3 hearts were not in sora's dream destiny islands to talk to Riku and basically kick Sora awake, I don't think Riku would actually have been able to wake Sora up in DDD. He used a Sleeping Keyhole precisely because he didn't have any other options and maybe he could just beat something up.
    That said, I ALSO wonder if the way Marluxia put Sora to sleep has ANYTHING to do with all of this sleep nonesense.

    A quick question which comes to my mind: isn't riku going through Sora's dreams the whole game or so? Isn't it than so that rikus sleeping keyholes are all just portals to the next dream?
    Would it be seven if we only count Sora's keyholes?
    Also, this whole sleeping and dreaming thing is still bothering me so much as union cross etc are all probably something within the dream worlds because of the charity's and nightmares

    • @TheSecretReports
      @TheSecretReports  4 года назад +1

      Well, it kind of depends on how you look at it, at least in my opinion. No matter what, Riku had to unlock seven himself so he could gain the Power of Waking. However, I suppose it does make more sense that who ever unlocks a world's Sleeping Keyhole first (story chronologically wise) is the one who wakes up the world officially, and the second one to unlock the Keyhole simply uses it to get to the next dream. HOWEVER, you would also think that if the first person would wake up the Sleeping World, then the second person wouldn't have a sleeping world anymore to wake up in the first place. So maybe it's the opposite, the FIRST person only unlocks to go to the next world, and the SECOND person wakes up the world entirely.
      I can't say definitively or not if Riku is ONLY experiencing Sora's dreams, and not Sleeping Worlds themselves, as Riku's adventures in the Sleeping Worlds covers events/locations that Sora never knew about, thus there's no way he could have dreamed it. So I would think Riku has to be in the Sleeping Worlds at some level while still being in Sora's dreams. I could be ABSOLUTELY wrong, but I don't think Riku's situation is 100% one way or the other, but a blended situation. that's what I think, personally.
      As for Union Cross, I do plan to address what Nightmare Chirithy mentions in a future DDDiscuss video, and I really want to try to make these videos more frequently, so please be patient haha!! Thanks so much for the discussion!

This point also makes a much sense when playing Sora route in the Grid. Noticed how Risezey actually remembers Sora unlike the characters of the Pinocchio, Fantasia and the Musketeers worlds. I would like to purpose other one idea and explore it from there to explain the Sleeping Keyholds, let's suppose that there are only 7 Sleeping Keyholes, and that Yen Sid is right. Going from there, how do Sora and Riku learn to use the power of waking by unlocking/awaking/using this Sleeping Keyholes?
    Well the answer is simple, experience, but why do they need to experience their effect to be able to learn to use this power? I would say, because the power of waking, besides restoring a world or person from an state of deep darkness(Remember Ansem Seeker of Darkness clearly states that darkness holds our dreams, so when you awake up something you are taking it away from the darkness, or restoring someone from the darkness), the only way to do this, it's by simulating the effect of a Sleeping Keyhole. So there are 7 Sleeping Keyholds:
    - Destiny Islands
    - Traverse Town(Because it can be in whatever state is necessary to the people that are in need of a refuge)
    - La Cite des Cloches
    - The Grid(Xehanort has been proven to not know everything about hearts and as we see in KH2, Re:Coded and by the word of Ansem The Wise on DDD, everything can grow a heart, so i wouldn't be surprised that, it's Xehanort, at the moment, ignorance that doesn't allow him to understand that The Grid is a Sleeping World)
    - Prankster's Paradise
    - Country of Musketeer's
    - Symphony of Sorcery
    Now like the Princess of heart, i don't think this 7 Sleeping Keyholds are set, but that they can be changed as worlds move from sleeping to awake.
    So how is it possible that Sora and Riku are able to recreate the effects of a Sleeping Keyhold? The Keyblade has been proven to be able to manipulate reality on some level, so i wouldn't be surprised if they are manipulating the reality around then to create an artificial Sleeping Keyhold that works like a temporal gateway between the Realm of Sleep and their location. And then by simply using the power to unlock anything of the Keyblade to traverse through this temporal gateways, once they finish their use of that Sleeping Keyhold, it stops of exist until they need a new one to access somewhere else.
    With this possible theory in mind that i propose, it certainly makes sense a lot of stuff that we see, it explains how the Sleeping Keyhold work, and why Sora and Riku require different methods to do the same thing in DDD and KH3?.
    When Riku needed to awake Sora, his heart was still deep in sleep, so he needed to restore him, but something has been stopping Sora from completely being put into the full hold of darkness. The hearts that live inside Sora, which are quite awake when you look at then. While Sora is sleep at the time, so they wait on Sora's dream for the moment to release him from it. So Riku had to enter another Dream through an Sleeping Keyhold to get then to awake him.
    While Ventus, as we see through KH3, he has been quite awake, and even speaking through Sora at times, so Sora doesn't need to create an Sleeping Keyhold, he needs to enter Ventus' heart to free it from inside his body, so it can reach Ventus' body.
    This could also be supported by Roxas, if he was sleeping in Sora's heart, he would have needed for Sora to awake him from inside his heart to set him free, but Roxas not only was awake, but he was free in Sora's heart, he just needed a push to leave it. And how he was able to remember and interact through Sora from all of KH2 to KH3, both in the dreams and by making Sora see what he is remembering and even change who is in charge momentarily.
    I hope this brings an interesting discussion :D

