Jimmy often does not get as much love as some of Tool's more popular songs, but it has always been a top 5 for me.
Same here so much emotion in the song
Ok guys, after this you will be ready for Wings for Marie 1&2. 🙏🙏
But only after they do APC “Judith”
@@Brotha_Teresa think they did that one already
cellar door, sure as shit. Don’t know how I didn’t remember that.
@@Brotha_Teresa we already did Judith a few weeks back we heard there is an order to this particular series of song
@@Hollywood6IX Not officially, but alot of Tool fans consider Judith to be a prologue of sorts for Wings
I don't know why people are getting butt hurt when they don't do the Tool song they wanted. Like they're gonna get through them all people, have patience and enjoy their Tool journey in whatever direction it goes!
Ty bro
People get excited everyone has preferences nothing bad but when you ask for recommendations you’ll definitely get them...
Must be patient...
@@toolgrey9166 well played.
They better do the Patient next.
Never apologize for having emotions. Real men cry.
agreed
@@Hollywood6IXabsolutely
If this one choked you up, wait to hear you hear Wings and 10k Days. It’s a tear jerker
They are both gonna lose it with those two
Wings!
Let's hope they don't shy away from the length of the two songs. Which obviously have to be listened to in sequence.
They also haven't done Reflection, or Disposition/Reflection/Triad....
Reflection/Triad is all I really need though lol
Mazzini11 I’ve been requesting for them to do that trio (Disposition Reflection and Triad) for a while now. Those are a must
Ænima for the win.
That album is just perfection.
Mac an Airchinnigh agreed! What a treat for them when they can finally listen to the whole album!
It’s my fav Tool album by far. And the others are flawless. Aenima is just that much better than flawless. 🤷🏼♀️
Kendria Jones 😂😂😂😂 same
I had no idea what this song was about when i was 7 but i thought it was the coolest thing ever when they made that transition into playing the carnival riff on the guitar.
Dinkdown agreed. It was my first Tool album I was around 14 and it’s just never been beat in my eyes. While at the same time loving all their stuff. I also went deep into APC.
Hey guys Jimmy is what his mother called Maynard when he was young. His Ma was sick. Suffered for basically 10, 000 days. Maynard is a lyrical genius. Thanks guys. Enjoy.
Maynard went by the name James Keenan in High School. He went to HS in the very small town of Scottville, MI. I lived 8 miles down the road in Ludington.
Listening to Jimmy always gives me chills. My god, Maynard's voice is hauntingly beautiful.
One of my all time favorite songs... it hits hard
Stunning. Jimmy is one of many Tool songs that showcase MJK's incredible vocal range. The man can sing. 'Nuff said.
Great song incredible lyrics
”Hoold your light, Eleven lead me through each gentle step by step”
Most powerful lyric and vocal out of all the music I’ve loved through the years, the build up and crescendo is stunningly beautiful and bittersweet.
@@davidvied2507 always loved this one too. If most, if not all, Tool songs are a 10, this one is an 11.
Apparently Maynard was 11 when his mother had her aneurysm and he left to another state to live with his father
That’s correct. As I understand, him waving goodbye was when he had to go live with his dad when she had her stroke. She was paralyzed for 10,000 days.
Moved to Ohio hence the line "Under a dead Ohio sky"
Wasn’t he abused by his stepdad ?
@@Joffbozos he was born and raised in Ohio, he left when he was 11. I think he moved to somewhere in Michigan but not 100% sure
@@ohioagainsttheworld676 Grand Rapids area. I think Scottville.
THE PATIENT
It's time now.
Yep
I second that motion
Play Eon leading into it
My personal favorite
Eon Blue + The Patient.
Hollywood is going to lose his stuff when they hear wings for Marie 1&2
Yeah. Can’t wait for that
Facts!
Water works. 😭🤣
Absofuckinglutely
💯
his mom had a stroke when he was 11 and that's when he went to live with his father, he waved goodbye. 10000 days later, just over 27 years, she passed away.
and yes I know that's an approximate timeline not an exact one.
