The one thing I would look for, especially if you are concerned with losing your game library if your SD card fails, is try and find a card in your price range with the most rated read/write operational lifetime. Wulff, the speed class (u with the 1 or 3 in it) the minimum write speed, thats different from the uhs-1 and uhs-2. Uhs-2 cards actually have another physical row of contacts on the back of the card instead of just the 1 row like normal cards. They recommend the uhs-1 cuz the switch lacks the pins internally to use those extra data channels of the uhs-2 cards. That minimum write speed bit is a totally separate thing, and will also be found on both style cards.
UHS-I refers to the bus type. It is distinct from the U1/U3 rating. Notice how the "Extreme" card is UHS-II -- you'll notice the difference immediately, as the card will have many more contacts on it -- but both it and your 400gb card carry the "U3" standard. The Switch doesn't support UHS-II anyway, so both cards should perform comparably. (The specs are cross-compatible with each other, you just won't gain any speed using UHS-I in UHS-II, and you'll lose speed using UHS-II in UHS-I. SD card speed ratings are a fucking mess.
This is something I've been looking into a bunch recently. I did understand that read speed > write speed for Switch considerations but didn't think that the switch had a limited capacity for UHS 2/3. SUPER useful to know, thanks Wulff! Yeah 200gb's is definitely the best price/storage ratio for most people Even if you buy mostly digital. most Switch games are usually sub 10gb, Bigger titles are ~15-20gb and the biggest are ~30gb so 200gb will last ya for most games
I was going to say the same thing, and many people don't even realize it isn't the same. 95 Megabits is 11.875 MegaBytes. Hey, Bob! Yes, thank you for asking. I recently upgraded my SD card on my Switch from 64 to 128. I should be fine for a couple of years. I mostly buy physical games. Great vid, by the way!
I have not purchased too many games for my switch but the few that I have picked up have been kind of half digital half physical. I picked up my switch on day one and put a 32GB micro SD card in there but I have been considering doubling the capacity recently because it is about 80%-90% full 😁
I had a friend of mine trying to tell me to buy a 400 one because he said "more storage faster load screen!" I had to show him this and now he subbed, same as me!
It’s crazy how fast storage is increasing. Just a decade ago a gigabyte seemed like plenty. Now 1TB seems like “just enough to get by”. Probably in the next 10-20 years petabytes will be the new norm.
Always make sure it's sold from Amazon themselves and not some third party. Third parties are always scammers when it comes to products like sd cards and game controllers.
I had a 32 GB and just recently upgraded to a 200+ GB (I forgot how much it had) I would get most of my games as physical copies, but they tend to go on sale digitally so that’s why I have more digital than physical games.
I went with a 256gb Toshiba Exceria card for my Switch. Works great and bought it all the way back in 2019. Might have to replace it before long though, as I don't want the card to giveout on me. I think I got another couple of years with it though. It is rated for a 5 year warranty at least. And on a bonus note, it is an authentic Made In Japan Toshiba card. It does not disappoint.
It’s been 2 years since I got my Lite and I finally need to upgraded from my 128GB 🥰 I’m probably going to get a 256GB one since the switch is already half way through it’s log cycle rn and I’m not expecting to buy too many more games over the next 4-5 years 🙃
Thank you so much for helping me and other people here, I had alot of questions with what type of SD card to get but now I am clear with the most optimum/worth it card.
This video was very helpful to me I just got my Switch so I'm trying to figure out what SD card I need thank you.Kinda wish Nintendo had been generous and included a micro SD card like they with the 3DS oh well lol.
I think you're confused with UHS Write speed and the difference between UHS-I and UHS-II. The switch can only use UHS-I only high-end cameras use UHS-II because they have physically different contacts. The switch can't even use that Extreme Pro Card to its full potential. That's probably what Nintendo is talking about and not the UHS speed class.