      In all honestly, I believe that is what Young Xehanort meant when he said that the Power of Waking is for "traversing hearts to reach worlds". I think Nomura is going to later confirm that Sora has been able to use the Power of Waking since KH1, when he "traversed" Kairi's heart to reach her memory/dream of Hollow Bastion- the same kind of Sora's dream of Destiny Islands, and Xehanort's memory/dream of Scala ad Caelum. HOWEVER, that is NOT confirmed; that's just a theory I have!
      For the star field area itself, I think it's possible that it's a place "between" realms. Both times we see it, it's connected the realm of light to the realm of sleep or death. KH1 it connected Sora in Traverse Town to Kairi's memory of Hollow Bastion, and in KH3 it connected Sora from the Station of Awakening (and what seemed to be "fake" disney worlds like The End of the World had in KH1) to once again, the Realm of Light when Sora and Kairi arrive in the Keyblade Graveyard with the other Guardians. But once again, this could all toootally be wrong, since the starfield place itself has never really even been addressed in game.

      I see, that makes sense. If that’s true, it would also explain why Yen Sid stated in KH3 that Sora “forgot” the Power of Waking, rather than having to learn how to do it.
      It probably should also be noted that both times we see the starfield it is specifically allowing Sora to reach Kairi, although I don’t know what kind of significance that might hold.

    Destiny islands wasn't in the sleeping realm but was the entrance as it was falling into darkness, Soras keyholes appeared when Riku used the power of waking and the last 3 for Sora, the mysterious tower was also an entrance and yes a second keyhole swapped in at traverse town.

    Dear The Secret Reports. After the end of KH3, I started to marathon the series chronologically looking for foreshadowing and set up for the upcoming Foretellers Saga. One of the pieces of lore I came across was the Realm of Unchained, or the Unchained Plane, depending on the translation, in KH Unchained X. It is when Ephemer, as explained by Ava to the Player, used a dream to communicate with both the Player and Skuld for them to meet and go to the tower. I realized afterwards that, since Ephemer was already in the other worldline, this is the only in-canon way that characters have communicated with each other across worldlines, which is important for the next saga. In DDD, the characters of TWEWY are in traverse town through Rhyme's dream portals. I wanted to ask you if with your research, you understood how these two pieces of lore might be connectec. Thank you.

      I absolutely have a theory on Ephemer's unchained state/realm, and it will even be apart of Dream Drop Discuss! Unfortunately, it will be one of the last in the group of videos I have planned, since in order to understand the theory, there's a lot of analyses I need to explain about other DDD factors before hand. "Dream Drop Discuss Introduction" has a link in its description
      to the long, 6-chapter analysis I did in June, so you can read that analysis now if you don't want to wait for me to state my theory.
      In that analysis, while I do address both Rhyme's portals and the unchained realm separately, I did not, however, connect the two, but I think you may be onto something! At the moment, while I don't have any hard evidence for this, I have a gut idea that Young Xehanort was trying to create OR understand worldlines with Traverse Town in DDD and The Toy Box in KH3. However, what that does not explain is how Riku, jumping into Sora's dreams, ended up in the other Traverse Town if it is indeed another worldline OR a fake creation of one by Young Xehanort-- especially because Riku inevitably returns Sora's world in TWTNW.
      There is also the fact that Luxu in Observations Excerpt 1 that only Keyblade masters have the means to jump worldlines, and Joshua nor Rhyme are Keyblade masters by any means, so there's a sign IMO that the second Traverse Town is not another worldline after all. It may be an attempt at one, but I don't believe it's at all on the same scale that Luxu describes in Observations.
      But I hope in either my written analysis OR my future videos will give you enough of my opinions, if this comment isn't exactly what you're looking for haha! And thank you very much!