Was is a stroke or an aneurysm? I was thinking it was a spinal aneurysm that left her paralyzed
Doug Parker it was an aneurysm.
Doug Parker A ruptured aneurism in the brain= hemorrhagic stroke. The brain doesn’t get oxygenated blood just like an ischemic stroke.
He went to live with his father four years after the cerebral aneurysm.
Today is not another day of quarantine, today is TOOL TUESDAY
Indeed
One thing that can not be quarantined is the mind! 🌀🌀👽👽
TOOLSDAY family.
Nicely put. Tool Tuesday should be recognized internationally.
@@MrKrushgutz Toolsday.
Jimmy is one of my favorites. "11" is clearly referencing the age he was when his mom got sick and he had to go live with his dad, but he also uses it like a name. I see it as him talking to his inner child who he lost at that same time. When you go through something traumatic like that at a young age you are forced to grow up fast, and this song is him finally facing that pain and trying to reunite with his inner child.
Yeah, because he had to grow up too fast and his mother is clearly a hero to him. She was frozen in time kinda from that point until she passed away and stuck in that place for years that's where all his anger came from too. Watching her struggle and suffer.
@Carl's Brother Imma need you to roll back that attitude.
@Carl's Brother Lol. I didn't mean it should be clear to them, just that it's the more obvious reference.
I have to admit, your reaction videos are the most authentic of all I've seen on RUclips. Tool is more than musicians. Something magical about those four guys.
Cant wait for the lost keys/rosetta stoned reaction but jimmy is a great choice on this fine Tuesday
Just a reminder: the best source to watch Rosetta Stoned is here
ruclips.net/video/VgbOo0sMpLE/видео.html
It's a video that has lost keys/Rosetta Stoned already combined and lyrics as well. You won't regret it.
It's Lipan Conjuring / Lost Keys (Blame Hofmann) / Rosetta Stoned
@@Qliphirot yeah. But remember these guys have a video length limit, content restrictions, and other red tape by RUclips. Intros like Lipan Conjuring isnt really something "reachable," to.
@@boycejw1
I was not aware about this, thanks for bring an important point.
Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned is my favorite Tool song. I cannot WAIT to see them react to it!
This one ,for me, has the most emotional impact. I’ve cried many a times
Under a dead Ohio sky
And still their most underrated song
Same here, at 12 my dad hand 3 brain surgery he was never himself again
One of my favorite lines from any Tool song and don’t even know why
Under a dead Ohio sky yesssds
The way that line is delivered is so gripping.
Wings for Marie pt1 / 10,000 Day pt 2.
Never in my life has music made me lose it like these two, the feeling is overwhelming but these two songs which have to be done together are a masterpiece
The closest I've felt to a song destroying me.
Where it all began with Maynard writing about his momma. ❤️
“Maynard” is a cartoon character, stick figure, he used to draw. He took it on as his moniker while in the military. His real name is James Herbert Keenan. In interviews I’ve heard him refer to himself as Jim.
Jimmy is the very start of the whole Judith "saga"...
Proceeds with song Judith and The Patient
And ends with wings for Marie (Judith Marie Keenan) part 1+2.
The whole thing is... touching, to say the least.
Great reaction guys 👏🏻
Ahh, the Judith files. Can’t wait, guys!
Here's something that going to blow your mind. I think Intermission, Jimmy, and Third Eye are all tied together.
Intermission represents the innocence of his childhood which comes to an sudden halt which leads into Jimmy.
Jimmy deals with the life changing incident involving his mother and losing that innocence / part of himself.
Third eye is about him searching and finding that missing/lost part of himself and becoming whole/ complete again.
Take another look at the lyrics and tell me what you think. Thanks for another great video keep up the good work.
Wow hadn't thought about that
If only I didn't have to work on TOOL TUESDAY, I watch it FIRST THING when I get home. I do look forward to this too!
Hell yeah bro we appreciate it
First thing I do when I’m off work as well. I work from home shut down the laptop and it’s Tool Tuesday!!!
