Yet another under-appreciated game that sold poorly just because it was on the Wii. Even though the Wii had a MASSIVE install base.... Man, is it just me, or was the Wii era weird as hell when it came to Nintendo fans. "The Wii doesn't have enough games for CORE gamers." Or, "I'd get the game, if it wasn't on the Wii." **facepalm**
The game had bad sells mostly because Tatsunoko is a completely weird thing outside of Japan. The problem with the Wii era, is that Nintendo was taking a direction that the gamers are not linking it, nor even the most diehard Nintendo fanboy was happy with the Wii direction. That's the main reason of why Nintendo made the Wii U focused on core games, but despite the Wii U being an excellent console, it's failing in your main objective, and now, third party companies are avoiding the console at all costs, making Nintendoomed articles and videos exploding in popularity.
Just some notes. This game thrived on the Wii. Capcom notably stated it sold far better than they initially expected. They are known to not provide very high marketing or backing for the localization of many titles that aren't initial cash crops to that specific region (God Hand, Sengoku Basara). Tatsunoko Productions as a whole decided on the Wii as a platform. This likely due in part to having released previous titles based on their characters on the system. Capcom settled on the Wii due to it's install base and drastically lower developmental costs--note that they still needed to obtain a license for every character planned for the game, even before development (which eventually lead to several Tatsunoko characters being dropped in the long run). The original arcade game was based on Wii architecture and simply ported over to the Wii with some features (and all of the glitches). And the entire reason the game was brought over was to appeal to a broader audience.
happy 15th anniversary tatsunoko vs. capcom!!! :3 the last vs. game i got into & hope we someday see a rerelease with the scrapped characters/minigames included.
I just recently got this game and boy,you weren't kidding about the combat system being easy to use and pick up.I feel like a pro even though I've only played the game for literally 8 hours.I've gotten to where I can really own with Viewtiful Joe and Yatterman-1,now if only I was convinced enough to go get a router for my Wii,something tells me I'd be playing this for days.
lol im glad im not the only one that thought that Zero was the most over powered fighter in the game. given i didnt complain cuz hes my favorite video game Character
Samanosuke is based off the likeness of an actor named Takeshi Kaneshiro, who did the motion capture and Japanese voice work for the character. Contracting him is relatively expensive as far as gaming voice actors go, and there'd be some large backlash from the fans if they had included Samanosuke without doing such (not to mention, they'd still need his permission to use his likeness). Thus, we got Soki instead.
1) TvC had done so well it led to the digital release of MvC 1 and 3 and finally 3 2) The anime cut scenes were taken out due to taksunoko (and due to MvC's picture endings, it was still allowed 3) Frank West and Zero were US exclusives 4)You can unlock a minigame by collecting all the cold letter in the credits after you beat a story (in japan, everyone had a minigame) 5) this game sold better than MvC3 and UmvC3 combined
What I find to be hilariously paradoxal is that Casshan sparked the Mega Man X series, and here we have Zero from Mega Man X and Cashan in the same place. It's like a grandfather who never knew his son, meets his grandchild.
1:57 I dissagree: Capcom VS SNK 2 is MILES better than Marvel VS Capcom 2. Six different stiles per character, a massive roster and way more balanced. MvC2 may have lots of characters but half of them are useless.
@Nayrman214 Well, a bit late, but "Metaknight territory"? I just picked up Brawl a few days ago, and from what I've played he isn't broken or overpowered. I played a few matches online with a friend cross-country, and one didn't win when one chose MK. (We both did it twice.) Seeing as you've been a gamer for a longer time, mind explaining?
Johnny, I think you should do a "Month of Marvel vs Capcom" (or Marvel vs Capcom Marathon) doing the following reviews in the following order: Johnny vs. X-Men: Children of the Atom/Marvel Super Heroes Johnny vs. X-Men vs. Street Fighter/Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter Johnny vs. Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes Johnny vs. Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes Johnny vs. Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds/Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
ok, since you review this game, it leads to one important (ok, maybe important but still...) question, when you buy "Marvel vs. Capcom 3" would you review that cause I swear to god, i'm so psyched XD
if I ever get a Wii I'll at least play Tatsunoku vs Capcom. I didn't realize that Capcom lost the Marvel license in 2005, here's hoping they get a chance to make a MvC3 eventually. Who knows, maybe Disney will make Marvel vs Disney....Kingdom Hearts 3 wih Marvel characters has been a rumor going around, though. When you said "10-year-old mind" and 1997 it made me feel really old :)
Zero is pretty broken in the air. Which if you know vs. games is where you get most of your damage dealt from air combos. Zero, while not game breakingly cheap, can come pretty close to Metaknight territory if used by someone good.
marvel vs capcom 2 is epic! one tip id give is for a great team get BB.Hood irom man and war machine, when ur special attack gauge is at level 3 make all the characters preform their special attacks at once. the combo you get is so big...
