This just has to be one of the finest orchestral works of the 20th Century. So intense and brilliantly scored. Fabulous performance here.
A master piece of the 20th century. I had the opportunity to play this amazing concerto few years ago ❤️
Wow, impressive! Very colorful and powerful music! The beginning reminds me the Rite of Spring when the strings enter at 2'14 :) The final is wonderful
The way the opening theme expands... INTERNALLY... with each repetition.... it's so compelling..... sort the way a seed opens and expands, and becomes eventually a fully grown plant. Marvelous. This is the work that SHOULD lead every listener to explore further... especially the Symphonies No. 2, No. 3, No. 4, the cello concerto, Les Espaces du Someil, Chains 1 and 2.. in my opinion, virtually any and everything by him... but most especially these.
Great comment Andrew. I love the seed analogy. Brilliant.
...indeed - a masterwork of the 20th century ...
The most beautiful chord of 1954 at 5:25 ! I think this is a brilliant performance.
Going to hear this tonight in Budapest at the Liszt Music Academy. Can´t wait!
This is a particularly vigorous interpretation of this concerto for orchestra, which is certainly the first actual masterwork of Lutoslawski. .
Great live performance of a 20th-century masterwork! But I expected no less from Maestro Skrowaczewski.
Will be hearing SF Symphony do this in a couple weeks with Krzysztof Urbanski conducting and I'm getting pretty excited for it. He led them last night in Shostakovich #10 and it knocked me over.
Muzyka to wielka pociecha.
Phantastic performance!
Wonderful!
Great! lots of suspense !
This is fucking beautiful.
thank you!!!
galas062 You are so very welcome......oh no, not again... I'm so very sorry, you weren't talking to me.
I am going to hear the Oregon Symphony perform this next week! With the same conductor!
How was it??
The high point of the season! Old Stanislav is pretty frail and I wondered if he was gonna make to the podium. The orchestra played for him as if possessed. It was great!
I just picked up his Bruckner box set which I had not heard before -- also really excellent.
This Concerto for Orchestra is fantastic, I'd imagine it'd be amazing in a live setting!
Magnificent!
This concerto for orchestra was written some ten yeras after Bartok's. It is of course quite different. Te he fate of the two compsers, one in the conservative America and the second in the communist Poland, were not good nor 'politically corrext' in addition, Bartôk was deadly ill. Nevertheless, the two works are quite firly byuilt, thee orchesral writing is quite unique, but this dicipline did not prevent them from having original ecpressions of their own. The work of Bartok, though deadly ill, seems more hopefil than Lutoslawski's, who is probably anticipating darj times. But hat feeling in the Lutoslawski's concerto does not appear as some kind os post-romantic despair, but is rather tehe result of the color of the orchestra, the vety firm atchitecure and the rythmic impuldr.
Too bad there's a cut in the finale. Would have liked to hear it!
It's a shame. For anyone wondering: The cut occurs at 27:10

Poorly played. So much lacking in this performance.
