    Marvelous. Just completed listening to all Englund's symphonies. What a great set of symphonies! And this one (no.5) is my favorite among his 7 symphonies. Btillliant!

    A beautifully orchestrated and dramatic work. This is a first hearing for me of any of Englunds music and I'm glad to see you have more of it to offer. Tks for this posting.

    Dramatic and tightly-constructed, this one-movement symphony has a flow that made its' nearly nineteen minutes fly by, and a positive aura that makes me believe that Paasikivi, in whose memory it was composed, had such an outlook on life.

      I agree that this is a fine piece of music. To me, though, it seems menacing. The upbeat, syncopated figure at the beginning is a disguise, concealing a wolf in sheep's clothing. It's as though something wicked is being presented as good and enjoyable, luring in the naïve.

      @@jamesrbutler1 Yes, I would say many a listener has been eaten in the symphony's final bars by being too trusting at the outset!😆👍🥶🤣
