He wasn't 60 there. They all have money and treatments that the rest of us are not privy to. But I don't know his heart. Is he kind? He seems to be. But there is a special twinkle in his eye I see sometimes. I have also seen heaviness and depression and deep lines He said he would wear as a badge. The following year they were all gone. He went with a superficial woman. Just for her beauty. She was calculating. She wanted what was not hers to take. He went with that sinful chick. I think after a few years he saw her inside. Messed up and deeply troubled. She was a woman who targeted him. She does not care who she hurt. Just wanted the prize. So dear friend I would not judge a book by its cover. But boy oh boy is it not a beautiful one. I feel he has aged like a classic novel that will be read for years. I now see wisdom behind those 60 yr. Old eyes.

He showed her what was coming and tells her she'll be there soon. This is what meet joe black is about. Accepting death as a good thing and not struggling against it or fearing it. A man makes a deal with death to delay his fate and by the end of the film he and his daughter don't hate death so much and realize he, or it, is not so bad and just a part of their lives they have to accept to move on and that death didn't DO anything to them, and just exists to move them along to the next experience.
The father has to accept that life was temporary and that he has an afterlife to move on to, his daughter accepts that Joe Black, death, also is temporary and must move on from the idea of him to have the experience of life with the man whose body he was inhabiting.

What I love most about their conversation is that... it really embodies what I would expect from a compassionate version of death. He makes an effort to talk to her in a familiar and comforting way, to connect with her--and yet... he's also respectful of her, in his compassion--calling her Sister, Mama, and he doesn't attempt to lie to her or deceive her by denying that he's not human, but first and foremost comforts her with the truth--that he isn't evil, he's just a benign force from "the other place" and he didn't come here to take her away, he's just visiting the mortal realm. Brad sells the warmth, the caring, and the hints that he's a much older entity than even this human elder, who has clearly seen enough to know that she's dealing with someone--or something--larger than life, but is still like a child (as we all are) compared to the presence of death itself. It's just so sweet, really.

The process and concept of death itself is not a malicious or violent one. It is the sudden disruption and release of the electromagnetic and chemical processes that make up what many consider a soul, the essence of what makes our minds what they are.
Source: I’ve been walking this life hand in hand with death since I attempted to take my own life 7 years ago. Had an interesting conversation on the precipice of death before I woke up in the hospital, not knowing how I got there. Death was welcoming, and knew me entirely. For it was and is a part of me, as it is with all living things. The statement that still rings the loudest when I get low is “I could welcome you into my embrace, but you are at a crossroads, the choice is yours. The journey within life may not be a simple burden to bear, and it won’t relieve you of your pain, you just seem to not have achieved your goals.”
No urgency, full of compassion, and like I was having a conversation with my best friend.

For anyone who doesn't understand some of the words/phrases being used here, here is some explanation:
The two black women & the white businessman are using a lot of Jamaican speak/words & slang.
Obeah: This is one of the harder ones to explain, but it kind of refers to witchcraft and spiritualistic practices like that. It's seen a lot in the Caribbean.
"All right" which is actually irie (but the subtitles day all right): Fine, Cool, or like peaceful. So, saying irie basically means everything is fine there's no reason to be worried.
"Dopey" which is actually Duppy: basically just means ghosts, spirits, and things like that.
Rahtid: It's generally used as a softer swear, kind of like damn, but here it's kind of just him saying that he's surprised she would just keep calling him that. Like when people say "danggg" because they're jokingly offended and more-so surprised.

This scene though was that perfect middle place where he was eternal and necessary while still taking time to show kindness and compassion to an elderly lady with a very short time left.
Brad Pitt is one of the best actors to grace Hollywood purely for the breadth of roles he can convincingly play.

Young man in western gear sitting on his horse with a second horse with a stuffed deer tied to it was beside my truck. We spent the whole time chatting. I wasn’t into movies much and had no idea who he was, never hear the name Brad Pitt before. I give Brad a lot of respect, he was a down to earth gentleman. His only complaint was being tired of restaurant food, missed a home cooked meal. I offered and invited to take him home, being a younger family, told him it might only be Mac and Cheese. His eyes lite up and for a second he almost took me up on the offer. Really nice guy.

My father's uncle was Nunnally Johnson, Hollywood screenwriter, director, and producer for over 40 years. If any of his Hollywood friends made it up to Seattle up where his brother lived, he'd call up his brother and tell my grandpa to show his friends a good time in town, which his brother did.
However, one time he was asked to take care of Helen Hayes ("Queen of the American Stage"). When they were sitting in the family living room in the mid-afternoon during her fisit, my grandpa asked her where she wanted to dine, naming several fine restaurants in the city and saying he'd take her anywhere she liked...she said bluntly to him, his wife, and his two sons, "If I may be frank, I am just so sick and tired of dining in hotels and restaurants. What I *really* want is just a home-cooked meal."
My father, barely even a teen at the time, said he could not forget that moment, realizing that this magnificent beauty, this huge star of an actress...was just another human being. His father looked without a word to his mother, who dragged in a breath and asked lightly, "Can you wait an hour, maybe an hour and a half for a roast?"
My father said Helen looked like she was about to collapse in relief and said, "I would wait *two* hours for a home-cooked roast!"
And with that, my father's mother got to work preparing a home-cooked meal. which their special guest enjoyed to no end. She came back and visited a few times after that, and my grandfather always offered her "the finest of restaurants...or a home-cooked meal." (After clearing it with his wife, first.) And he also offered that option to *other* Hollywood guests...which my father said about a fifth of them actually took up as an offer.
When you're constantly on the road, touring in stage productions, you're constantly eating restaurant food. But sometimes you just want *home cooking.* And sometimes, you just want to be treated as a *person,* not a celebrity.
And you, holmrick, offered to treat that actor like a person, and tempted him with a home-cooked meal. I'm sure the production schedule was too tight for it (movies undergoing production are often far more taxing than theater shows on tour), but if he'd had any leeway, he undoubtedly would have accepted! And I guarantee that you gave him a good memory with that offer.

@@nxcrorat most causes of slow death do not involve necrosis, necrosis is when that part of the body is already completely dead and rotting, while the rest of the body is not. Necrosis only really happens in particularly bad cases and after awhile with those issues. Small shifts in energy levels, movements of joints, overall, some minor behavioural changes all can indicate various forms of slow death, long before symptoms are normally noticable, that's what you get normally. You will only smell it with highly specific issues or when the cause is overall them not taking care of themselves
I've had a number of pets, of various species, dogs, cats, rats, a chinchilla, ferrets. Rats commonly got tumors or really bad abscesses, and the abscesses often smelled a little, but not unlike rat can smell normally without that, at least unless the abscess bursts. One dog had bone cancer and died of it, the vets thought it was just arthritis for far too long, we could tell he was dying, but it was not a smell or anything like that, it wsd his behaviors, long before it got that bad, it set in that something was off and that his time was approaching on the horizon. The chinchilla, we never figured out what happened exactly, other than their previous owner didn't care for it well. My grandfather, we knew he was cheating the reaper for ages, he hid it well, but he was only holding out through stubbornness, he died of multiple issues all at once, but we knew, not because of a smell, not because of even something visual, not really, heck, his behavior was so very minorly off, only us, who knew him damn well, would notice. I know death, and I can say that without a before and after, it's usually BS until you get a proper medical assessment