    • @WildcatDiana
      @WildcatDiana 5 лет назад

      @@TheSecretReports Thank you for your answer. I think becoming Unchained and having the power to jump worldlines are different things. In KH Insider translation, Ava says that Ephemer has become Unchained, so it is a power that a Keyblade Wielder can have without being a master. I will wait for your videos because I am terrible at retaining information when reading online XD

    • @WildcatDiana

      And I have a personal theory concerning becoming Unchained - if the definition of becoming Unchained is using dreams to communicate remotely with other people, there is one character in our main series ensemble that has shown signs of being Unchained - Roxas!! Which could be a good way to use him as a playable character in the future to find out what happens to Sora.

    Didn't in KH II Tron or someone at Radiant Garden state that the Space Paranoids world was a copy that Ansem the Wise made? My understanding was that The Grid in DDD was the original world Space Paranoids was copied from that fell to darkness, explaining why it's much further down the timeline compared to when the gang last saw the people in it. That doesn't quite explain why Rinzler/Tron suddenly started to remember Sora if that's not technically the same Tron he met but the series has already pulled so much stuff regarding hearts holding memories that aren't their own (I.e. Xion) that I'm sure there's an explanation in there somewhere.

    Sora doesn’t go back to the Station of Awakening when he uses the keyhole in the final world. He goes back to the Keyblade Graveyard and later is sent to go after his friends hearts using the Power of waking. Also I doubt the “sleeping keyholes” in 3 are the same sleeping keyholes Yensid mentions or are like the ones in DDD since those had to do with waking up the worlds from their slumber, I think it’s too quick to call Yensid a liar and assume all the sleeping keyholes are related to each other. I believe them to be appearing more on Sora and the others using the power of waking and that’s why they have a similar look. It would make sense since the whole point of the exam was for Sora and Riku to gain the power of waking by waking up the sleeping worlds and the keyholes could’ve granted them the power of waking by unlocking the required amount. And lastly, for the comparison between waking up Sora and waking up Ventus. Sora drowns back into his heart and that’s why Riku needed to open a up keyhole and go to his “dream” destiny island. Meanwhile with Ven, he was more resting in a safe haven and not in a dire situations like Sora was.

      So it seems to me, worlds like Destiny Islands, Traverse Town, the Mysterious Tower, as well as The World that Never Was are all worlds that yes you CAN visit in the awake world, but they still have a dream version of themselves. Yen Sid says that Sora restored many of the worlds (KH1) but "some never returned completely". So it seems to me it's not really a black and white situation, but it's possible that Worlds still have a kind of subconscious state of sleep.

    • @13thdarkness
      @13thdarkness 5 лет назад

      @@TheSecretReports You mean that some worlds could be both awake and asleep simultaneously? That's an interesting thought I hadn't had before. It would certainly explain how the New Organization was able to guide Sora to TWTNW using it's dreaming state, and would also be in line with Nomura's statement that its "existence as a world has become uncertain" after the original Organization's demise in KH2. Nomura also stated in scenario mysteries for DDD that all the worlds in the Realm Between have different rules than those in the Realm of Light in the first place. Maybe the worlds residing in the Realm Between puts them in a sort of "half existence" state just like the Nobodies who are born there.

    • @13thdarkness
      @13thdarkness 5 лет назад

      I'd like to add to my previous statements:
      As for the Destiny Islands' exception to being in the Realm Between and existing both there and within the Realm of Sleep, it was simply awoken before Sora saved the world from darkness in KH1 given that the sleeping keyhole there was unlocked in the past, so it never existed in both waking and sleeping states across the two realms.
      If what you meant was that you think it's possible that all worlds consist of both states all the time across all realms, I could certainly see that being the case. Sora showed that that very ability was possible for a heart when he was able to see what was happening in his dream of the Destiny Islands while Riku was there, so Sora was both awake and privy to his sleeping state at the same time. The dream version of Destiny Islands could be seen as Sora's own sleeping world in a sense, if we wanted to believe that the hearts of worlds could have the same abilities as a being's.
      The difference then for worlds in the Realm of Light and the Realm Between would be that worlds in the Realm Between could exist in the Realm of Sleep at the same time as its own realm, while worlds in the Realm of Light couldn't. The dreaming states of worlds based in the Realm of Light would simply be dreaming states, ones that don't or can't exist in the Realm of Sleep simultaneously.

    So if there are 7 pure lights as Yen Sid said, is that the 7 princesses of light or does that refer to the 7 lights that split off from the X-blade? Either way, there are more than seven on each side, so maybe the 7 keyholes is reflective of that? There are 7 new princesses of light so that would mean 14 sleeping keyholes potentially.

    Do you agree with the Sleeping Realms Theory, or do you have your own thoughts/explanation as to why KH3 is so thematically different from every other entry in the franchise? Granted, there are some issues with the theory but it does have an answer for most of the issues in KH3, even the ones it thinks it doesn't or doesn't mention.

