Perfect replacement in ages past. I don't feel he gets the credit he deserves. Tool might have been something far different by now had they picked someone else. Personally, it seems to me that the union of these four propelled them into a supergroup reminiscent of the 70s. With a perfect lineup, their later works just feel to me to greatly overshadow their earlier works. Had Paul not split, I'm doubtful they'd even still exist as a band.
@@chestercheetoh3857 I'd say the legal issues they fought and won were the biggest challenge to the band's continued existence. Their song "The Patient" is all about it. "I certainly would have walked away by now."

This is Tool's absolute apex. It's the most significant work these 4 people have made. Lateralus is a masterpiece of an album, but these tracks specifically are the height of their musical output. Everything that was happening in their lives allowed for them to reach this level, if only briefly (a place most artists never reach). They were still young enough men, most of which still didn't have a family to focus on and could devote themselves to their craft and output. These three pieces represent something more akin to classical music playing on rock (and world) instruments than rock songs. Are there even verses or choruses or bridges here? I was just getting into Tool as this album was released, I was 17 at the time and completely not ready and yet fully available for what this album had to give me. I saw Tool for the first time the next year on my 18th birthday and I hadn't really absorbed these three pieces yet. The band rocked like hell took about a 15-20 minute intermission and came back out to play this trilogy and it changed my life. I know people often say things like that, but in this case, it's not hyperbole. It changed my life. I was by myself in a sea of strangers who were all there tuned into the exact same frequency. I rethought the kind of person I wanted to be. The path I was on, the people I associated with, my relationship with myself and with art with an honesty I'd never been able to access. Sometimes we can have a deeply profound experience with art and it can shift our thinking and perspective on life. I purposely don't listen to these tracks very often, but I will sometimes during key moments of transition in my life. Lately I've been to Tool again and from a different perspective in life and again feel drawn to this piece. You guys are the only people Ive seen experience tool on RUclips and truly get into it like I do. Most of their stuff is an internal feeling not like most music.
This completes the reactions to the Lateralus album. The only Tool songs left that they haven't heard some version of are: Sweat, Part of Me, Disgustipated, Merkaba, and Intension. I strongly suggest they do full album reactions, but idk if they have time for that. All things must come to an end. The end of 2020 can't come fast enough. This channel and H6 and Smokey's discovery of Tool has been one of the very few highlights this year. I've been there every Tuesday since AG was GW... still funny btw.. Thank you guys for going through the entire Tool discography. It's been a treat.
@@jcreature11 Alternate versions of songs. i.e. Third Eye (live) off Salival. Album versions of Pneuma, and Descending. Filler tracks like Mantra don't count as songs. So as for first experiences of Tool songs, those 5 are it.
I'm so overjoyed to see a reaction video wear the listeners don't speak during the songs. They just absorb the experience in it's entirely and allow the music to do what it was intended to do. Kudos guys!
Given the lyrics, I always think of the story of Narcissus...narcissism is mentioned in the song. Narcissus, in some versions of the myth, fell in love with his own reflection ("Reflection" is thus appropriately titled) and died (by pining away) because he couldn't pull himself away from staring at himself in the water. Narcissism comes from this story of someone being so in love with themself that they can't focus on anything else, even keeping themself alive. Sorry if someone mentioned this already, as this video is over a year and a half old at this point, but I scanned a good number of comments and didn't see anything! So fun to watch others enjoy different Tool songs for the first time. 😊
Most coffins used to be made from pine. I always took the lyrics as meaning more, as in- waste away... in a pinebox. The end... at the end of the Trinity. Lyrics are always subjective, love the input!
I remember seeing Tool perform this live back in the day. 20 minutes later, I swear everyone's jaw dropped. There are literally no words to describe the feeling of seeing and hearing absolute perfection. The level of sophistication, complexity, and precision required to pull this off live is simply mind-blowing.