I was born too late so I can never appreciate that some hardcore fans prefer 2D sprites in HD. But I prefer the 3D character models in and 2D gane that's new.
that golden fridge was sunshine from kinnikuman or muscle for us americans but the anime was never released here in the us but the sequel called ultimate muscle was released but the first episode is so weird watch and you will understand or watch nakateleeli's let's muscle series so he can explain the back story
@sharmarkemaster He's not CHEAP per-say, just that he's overpowered considering what game this is (ironically, Zero is massively over powered once you get a move of his in any of the X games X4 onward, making him actually better than X most of the time). You can still use him, just that some people don't like playing against him.
Am I the only one who bought this game solely to play a game with Tekkaman Blade? I remembered watching in 1992 on UPN but couldn't even remember his name till I saw a trailer for this game. Over the course of 14 years I never met anybody who knew what Technoman Blade was...
A sequel is very very unlikely, Capcom deal with Tatsunoko expired a while ago and are no longer able to sell Tatsunoko vs Capcom on their website store. So yeah...
its a damn shame capcom won't bring this to the PS3 or Xbox360 but I read and heard rumors that they were making a Tatsunoko vs. Capcom 2 idk if that's true but I am a fan of the capcom vs series and how cool would it be to see a cross over of DBZ I so bad would like to see an CG movie or comic if they can't do it like what there doing with mega man and sonic cross over for the first time so there no reason why this cross over can't happen.
"Unless you use Zero. Then I'll use Zero. (pause)... Zero."
Iz hee tryina tell iz zometing?
5:40 “if there’s one thing I hate, it’s lag.” *shows Smash Bros*
Ah, some things never change.
You can't really compare NamcoxCapcom with Marvel vs. Capcom since NxC is a strategy RPG.
capcom vs snk i can see since it felt lesser in some areas but yeah namcoxcapcom is an rpg that was never released here so not a good comparison.
Now that the collection is coming out, anyone else want him to do a review of the Marvel vs Capcom series
Yet another under-appreciated game that sold poorly just because it was on the Wii. Even though the Wii had a MASSIVE install base....

This game rocked..I spent hours upon hours playing it.
Thankfully Nintendo has learned their lesson with the switch
Just some notes. This game thrived on the Wii. Capcom notably stated it sold far better than they initially expected. @@dontegraves5051 Got some sources on this? I'm interested in reading more about TvC.
This game still looks amazing even today.
One of the best fighting games ever unfortunately sentenced to obscurity by poor marketing. Almost no one heard about it when it came out.
I guess Zero is the Meta Knight of this game.
Bronson Ferrigno that seems implied.
Zero's amazing in every crossover fighting game he's in.
happy 15th anniversary tatsunoko vs. capcom!!! :3
the last vs. game i got into & hope we someday see a rerelease with the scrapped characters/minigames included.
Never deny Zero. He will, I repeat, WILL, win every time.
No Speed Racer or classic Mega Man. This was still a good game, but I can't help but feel like this was a missed opportunity.
I think they wanted to use speed racer but copyright was a bit tough for licensing rights
Wow, these videos are getting better and better. Great review! ^_^
Gold refrigerator...LMAO!
I just recently got this game and boy,you weren't kidding about the combat system being easy to use and pick up.I feel like a pro even though I've only played the game for literally 8 hours.I've gotten to where I can really own with Viewtiful Joe and Yatterman-1,now if only I was convinced enough to go get a router for my Wii,something tells me I'd be playing this for days.
holy shit i had no idea johnny ever reviewed this game. damn
lol im glad im not the only one that thought that Zero was the most over powered fighter in the game. given i didnt complain cuz hes my favorite video game Character
and he still was OP in MvC3 and UMvC3 regardless. THAT LIGHTNING LOOP that even ChrisG's team (Morrigan, Doom, Vergil) had problems with.
i love gold refridgerator
@FIGHTFANNERD3
You really think so? Was it the character themes? Because I miss those too.