First thing I do as Well! 😊 Hey Morris 🤘
You guys should really read Maynard’s biography “The perfect union of contrary things” The guy on is another level of living and thinking 🤯
No question about that. I love hearing what MJK has to say. Interesting on a whole other level of thinking. At the same time, I also think the book is a bit too me, me, me. Yes, I know it's an autobiography, but after a while I was like dude enough with the "it's all about me" 🙄
great book
First off, I want to say that I've loved watching the journey you both have set yourself on. It's great to live vicariously through others and their first reactions to Tool songs. Second, MJK's birth name was James Herbert Keenan, hence "Jimmy"
His mother, Judith, suffered from an aneurysm when he was 11. This left her paralyzed for 27 years (10,000 Days) until her death. Her unwavering faith was the inspiration for the song "Judith", which you've already reacted to. When you do the songs, it's imperative that "Wings For Marie" and "10,000 Days" are done together. They are a sort of send-off to his mother after she passed. After that, I highly recommend doing "Horizons" by Puscifer. It serves as a sort of epilogue and farewell to Judith after he spread her ashes over a portion of his vineyard.
I also recommend reading Maynard's book "A Perfect Union of Contrary Things" and seeing the documentary "Blood Into Wine", which is about his wine making business and just a cool look into a small portion of his life.
Keep up the good work, I look forward to Tuesdays almost as much as you two do!
Orestes - a perfect circle also
Guys, I was so glad to see that this song hit you the way it did. You are ready for Wings. 11 was the age that Judith had her aneurysm, and went to live with his father. His Mother expired about 10,000 days later. These songs, Jimmy, Judith Wings for Marie, and 10,000 days are probably going to hit much harder now, but you will appreciate it that much more. Spiral out, brothers! And dont worry, many of us cry with you. We know how TOOL hits, brothers!
Such an incredible and sincere reaction. Love that this one hit you the way it did. The climax of the song ( 8:38 in your video) is probably my favorite moment in any Tool song.
My grandma's dealing with a lot of health issues recently and not being able to visit her right now is killing me! Thank you and @toolband for this! : )
"Under a dead Ohio sky. Eleven has been and will be waiting.
Defending his light and wondering
Where the hell have I been?
Sleeping, lost, and numb
I'm so glad that I have found you
I am wide awake and heading home." is the most haunting and tragic lyrics I have ever heard.
Breaks this often cynical heart wide open.
Tool - H.W.A.P.
What's with the abbreviatton?
Badest tool song
I've been voting for that one for weeks! It is angry and hateful and rocks your ass off!
11 is how old Maynard was when his mom had her stroke.
Me too. My mom is exactly as Hollywood decried his mom. I too will be extremely upset when my mother passes away. But I hope that doesn't happen for many many years from now.
Have to give you guys credit for picking up the lyrics so fast. It's all that rap skill coming to use.
Holy shit just went through it with you! Thats amazing how you guys are feeling it like I was, how we were. Thanks guys
Two things, I like how you guys just let the song play and didn't react till it was over, also like how you guys sat and dissected the lyrics to understand the songs meaning. This was also my first time hearing the song so that really helps. A very professional and respectable reaction. +1Sub.
This & Eulogy are my favorite Tool songs ever. Loved watching this reaction. 🙏🏻
Tool Army Here, Maynard was 11 when his mother became paralyzed and bound to a wheel chair till her death in 2003 at the age of 59, from the time she became paralyzed until her death was 10,000 days, the name of their 4th album that was released in 2006. Please check out TOOL (INTOLERANCE)
You guys are heading back home... 😁 I'm excited!
Oh sheeet! Opening the chapter of Judith Marie! Now since you fellas already checked out A Perfect Circle “Judith”, the last part of this chapter would be Wings for Marie (PT 1 & 2).
YAY BOY!!! been waiting for this one forever. Jimmy is one of my favorite Tool songs! Have to play Intermission leading into the song!!
Katlin Fergusson if I could chose it would be HWAP-Intermission-Jimmy. Great trifecta of songs
Hell yeah, Jimmy is a good one. Dunno if you guys checked out the short track 'Intermission' that plays prior to Jimmy on the album but it is pretty neat and serves as an excellent lead-in to Jimmy.