The Holy Trinity!!!! Hollywood....get multiple packs of cigarettes......and a pillow and a blanket.....you might not come back......Smoke.....not a lot chunk but holy shit is Maynard gonna fill your soul
These 3 masterpieces are TOOL's greatest work in my opinion. Reflection is one of the most incredible songs I have ever heard, and is in my top 3 for TOOL. See you on the other side. #SpiralOut #TOOLarmy #TOOLgating
I just found you guys. Super excited to be here. I love new TOOL fans. Watching their faces as they get rocked off gives me joy. I saw TOOL the first time at a small venue in 1996 and I've been obsessed ever since.
Here we go! Today is the day! What away to end the year! Thanks guys for allowing us to relive this journey with you and through you! Much love to you both for getting many of us through this year with Toolsday!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
You can definitely hear how Danny's love of African drums is brought to life in these tracks. Reflection sounds like a powerful war drum beating in the dark jungles of your soul.
Ive seen them play this trinity live 3 times on the Lateralus tour in 2001. Its amazing live and Danny is the only one who stays on stage for all 3 songs. Praise TOOL.
I can't wait for this - I think Triad is one of Tool's most forgotten tracks because it has no Maynard (basically) and it's not a skit or interlude or joke track that stands out and is usually thrown in with this trinity and rarely appreciated just on its own.
Today is the day!!!! Prepare to be amazed. What a great way to end the year. Ready for some TOOLGATING!!! Thanks for a great year guys. Ready to see what is in store for next year. Much love guys! 🤘❤
Lateralus made me a Tool fan for life. I was familiar with Tool before Lateralus, but had never had that deep spiritual/emotional/mental connection to their music. Then came Lateralus. I first heard the song Lateralus on April 21, 2001 while storm chasing in Kansas with a friend who worked with me at a TV station. Storm chasing is my life's passion. We intercepted a supercell thunderstorm which towered 50k feet tall into the heavens like a mushroom cloud commanding your attention in an otherwise clear sky. The lightning was constant, literally non-stop. The storm produced an F4 tornado which hit the town of Hoisington, KS and we watched the tornado illuminated by lightning and power flashes in the dark. On the 5 hour drive home we heard the song Lateralus on the radio and the lyrics, the sound, it encapsulated my experience chasing that storm. I was an instant fan. The album dropped a few weeks later and I bought my first Tool album and was immersed into the world of Tool. Soon after I purchased their previous albums and fell in love with their progression and journey as a band. Their music speaks to my inner being and takes me to a place of deep contemplation and harmony. Tool is my all time favorite band. I have been watching your videos and have found great satisfaction watching you both fall in love with Tool. Welcome to the Tool army.
I've been a fan of Tool since 1995 - 96, they are, without question, my favorite band. I can't help but smile everytime you guys react to them - you are far and away my favorite reactors of Tool. I have a request that may not be very popular, and I'm not even sure if you would like it, but Punch Brothers is a band of ridiculously good musicians - nothing like Tool, but the musicianship and writing are absolutely ridiculous. I would recomend a reaction to a song called Familiarity (any live version), it may blow some minds. Even if you don't dig the song, I guarantee you will appreciate the talent.
In the words of my fave Howard Stern, You've done it again! You guys have made me appreciate my favorite band even more than I already did. What a fantastic reaction, it's really not just a song (or 3) almost like a score for the movie that appears in your head when you listen. Every single song really IS a work of art, you're absolutely right, there is no filler! Seen them countless times live and LOVED Tool for 25 years and yet you guys and your insightful thoughts have given me a renewed appreciation for how unique they truly are. So THANK YOU once again for taking time out of your lives to travel down such an unusual & unlikely path, and sharing it all with strangers who have become friends :)
Also, I want to thank both of you for your openness to this music. In my opinion you have had the perfect Tool journey. Could you imagine if you started here? I think you guys took the best path to get to this point where this shit just clicks for you like a damn religious experience and not many people can say that. Tool is the truth. It’s like you have to be conditioned to it and then you can’t turn back. Shout out to all the tool fans cuz guys we truly are the few.
Trash Talkers, that was an amazing 1hr 44.40 minutes ( including 1 hour of TOOLGATING) Hollywood, Smokey, you have given us so many special memories this year, TOOL truly brings beauty and genius to all of us. Their magnum opus in my opinion. Reflection is one of the greatest songs ever made. To me these songs together are a spiritual journey in musical form. It's all about destroying your ego and reaching a higher level of consciousness.