    • @TheSecretReports
      @TheSecretReports  4 года назад

      From when I last read it (so who knows, maybe it's been updated with material I'd agree with) I did not agree with it. I DO think it pointed out mysterious things that currently are unanswered (or were answered in ReMind), but overall I don't agree with the idea that KH3 is a repetition of events that take place in the Realm of Sleep. The doc covered a variety of things, but there were a bunch of little things here and there I remember not agreeing with. While I can't say FOR SURE its incorrect--because who am I to say that definitively--One of the reasons I created the Dream Drop Discuss series was to present an alternate explanation to why certain things happen in KH3 (like the Sleeping Keyholes, for example). I kind of mention this in Dream Drop Discuss's introduction video, just not as in depth.

    • @fanart13
      @fanart13 4 года назад

      @@TheSecretReports Okay, while that was mentioned in the doc, the biggest facet that I took away was that KH"3" took place within Sora's Dream and we progressively dived deeper as the game progressed. While I don't think it's perfect, to me it helps explain a lot of issues that I had with KH3 that I initially dismissed as failures to the series as a whole (e.g. Xion and light/darkness being a good/evil metaphor).
      Granted, I am hesitant to accept it too because there are some issues I have from a narrative point of view for it, and I'm not going to tell you to believe it either. That was part of the reason why I asked some of the other questions that I had (you may not have seen them), I was curious to see if you had a way of explaining the various issues I had with the game. (I understand the subjectivity but I seem to be the only one to have such concerns.)
      I haven't played DDD (I saw a walkthrough many years ago) but KH3 definitely made me lose interest with how a lot of things were handled and I'm hoping there's a better explanation other than "the writers wanted it". While, theory and discussion videos have definitely helped with information that I wasn't as knowledgeable with only the Sleeping Realms Theory has covered some of the broader topics which, as we both have said, isn't perfect.
      I hope that makes sense, and I'm always willing to get into a discussion about nearly any topic in regards to KH (granted, I know very little about KHX, KHUX, and KHUXDR).

But we do know that by possessing Riku in KH1, Ansem SoD was somehow able to regain a human shape rather then become a Darkling or emblem Heartless. Ansem still does have an emblem, yes, but he's still a human shape and has sense of who he is, while Darklings and Heartless seem to not. And in KH2's Secret Ansem Report 10, Ansem the Wise talks about how both Xehanort and Sora were able to remember who they were when they became heartless, and he *suspects* its because both Xehanort and Sora willingly chose to release their hearts from their bodies. But IMO, Ansem SoD somehow having a body again after possessing Riku hasn't really been explained well, at least not in game. Even in KH3, When Mickey and Riku are in Radiant Garden trying to find Terra, Mickey just kinda glances over the fact that Ansem SoD got a body again after possessing Riku. Is it weird that I have more questions and speculations of what has happened and what will happen after this? Don’t get me wrong, I was a bit confused on sleeping keyholes myself and the video cleared a lot of that up. But a lot more questions came to my head like if the Scala ad caelum in KH3 is a dream version of Xehanort’s then why can Donald and goofy enter? Don’t you need to wield the Keyblade? But if anyone can just by holding onto someone. Then where are the GoL when you enter Scala?. Are they stuck at the keyhole? Because in the cutscene before it, only Sora, Donald and goofy entered Scala. They all stood there. Shouldn’t they be back at the tower of endings? They aren’t though. But if all of them did come behind sora, why did they take this long to actually enter Scala? Is it because Xehanort’s dream was too powerful that only 3 people could enter? For story reasons I get why they would only do Sora, Donald and Goofy, but as for the lore, I don’t.

    • @TheSecretReports
      @TheSecretReports  5 лет назад +2

      Nowhere in KH does it say you need to wield the Keyblade to enter the Realm of Sleep. I DID say in the video that it seems you need to be a Keyblade Wielder to enter though a Sleeping Keyhole, but Donald and Goofy entered with Sora into SaC via a PORTAL, not a Sleeping Keyhole. Another person who can travel via portals, even though he doesn't wield a keyblade, is Joshua. So we know that this detail, that you don't have to be a Keyblade wielder to enter the Realm of Sleep, is a consistent one since the time that the Realm of Sleep was introduced.
      The Guardians of Light stayed behind for a period of time because they needed to hold Kingdom Hearts shut (presumably with the power of their keyblades) while Sora took care of Xehanort. After Kingdom Hearts seemed to chill out in the real world (probably because Xehanort was weakened by Sora) they joined Sora into SaC via the Sleeping Keyhole seen later. They may not have known where exactly it was that Sora, Donald and Goofy ended up, but Riku says the other Guardians "followed their hearts" to them.
