    When you're choosing a micro SD card for a game console or a phone, it's important to look at something called IOPS, not just the linear writing speed. Why? Because consoles like the Nintendo Switch often need to quickly access many small files during game loading and gameplay, not just read or write big chunks of data in a straight line.
    The key is to look for SD cards with an 'A2' rating. This A2 rating shows that the card is really good at this quick accessing of small files. It's usually the case that these A2 cards also have something called UHS Speed Class and Video Speed Class ratings, but don't worry about these too much.
    In simple terms: when you're shopping for a new SD card, focus on finding an A2 card from a brand you trust. That's the best way to make sure your games load and run smoothly.

      What is the difference between a1 and a2?

    • @evgeniibeliatinskikh7481
      @evgeniibeliatinskikh7481 9 месяцев назад +17

      @OddYDaPiMp, the main difference between A1 and A2 is their ability to handle small data. A1 can handle 1,500 reads and 500 writes per second, while A2 can handle 4,000 reads and 2,000 writes. For devices like phones or the Nintendo Switch, where you load a game or read/write small data during gameplay, this matters. It helps reduce any possible lag. But it shouldn't impact the gaming experience unless the SD card is extremely slow or faulty.
      Cards not labeled A1 or A2? They often fall behind the A1 in terms of performance. Both A1 and A2 cards typically offer fast continuous reading and writing speeds. So, A1 or A2 cards are a good choice unless you have specific needs like high-definition video recording.
      For the Nintendo Switch, some games might load a bit faster on an A1 or A2 card, maybe by 1-15 seconds. But it's always good to check game-specific tests before deciding to upgrade. The real benefit is seen when transferring a lot of data. If you're moving data between the Switch and the SD card or making backups, you could save a lot of time with an A1 or A2 card, maybe around 20 minutes or even an hour.
      In my area, the price difference between A1 and A2 cards isn't much. I usually go for the better one for a smoother experience, especially for backups. However, if you have a large SD card for your Switch and rarely transfer files, you're likely okay with what you have.

      So the Liscense cards are worse for you switch lol

    • @evgeniibeliatinskikh7481
      @evgeniibeliatinskikh7481 8 месяцев назад +5

      @@ParanoiaGentlman, in some sense, yes. A SanDisk 512GB Nintendo-branded card costs around €80-100, while a slightly faster Samsung Evo of the same size costs €35-40. If you don't get a Nintendo-branded card for free or as a bonus with a Switch purchase, then it's definitely a better option to buy just any other A2 class card from the shelf.

    Hi so I have a new switch oled and Im hoping to get a new sd card hopefully around 400-500 gb but I have some worries about getting one because I had a old switch (like the very first model that released so it’s quite old) and I bought a san disk sd card for that one off Amazon and it got corrupted data and I had a bunch of problems with it I have no idea what caused it wether I damaged it or inserted it wrong I have no idea and I’m worried the same might happen again do you know if there is any way to prevent this and what I should do when getting a new one?

      You may have had a fake card (there's so many around) or just a dud sadly! Make sure to buy a respectable brand from a respected retailer. If buying from Amazon make sure it says "dispatched and sold by Amazon"

    Just got my Lite couple days ago. About to buy a microsd at the moment and got so overwhelmed by class10, UHS, speeds, and all the names like extreme pro ultra plus evo etc etc. Still am so confused. If I can sort of grasp this is.... get a card thats uhs1 around 100mb/s. I was about to buy a card that was way too fast for my switch anyways so now I have dialed back abit and gone for more storage size than before. I just dont want to make a mistake and have my games tank hard and run slow etc. tldr which sd card = uh yes

      That's right though, providing its around 100mb/s you're good, just make sure it's a good brand

    Ik this might be a bit late to the party so to speak but I bought a 1Tb (Extreme Pro) micro sd card from SamDisk or whatever it's called thinking it would be compatible but when I tried to use it the card wasn't being detected.
    Unsure if it's just not the right type of card & I need to get one of those official switch sd cards or downgrade to a lower gig one.
    Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Or do I have to transfer all game saves over to a bigger card?

    Onn at Walmart that is the way I have had it for 2 years and it works wonderfully and I still can’t fill up and it may be 1 second slower ( that means you have to wait a whole sec for &20.00 less)

    I am not sure what kind of SD card I should get for my Nintendo switch I’m not really sure what kind is accurate so I don’t get scammed so I’m just wondering if there’s actually a good brand of an SD card so I can put it in my switch without anything bad happening because I’m kind of new to it. I just got my switch last year and I started using it this year so I’m just curious.

    I got Sandisk 1TB from game stop best to go i feel because over time u will be getting more games and some the games DLC and extra stuff take up a lot space and just better to. Start with because then u wouldn’t have to keep buying so many Sd especially if u play fortnight or APeX with bigger GB they stay adding on to them type games and so many skins and stuff take up a lot space so if u can offered it the best way is Sandisk 1Tb save ur more money and u don’t have to remember what games are on what SD 2 or at least like a 500 GB depending on how u game

    The only thing different about the Nintendo sd card vs the regular sandisk sd xc card is the logo. That’s about it. It’s essentially the same thing.
