One time my friend made me lose my ice power up. He had a non shakable controller. So I picked him up he said "Thanks for the lift". I said "THIS IS MY REVENGE" and threw him into a bottomless pit. He was mad. My brother, cousin, and I were laughing

I like to think that this game has reached "underrated" status nowadays. It's absolutely a wonderful game.
+BizerkPixel It's just that that the Wii U game is better. I mean, both have perfect gameplay, but what stick out in the U game are the gorgeous visuals. The Wii game is way too bland when compared.

While I know that the "new" moniker has been shoved down our throats over the years, this game was actually truly new at the time. Think about it. There hasn't been a 2D Mario platformer on a console since Mario World, and I honestly felt that this game was definitely a step in the right direction. It has that Mario charm, and all those platforming gimmicks Mario has accumulated over the years. The powerups weren't half bad either. Does that justify the "new" games after it? No. Even if each game gets better in level design, there's no doubt that so much more could have been done. My point is that the game, at least when it was released, was solid. The level design was classic, and the star coins and secret exits were always a blast to find and I simply love Mario's movement in this game.
But that's just my opinion of course, and if you don't agree to the point of laughing at my opinion then cool. That's just my two cents.
***** Nah man it's cool. If that last comment wasn't proof enough, I get into long tangents as well. You essentially explained why I think it's underrated. It's overshadowed by the newer games which is expected, but now it's also tarnished by being a part of the "New" series, which today is not looked at positively at least from everything I gathered from RUclips videos and comments over the years. That's why I get the "underrated" impression. I mean, I know reviewers have given it positive scores and whatnot, but again, over the years, I felt that the game definitely hasn't been talked about much. Then again, it has been 7 years..... holy shit really?

I can't believe this is over 5 years old. I remember when it was first uploaded.. John's been my favorite person on RUclips since I was in like 6th grade, (I'm in college now.) Definitely a lot of great memories watching his videos...he's kinda like a piece of my childhood. He's a huge inspiration and I've always hoped his channels (including BSC) would become really big. I love this man, and I wish him the best.

Exactly. Not impossible, but chaotic indeed.
I think it's really fun with 4 players (well I was playing NSMBU, but I assume the experience is on the same level for this game). It is pretty difficult, but I actually like the challenge it brings. I have to think differently about how I play the game to make sure everyone gets through all right, and I myself don't get killed a lot. I like carrying a friend around while they do the fire-ball shooting, or everyone trying to jump on each other to give a boost up to a star coin. And sometimes I just like to screw over the others.
God, this game is so incredibly nostalgic for me... has it really been 8 years?

Nothing has ever happened to me and my friends\family when playing the multiplayer in this game,but I did do that to my sister in 7:38,I was dying from laughter . I love the multiplayer. It's just amazing. It just shows that the Wii can be a multiplayer console

This was my first Mario game, and it’s still my favorite 2D Mario game.
You can't bring Yoshi with you because there's a castle at the end of each level.
If players could walk through eachother and the ability to pick up and throw eachother was gone, then multiplayer would be amazing.
That would make the game feel cheap and we will blame the developers for being lazy for not adding collision detection for characters.
Ok. Have fun accidentally throwing eachother off cliffs.
Whatever, we all have different Preferences, but the character collision detection supply's a good laugh for everyone.
+Chase's Channel You're actually wrong, if players would just go through each other it wouldn't be fun, and you wouldn't be able to pull of some cool jumping tricks, like bouncing off each others head (Come on people it's not always a bad thing)
When I say go through, I don;t mean zero interaction whatsoever.
You could still fight enemies together and preform jump-tricks, and even a broup groundpound.