This one always hits me hard. I've had brain surgery twice for an aneurysm that keeps coming back. I currently have one that is tenuously stable, but at any time that could change. My son is 9.
I was 16 when my Mom left the 🌍. And I was fucked up for years. Then at 22 I went and found the H.I.M. and been on this journey to meet our King someday.
I'm so happy y'all did this Song finally. Bless you both.
Such a genuine reaction to an amazing song!!
I just got to say, I am a fairly new follower of your channel, and when I first saw it was rappers reacting to rock, metal, punk or whatever, but have witnessed an authentic conversion and genuine built love and admiration for this band and similar style of music, that makes me emotional and a believer than people can change and open their minds to the beauty it difference! You are real and I appreciate you guys!! Much love!
Losing your childhood...this song invited me to look back and face up to how much hurt I've been carrying with me for so long. I'm trying to figure out how to comfort this child inside, heal the wounds, accept that it's a part of me and keep moving forward. This music has helped me in my growth, no question
Hey Hollywood you are a man above man. Let it flow bro. Maynard's Ma suffered in a home for 10000 days. 11 was when she took sick. My Ma left me at 23. Enjoy what ya got guys. Peace and love.
Smoke, there's no rift for me. I love both bands bruh
This song gets me a lot too. Powerful singing to and about his younger self, both parties looking for healing. Incredible.
It’s cool to see you guys experience and appreciate the music and lyrics the way the tool army does. It’s a spiritual journey and something that touches your soul. Not many other bands have the ability to touch so many different emotions or feelings, some of which you didn’t even know you had.
parabol/parabola and wings for marie pt 1 & 2 are THE TooL songs that people react to
So excited! What an awesome song!
Hi, guys. His mother was paralyzed when he was 11. and she died only about 27 years later; 10,000 days later. This is very sad story.
As a long time tool fan, I wish I could "thumbs up" this twice. Well done gentlemen.
this is why i subscribed to you guys. i react the same way when i hear this song. extremely powerful. much love from austin, texas
By far the most hypnotic Tool song
I never thought about intermission in to Jimmy the way y'all explained it but it makes total sense and i been a Tool fan since 97'.
I know right
Wow amazing reaction to this one! Like others have said, you guys are now ready for the epic conclusion to Jimmy and Judith: Wings for Marie (Part 1) and 10,000 Days (Wings Part 2). This song doesn't really make me emotional, more so 10,000 Days does, but damn, your reaction on this one did just that.
Great job guys! I was listening in my car on my way home from work instead of at home as usual. When I heard you getting choked up, NGL I started choking up a little.
"11 is when we waved goodbye" He was sent from Ohio to Michigan(?) to live with his father at age 11. It's a complicated story, and I don't fully remember the finer details. His mother Judith Marie had her stroke, or aneurysm or whatever, and was then diagnosed with (I think) cancer. She suffered for roughly 10,000 days, thus the name of that album. Her illness is also what brought about his great disdain for the church. She was a good parishioner, always paid her tithes, participated in functions, etc. Very religious and what one would describe as a "good Christian". When she got sick and could no longer do what she used to, (could barely even attend) she was ostracized and essentially told that it was her fault for getting sick because she hadn't done enough (or something to that effect). She was told nobody at the church would help her, or even pray for her.
Also, no. No rift between Tool and Dream Theater fans I'm aware of. I don't like Dream Theater (the vocals and keyboards are lame, and the overall sound is a bit lightweight for my taste), but I've never heard of a particular rivalry. I respect them immensely, I just don't like what they do.
Lads! Still waiting on you dropping a reaction to Wings for Marie parts one and two! An absolute masterpiece about Maynards late mother. Keep up the great work boys
Looking forward for this reaction! You guys are awesome - honest, simple and kind-minded. I was thinking, before you make reaction maybe it is good to know lyrics meaning? Of course Maynard left room for different interpretations like in any other song, but I'm inclined to understand it in most obvious way: "Jimmy" is probably a nickname to his name James. It is a song about his childhood and tragic event when his mother became paralyzed in 1976 when Keenan was 11. His mother is theme for several other songs like 'Wings for Marie' and '10000 days' (10000 days is the number of a days she suffered this horrible condition from until she died). It will be great if you could cover those two after this one?