You're getting one thing slightly off here: UHS-III has to do with the cards physical connector. U1 and U3 is the cards Speed Class, and there are multiple people confirming improved performance from U3 cards on their switches over U1 classed cards. So the number within the big U on SD-cards represents its (write) Speed Class and not it's physical connector (UHS-I , UHS-II or UHS-III)
performance is not an issue over U1 and U3 as these are just read speeds which switch caps at somewhere 90. If someone prefer faster transfer and download speeds then U3 is the best option
Thanks, you just saved me a lot of money. Now I can get double the storage size for cheaper, thanks to not being any real benefit to getting the SanDisk Extreme Pro I was going to get 😊 More content like this, please.
I bought an SD card with brand "Lexar" 512 GB for my switch. It works for the whole day. The next day my Switch could no longer access it. Neither could my PC. It just died over night. 😭

Soo many people on Amazon under these links have had issues with their SD cards either malfunctioning in a week or claiming they received fakes. I would get most of my games as physical copies, but they tend to go on sale digitally so that’s why I have more digital than physical games.
Me too glad to c u
It’s been 2 years since I got my Lite and I finally need to upgraded from my 128GB 🥰
I’m probably going to get a 256GB one since the switch is already half way through it’s log cycle rn and I’m not expecting to buy too many more games over the next 4-5 years 🙃
Thank you so much for helping me and other people here, I had alot of questions with what type of SD card to get but now I am clear with the most optimum/worth it card.
I use the 400GB Sandisk didn't want to worry about storage.
Lol
Zero Exitium I’ll guess that you bought DOOM, Wolfenstien and other large games.
mark turner how do you like it so far? Any issues?
I’d like to get a high capacity one as well.
This video was very helpful to me I just got my Switch so I'm trying to figure out what SD card I need thank you.Kinda wish Nintendo had been generous and included a micro SD card like they with the 3DS oh well lol.
I got a 256 GB SanDisk and I definitely recommend it.
I'm still trying out 🌟🦊 and I'm surprised you didn't like it.
I think its because the 256 is not worth the dollar right now. You get more $1/GB on a 200gb than a 256gb
@@prettyteddy9693 I just bought (black Friday deal helps) a 200GB for £30 the 256 GB was £70.
@@darkscot1338 Amazon has 256gb sd cards for 40$-45$ usd Sandisk AND Samsung
Thanks!!! Big Help trying to figure this out!!!
Thank you! Exactly what I was looking for.
Great video!
I can't tell if that drive-by starlink diss is real or sarcasm.
I’ve had my switch for almost a year and I haven’t even bought an SD card yet
Same lmaoo
Same lol
Bought mine a week ago and need one by like two weeks ago.
i hacked my switch and slapped a 1TB external hard drive to its butt.
@Timmy P to play all the games STOOPIDD
@@emanuelgalindo5018 duhhh
That's stupid isn't the switch supposed to be portable
@@Dia-Sabah something people just use it docked all the time so
@@ComicalSatania yeah but in that case just buy a ps4 I guess Nintendo exclusives are too good
Thank you Bob! this was extremely helpful!
I just got a Nintendo Switch and was thinking about SD card types, your video was so helpful. Thank you men.
Just as my 64GB SD card on my Switch got corrupted you upload this video. Just wonderful 💁🏾♀️
Justin C Probably a Lexar one lol
I just pre ordered a Nintendo switch lite and I needed to know what kinda card to buy thank you so much for helping I liked this video
Thank you for the information man. It really helps. 👍
Now I can get double the storage size for cheaper, thanks to not being any real benefit to getting the SanDisk Extreme Pro I was going to get 😊

This dude is an excellent presenter. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Thanks for all the info. Wish i saw this before i purchased my Nintendo Switch SD card lol
Thank you so much for the video. Cheers!
Bought one of Amazon and a day after it was delivered another one came through the post
I bought an SD card with brand "Lexar" 512 GB for my switch. It works for the whole day. The next day my Switch could no longer access it. Neither could my PC. It just died over night. 😭
Lexar sucks why did you even buy it?
They're like Beats(headphone) of the micro SD card brand....
@@drsnowmon I thought it's US brand and supposed to be working fine. Clearly I was wrong.