I would get this, but i would probably play as the capcom characters 99% of the time
Frank West + Karas
Instant wins.
Rival Schools... Why don't you have more games?! ;~;
at the very least give the series a rerelease like your planning to with other series since its on the playstation store in japan.
Great game I played this with my dad all the time
Wonder if he would ever redo these videos, cause man.... some of these games need the modern Johnny touch.
you are one of the lucky ones, lets pray that the 4th game will have great wifi for everyone.
1) TvC had done so well it led to the digital release of MvC 1 and 3 and finally 3
2) The anime cut scenes were taken out due to taksunoko (and due to MvC's picture endings, it was still allowed

TheMarioMan247
What I find to be hilariously paradoxal is that Casshan sparked the Mega Man X series, and here we have Zero from Mega Man X and Cashan in the same place. It's like a grandfather who never knew his son, meets his grandchild.
good review johnny, I was actually quite cuirious to pick up this game. Lol, that Brawl reference was perfect :P
they should make a capcom vs konami, it be awesome to see mega man and simon belmot fighting, or maybe solid snake and chris redfield
How’s Smash Bros Ultimate?
Zero 4 the win any game that has Zero as a fighter is in my collection Zero gotta love him XD
1:57 I dissagree: Capcom VS SNK 2 is MILES better than Marvel VS Capcom 2. Six different stiles per character, a massive roster and way more balanced. MvC2 may have lots of characters but half of them are useless.
yeah id play the capcom vs snk series over the marvel vs capcom games past 1.
6:09-6:12 Zero.
Why wasn't the Samurai Pizza Cats here...
5:43 savage
the mini games in the original version were also taken out
Johhny in Newport Kentucky At Gameworks there is Marvel vs Capcom 2 arcade cabinet
They should make a Minions (Despicable Me) vs Rabbids. Reviews on the Run said that and I lol'd at the idea.
@freshtrav97 It's the Megeman [X] costume. You unlock it in the actual game. WITH A REAL MEGA BUSTER. And a fake one that shoots tennis balls.
This game is pretty fun, I might own it oneday.
Great review johnny! :)
@Nayrman214 Well, a bit late, but "Metaknight territory"? I just picked up Brawl a few days ago, and from what I've played he isn't broken or overpowered. I played a few matches online with a friend cross-country, and one didn't win when one chose MK. (We both did it twice.)
Seeing as you've been a gamer for a longer time, mind explaining?
Even though I'm not a huge fan of fighting games( Brawl however was awesome). I may consider renting this. Thank for another good review.
Johnny, I think you should do a "Month of Marvel vs Capcom" (or Marvel vs Capcom Marathon) doing the following reviews in the following order:
Johnny vs. X-Men: Children of the Atom/Marvel Super Heroes
Johnny vs. X-Men vs. Street Fighter/Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
Johnny vs. Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes
Johnny vs. Marvel vs. Capcom 2: New Age of Heroes
Johnny vs. Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds/Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3
I use Frank and Zero as well, occasionally I switch it up with Zero and Karas, he's a badass.
ok, since you review this game, it leads to one important (ok, maybe important but still...) question, when you buy "Marvel vs. Capcom 3" would you review that cause I swear to god, i'm so psyched XD
everyone list down your favourite Capcom characters! Out side of this game too Mine is Megaman Zero
Mega-Man, Bass, and Zero. :P
Megaman zero Bass Ken
Frank West, Phoenix wright, and Leon Kennedy. ...What?
Hey Johnny, have you discovered the fun little arcade shooting game yet?
Tatsunoko also made Mach GoGoGo, which here in America is Speed Racer.
These are the faces of EEVVVIILL.
I'd glady take you on but I don't have a Wii. I'd like to try this game!
This game looks okay, but it is missing Ken Masters from the Street Fighter series. Plus, this game is compatible with Wii arcade sticks.
Aahhhh awesome, you reviewed this!
The reason why Zero is a top-teir character... He is familiar to everyone (except to some Australian people.)
if I ever get a Wii I'll at least play Tatsunoku vs Capcom.
Oh man, my best friend and I spent hours playing X-men vs. Street Fighters. We used to love that game soooooooo much...
The Brawl disc is like "I'M LOOKING AT YOU,BRAWL."