This is what absolute perfection sounds like. One of the crown jewels on Aenima. That album.... there are no words. None. "Jimmy" brings tears everytime. Thank you for reviewing it 🙌🙌🙌
Congratulations to both of you for feeling this song 💪🏽😎💪🏽 its very deep and MJK lost his mother do to illness and he felt the chruch turned its back on her.. She suffered for 10,000 days before her passing 😢
I think this is when he was separated from his mom to go live with his dad in Michigan. His mom did pass away, but I think that was later in his life.
10000 days later...
Music should do that to you. It brings out the best in us.
You are in good hands in the Tool Army.
And Danny’s fills give me chills. 🥁
My mother was sick most my life and this song is so personal to me as well. She was addicted to drugs and she slept most my life and of course I had no supervision at home. This lack of parental supervision led me to connect with so many Tools songs. Addiction, social issues, pain, happiness, and the poetic darkness I had something relatable for the first time. Now that my mama has passed it pulls a huge part of my emotions.
His Maynard mama had a aneurism I think and Maynard was 11 when she was paralyzed.
YES. THERE ARE ABSOLUTELY TOOL/DREAM THEATER FANS.
You guys have such an open mind to all of this. Its really awesome to watch your channel. 👏
To be fair, Tool has all of what makes Rap great, at least from my experience, I like the stories that Rap gives you (not really digging the shake your ass and watch my bling raps) but some of them have the deep storytelling, like Dance with the devil with immortal technique. That song just rammed a spear through my heart.
I get the same feeling when listening to Tool, although I do need lyrics to fully get the sentences.
It's an emotional experience.
Love that you guys experiencing it as well.
❤️❤️❤️you guys are ready for Wings for Marie 1&2. In this song, jimmy you can feel his pain in his voice. Tool is great at invoking emotion and painting a picture with music. Great job! ❤️
11 is when she began her 10,000 days in the fire... wings 1&2 next. it’s a must
His mother had an aneurysm and was paralyzed for roughly an estimated 10,000 days so she did not die til years later. Many people below mentioned what happened but I don't know if they mentioned that she was paralyzed for the rest of her life. You guys have to do wings for Marie part 1 and 2 together which was already suggested below as well. That is a powerful ass song and I cannot listen to it now without tearing up because it is so powerful. Man I'm 34 years old and just had a heart attack a week ago, do me a favor guys and check out wings for Marie part 1 and 2. I'm going to use my pity party to my advantage 😜. My heart is functioning at 50% what it should be as of now so if it does not improve I have to get a damn defibrillator placed in my chest, but if there's one thing I've learned in this life so far.. shithappens man. Love the content guys, keep it up.
🤘😝🤘
I feel you, Hollywood. Imma momma's boy and imma gramma's boy. This song and "Wings for Marie" have been played almost every day for a year since my gramma passed. Thank you for doing this song
Came here expecting a technical analysis and comparison between phyche-metal and rap music, cried in stead. I'm really glad you guys are doing this.
It's him, healing internally. The proverbial "if I knew then what I know now"... How everything would turn out ok. He's mentally healing himself and telling that kid to "glow child glow"... Life goes on.
Tool got me through several emotional chapters in my life with the lyrics. Its primal and kicks you in the heart man. Embrace the spiral
Same ❤
This song is so haunting. Especially the contrast when you move from Intermission to Jimmy.
My mother died when I was 5 of cancer. My brain has pretty much pushed out any memory of her. My family was old school and didn't talk about it at all. I grew up very confused as any family I remembered immediately disappeared from my life. I have zero contact with any of my mother's family and I have no idea why. My dad provided and worked long hours in the painters union after my mom's death so I rarely saw him. He didn't talk to me at all but he tried to teach me things when he could. He eventually remarried and turned super religious and conservative. Love all of them still because everyone goes through stuff but I can completely relate with this song!!! TOOL saved my life in my 20's. Honestly, I wouldn't have the perspective I have now with my kids if I hadn't gone through it. PEACE!
