If you think about this more, this shows how this would get REALLY weird or outright break from his perspective.
Because the portals are in front of each other, normally it just creates an infinite loop, like 2 mirrors in front of each other.
But with time being a factor, It would be surreal to see.
On the past side of the portal, it would show each past iteration from when he opened the portal. Basically, he would see the portal open 1 farther room away with each... iteration. So he would at first see his past self open the portal "1 room over", then after a while through that, it would open a portal 2 rooms away.
If you feel like something doesn't add up with that explanation, that's because there is a catch: You shouldn't be able to see further to the past then when the portal was opened. So it can't be infinite, but it should be, since if you are looking through one end, the other should already be open. I guess there could be a fix like there is in the game, where before you put down the second portal, you can't see through the first, and it's just an effect, but that still has problems.
On the other hand, on the side of the future portal, you would see all the way into the future where you escape. Or more likely, until the moment where the first portal is moved to the ground, because there, you can't see the other portal, so you can't see farther.
Honestly, I'm not at all sure if all this is even remotely correct. But it's what I was able to thing of. It's a fun thought experiment.

One minor oversight, when Niko kicked the portal gun and both portals changed colors to time-travel ones, the green portal should have been closed for 5 seconds, since it didn't lead to any space-time 5s before (as the purple portal didn't exist at that time yet).

There are actually two other options:
      1. it's a gradual speed up from 0 to 5 seconds, so both time portals can appear at the same time.
      2. the time travel aspect ripples back in time the moment the green portal got created, which means the purple portal should have appeared 5 seconds before the gun was kicked. Which actually would've been even cooler in my opinion.

    Terminal velocity = 120 mph = 176 ft/s
The room appears to be around 7 feet high.
The portal adds 5 seconds each pass.
176/7 = 25.14 = Number of passes per second from his perspective.
    25.14 x 5 = 125.7
If I didnt miss anything, time is traveling 125.7 faster by using the portal as he did in the video.
It would probably take quite a while even from his perspective for the facility to collapse. If it took 100 years to collapse, then he was falling for close to 10 months.
If we assume that gravity is added by the portal, since he is falling toward both an earth that is 5 seconds in the future and the earth at his current time, he could travel much faster. Actually, taking that thought further, all the other portals beneath that portal would be adding their gravity to some extent as well. The second that portal on the ground opened it would have started accelerating all of the air falling into it to insane speeds. The guy would probably get sucked in instantly and get vaporized. Whichever portal is the one where the room breaks apart would be where all of this would end, but the newly formed gravity beam would probably be what destroys it rather than it decaying overtime. I think we can assume that gravitational forces just don’t come through this portal lol.
If anyone savvier with physics and math wants to take that further, please do.

I just did in a comment (sort by new and you should see it). You can almost make it work if each time through the loop with the portal gun increases the time differential by +5 seconds but even then and a 300ft/s terminal velocity (which apparently is more possible when vertical) it's going to take him a minimum of 4 hours falling (Assuming 10 years for a building to crumble, a 5ft tall room, and a 300ft/s terminal velocity Niko). Much more likely 12-24+ hours of falling.
Without the portal gun going through the loop increasing the differential yeah he's almost certainly going to die of dehydration falling before the room would have time to crumble.

Portal Reloaded is different As the time portal doesn't take you into the past at all, it only takes you into the future by 30 years, allowing you to manipulate objects by moving them in the present and changing where they are in the future, while moving objects in the future doesn't change where they are in the other. Actually he would fly out the other door the second he moved the one of the portals, because his future self drop speed would increase to the point that eventually he would arrive before he jumped in. So either he would come out the side or come through the roof before the future portal was placed. They already eluded to this outcome with a few of the earlier examples like where he beats him self at rock papers scissors in the past. Loved the video, especially how the end is about waiting the bunker out by abusing time portals. However, ive done some maths and basically, falling at terminal velocity will only make 105 seconds pass each second (53m/s 2.5m tall room, 5 seconds each pass). This means you would need to be falling for half a year minimum to start to see some concrete degradation (50 years), but concrete has been known to last much longer than that (200-2000 years). Even if the concrete box is at surface level, it would take extraordinary forces from the outside to break in a reasonable time period unless you can get some crazy wind resistance reductions in that small box, perhaps through a better insulated air current that makes all the air go through the portal along with the body, thereby making terminal velocity unlimited, but as it is, i think the room has too much aerodynamic spill to significantly increase terminal velocity

He's jumping into the +5 portal, so from the audience perspective, there should be a long gap between each iteration as he very eventually reaches terminal velocity, but if you got a shot where the camera passes through like in "Portal Trick Shots", the entropy exploit works. Hella disorienting that version would be, though, I guess. Maybe just a crash-zoom to The Subject as he picks up the device, then sharper, more deliberate camera movements to indicate a shift in prespective?

If you're going to very suddenly switch the subjective POV, I feel like there needs to be something more significant to signpost that.

Thats a very interesting concept, because the portal gun normally one would think that is just a space thing, but it follows the same formula as a wormhole connecting two spots through space and time, as normally traveling that distance would require time. So the portal gun has to be in sync for both space and time so that it remains in the same time but when that stabilization breaks and you can move back or front in time, doing it at high speed allows the prisioner to advance time in just mere instants until the loop is broken due to the building crumbling down.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but when he jumps at the end,it’s not the room decaying faster right? Instead, it didn’t accelerate the decay of the room, and we were following Niko’s perspective of time at the point, what we saw was just him moving faster through time.
Hence the appearance of the room breaking down super fast.

    • @esotericVideos
      @esotericVideos Месяц назад +4

The idea is that each time he falls through the loop he jumps forward in time 5 seconds. So at terminal velocity he'd be moving through time at a rate of about 301 times as fast as he was experiencing it. But most buildings will take 10-30 or more years before they collapse, so odds are he'd die of dehydration long before the building crumbled and the falling cycle was broken.
Also, once the falling cycle is broken he'd almost certainly hit the ground at around 300ft/second.
If however going through the portal with the gun increases each loops delta by 5 seconds it becomes more possible, but he's still going to be falling for a minimum of 3 hours, much more likely 12-24+.
If you sort comments by new, I posted recently a comment that goes into the detail of all the math.

What happened here? The compositing on this one is distractingly poor compared to past works. You can see practically every edge wipe, leading to a very 'unstable' look to the short. The ground around the portal gun appears 'frozen' compared to its surroundings and is even layered incorrectly as the character passes it by at 0:17. My guess is a camera robot or programmed gimbal of some kind was used here to introduce movement, but the restrictive angle draws more attention to the compositing than is necessary, reinforcing the fact that it's a 'set' rather than a real space. To top it off, the AI generated background at 2:17 - while likely a timesaver - is truly awful.
Call me nitpicky should it please you, but for something that reads so much like a 'tech demo', I'm really not feeling this one

If people are willing to boycott 'Late Night With the Devil' for using AI generation during title cards, why should we be so lenient here?