John, will you review Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds when it comes out?
Ahh, that intro is so nostalgic for me.
You will give it a nine point ZERO out of ten
@SomecallmeJohnny What do you think of the character themes that came back?
Zero is pretty broken in the air. Which if you know vs. games is where you get most of your damage dealt from air combos. Zero, while not game breakingly cheap, can come pretty close to Metaknight territory if used by someone good.
My friend once said that Zero line, so I guess he watched this before I did. Or... *head explodes from realizing something I dont know.*
Hey are you ever gonna review Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 or Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite?
Infinite? He’s nooooot weeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkk
marvel vs capcom 2 is epic! one tip id give is for a great team get BB.Hood irom man and war machine, when ur special attack gauge is at level 3 make all the characters preform their special attacks at once. the combo you get is so big...
Excellent review!
It would be cool if Johnny redid this review on his Versus Videos.
Good review, but he forgot Doronjo on the Tatsunoko Side.
Are you and Eliot psyched for Marvel vs Capcom 3?
Morrigan and Zero are some of my favorites, too.
I was born too late so I can never appreciate that some hardcore fans prefer 2D sprites in HD. But I prefer the 3D character models in and 2D gane that's new.
Will you review Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3?
The only bad with MvC2 is that damn jazz music! Adding you to friend list Johnny, prepare for zero >:3
6:11 what is zero over powered in that game
"unless you use zero. In which case i'll use zero ...... zero"
Does Karas turn into a jet?
okay, who couldn't help but laugh when he said Golden Refridgerator?
Im surprised you haven't reviewed marvel vs Capcom 3 or ultimate marvel vs Capcom 3
that golden fridge was sunshine from kinnikuman or muscle for us americans but the anime was never released here in the us but the sequel called ultimate muscle was released but the first episode is so weird watch and you will understand or watch nakateleeli's let's muscle series so he can explain the back story
Wander what is would be like if they did Capcom vs Dragonball Z (Budokai 1, 2, 3 Style)
Will you ever review Marvel vs. Capcom 2?
@sharmarkemaster He's not CHEAP per-say, just that he's overpowered considering what game this is (ironically, Zero is massively over powered once you get a move of his in any of the X games X4 onward, making him actually better than X most of the time). You can still use him, just that some people don't like playing against him.
@SomecallmeJohnny I know there's a third game coming out in 2011 but you can download marvel vs capcom 2 off xbox live
i miss this opening
It not capcoms fault that zero is a bloodthirsty god of destruction
Hey Johnny why don't you review "BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend" that's a great game and I would like to hear your opinion on it.
Am I the only one who bought this game solely to play a game with Tekkaman Blade? I remembered watching in 1992 on UPN but couldn't even remember his name till I saw a trailer for this game. Over the course of 14 years I never met anybody who knew what Technoman Blade was...
Haven't played it and don't really plan on it, but it looks pretty epic.
2:51 O man, I love the cartoon about this Genie *good childhood memories* xD
Capcom Vs Namco Vs Sega Vs Marvel Vs DC Vs Toei. Instant best-seller!
Dr Wahwee.
Do a review of the marvel Vs Capcom series
Johnny: I look forward to kicking your ass
Me: Time to set up my online
Johnny: Unless you use Zero
Me: WELL FUK!
i was a bigger fan of capcom vs snk than marvel vs capcom mostly just because i recognize more people from it since im a big snk fan
Can someone explain to me why Zero was emphasized at the end of the video?
Until Marvel vs Capcom 3, and Street Fighter X Tekken
Judging by your picture and comment, you are the crossover guy.
+NaXEthan Shonen jump vs Nintendo
and
Dengeki Bunko vs Bandai Namco!
The same studio behind TvC also worked on MvC 3. But after Infinite, I'm starting to respect MvC 3 more.
@LewizX90
You mean the Japanese version?
Awesome review! I might get this :)
"Frank West who has covered wars" ROFL XD
i can't find Zero's anime ending :c
Fear not Johnny, there's going to be a Marvel vs Capcom 3 in spring 2011
6:10 Unless you use Zero, and in that case I'll use Zero.....Zero! I laughed so hard at that
A sequel is very very unlikely, Capcom deal with Tatsunoko expired a while ago and are no longer able to sell Tatsunoko vs Capcom on their website store. So yeah...
a full review of the marvel vs capcom serie would be nice.