Johnny and Elliot were right about the whole "Multiplayer Mayhem!" thing. After my older sister got me a Wii Remote Plus, I offered her a chance to try 2 player mode. We had a bit of a hard time with Bowser's Castle due to multiple times dying. Had to hit the green Mushroom House quite a bit to build up lives for Luigi. My sister was using Mario while I used Luigi. First time around I ended up hitting the switch on my own since Mario was still in a bubble when it happened. Second time around we both made it.
"This game wasn't meant for more than 1 player"? I couldn't disagree more. The game feels very boring and barren with 1 player, bearable and slightly fun with 2 players, very fun and mildly crazy with 3 players, and with 4 players it's definitely NOT IMPOSSIBLE. In fact, 4 player mode is extremely fun and chaotic.
I agree. 4 players is more fun than 3 players, 2 and even single player. Still, I had to play 3 players because i didnt had a fourth player, but I still agree with you
1 player is only a thing I play when I want to get star coins to unlock more stages, or secret exits, so that I can have more things to do with my friends. I also grind for lives and power ups.
2 players is good for getting extra hard-to-reach platforms and coins, and is still fun. This is what I play to beat the majority of levels, so I can revisit them with more friends later. You can still communicate with the other player, and cooperation is easy.
3 players is when it starts to get cramped and chaotic, but really fun. The shouting begins to pick up here. Sometimes it happens in 2 player after some serious failure (my brother beat Ludwig and fell off the platform before he could get the key), but not much else.
4 players is where it's at. Often, to have four players, you'd be at a party or something, and even more people are watching in the background. Teamwork only exists in select circumstances, and there is always THAT guy who throws everyone into pits. Innocent lives are lost. Friendships are broken. Confidence in the ability to perform simple tasks is lost. And it is hilarious and awesome.

I used to speedrun 9-7 in a casual way. It was so hard for me at first so I instead formulated a specific route after each try to ensure myself that I would get it beaten. But since I liked doing it so much I started beating it over and over again. Now I suck at it again.
Nobody seems to point out that one huge loophole when Peach is captured in that cake. They obviously used a hole in the bottom to put her in the cake, but if they are carrying the cake above the ground, then she could just fall out of the hole in the bottom of the cake and get away.
I remember back when this game was near-universally loved, before New Super Mario Bros became the poster boy of stagnant franchises.

Sometimes I wonder how Nintendo thought of this. An Italian plumber who eats mushrooms and can grow and shrink all at once, and also eats flowers and throws fireballs. Hmmm...

This game is an amazing co op experience
a few months ago, three of my friends and myself took acid and spent the entire night clearing the game 100%. dear god was it a blast.

I believe after they make all those episodic releases, they'll compile the episodes together, fix what's broken and then put it on disc. That's what they should do anyway.

The spin jump actually can shoot your projectiles(Fireballs,Ice) in all directions cool.

Here's a recomendation: Play the last level from the checkpoint with a Propeller Suit. Makes it a hell of a lot easier.

With Yoshi's Island DS, Yoshi's New Island, Yoshi's Story and Yoshi's Wooly World, Yoshi has now his own franchise. I don't understand why the game is called Super Mario World 2, its not even a sequel, it's a yoshi game.

I got 99 lives in about 3 minutes, by freezing a Pimp Koopa and turning the fence at the same time.... lol
I think the reason they are more lenient with 1ups is because lives are beginning to be thought of as an outdated concept, and they are really only being kept in for tradition's sake.

Good Review Guys. This Game is Awesome, And some of the music was really good like the Lava Overworld, And the new Power-ups like the Propeller Suit, the Ice Flower, the Peguin Suit are really useful, And i do agree that the Blue and Yellow Toads was a poor choice for Multiplayer Characters, so they should've made Wario and a Regular Toad playable instead.
I've never played his game, but I have played the New Super Mario Bros. games for the DS and Wii U of which I am a really big fan of the latter.
The way to complete this game with 4-players is to play with friends who listen to the best player out of the 4(who should be player 1 ,& play with friends who actually know how ,or just learned how to play.
That is true 4 players is chaotic! It involves to much trolling!
I just got the game for Christmas and WOW, can things be chaotic, especially with casual players just learning to play.