37:06 Perhaps it means that if we do not crucify the ego and it takes us completely, our spirit will be locked in it. If that happens, death could "pine away" all that we are, since death destroys all illusion. dear trash talkers, every week I look forward to opening a new chapter of this wonderful band full of magic with great enthusiasm and happiness. They are without a doubt my favorite reaction channel. Thanks to the music and your vision and predisposition in what you believe, it is possible to share in these difficult times a work of art of the fantastic four. I wish you a very blessed 2021 for you and for all subscribers. Thank you always, Spiral Out, Keep Going.
25:30 I basically just commented so I can click on this timestamp when I come back to this video in the future. This is easily my favorite part of this reaction
I'm 45 & constantly working on my own enlightenment until the day I die, so in this journey I have been gaining more respect for different kinds of music I don't care for - I still don't care for country, but I have been gaining a lot more respect for rap these days - thanks for helping make that happen.
Fuck yeeeaaahhhh, at last! These three songs are the truth. And it'll only get better with repeat listens (not to mention full top to bottom listen throughs of Lateralus). It's just unbelievable in every aspect - songwriting, pacing, PRODUCTION. It's fucking amazing. Been a wild ride watching you guys go from where you started to ending up here. Happy New Year fellas. ✊🤘
Thank you guys so much! I have listened to every Tool Tuesday (some songs more than once), thank you for helping me to survive cursed 2020, waiting for more in 2021 (it MUST be better than 2020). Thank you, pray Tool, stay kind to each other, and worship Maynard.
Tool fan on and off throughout my life. Now I've been listening everyday for a year and I can say whether you've been a fan since the beginning or just picked them up...they truly are a band that resonates with everyone.
Reflection is my favourite song and all my mates tell me I need to get on the drugs so they can tell me to get off the drugs because when I hear it, with Maynards "ethereal" vocal effect, I picture myself in a room or a void, surrounded by shards of mirror of all different shapes and sizes floating, and Maynard is in all of them singing at me, but only 1 of him is real and the rest are just, reflections. And the moment you think you've pinpointed which mirror is the real Maynard, he changes to another , so you're in a constant state of unknowing and mystery. Thanks for doing this guys. Happy New Year!
One of the special things about Tool is that they are a band that evolves. From one album to the next, they take it a step further. It's one of the best parts about them in my opinion, you can't really compare each album because they're almost a new band in each of them.
Just Extra Awesome... rewatching this one after starting out with Yall's 1st "Push It" reaction (which took me to the studio version, then Parable/Portola, then here) I'm in South Carolina riding out the Tropical Storm, and just got Tornado Alert on these first few words..."Watch the weather change"! Love Yall, Soooooo Happy Yall are in my life, Yall Never fail to put a smile on my face, and Egnight the Light in My Soul!!! Thanks All Involved with Yall getting to Be Yall!!!
Love you boys! Thanks for sharing your journey with us all! At 27:00 in your video is the beginning of one of the final movements of Triad, what Danny is doing right there is playing three polyrhythmic temps simultaneously, the kicks pattern, the snare pattern and the ride/crown pattern. That moment right there is why people say he's one of the greatest drummers alive. I played for 15 years and I could sometimes maintain a double polyrhythm. Combine that with the magic of Adam and Justin and Maynard, this is the pinnacle of Tool.
Dudes. Imagine if you had started your Tool journey with this masterpiece? I'm glad you left it as long as you did or your minds would have blown too soon.
Down here in Sydney it is Tool Wednesdays..... when I get up at the ungodly hour of 5.30am and check YT, up pops Rappers React, and the Tool track for the day. I then go work 6 hours, come back home, have a wee pipe and tuck myself into bed and watch you boys lose your minds for a while before slipping into a comatose nap state 😄😴. Thanks for being one of the good parts of 2020! Happy New Year to you 🍻🎉

@@rubaidaallen2764 I would chip in to send these guys to a concert.