@@madarasoun3018 Yeah next time get Samsung Micro SD cards, it's clearly the winner for endurance compared to other brands
Stick with SanDisk or Samsung I never had a problem with them
All you need to do is to format it and it should work fine, note that formatting will delete everything in the card, but your card should be able to work after
Did I miss the part where he said the official nintendo SD card had a leg up and was going to explain later in the video?
still underrated channel, i rematch many vids when shopping or rebuying vertain things as they are so informative and technical, in a good way.
i love how it ends with Bob thrusting his balls into the camera 💀
Very helpful, I’ll have to use your link to buy a new 400gb micro SD. Even though I disagree with you on starlink. It’s not a great game but if you find it on sale for $20 it’s worth it
I started to watch your video my man and my girlfriend was like “is that Jesus” 😂😂😂
Man I am glad I subbed! this guy is like Nintendo Jesus spreading the good word at cheap prices , thanks for the vids
I am just upgrading my card and your video just saved me from all the dilemma! Thanks a bunch
This guy is A TRUE REVIEWER
he tests all this stuff so we don't have to
thank you so much sir
It's MB/s not Mb/s, you keep saying megabits when it's megabytes, drives me crazy.
I get a speed of 69 Megabits
Od3stroyer I have 6969
Megabits gigabits terrabits.
Me who took up all the storage by taking a million screenshots
Dude doesn’t even shave and he’s endorsing the Dollar Shave Club.. 🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Lmao your jealousy cause you can’t get one strand of facial hair
Drago from Bakugan lol. The level of idiocy in your comment is truly mind boggling..
Or maybe he doesn’t shave his face but another region.... 🤫🤭
@@GunplaMaster178 😅😂

Oh my Gosh this was so helpful thank you🙂
Soo many people on Amazon under these links have had issues with their SD cards either malfunctioning in a week or claiming they received fakes. I bought one from the SanDisk website directly a few months ago and have not had ANY issues with mine. Payed a bit more but had that peace of mind. Got the microSD Ultra 400GB for like $60. Just tossing this out there for people who are very cautious like me and would not mind spending a little extra for peace of mind.
I just ordered a sd card 2 days ago, couldnt this video come out earlier?
The Challenge Crew nope they have a schedule on there banner
What card did you order?
@@prettyteddy9693 samsung 64 gb because i buy most games physical, so just needed a sd card for dlc, download only games and maybe if there is a good game on sale on the eshop
Physical games really are the way to go IMO
resale and physically owning the medium is much more important than most people think
@@RageSondrayy yeah no doubt. After I beat a game, sometimes I like to get rid of it, something like Super Mario Party however I bought digitally, cause I got it for $36 the night before release, so I couldn't really turn it down... Other than that though I do prefer physical. But I have 2 64gb and 1 128gb Nintendo branded SDs that I got for free from a buddy, because I believe they probably are set to run at the speed that it needs to be run at.
Lol this guy knows everything about the switch.
When I buy mines, I wanna make sure it’s worth it😁😁😁
How about the new revised switch? Can you make another video of it?
There's almost no chance things will change.
Thank you for clear and concise information.
Ordered the 200 from your link. Thank you. Last one in stock too! Just in time.
A very useful guide, thank you!! Now I need to decide between the 200gb or the 128gb ones, since I go half digital and half physical.
I have actually recently needed to get an SD card for my switch. Having gone physical mostly except for some download exclusives. I've finally capped my Switches storage an need to upgrade the space. Thanks for the info and recommendations! I usually go with Kingston SD cards personally. As in the past Sandisk SDs always eventually corrupted for me an I never had my kingstons corrupt. But the last Sandisk SD I used was many years ago. Perhaps they've improved since then. Plus would support ya. So that is a plus.
helpful...thanks man, I am almost buying a more expensive one...
Thanks dude! You always explain in detail. Very informative!
I'd watched at least 4 other videos before yours and none of them were as informative! I'm so clued up about which card to get now, thank you! 🙂
WTF where is the difference in 6:13