Love your reactions guys, would love to see you react to the official video for Kaitangata by Alien Weaponry.
Love your reactions, you both have great insights and personalities. Every time I watch them I think of another song that you'd appreciate. I've left some in Patreon message. While not tool, one, not on Patreon list, is another deep song that can be broken down, there are theories online about the meaning and they ring rather true.
Take a look into G-Dragon - Coup De Tat (MV) and see what you think.
man tool tuesday pumps me up luv u guys
became a very cool ritual in my life
She got *sick* when she was 11, saying goodbye because she was there in body but not in mind anymore....she suffered for 27 plus years *Ten Thousand Days* until she finally passed. She never *to anyone knowledge got to appreciate the art her young boy brought to this world* After she passed Wings was written as a tribute for her. Judith is in the middle as far as i know and he was really angry at her constant appeasement to a god that would let her suffer so badly. I hope that helps. Cheers and great reaction guys...very genuine.
Tool has been my favorite band since high school in the 90s. In this song when he mentions "a dead Ohio sky" hits hard. My dad had a work project in Ohio for about nine months when I was in junior high. We absolutely hated it there.
No, at 11 his mom had a stroke, and was left cannatonic for the rest of her days. Which it took 10,000 days for her to pass on. Lots of their songs are about his mom. He just saying thats when he wave goodbye, cause she never spoke again.
I've never got into "Jimmy" much but my grandmother was sick suffering in a nursing home two years ago. For some reason after Queen Elizabeth passed away, I knew it was my grandmother's time. I got my family to sign the DNR form and prayed for the first time in years that I knew it was her time, just please take her in her away peacefully in her sleep (she always said I hope I go in my sleep) She ended up passing away in her sleep on 11/11/22! 😳
Row zetta stow nd. Couldn’t be more clear lol. Seriously though I look forward to Tuesday’s guys. Keep it up
His first name is James. His mom called him Jimmy. She had a brain aneurysm when he was 11 years old and became paralyzed. She lived after that for approximately 10,000 days. She died when Maynard was around 38 years old. He went on an emotional journey dealing with Judith's religious beliefs and seemed to change his way of looking at life through his years. TOOL's album 10,000 Days is named after the time Judith spent in her paraplegic state.
Love you guys! Keep up your journey of TOOL! Spiral out!
Judith Marie Keenan was paralyzed by a stroke in 1976 and was stuck in a wheelchair all her life. Other songs like "Judith" by A Perfect Circle (Maynard is the singer), "Eulogy," "The Patient," and "Wings for Marie pt. I and II" by Tool cover Maynard's relationship with his mom and his struggles with her faith. She died in 2003.
Great choice!
11 is standing still. (Like your faith)... listen close Maynard whispers it among other whispers throughout the song.
Two of the best songs ever..
Van Morrison, Into the Mystic.
Dire Straits, Sultan's of Swing.
Being a metal head I really dig you guys and your breakdowns...thank you!
Music SHOULD do that to you, my bro. And I’m glad you’re feeling it 🙏🏼
The 2 climax parts of song, are the perfect metal sequence, tone and frequency - within it's riffs.
Organ is best into ever! Reminds me of the circus or ice cream truck. It represents his childhood up to 11. Song is soooooo fun to play. Closed eyes is best, just let the music envelope you, fill you, flow thru you. That's true for all music, specially on 1st listen. Wide awake & headed home. Music SHOULD do that to everyone. It's why music is. His mom had anyerism when he was 11. He had to say goodbye to the mom he knew. She was his stability and faded away. It's hitting you that way because it's TOOL. you've only scratched the surface. Ain't heard nothing yet. Spiral out. Keep going.
This was a beautiful reaction gentleman*~☆ Much love!
At age 11 was when his mother had her stroke. Wait till you listen to Wings of Marie pt1 and especially 10,000 Days (Wings pt2). They are about his mother's death. I lost my mother 2yrs ago to a stroke and I listened to these songs for 3 months straight crying. Still cry to this day when I hear them.
I love where powerful music can take us.. Not always Rainbows and Unicorns. Sometimes it takes us into the murky deep.