@@STAR_GUARDIAN_V gotta feel it in your chest. The FI tour was amazing. I got to be at the first concert of this tour and the last concert of the tour. The pounding in my chest during Tempest was phenomenal.
You guys are the only people Ive seen experience tool on RUclips and truly get into it like I do. Most of their stuff is an internal feeling not like most music.
Watch lost vegas!
Lost in Vegas has only done some of Tools work. The only other reactor I've seen do the whole catalog is Drew Fortune. And he had similar reactions.
They have more than those u mentioned there not done yet
@@jcreature11 Alternate versions of songs. i.e. Third Eye (live) off Salival. Album versions of Pneuma, and Descending. Filler tracks like Mantra don't count as songs. So as for first experiences of Tool songs, those 5 are it.
Also L.A.M.C.
@@MilkHound have they done the Patient?
Intension is so great!!!
I love how this whole trilogy can be watched with eyes closed and you don't miss a single thing. :P
I'm so overjoyed to see a reaction video wear the listeners don't speak during the songs. They just absorb the experience in it's entirely and allow the music to do what it was intended to do. Kudos guys!
My dude on the left be looking like the priest from opiate album's artwork during reflection 😂
lol
😂😂😂hollywood was on one, in flight for sure hahaha
Holy shit that’s funny!
The my dude on the left thing!
Finally
Yes! I'm patiently waiting as well my friend
OMG yes, Ive been wanting this since they watched the live version first. We need to keep mentioning this
Agreed! Sooooooo good.
Pine away: To become thin and weak because of sadness or loss...
Thank you. Pine away means to waste away from sadness or grief. It has nothing to do with a freaking pine box!
Did they have the red and blue painted ppl hanging from the cieling?
@@stevilkenevil9960 Great memory....yeah. they did!
That guitar solo during Reflection when he repeats the melody from Disposition is my favorite moment in music.
The Holy Trinity!!!! Hollywood....get multiple packs of cigarettes......and a pillow and a blanket.....you might not come back......Smoke.....not a lot chunk but holy shit is Maynard gonna fill your soul
Idk.. I think Triad is ALL CHUNK lol
What a long road it’s been and we are finally here. Can’t wait to watch this with you guys!
We will see you there
Here we go! Today is the day! What away to end the year! Thanks guys for allowing us to relive this journey with you and through you! Much love to you both for getting many of us through this year with Toolsday!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Happy Tool Year Jenny!
Happy Tool year to you Mark! I hope you have a great one!!
Agreed, i think THE most underrated tool song is intension though, nobody ever talks about it
Saw Tool in 2002 on the lateralus tour and they jammed Triad with Meshuggah. God damn incredible
I seen that tour too Madison wi. At the time had no idea what I witnessed.
Ya brother I’m in Calgary Alberta and I was front row chest slammed into the metal barricade on that tour….one of the best days of my life.
Today is the day!!!! Prepare to be amazed. What a great way to end the year. Ready for some TOOLGATING!!! Thanks for a great year guys. Ready to see what is in store for next year. Much love guys! 🤘❤
This is like the Super Bowl of TOOLGATING, is it 5pm YET 😂
@@-TRIAD- work is taking too long....

There are no "singles", just an album, in the truest sense of the word.
The Holy Trinity was on repeat as I fell asleep, for probably about a 3 year period when I was in a tough place.
Mentally and spiritually soothing.
Thanks for the recommendation 🤘
What stain on humanity has disliked this.
I mean as a tool fan these 3 are low on my list.
@@davidjames5286 "Reflection" is really great, IMO, but the other two aren't particularly special.
@@davidjames5286 but does that warrant a downvote?
And side note, I think that clip was the least snarky I've ever seen MJK! What a lovely sentiment from him :)
Lateralus is definitely my preferred album from Tool and it might as well be the best album that exists on the surface of this planet... Love it!
I believe I speak for ALL Tool Army, and Tribe when said, WE LOVE YOU BOTH and cannot wait to see what you Cats have for us going forward. Thank you for sharing your TOOL journey with us 🙏 love to you and yours, this time next year, 100,000k subs EASY 😉
Happy Tool Year. Thanks for being here James. Still waiting for the email....

Well this wont be my regular Tuesday commute tonight, I will have to save this one for when I get home and can strap on the headphones. So excited!!!!
I just love the evolution of the way you guys become a Tool´s fan. First just regular Tshirts, Tool's Tshirts, then the hats LMAO. I felt in love with Tool the very first time a heard them when i was a teen.
Got to see them perform the Holy Trinity LIVE. It was quite epic.
Their masterpiece
It truly is
These songs reminded me of when i was 15 and i did mushrooms, stayed up all night, and as the sun was rising i listened to all 3 songs while riding my bike around in a forest.
Goosebumps are a raisin' as I watch this. Glad you guys are along for this ride I've been on so many times!
Absolutely love all your Tool Tuesdays... It just goes to show good music can cross into other people's favourites.. Tool transcends those barriers
This music just takes you some place else. I wasn’t in my body for the last 20 minutes.

Best way to hear this album is a good set of headphones, and 3.5g of some good shrooms, in a completely dark room. Now that’s an experience!!

This is not just a song, it's an experiene! Thanx for being brave enough to share it with us! 💜💜💜
I'm rewatching all your Tool reactions again because you two have been my favorite to watch still!
Tool has always been like a Portal to another Demension. I enjoy watching new folks get their mind blown & fall in love w/ them
You two are my "Go To" pair to react, reflect and experience everything Tool.
Now imagine hearing this after hearing all of the other songs on Lateralus lol. Best album of all time.
Thanks for that interview clip at the beginning. I've never seen it...and that approach makes so much sense when taking their work into perspective.
Every time I hear these I think "wow I forgot how good this is"
Hope you guys loved this one. Blow it up for a while it's fire
Love your channel
Thanks man, glad to have you aboard
You have been one of the only happy things to happen this year. This was a great way to end 2020. Thank you so much! 🌀🌀🌀
Reflection is one of my favorite Tool songs! Glad you guys enjoyed it. Reflection's lyrics are deep
Their magnum opus in my opinion. Reflection is one of the greatest songs ever made. To me these songs together are a spiritual journey in musical form. It's all about destroying your ego and reaching a higher level of consciousness.
You guys closing out the year with this made my day. Fuck yeah! Tool Army present.❤️
Brothers it has been fun watching you both take the TOOL journey during 2020.
@18:40 when the melody from the first song hits in the second song but with more aggression. That’s next level.
Now you both know why we call this "The Holy Trinity"..
Can't wait for this guys....from Day One I, along with many other Trash Talkers, have told you this is one of Tool's crowning achievements.
Guys you can't forget to do their cover of led zepplin's no quarter. Haven't seen it recommended yet but it is otherworldly!
They’ve done it
Check their playlist tool tuesday. They have done a a lot already.
I got to see this live. It was amazing!
Same! Did they have the contortionist couple from the Schism video dangle from the ceiling together like worms all thru these songs. Amazing!!
@@g.danielvelazquez7494 yes they did
Reflection is my favourite song and all my mates tell me I need to get on the drugs so they can tell me to get off the drugs because when I hear it, with Maynards "ethereal" vocal effect, I picture myself in a room or a void, surrounded by shards of mirror of all different shapes and sizes floating, and Maynard is in all of them singing at me, but only 1 of him is real and the rest are just, reflections. And the moment you think you've pinpointed which mirror is the real Maynard, he changes to another , so you're in a constant state of unknowing and mystery.
Thanks for doing this guys. Happy New Year!
Finally, God's gift to humanity. When Shiva plays his Damaru this is what comes out :)

I love that hommie has his hands like 🙏 almost the whole time
That show the power of music to put us in true awe
The pinnacle of marvelous music. This is the greatest album of my life and Hollywood’s face describes it perfectly 🤘🏼🤪
Sit back. Relax. Let tool take your mind and soul on a journey. EPIC!!
Happy New Year to you 🍻🎉
The look you dudes have at the 15 minute mark is what music is all about. Keep swinging on that spiral my friends.
